- Tim Holmyard is certainly no stranger to high output GM LS engines. We recently filmed his TJH Performance built street car engine on the dyno where it was testing a new LS7 induction package from Higgins Race Heads and as you'd expect it didn't disappoint.

Not a natural LS if it's running nitrous!!
I have to agree. While not boosted, nitrous is still chemical supercharging.
Still a bloody good effort, and over 8,000rpm from a pushrod engine. NICE.
The video makes it pretty clear that it's his other car, the red SS that runs nitrous. The engine that this video is about is n/a, have a good look at it, there is no nitrous system on it.
Never ceases to amaze us how stupid the comnents section is 🤔🤣👍
I was about to say its not running nitrous while getting tuned and making 958HP lol 😂
@@fullboost Cool. Unsubbed.
Damn - Absolutely sick NA numbers. Oh man, hearing an LS at over 8k rpm is godly!
As much as I like "run what you brung" outfits, with all sorts of power adders, it's also great to see an all motor car doing 9's with a motor that makes over 2 hp/ c.i.
Obviously they know how to set up the car, regardless of power.
Admirable stuff.
Can't beat a nasty NA V8 sound!!
Yes, I know, it is highly subjective... BUT actually... you can :D Anything which is multiplied by 3 sounds better than anything multiplied by 4. (I4, V8 vs I3, I6, V12). ODD firing makes it more complicated, but anyways... Straight 6/flat 6 (no v6 unfortunately) just sings its sweet symphony... some V12s even tend to evolve its sound during climbing RPM - listen to straight piped murcielago for example.. on the other hand Crossplane V8 "only" goes quicker and louder, nothing "more".
@@johnnysodak7261 hey sound is subjective i like one bangers and flatcrank i4 mc engines everyone has their taste
The best!
@@johnnysodak7261 "I know its subjective, but I'm going to try to make a objective statement out of it." - You
Who said big cube motors don’t like to rev 🤷♂️. Awesome combination 👍
My 440 like the high rpms. Makes good power all the way up to 7500
Just the pricks with no imagination/intelligence 😁
My old mans 468 chev revs to 8000rpm has been for over 15 years and only two bolt mains
@@damiendoisher7812 slopar u mean?
@@theadmiralyi8760 shut up douche. Also have an ls that I'm building as well. So fuck off bitch.
Everything that dandy engines produce is top notch. Great work guys.
They did not put the combo together they just did the tune and dyno etc, but they can put engines like this together easy.:) After all they have over 2,500 hp engines in their own cars? what i would like to know is how much extra fabrication and welding goes into building a engineer certified over 2,500hp car ,like the rails, back end and also where the roll cage gets welded how much extra reinforcing gets welded under the car especially where the roll cage gets welded too, its not just buying a good shell of any car make or model, its about making sure the massive amount of stress time after time, those points are checked, dont get me wrong, i am sure safety is always the no 1 check, but i dont know how many times they have checked the welds near the roll cage mounting points, if V8 supercar racing roll cages have cracks in the weld points, then think what a 2,500hp engine will do to those welds, also chrome molly roll cages are used ,but i have seen welding of mild steel welding wire used, till i pointed out if your going to weld a roll cage in, then use chrome molly same grade welding wire and not mild steel, sure engoung the V8 supercars all adopted this same way of welding tig chromoly roll cages in and even using chrome molly plate in each weld point of where the roll cages needs it under the car etc and not use the cars steel? After this no mare cracks in any welds after at least the complete season of V8 supercars ,which was during the 2000 years? Cheers and i hope all dags cars do a complete check of the roll cages installed and use chrome molly welding wire instead of mild steel, basically tig wire and aircraft grade if possible if not as long as its chemical composition is the same and or grade is used etc. :)
7071t6 bit off topic cobba
The damn thing is still making 600 pounds of torque at 8k!!!
godly torque at 8k!!
Cubes!
you kinda need to make a lot of torque up to to gain any power...
hojnikb exactly you build a motor for torque and the hp will come with it naturally
@@hojnikb no, not really. If you're losing torque, simply gain RPMs and you will increase horsepower. Usually, the torque curve starts falling at around 5,200 RPMs. Horsepower will still rise though. Generally speaking, horsepower will continue to go up with RPMs. This is only true as long as there are no air/ fuel restrictions, dynamic compression isn't drastically different than static, and detonation stays on time. So long as these are true, your horsepower will continue to rise with RPMs. (There is a point of diminishing returns)
Not a normally v8 guy but when its not just run of the mill ls1 with the typical LS1 OTR, cam package and exhaust and its actually different and not a copy cat sheep it actually gets my attention
My VY SS Commodore runs a stock 5.7 litre LS1 V8 engine & it puts out 400 flywheel horsepower with just bolt on items such as aftermarket Mandel bent headers,200 cell cats & a car back mandrel bent high flow twin 2.5 inch exhaust system as well as being dyno tuned.
The original 17.5 year old engine is just about to clock over to 356,800 kilometres with nothing done to it other than fitting a new timing chain & sprocket kit,new hydraulic lifters & a full reseal which was all done by myself !
Not bad mate
Need to see more N/A motors spanking the boost Boys. N/A is far from dead.
Imo with the ls’s na ability’s it’s only gonna gain popularity
It’s very expensive to build a high power na motor.
Brian O'Conner most of the boosted setups have similar setups just with different cam and bottom end (boosted setups aren’t any cheaper) boost suited bottom end, cam and valve springs are no cheaper than the price of N/A setups
They don’t vary much in price
@@brianoconner4206 it's very expensive to build any high output motor, but naturally aspirated motors have a lot less issues than boosted ones. The more parts you add, the more points of failure.
@@ESISTTIGER this exactly. The only difference is now you have to pay for expensive turbochargers, upgraded fuel pumps/lines/injectors, intercoolers, oil pumps/lines/catchcans/oilpan, etc etc etc. Boosted setups are definitely more expensive in the long run, as they usually kill engines faster.
If I was to see this car run before seeing under the hood, I'd guessed to see a huge maggie or Belle blower on top! To see that N/A, I'm very impressed. Awesome build and awesome video.
When I looked at the Video
Me: Holy shit
After watching the Video
Me: Holy shit
That motor is full on rowdy. Some fine work there.
Absolutely pumping oil out rhe dipstick hole at 3:00
not uncommon for LS dipsticks to leak.. only thing GM engineers forgot to overengineer lol
It's an effort to keep the frame from rusting through an auto lube system of sorts
I suggest you guys look up Baldwin racing engines. Building ls 410 engines for sprint cars. 935 hp 750 tq, all natural.
9.7 at 144 is awesome shows how well its 1/8th mile is. comparison:my fathers turbo e36 ran a 9.9 at 160, all power and no traction
I love N/A builds ❤
8300rpm, not a big V8 guy but that sounds like a tonne of rpm for those things, especially the cam in block ones like the LS, nice.
Not unsual at all for an LS. As long as you have rods that won't fly apart.
There is a few v8 burnout cars out there spinning over 10k rpms
NASCAR use cam in block. All of them rev to 9500 all day.
It came a lil from it's dip stick, happy engine indeed.
ayyy 420 cfm... thats allot of cfs of thc
Especially for a small block head
What a symphony, the lads at Dandy Engines are second to none. Such know how & craftsmanship deliver the results on the dyno. Great work!. 👍

They did the All motor sbf to 950hp on pump gas 461 cubic inches
Fullboost's video's always nice to watch
Awesome video Today thank you very much for the content really appreciate it keep up the great work thanks once again.👌
Pro stock is 500 ci and rev to 10k. Love high revving big inch motors
Awesome power for NA. Is it just me or did the oil pressure look a little low at WOT. ?
Is 40psi oil pressure at that RPM acceptable? Should be more no?
I would think it should be higher as well but these guys probably know what they're doing.
Too high and it’ll make a drag on the crank. It’s dry sump anyhow
Its a wet sump 👍
I think if they're smart enough to design an engine to produce this much power with natural aspiration, they are also capable of getting an acceptable oil pressure 😂. Oil pressure isn't everything, oil volume also matters. You will obviously gain oil pressure if you make the veins, that the oil flows through, smaller... but that also means you're carrying less oil given the same distance. Less oil at high RPMs is never a good thing. Sometimes you want lots of all flowing slower and sometimes you want less oil flowing faster. They're sitting just fine where they are.
I like it.. But nothing beats the sound of a Holden 5.0i
8400rpm, what a beast.
Talk about a few rpm holly shit that sounds insane..✌️
Wow.. yup, you guys can ship this to my shop anytime!😁😜
Damn impressive and thanks for the vids lads. Best thing to watch in lock down while working in the shed.
Very impressive guys. Kudo's to all involved 👍
All natural. Mmmm. Going to look in the whole foods aisle at Woolies this arvo.. 😎
I want to make my LS rev to 8000rpm.
Low Lash Solid Roller. A lot of people are starting to move to the solid roller setups for this very reason.
ARP bolts can handle that. Really need light but strong valvetrain. But the resonances...
NA ftw!
FUCK YEAH!
Is that 955hp with or without knockcontrol ? 👌
OMG, now that's what is called a engine ,which will last and last and last, unless the owner does not take care of it, ie: change the good oil after each pass for example, all the right external coolers and most of all enjoying the beast.🏎👍🙌✌😊👌
Look him up make, pretty sure he doesn't need your maintenance advice!
Is anyone else concerned about how low the oil pressure was ? I suppose the old 10psi per 1000 rpm rule doesn’t exist anymore ?
That's a generalized rule of thumb. You don't make big power being over safe with everything. Engines can actually live with less. You only need just enough, anything more robs power.
Almost keeping up with a full house Barra
It's not even close to a full house barra
Barras are garbage without turbos.
@@THESLlCK Barra's handle turbo's easily. The LS pops rods NA .6 vs big V8. )))

Been a while since I've heard from C&A have you guys seen anything from them lately?... Well, pre-pandemic anyway.
Would be a great fit in my 2009 Crown Victoria Police Interceptor!
Keep it Ford... a 5.4 supercharged GT500 swap makes them proper rowdy!
What total ignition timing did you guys use on this engine to make the power?
MBTE heaven!
So sweet That's a angry motor do you or would you Build a turbo motor With low compression
Trying to be a 308 with those oil pressure numbers 🧐
Getting close to sounding like a Nascar V8
i wonder why
All natural?
A vacuume pump would free up even more HP
still a beast even without nitrous
Lots of rpm for the stroke?
Super!
Awesome
I gotta get my Turbo GTO done 😆
Anyone ever built a v12 drag car? That'd be sick.
Asking out of curiosity. Is it normal to get blow by up high in the rpm like this was seen on the engine dyno?
Can someone try and explain it to me only wanting to learn is all!
it has a vacuum pump pulling vacuum from the crank case .
it can pull up to 18 inchs of vacuum at rpm so what your seeing is the vapor form the pump
It's also possible this engine has been built with nitrous in mind for the future. Usually when you build a motor to take a lot of nitrous you run larger ring gaps.
Is the final power figure without nitrous?
None of the figures are with nitrous.
Meanwhile honda k series getting 550hp + from a 2.7 liter
Is it making 600ftlbs at 8000 rpm??
@@Chingon1 arguing they make less torque is irrelevant when 1 is 2.7 liters and another is 7+ liters.honda will always win hp and torque per liter of displacement over 1950s boat anchor technology look up some dyno numbers on rotarys for example do some math and torque per liter of displacement is alot higher in the rotary v8 guys hate on the saying no torque but got remember they upset cause a 1.3 liter engine wooped a v8

@@BIGSMOKE-bl2lq Always easier to make more HP/L from a smaller displacement engine . If you need an example look at the sports bike lots of them are making 200+ from 1000cc straight from the factory without any mods. Secondly HP/L is a stupid metric its the overall footprint ,size and weight of the engine and how much power it can make that's more impressive to me and in the end the more HP you can the better it is . And to the guy who is bragging about torque , torque does not make a car go fast its HP . A human can generate more torque than that LS given a big enough lever , it's all about how fast you can generate that torque makes a car go fast which is well HP
Big smoke have another cone. Meanwhile no1 gives a fcuk about Honda’s.
820 crank to 600 wheel?!? That's some ridiculous loss there. WTF?!

I'm just here for the barra the world comments 🤔
There are plenty of them out there making that much engine power.
I'm not biased to ford or Holden either, I'm a big fan of both.
Same.
Why do barra guys always compare the fastest barras to n/a ls.. There's billions of forced induction ls cars out there so why not compare to that? I think we all know the reason deep down lmao
@@trixnhoez2964 people who compare cars that way are silly. I can appreciate forced induction and naturally aspirated cars. People should just appreciate each build
See, carbs are good for you.
I want one
Wow
NEATO.
I learn the other day a stock LS7 only make 72hp per L. 30 more then a crb250 from 1989
HP per litre makes no sense as an argument though. Honda s2000s might make crazy HP per L but it's still going to be a million times faster with even a stock ls1 in it lol
There is a reason the #LSTHEWORLD tag line exists 😁👍
Trixnhoez really is that why the Ferrari 458 is 4.5 make 125 hp per litre. yeah your right, litres really doesn’t mater does it. 4.5L makes 562 and a 7.0L make 502
The LS in stock form is ridiculously understressed - the main weakness in them being the cheap rods and pistons. Port the heads, put a lumpy cam in, swap the rods and pistons, and you're well on your way to making power.
@@ryanlowe3588 I'm not arguing that Ferrari is crap though, obviously Ferrari 458s have one of the best n/a Ferrari engines of all time..
