I wish. It was liek that here in SoCal. Van Nuys (KVNY) ATC are pricks. I remember my solo 3 years back and I asked them to repeat procedures. They then asked me if I had my CFI in the cockpit. I am a CFI now and still get salty about that haha.
Hi Ben - another excellent one! Can't wait to come to Blackpool myself one day. Been a bit rubbish in January here in the Midlands but hopefully with the days getting longer all will be good. Thanks for another brilliant video. All the best! Steven.
Enjoyed the video as usual Ben. Nice to have your instrument rating so you can go on the short flights and weather is not a factor. I usually try to go on clear days so I can look at the scenery. Safe flying Ben.
Very interesting footage mate, nice & informative and well shot. I'm nervous to be starting my PPL next year but excited to discover all these little airfields!
Great video Ben. I had a moment of deja vu when I saw the inside of Barton Control tower then I remember your S22 low flyby. I know the weather hasn't been to good since Christmas so I'm sure you were glad to get back in the left seat. A little belated but happy new year to you and your passengers who kindly added some great video footage. Ian
Hi Ben, fantastic video that I've found myself watching again! It has been brilliant to watch your journey to where you are today. Hopefully complete my PPL soon 😊
Really interested in training for my PPL. Had a trial flight some years ago and loved it but at the time wasn’t financially viable. Once you have qualified how does hiring of aircraft usually work. If I wanted to take my family somewhere for a day or weekend, do you pay for the duration of the hire or do you only actually pay for the hours actually flown?
Hi Ben. Do I take it that you don't have such a thing as being able to land after closing time? After such a time at a controled field here in Australia, CTAF procedures are in effect. This just means that you do radio calls on a given frequentcy.
Some airfields there are in the UK which offer that but very few! Theres no pilot controlled lighting either in the UK so it becomes quite limiting when dark and after 17:00.
Great video Ben! Keep up the good work! I'm just about to start my PPL and looking into tech to help with the training. What iPad model do you use and what apps would you recommend? Thanks
Great content Ben! a slight change of style, but a welcome one. Personally I'm a bit curious about the paperwork that you have to do before and after flight. Can't wait for your next videos!
The paperwork before the flight is the Aircraft Technical Log. It includes the checks done on the aircraft at the start of the day called the A Check which records things such as fuel level and oil level.
Very nice mate! A good way to compliment the existing content I think, like one of these per 4 or 5 usual videos I reckon, although the vlogging format is popular these days
Really enjoyed this "day in the life" style video. More like this in the future would be fantastic but the editing process on these ones must be more lengthy. Possible stupid question from a non-pilot: If you are flying VFR can you go into cloud? You mentioned you were doing an IFR transit, but was your flight plan a VFR flight plan? And if so, how come you could fly through those clouds? I watch a few American flight VLOGS and they all say if you're flying VFR you must be 500ft from clouds - or something to that effect. Anyway, appreciate you having us along for the trip. Cheers, Andy.
c898dba; I hope you don't mind me shedding some light on your question. In the U.K. (Unlike the US) if you hold an Instrument rating "IR" or an IMC rating which is like a limited IR for the U.K, you may fly in IMC (Cloud) without a flight plan and without talking to ATC, though this is unadvised. An IFR flight plan is only required for flight in controlled airspace (Class A which requires a full IR) though can also be filed for any IFR or VFR flight. The start of class A airspace varies in altitude across the U.K. from ground level around Heathrow up to 19,500 in remote areas. In summary the nearer you are to a major airport the lower the controlled airspace will be. ATC deconfliction service (radar traffic separation) is advisable for IFR outside controlled airspace but the availability of deconfliction services depends upon controller workload and radar coverage which does not always cover areas outside controlled airspace due terrain or obstructions.
Thank you for that detailed and excellent explanation. It makes sense. I can see now the difference between flying in clouds in the UK and the US. I watch Jerry W, and the other day he said something like "I need to avoid that cloud as I'm still VFR". I wondered how Ben could fly through cloud while he was VFR and your explanation has made it all clear. Cheers! Andy.
c898dba You're very welcome. It seems we follow the same channels. Jerry W is very informative. I would also suggest "The Flying Reporter" as he makes very good content about flying in the U.K. He has also collaborated with Plane Old Ben in the past. All the best, BlueLineSpeed.
Hi, great vids! Bagged yourself a new subscriber. I wanted to know that now you have your PPL, where can you fly to? Can you fly only in the UK only or can you do a flight from let's just say London to Paris etc...I don't know anything about flying, but just curious. Thnaks!
Adam Suleman as an EASA PPL (As Ben is) you can fly in any EASA Member state (EU + Switzerland if my memory serves correct), so yes, London to Paris is possible
They’re very different at each airport. Some places you can pay £7-10 for a c152 and others up to like £25 or if you had the chance to land at Gatwick I can only think it would be thousands!
I fly out from Bristol (EGGD) landing fees are £167 & touch & go's are £17 each but the first one is free, I know how kind of them to give me a free touch & go!
Flyer Magazine were offering a free landing voucher there. But £29 for a landing is rather steep for a PA28 at EGLK. Popham is a good alternative just down the road with an interesting offset approach due to a rather inconveniently placed petrol station!
I ben hope you are well buddy.philip is still interested what a gifted talent you have.philip as been in touch with Philippe about training me I would love to learn the cirrus sr22t.just waiting for a reply from Philippe.ben you take care and look after yourself top guy philip.
Nice video but I had my finger over the mute button for that modern pitch-shifted "blee parp biddle parp wo muzzo bop" type music. It must be free or something because I've noticed other RUclipsr's use it. Sorry about that but all feedback is feedback.
Hi Callum, couldn't help notice you mentioned flying out of Bristol!. I live in Weston-Super-Mare and wonder if you have any spare seats in your flights?. regards Chris.
Hi Chris I am currently still in training at Bristol, should be finished in a few months (May-June) then I will be re-positioning to Dunkeswell airport about an hour away from Weston, when I've got my license and plane (getting a Rockwell Commander 12TCA) I would be happy to take you up. Obviously I would like to know more about you first before hand. Drop me your email and when I'm ready to take you up, I'll shoot you a message.
Callum Frost Hi Callum, thanks for your reply. My email address is chrisoxenham10@gmail.com Perhaps send me a friend request on Facebook. Sounds great!.Regards Chris.
id love to become a pilot especially become a airshow or even if its just jet flying XD but I have bad eyesight my hearing well idk never tested but i tend to say what alot XD it says about fitness test... uhh i mean depends what that is but i aint a fan on fitness :P uh yeah whatever else it was i dont think its happening but you know at least i can play simulators see people saying you can become what you want isnt true at all
British ATC always sounds SO polite. Clear, and crisp directions. I’m guessing English pilots get a lot of IFR experience. 😎👍
I wish. It was liek that here in SoCal. Van Nuys (KVNY) ATC are pricks. I remember my solo 3 years back and I asked them to repeat procedures. They then asked me if I had my CFI in the cockpit. I am a CFI now and still get salty about that haha.
I keep watching your videos again, such good info and realistic. One day my videos will be to this standard ;)
Looking forward to your next set of videos :)
Thanks Ben, for sharing an interesting and fun day out, and for the high quality video.
Hi Ben - another excellent one! Can't wait to come to Blackpool myself one day. Been a bit rubbish in January here in the Midlands but hopefully with the days getting longer all will be good. Thanks for another brilliant video. All the best! Steven.
Give this man his own show!
Enjoyed the video as usual Ben. Nice to have your instrument rating so you can go on the short flights and weather is not a factor. I usually try to go on clear days so I can look at the scenery. Safe flying Ben.

Great Vlog Ben as always. you should have a flight down to North Weald in Essex.
North Weald is on the list!
An interesting video. I attended your seminar yesterday (15/6/19) at the Wycombe Air Park Expo and enjoyed it very much. Now subscribing too.
Ridiculous that you don't have more subs...
aha thanks Liofa thats really kind!

Good video seems a very competent pilot.
Just curious - how much does it cost to rent a hangar
In the uk you dont rent a hanger you have a space in a massive shared one. But it is an average of £984 every 3 months for a PA-28
excellent watching!
Thanks for watching!
Great video Ben..
Nice video!! Did you depart vfr and then when you approached the cloud layer did you ask for an IFR zone transit?
Giving this a rewatch and I’m now 2 hours into my training👌🏾
Good luck with all your training!
Hey, great video. What App is that you are using on the iPhone?
How do you connect the audio from your headset so that we can hear you?
Great video Ben! Keep up the good work! I'm just about to start my PPL and looking into tech to help with the training. What iPad model do you use and what apps would you recommend? Thanks
I D Umoren Ben uses SkyDemon and an IPad Mini during his flights 👍

Yeh I have an IR(R)!

How much would fuel cost if your flying for an hour thanks
I heard in someone else's vlog that the landing fees in the UK are quite high. Is that the case?
They’re very different at each airport. Some places you can pay £7-10 for a c152 and others up to like £25 or if you had the chance to land at Gatwick I can only think it would be thousands!

Not to fly, but to walk airside then some UK airfields require this.
Well operated - very profesional.
