One thing I prefer about UK TV is that actors look more like ordinary people. In too many American shows everyone is perfectly made up and hair is straight from salon. Normal people leading normal lives just don’t look like that.

The characters in most US shows we get in the UK are young, beautiful/handsome, have great jobs, have plenty of time off work to spend on leisure pursuits, etc. Even the homeless characters have perfect Hollywood white teeth. Totally unreal. No wonder some Americans feel under pressure if they compare their lives to these fake characters. The US shows often beat the UK shows on production values (lighting, camera work, etc) but I expect a lot of that is because UK shows have smaller budgets. Nevertheless, I enjoy the escapism and feel good factor of some US shows. At the end of the day, if it's entertaining it's done its job!

One of the basic key ingredients of why British TV is so much better is simply
-No beautification: you guys show TRUE British people and not model types
-You know when to end a show: Americans never end a show when it needs to end and pull it out for as long as they can until it’s boring and bland and people get sick of it. You guys know when to end a show so that were happy with the result, and the beloved characters are intact
-Little to no Cliches: You Brits truly do know how to make original programming and keep it fresh all the time. No reboots, no basic tropes on repeat and touch on so many genres.
-Relatability: All shows that pertain to one audience stick to that audience and don’t stray from them. Skins (first generation)is a great example of that, stuck to the true Teenage experience and struggle in the modern day and didn’t divert to crazy or random storylines to fill story.
I could go on and on, and as a Canadian. My god I wish we stuck more towards you guys than the US. There has not been one British TV show (besides Loose Women) that has ever made me bored.

I have to say that as a Brit, Watch Mojo UK, makes me positively cringe with embarrassment. Whether British TV is better or worse than American TV, or whether the British, do anything better in any capacity, is not our place to say. Residents of any country are often better or worse at something or other. If the British are considered good at something, and are complimented for it by a foreigner, that is very gracious of them, and should be accepted with due humility. To pronounce like some boastful child, "we are better than you are...." is just plain arrogance, and, quite frankly, anything but British! Self praise is no recommendation!

The section where they mentioned relatable characters who are flawed hit a note with me. I remember when I studied film in college, my tutor talked about how American films generally focused more on the American dream, whereas British film focused more on the gritty realism of life, showcasing more of the lower working class than characters who are wealthy executives with pearly white teeth. It only seemed to be independent American films that shifted the focus to life in the projects, without feeling the need to portray it as consciously harrowing. I think this for a long time has been reflective in both respective countries' television too, however I think streams like Netflix have broadened American content so that it isn't just beautiful rich characters in the mainstream any more.

I am British, and obviously knew the fact that this video is presenting, but also, you are bringing up excellent points that I never even thought about. You forgot to mention how much better the game shows are by actually allowing you to play along easier and being a bit more laid back and more like a pub quiz than a massive competition. That in my book is a major advantage to Britain > America.

I'm British and I really don't like a lot of UK TV like QI and I would rather gauge my eyes out than watch bargain hunt, talk shows are ok but mostly myself and pretty much everyone I know now watches RUclips, Netflix, amazon prime video, etc, documentaries are brilliant here but i've never really enjoyed a lot of TV as such. TV like BBC Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Who are incredible but, like mentioned before, you can watch them on Netflix, making general TV more or less irrelevant here now other than a few key areas like mock the week or comedy central, and David Attenborough of course, his documentaries do and always will make up for the lack of good British television.

No, Fawlty Towers ended because John Cleese felt they had done all they could with the situation in those 12 episodes. He said in a 1979 interview that it would be the "law of diminishing returns", the more episodes they would have done, the worse it would have got, so he stopped at 12 episodes. Remember John quit Monty Python after three series because he felt they were repeating themselves in series three.

In the past 25 years the US has put out The Sopranos, Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul, Westworld, Mad Men, The Wire, Game of Thrones, Arrested Development, Severance, Stranger Things... I could go on. I don’t even think British TV critics think UK tv is better than American TV. American TV produces more of everything, from trash such as The Kardashians to arguably the most important drama ever made, The Wire. Even comedy can be low brow JackAss to the brilliant The Larry David Show. But right now, American TV is in a golden age of relevant drama.
