He made Currents entirely on his own ? That's nuts. You're absolutely right about the meticulous layers in his music. If his sounds aren't the definition of 'genius' then I don't know what is.
For me, Kevin is one of the most, if not the most interesting musician alive at the moment. The music on his last album is incredible on its own as he finally found his sound. Now knowing that he did the whole thing by himself is unbelivable.. I am in awe of his skill. Really inspirational person
I have never been the same since tame impala. It's like I listen to their songs and my life flashes before my eyes. Kevin truly does capture the essence of introspection, self doubt and hopeless romantic love
the echoes and the feeling that the music is spinning around ur head when u have headphones in is why i listen to tame impala and never get tired of any of his songs!
I think my favorite moment of Currents is New Person, Same Old Mistakes. After the weird psychedelic bridge, when the main riff kicks back in a million smaller medodies transports me to pure bliss. But the best thing about the song is the guitar riff in the verses right before each chorus. Kevin recorded an unplugged electric guitar. Every time I hear it I get blown away. Not only is it very creative and new (I haven't seen anyone else really do this), but it perfectly fits within the music's mood and tone. That's what Kevin is a master at: capturing a mood in a song and knowing the perfect sounds to fit that. Even if it was the same guitar but plugged into an amp, the song would not have significantly less emotion in it. His ingenuity with somehow selecting the perfect instrument, with the perfect timbre and settings, the perfect effects is like no other. Every song he records is so detailed and well thought-out.
I think that is actually a banjo. Like a tribute for "walkie talkie - air" where they used it. And is one of Kevin favourite albums at least that is what he said. Red hot chili peppers used an unlugged guitar in 1991
Chris Hejny new person is the most underrated song on currents. I’m pretty sure he used the synths to imitate an orchestra. Would love to hear it live with a full orchestra. Fucking mind blowing and an incredibly emotional song
if he ever comes near you city... see him live!!! the experience with the cinematography, the lights and the effects are truly mind blowing. he made me feel like i was somewhere else... don’t pass up an opportunity to experience it if he’s ever close
just went to my first concert and it was to see him at the hollywood bowl, incredible. I like all genres of music and figured my first concert would be a rap concert but nope. Tame impala was amazing live.
I put TI's music on my player in May2017. Even while tripping, I just couldn't connect to his music. Then, one day last December, I was quite stoned and I had a track from Currents come through on my shuffle. Holy crap! All of a sudden, he made sense to me. A trip with Lucy, a few weeks later, only served to confirm his genius to me. Shame it took so long for me to "feel" it, but that's kinda how I work. Looking forward to a new album from him.
I had a similar response circa 2013. I enjoyed songs like Elephant and Feels Like We Only Go Backwards but didn't initially gel with the idiosyncrasies of other songs. Fast forward to 2017... seeing them live on a whim with my friend Lucy basically changed my life. The show absolutely blew me away and I'd never experienced anything like it. I've been listening on repeat ever since and Tame is now my favorite artist of all time. Can't wait for new material!
I've listened to a bit of TOKiMONSTA but haven't really dived in. Thanks for the recommendation, definitely going to explore more since I love electronic music. Her story is so intense and so inspiring.
Currents is such an outstanding album. I can barely master the drums let alone all the instruments and the songwriting talent Kevin has. He is on another level, very grateful he pursued his art.
3 days ago i saw them live....ive never felt so euphoric. i cant listen to them without crying now. All my pain, suffering, love, feelings and emotions play out through Kevin’s music and i am SO thankful. He is so talented and a genius!
Just got into Tame Impala recently, and I have to say I never thought I'd "click" with such a music genre. Psychedelic rock, that's my shit, and I found it. It's like finding your soulmate, I swear. Yea there's other artists where I like every song on their album, like Twenty one pilots. But there's none like this guy.
I've recently developped a love for the type of music made by tame impala and MGMT and I just found this channel. Really love your taste and production quality, excited to see the future for this channel.
I live in Fremantle, where Kev lives. Nowadays he just DJs around town at small events and bars, often with his mates from Pond. I think he's just gonna do that for a while and when he feels ready or inspired enough start on another album. Although he's constantly been working on producing for other artists. My guess is Tame won't put out another album until at least 2020. I hope I'm wrong.
As Kevin Parker grows older and becomes more comfortable with album making, I think we will keep seeing an evolution of music styles as his future lineage of albums continue and for what style of music he will take on next, who knows; as long as it’s good music, I’m looking forward to it! As for the theme, it will most likely coincide with who he is now and who he wants to be much like currents, but more of what he has experienced after how he felt while making currents. Currents was more or less Kevin trying to accept a new version of himself and what emotions he felt during his post breakup. I really think he will focus on feeling more like an adult and responsible as well as having a newfound confidence and not so much the feeling of being self conscious. He also likes to record alone and perhaps we will see a dab of isolation once again as we’ve consistently seen in all his previous work.
My dad played me Let It Happen when I was young quite often. Because of that, it’s practically imbedded into me and is in turn nostalgic to me. He is such a special musician who produces incredible music that is so groovy and atmospheric. I’m so glad I listened to the whole album as I’ve seen the cover a thousand times for that is so iconic. Legend. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🔥💖
Personally I was expecting specific details about how he actually makes his music, but this seems to focus on Kevin Parker as a person and an artist. I liked it nevertheless.
I just got into Tame Impala recently so it’s cool to see such an in-depth look at his career and thought process, I love learning about the people who make the music I enjoy! Very well done! You should consider making a video about Glass Animals. Their most recent album, How to be a Human Being, has a pretty cool concept behind it!
I remember listening to currents for the first time and crying literally it brought me to tears. It’s one of those bodies of work that makes you feel it in your body like a vibration. It literally felt like an out of body experience.
It’s officially the longest we have gone without new music. This video is fantastic, thank you for your work making these come to life! Sharing music, artists, and stories with the world.
It’s great to see that this band is getting more and more recognition. They truly deserve it. Kevin’s a musical genius that continues to amuse us fans.
Quite a bit late to the vid but Tame Impala is the whole reason I got into instruments and playing them. I’m trying to get good on bass at the moment! The first time I heard Let it Happen I fell in love with bass guitar. It just has this magical and mysterious sound to it that guitar just doesn’t have on me. I wish I could thank Kevin for making me obsessed with music!
I just discovered Tame Impala recently. and I'm so glad 'cause I've been getting back into that style of music and wanted something new. I was not disappointed. They truly are unique.
Wow this made me start crying in my study hall lmao because I realize how much of an inspiration he is to me. I really think he is what inspired me to truly pursue music
YahuwshuaTruth I can recommend King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard (my alltime favourite 🙂), The Murlocs, The Psychedelic Porn Crumpets, Pond, Oh sees. And so on haha, hope I sparked your interest!
the house shown and also where he’s recording at the beginning isn’t actually his home, its a house in southern WA that you used to be able to rent out. It was briefly operated by a group that allowed up-and-coming bands to play/stream there, however it went out of business during Covid. Recently Kevin came to the rescue and bought it himself though. Absolute hero for all muso’s in WA 🙏🏻
I would love to see you discuss the genre shifts of Portugal. The Man’s albums. I think that it would make for a cool video and would love to see it done by someone like you.
Yes! Pond is easily one of my favorite bands these days. And their last album, The Weather, is not only their best record(imo) but probably my favorite record that entire year. It's _sooo_ good. o__o
"New Person, Same Old Mistakes" is my answer to the question "what is your favorite song?" This song speaks to my soul in so many ways and I just can't begin to describe how much it means to me. I fucking love Kevin Parker, the man is a genius.
I’m hoping for a heavier song on the next album, something like elephant or half full glass of wine but I also want softer stuff like let it happen and it feels like we only go backwards. A more guitar sound would be nice or a keyboard sound, I also think he should have more diverse sounds because on currents it all seems in the same genre and I wish Kevin would experiment more, not necessarily going to a more pop songs or rock but somewhere in between and every where at once But that’s just my opinion
Middle 8 that’s exactly what I was thinking I’m really excited to hear Kevin’s rock/funk/psychedelic sounds I’m also happy that Kevin is a sonic innovator meaning he is creating a sound that I’ve never heard unlike bands like grata van fleet or foxygen( I love them both but they sound as if they were there 40 years ago) a also wanted to say I love what your doing keep it up
The mixing work on this video is quite stunning. Especially at the end, with Eventually's drop, or lack of it, that left me hanging. Now I gotta go back and listen to it again ;)
You deserve so much more subs dude. Your videos are entertaining, informative, and we'll edited. Hopefully you go big someday on RUclips. Keep up the great work!
Imran K Jamil Hahah, a lot of people have actually asked me to do a video on Tame Impala. But since Middle8 already did i'll spare that for another time 😉
Ever heard of Jai Paul? I feel as though he needs a video dedicated to him like this even though there’s not much to go on with his lack of publicity, but I think more people should be made aware of him. Great first three videos! You’ve got yourself a new subscriber. I’m positive this channel is going to be big one day and I’m glad I’m one of the first 5k people to know about it. Also, a mini-doc on MGMT would be awesome seeing as they’re releasing Little Dark Age, their 4th album, in February from what I’ve read. The first two singles are really good.
V L Jai Paul had a great mystery to him and an interesting story. And I did want to talk about MGMT, the new album is shaping up to be a big improvement.
I agree there’s hardly anything out there about the guy , I was doing a cover of jasmine there’s a short clip of me playing some of the cover I was doing of jasmine on my channel!
It would be great timing too. Jai Paul literally just produced a new song for an artist signed to The Paul Institute. Its called Mystery and it's beautiful.
Could I also suggest a video on Gotye sometime maybe? That man is an artist in the true sense of the word and I feel genuine music lovers were too quick to judge him because of his break-out track, the album it's from however is an absolute masterpiece IMO and his progression over the years has shown how much he's willing to explore musically. His tastes are as eclectic as they get and he's got a thirst for exploring new sounds and weird instruments that I haven't seen in anyone else.
Wow. What a great video. Finally someone focuses on Kevin Parker and recognizes his genius mastermind. Yes folks Kevin Parker is Tame Impala. I love this man, his music, and have been following him for about 6 years now. Who's knows how long we'll have to wait for a new album but Kevin will make it worth our wild. Agreed.
i hope not, it's pretty hard to release 5 albums of notable value within in a year. sure, gizzard made 5 albums, but they come across as more 'sketches infused with exploration into other musical modalities' rather than 'wholesome albums', whereas kevin consistently releases brilliant full-fledged albums. this is why i would happily wait 2 years for a tame impala album, the quality over the quantity.
relate so hard because I'm finally launching NICU as an entirely solo indie music project this year put off and shoved down my own music dreams for a decade, can't take it any more So, it's inspiring to see an entirely solo songwriter/producer who's made it to the top and done so with intricate pop/rock music and actual art in his music definitely feel like he's an example of a huge success even tho he didn't put success first his music is great, of course - but right now it's his story that's grabbing me the most :)
Currents could be Kevin's Pet sounds. A perfectionist recording style, but he finally got something great out of it. I hope he won't end up like Brian Wilson on his next shot, failing on his perfectionism, music industry or drug-abuse.
"We need to talk about kevin... parker... he is tame impala." Sounds like a superhero/spiderman reveal.
He was making a joke about the movie "we need to talk about Kevin"

Check out stick figure. He does the music solo
Smoke a lot of weed and then listen to Currents from beginning to end, you’ll love it even more

I saw Tame over the weekend at a festival and I'm still floating on air 4 days later
It’s definitely one of the top things on my bucket list is to see these boys in concerts. Kevin Parker is the man!
I’m hoping for a heavier song on the next album, something like elephant or half full glass of wine but I also want softer stuff like let it happen and it feels like we only go backwards. A more guitar sound would be nice or a keyboard sound, I also think he should have more diverse sounds because on currents it all seems in the same genre and I wish Kevin would experiment more, not necessarily going to a more pop songs or rock but somewhere in between and every where at once
But that’s just my opinion
He’ll have some rock sprinkled into a few tracks but I think Kevin’s moving towards disco and funk.
Middle 8 that’s exactly what I was thinking I’m really excited to hear Kevin’s rock/funk/psychedelic sounds I’m also happy that Kevin is a sonic innovator meaning he is creating a sound that I’ve never heard unlike bands like grata van fleet or foxygen( I love them both but they sound as if they were there 40 years ago) a also wanted to say I love what your doing keep it up
Sometimes you have to understand that it flows better with the same overall vibe.
He might do country for his next album lol
yeah he went full on house music garbage. sad his earlier work was legendary
Saw them at Bonnaroo on 2nd album. Was surprised at how close the live sound was to the recordings. Life changing. Love Currents. Can't wait for more.
Dude you’re killing it hard to believe you just got started.
The mixing work on this video is quite stunning. Especially at the end, with Eventually's drop, or lack of it, that left me hanging. Now I gotta go back and listen to it again ;)
Melody’s album (Kevin’s girlfriend in Paris) is also beautiful. He helped make it. Look up Melody’s echo chamber
ex-girlfriend lol :(
You can really tell Kevin isn't involved in that project anymore after listening to the follow up
what the heck they were dating
@@bezenhappync yea her music after that was shite
It’s a tradition for me to come back to this vid whenever it appears in reccomended
I like Currents, but I really hope we get more of those sick guitar riffs Kevin did for Lonerism or Innerspeaker.
Absolutely LOVE all 3 Albums, can’t wait for the next one. 🔥
You deserve so much more subs dude. Your videos are entertaining, informative, and we'll edited. Hopefully you go big someday on RUclips. Keep up the great work!
Thanks, it means a lot!
Only a select few channels are able to give me shivers, this being one of them. Great video
whoever edited this was a boss
This video tells exactly what i feel about kevin , although i knew everything he told but listening 👂 it from someone else really made my day
Inspiration!
Don't you do something similar...I'm subscribed to your channel too...good stuff...!!!
Imran K Jamil Hahah, a lot of people have actually asked me to do a video on Tame Impala. But since Middle8 already did i'll spare that for another time 😉
I'm only not liking this because 42...
I’m from Brazil and I love Tame impala since last year! This video so amazing. Tks to this! 😍
Also has some of the best music videos out there. Check out State of the Art.
Agreed.
Here I am in 2021… The Slow Rush was worth the wait
Here after the album announcement and I have to say that I have never been so psyched for a new album..
he should just release 5 albums next year
The Ironic Troller shots fired
i hope not, it's pretty hard to release 5 albums of notable value within in a year. sure, gizzard made 5 albums, but they come across as more 'sketches infused with exploration into other musical modalities' rather than 'wholesome albums', whereas kevin consistently releases brilliant full-fledged albums. this is why i would happily wait 2 years for a tame impala album, the quality over the quantity.
king gizzard > tame impala

Hands fucking down
relate so hard because I'm finally launching NICU as an entirely solo indie music project this year
put off and shoved down my own music dreams for a decade, can't take it any more
So, it's inspiring to see an entirely solo songwriter/producer who's made it to the top
and done so with intricate pop/rock music and actual art in his music
definitely feel like he's an example of a huge success even tho he didn't put success first
his music is great, of course - but right now it's his story that's grabbing me the most :)
If you like Tame Impala you might like a band called The Doublejumps
@@andrewmarcellis2007 link me your favorite song by them, I'll go listen!!
@@NICUofficial my favourite tune of theirs isn't out, i've only seen them play it live. However, The garden is a good one to check out
Currents could be Kevin's Pet sounds. A perfectionist recording style, but he finally got something great out of it. I hope he won't end up like Brian Wilson on his next shot, failing on his perfectionism, music industry or drug-abuse.
I don't know why I've been getting recommended all these videos of yours suddenly but I'm happy I am. Great content, man. Keep it up!
The fact that I can relate to Kevin is nice no matter how sad it is.
