    "Keep an eye on Yeesha, will you?"
    "Oh, my friend, there are some dishes that need doing in the kitchen."
    "One more thing, my laundry is in the bedroom, could you give them a scrub while I'm away?"
    Anything else, Atrus?? What as he ever done for the Stranger? :0

    I love it, 'Go meet my sons, get the signal right, turn my power back on, adjust my antenna and raise my daughter...' Goodness Atrus, would you like me to pick up your laundry from the river side while I'm at it?

    The music on this first part of Tomahna is amazing. Great job.

    Thank you for making these videos! I love your calm and relaxed pace, and willingness to absorb every little detail in the worlds. You make me appreciate these fantastic games even more.

    Yeah, and I imagine that it's much harder to add things to an age which you didn't write in the first place, as certain points of the writing between authors might be different, and could cause instability in an Age. If Atrus couldn't add a ship properly to his own Age, it's doubtful he'd risk adding multiple buildings to an age Ti'ana wrote.

    Atrus describes an attachment in his journal that would allow him to change viewpoints with the viewer. If you look at the drawing in the journal for that attachment, it appears that that's the part that actually blew up. Apparently, you don't need that to contact Atrus.

  • @Dilandau3000
    @Dilandau3000  14 лет назад +1

    The viewer is currently not working at all because the power is out. Once we restore the power, those parts of the viewer that didn't blow up will work.

    The HD quality of these videos is so good. I don't think I ever saw the dragon fly before.

    I assume he got both materials and help from other ages. Tomahna was built after he found a lot of D'ni survivors, so I'm sure they helped him with that.

    @Phanto5692
    But if Atrus needs to replace a sound component in the Crystal Viewer, then how can you contact (and hear) him in Rime?

  • @shuboy05
    @shuboy05 12 лет назад

    The crystal viewer is also kind of referenced in Riven. Atrus mentions in his journal that he has a device for hearing sounds through the linking panel of the Riven book which is why he can hear you reopen the Star Fissure and link to Riven.

    I do doubt that Atrus did such a thing, but I mean that perhaps it was added by Catherine or Anna very soon after the initial writing of Myst. Catherine did seem quite adept at adding to ages after they were written. Or it was even just written as part of the age originally.

    Atrus has such a smooth voice, now... Not like the faint, "I'm thinking of something else right now" voice he had in the earlier games. I mean, now he'd make an excellent main character in a Film Noir. Or a smooth jazz singer.

  • @Dilandau3000
    @Dilandau3000  11 лет назад

    As the library and other rooms on Myst are man-made objects (which are supposed to be incredibly hard to add to an age, as the failure with the ship showed), it's unlikely that Atrus took the risk of doing that with the age where he lived.

  • @TheFlyingJester
    @TheFlyingJester 11 лет назад

    It's probably a similar technology, but I think the ability to project linking images is a prior D'ni technology, which was also seen in Uru when Yeesha held out a linking book in a hologram at the end of the main game.

  • @jebwu8648
    @jebwu8648 11 месяцев назад

    I mean you can definitively hear through linking books, think Myst and the green book and Sirrus and Achenar in their trap books.

    Thank you for this. I know I'm (over) a decade late to this party, but it should be said that that this was an incredibly enjoyable game, despite its faults. I'm really enjoying watching your progress. ❤

    • @bbwfiona
      @bbwfiona Год назад

      Also I had the pleasure of meeting Rand Miller himself at a Mysterium shortly after IV and he didn't seem to enjoy the frequency puzzle either.

  • @TheFlyingJester
    @TheFlyingJester 11 лет назад

    As seen in the Stoneship age, some things could also be written into the age, even after the initial link. I expect that the library and star room on Myst were similar additions.
    I don't think that Tomanha is that far fetched to be built by one or two people in twenty years, particularly when he could have had help from either D'ni survivors, or perhaps had some parts or machines built using resources and knowledge from other ages.

    possibly a small back up power contrapation kicks in if the main power goes out, thus still powering the elevator.. just my theory

  • @LeonardMeltsner

    The Book of Atrus makes it quite clear that they weren't there originally.

  • @IgnisInCaelum

    Oh, would you? Also, if you'd feed the dogs, link into a dozen or so worlds and check up on the inhabitants/help them out if they need it, that'd be great.
    And if you've got time, could you make dinner?

  • @LeonardMeltsner
    @LeonardMeltsner 11 лет назад

    I think that the writers assumed that Atrus was able to get to the Cleft and back and link to Rime before the bomb, because the player would spend the first 2 hours walking around tapping every conceivable object.

    @Dilandau3000
    Okay, I think I get it now. The power outage somehow slipped my mind.
    Wait. Hang on...
    If the damaged components are not essential to the operation of the Crystal Viewer, then why did Atrus even need to visit Rime?
    (I'm sorry. I'll shut up now.)

  • @QUANTUMJOKER
    @QUANTUMJOKER 14 лет назад

    This is something I still can't get my head around.
    After Atrus leaves to pick up some tools and a replacement Modulator, Sven briefly inspects the Crystal Viewer, and observes that he can't use it.
    How, then, can the Crystal Viewer work at all, for even some of its functions, if Atrus has not yet returned from Rime?
    I wondered whether Sirrus might have been the one who repaired the device. I just couldn't accept how the Viewer went from thoroughly busted to working again.
    I'll move on now.

    "NOBODY MOVE! A fuse is out!"

  • @QUANTUMJOKER
    @QUANTUMJOKER 14 лет назад

    Why does Atrus inform you that 'you'll need to turn on the roof antenna before the viewer will work'?
    If Atrus' Crystal Viewer is now non-functional, then what point would there be in doing so? If you can't use the Viewer, then why bother turning on the antenna?
    This always struck me as a significant plot-hole in 'Revelation': if Atrus has not yet returned to Tomahna, then why is the Crystal Viewer fully operational after Yeesha's disappearance?
    What do you think? Let me know.

    I'm torn. There is very very little chance that I'm ever going to play this game (because it's likely never to get a digital release)... but a part of me, in my brain, doesn't want me to watch so that I may, someday, solve the puzzles myself. It keeps making me hit the pause button until I come to some sort of decision.
    I really want to see this game all the way to the end, and this is the most probable way for me. Anyone have any advice on if I should watch? Just anything in general. Opinions on if the puzzles are even worth solving yourself... or opinions on if Dil's constant explaining of what he's doing gets in the way of the experience (for instance, if I were to start playing, I wouldn't know which one of those things on the map is what I'm looking for first)... that sort of thing.

    Why do I feel like Atrus speaks with a slightly different accent now? He almost has a southern (American) hint now... Also, question for the LP narrator, with all respect, what accent is it that you're speaking with?

    • @unworthyBeatrix
      @unworthyBeatrix 10 лет назад +4

      I believe Sven has mentioned that he's from the Netherlands. And Atrus is definitely speaking differently to the way he did in the past Myst games, likely picking up an accent by interacting with the denizens of Releeshahn over the past ten years.

  • @LeonardMeltsner
    @LeonardMeltsner 11 лет назад

    Yeah, the first time I played, I was trying to write down his To-do list as quickly as I could, but it didn't transcribe very well, I forgot stuff, and spent quite a while trying everything everywhere before I actually accomplished what he instructed. I didn't even turn on the viewer to Rime until over halfway through the game, because I was distracted by everything else.
