Awesome review Matt! Overall I think it was a very fair assessment of its strengths and weaknesses compared to a real MAWL. Great to see the MAWL C1+ captured by the NVG30 and impressed it held up well to the few hundred rounds you put through it so far! Keep us posted on how it holds zero if you get the chance to keep testing it. Off to watch the live fire clips on your sub channel lol
@taruneagles1 a standalone illuminator is often far more advantageous, particularly when it can be toggled on or off on a weapon. Using the onboard illuminator is great for recreational use, but it wouldn’t be nearly as recommended in a more…tactical setting.
wonder if a heavier buffer weight, an adjustable gas block or both would help with retaining zero for longer. on paper it should cuz less recoil but interesting either way
Bet it'd hold up and do well on a 300blk w/subs. Those things really don't recoil, and the subs have limited effective range anyway. Wonder if you can replace the vis light with a better led?
I’m wondering the same thing. I’m also curious if the front can be swapped with a real MAWL front… I may be doing some research and R&D on this one. Stay tuned!
Nice device. Really like the IR components. Good Night Gear delivers as always. My question is what does the blue screw on the bottom, marked 'ALT' do?
As far as I have been able to gather this is more aesthetic than anything. I am no expert on the Meyers MAWL, but on the real MAWL device you would move this blue screw to the other empty position for a different setting and compatibility with other NV products. I moved it and did not notice a difference.
@@PhantomLlamasDen Thanks for the fast reply! I was wondering because as you point out, on other devices, colored screws were used as 'limiters' to prevent inadvertently going to full power settings. Again, thanks for the review and the info!
Assuming this continues to be something I were to keep on the upper I was using, I would definitely recommend a separate flashlight with pressure cap. But, as was suggested in another post I am curious if the LED could be replaced and therefore heavily upgraded. That would eliminate the need for additional weight.
Does the button that activates the laser instantly turn it on and off with taps? Or does it require you to hold it down for a second or two? That was the biggest thing that discouraged me from mawl clones.
@PhantomLlamasDen okay so pretty much instantanious? I know a lot of previous versions would take a second or two to turn on which was a big killer for them.
How many rounds do you have in it now without zero deviation? My Somogear is about 1000 and still zero’d. But the mawl is just the best option in my opinion for a cqb build. Everything you need is in one package.
Believe it or not I have not done too much more shooting with the rifle it's mounted on due to testing and working with other firearms on the channel. I've maybe shot another 100 rounds since this video, but I haven't checked the zeroing. I'll have to get back to you!
What dove tail arm/mount are you using on the NVG30 itself? I can’t find anything other than the dual bridge to be able to run a dovetail and mount to a g24.
I've got one of the new raid x clones coming. I've only seen one video but it held zero for 1500 plus rounds and almost survived being torture tested by someone with basically a teens experience level so I've got high hopes. I want one of the new ogls that's metal with the illuminator however there's only "potted" versions being sold atm and I'll be damn of I'm paying someone 500 plus dollars for a 100 dollar item that now has been taken apart and epoxies and then put back together and screw holes filled with epoxy. I hate these richy rich kids out there that say it was only 500 bucks. No its only 100 to 200 bucks, you stupidly paid someone 3 or 4 extra hundred. Sorry I'm ranting. Anyone reading this please stop paying those proces for a potted version of the same cheap clone that's less than half the price. It's not that hard to take those kinds of items apart and pot it yourself. Matter of fact the epoxy you can buy right from home depot looks far superior than any hot glue looking trash they use. But back to what I was saying, I've heard those new metal ogls are holding zero with 556 like a champ.
The term and only way to setup a laser is called parallel to bore! It’s not a simple zero! And if you set a laser up for the bullet impact spot you have already failed Dbal 101

Will do! I’m continuing to run the MAWL on one of my uppers, so it will definitely be getting more use!
Question -- nvg30s come with ir illuminator built in.
What is the adv of using this as an ir illuminator?
Is the use only for IR laser??

Adjustable gas block yes, buffer weight probably not. The SCAR platform is so good at killing electronics because of the large reciprocating mass.

After getting back to work I may need to get one of these. Also it's about time I get back out with ya to the farm. Can't wait

I just got mine today for the PVS14. Pretty good after some simple tests
Great review! Seems worth it for the IR laser/illuminator. Would you consider running a separate flashlight then?

These are toggle. So press to turn on. Press again to turn off.

Think it would be perfect on a 22
Absolutely! I would argue it's more than adequate on a 5.56, but on a 22lr I would see absolutely NO issues!

The dual bridge actually can be split (you can remove the unused side), so it’s great for a monocular setup as well!
So these will hold zero on a .556 rifle?
My sample size of two seem to have so far. I need to run it some more to push it.

So what I said at 11:30- NOT recommending using a converging zero.
But I like my Ngal

@Gnolomweb I tried them but I like the somogear one
What happened to those prices? They're not that cheap now LOL
Goodnite gear still sells them for under $200..
@@PhantomLlamasDen I just checked that site and the lowest one was $299.99.
I hate that you had to create another channel just for clips. But hey, that’s YT life
Yup- it won’t affect everything but it’ll get us from time to time… and it’s so arbitrary..

@2f5shooter been there for over a year. Sadly we don’t get anywhere near the same exposure. But we are on Rumble!
