  • Are nuts good or not for testosterone production?
The answer is: it depends. There are many benefits to consuming nuts, however most people do not considerable the most important impact of nuts: their fatty acid profile.
Do not eat nuts that are extremely high in polyunsaturated fatty acids, which are terrible for your endocrine system.
However, nuts and testosterone can go hand in hand when you eat nuts like macadamia and brazil nuts - which are higher in testosterone boosting monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFAs) along with some key micronutrients.

Where are all the studies that directly show that eating a certain nut decreases testosterone? You are saying that because PUFA intake has an adverse effect on testosterone, therefore nuts must also, for their high content of PUFAs? If that is your claim, then you have proven nothing. Consuming PUFAs from vegetable oils, which are highly processed and dangerous for your health, is not the same as eating a whole food which may contain the same fatty compounds. In fact, they are incomparable. All I am seeing in this video is a whole lot of assumptions, and no direct evidence, especially regarding PUFAs found in otherwise extremely nutrient dense NUTS and SEEDS.

makes me sad to read all the comments in here about people that are getting discouraged and stressing over the fact that they've been eating almonds and peanuts just because it "might, maybe" ever so slightly decrease testosterone levels SMH.... peanuts and almonds are super healthy foods, their levels of pufas and monos are very well balanced and they have a long health benefit list that WAY outweighs the chance that it "might, maybe" ever so slightly lower your testosterone.

Tony Shoilekoff Tony Shoilekoff i disagree, there aren't any that you should avoid, they're all healthy and good for you (in moderation like everything else)... remember the whole video focuses on one aspect and one aspect only, testosterone production. their findings and "research" are inconclusive speculation at best, that's why they use the word "might" instead of "will". if you want to avoid almonds and peanuts because they "might" "maybe" ever so slightly lower your test levels then by all means.... but saying they should be avoided is crazy talk.

Completely agree with you guys...in fact pistachios have been shown to help with erectile dysfunction in multiple studies. I have mad respect for the guys at anabolic men, but it's important to extrapolate good data from bad data. However, the nutrient profile of the nuts they chose for testosterone are indeed for favourable for testosterone production, so if you're already in the lower spectrum, brazil nuts and macadamia would indeed be better...but walnuts and almonds are not bad for you

This video makes no sense. Of course nuts can be not good for you if you eat a lot, and when i am talking about A LOT, is like all the total fat from your diet, from nuts, and i think that this is very impossible to achieve. Yes, polyunsaturated fat is in general associated with decreased testosterone as is total fat. If you diet only contains this kind of fats you will have problems. Thus, eating a lot of polyunsaturated fat would probably not be a good idea. However, eating a small amount of nuts is unlikely to cause a significant reduction in testosterone. Walnuts and almonds are amazing, and you can eat them in regular basis with measure and not eating a lot, and even will be hard to over eat tose nuts, because they are dense in calories.
REFERENCE> This was born out in a study of senior men that found no significant reduction in bioavailable testosterone from eating 75 grams, a little over 1/2 a cup, of walnuts per day. [2] (A study on women with PCOS showed an increase in SHBG and corresponding decrease in free testosterone. [3] However, PCOS women tend to be overweight with overly high testosterone levels.)
Nutrition Journal, 2008, 7:13, "The effect of walnut intake on factors related to prostate and vascular health in older men
So my friend you are wrong when you say THAT WE SHOULD AVOID THOSE KINDS OF NUTS.

FYI about horse chestnuts -- en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aesculus
"All parts of the buckeye or horse chestnut tree are moderately toxic, including the nut-like seeds. The toxin affects the gastrointestinal system, causing gastrointestinal disturbances. The USDA notes that the toxicity is due to saponin aescin and glucoside aesculin, with alkaloids possibly contributing.
Native Americans used to crush the seeds and the resulting mash was thrown into still or sluggish waterbodies to stun or kill fish. They then boiled and drained (leached) the fish at least three times to dilute the toxin's effects. New shoots from the seeds also have been known to kill grazing cattle."

Great to see people commenting here and questioning him and saying how nuts are healthy.. Not sure why this vid talks so much about bloody testosterone. Most people here probably eat a diet that causes diseased/clogged arteries of which Erectile Dysfunction and Coronary Artery disease are symptoms of.. Diets that will kill you years or decades early.. Testosterone is not what we need to be worried about haha.. And for that matter do people wonder what hormones are in their milk and meats and stuff..?
This guy talks about how pistachios reduce testosterone while not saying anything about the article he uses having a title showing that Pistachios were good for improving erectile dysfunction! So maybe it's not as simple as "More testosterone = good, me want to be big man" haha? Any way the point being I would take this info with a grain of salt haha.. Go read through the studies he cites.. Check what the whole picture is and VERIFY what he's saying is right or not and which bits are correct/wrong. Verify the info you receive don't just take it in without critically thinking/questioning things..
My default place to go is: Nutritionfacts.org where I watch videos from the doctor and his team of researchers who read through 10's of 1000's of studies/journal articles and the scientific literature then make videos explaining the studies.. That's all they do! They're unlike most things I've ever seen since everything they say is backed up by research.. Look up what they have on deez nuts ;) Then go through the studies they cite for each video?
      nutritionfacts.org/?fwp_search=nuts&fwp_content_type=video
I think nuts are very good for you..
Here's what they say about Pistachios for example.. Probably quoting the same research but look what they focus on versus on this video haha.. "Men eating pistachio nuts experienced a significant improvement in blood flow through the penis accompanied by significantly firmer erections in just three weeks-perhaps due to pistachios' antioxidant, arginine, and phytosterol content." They go through the research on how ED and Coronary Artery Disease might be different manifestations or symptoms of the same problem - diseased arteries!

Increasing SHBG is a good thing. I lost about 8kgs and my SHBG increased, my total testosterone increased and I generally am fitter and healthier now. When I was carrying excess weight my SHBG was only about half of what it is now. Hormones are complex, if you are fit and healthy, and can get a boner, then you don't need to worry about testosterone.

Okay, let me inject a note of reality and common sense into this discussion. EATING ANY KIND OF NUTS IS FINE (in moderation of course) as part of a balanced diet rich in natural whole foods (i.e. no artificial or processed crap) as part of a healthy lifestyle that includes 2-5 hours of strenuous exercise per week. I've been eating all these "bad" nuts on a daily basis for decades, and at age 57 I have (vigorous) sex with my wife basically every other day. I've never had my testosterone levels checked, and considering that once-a-week sex is considered average for men in my age group, I sure as hell don't feel the need to do so now.

Exactly!
Here's what they say about Pistachios for example.. Probably quoting the same research but look what they focus on versus on this video haha.. "Men eating pistachio nuts experienced a significant improvement in blood flow through the penis accompanied by significantly firmer erections in just three weeks-perhaps due to pistachios' antioxidant, arginine, and phytosterol content." They go through the research on how ED and Coronary Artery Disease might be different manifestations or symptoms of the same problem - diseased arteries!

I am completely healthy, I do not have diabetes or high cholesterol or high blood pressure, I also have healthy kidneys, liver and heart. I don't believe nuts are unhealthy because I am healthy. Eggs are really good for you, I have read a number of books on health and longevity and they have a LOT of good things to say about eggs. Vegans who naturally have a "moral" agenda will tell you different. One egg has only 75 calories but 7 grams of high-quality protein, 5 grams of fat, and 1.6 grams of saturated fat, along with iron, vitamins, minerals, and carotenoids.
The egg is a powerhouse of disease-fighting nutrients like lutein and zeaxanthin. These carotenoids may reduce the risk of age-related macular degeneration, the leading cause of blindness in older adults. And brain development and memory may be enhanced by the choline content of eggs.

Polyunsaturated fats- Damage the cells in your " pancreas
    PUFAs--short for "" polyunsaturated fats "
Blood Sugar - polyunsaturated fats damage the cells in your " pancreas " that produce insulin ! . If you want to lose body fat and achieve a high level of health, you want a very effective blood sugar handling system. PUFAs can damage this system. For those with blood sugar handling issues the primary focus is usually reduced sugar intake, however, I believe it makes more sense to reduce PUFAs from your diet.
Skin health - PUFAs are closely linked to age pigment formation. In addition, a high level of PUFA in your body means when you are exposed to the sun, free radical damage is more likely.
Metabolism - PUFAs can stress various systems in your body, particularly the rate at which your cells produce energy (i.e. your metabolism). This has numerous implications for thyroid health and general hormonal balance.
Digestion / Immune System - PUFAs can impair protein digestion. Digestion problems are rampant in this day and age, eliminating PUFAs are an often overlooked and very effective way at supporting digestion. Your immune system is closely linked to your digestive system, a problem with digestion almost guarantees a poorly functioning immune system.
Detoxification - The liver plays a major role in detoxification, polyunsaturated fats can overburden the liver. That sluggish feeling you feel after eating out? You may have just consumed polyunsaturated fats .
    Where are polyunsaturated fats present?
PUFAs are present in nearly all foods (even vegetables). While some extremists would say to avoid high-PUFA vegetables I don't believe you need to go that far. Small amounts of unprocessed PUFA in a well balanced diet are unlikely to cause any issues.
The most damaging PUFAs are the processed liquid cooking oils below:
Canola oil, Grapseed Oil, Corn Oil, Soybean Oil, Generic Vegetable Oil,
Walnuts Oil, Cottonseed Oil, Sesame Oil, Peanut Oil, Margarine, Flaxseed Oil.
Foods and oils with very high amounts of polyunsaturated fats include :
    Walnuts.
    Sunflower seeds.
    Flax seeds or flax oil.
Fish such as "salmon" , mackerel, herring, albacore tuna, and trout.
    Corn oil.
    Soybean oil.
    Safflower oil.

Walnuts are great for the liver in small amounts, around 5 walnuts. Keep the liver healthy, and you'll keep your hormones in order. Always make the liver the most important, everything else will follow. All of the body relies on the liver. When the liver functions properly the body can work efficiently, then the liver can rely on the body to do its job while it does its functions. Kind of like the oxygen mask needs to be on the parent first, then out on the child. All of your videos should begin with the function of the liver, than divuldge further information. If you don't like nuts at all and just want to add one or two species to your diet, this information is valuable because it allows you to choose which one. Every kind of culinary nut is high in magnesium and an adequate level has been shown to be of utmost importance for testosterone production. Peanut (and peanut butter) might be high in PUFA's, but has a shit ton of magnesium you can consume in small time. Sure you can take a magnesium supplement, but in my opinion the benefit of secondary plant compounds which haven't been reserched is far superior to an isolated mineral.

Traditional cultures know to blanch (and peel off skin) or soak nuts overnight before consuming.

    How to Remove Phytic Acid
For those worried about the phytic acid content of almonds, you can take steps to remove the majority of phytic acid prior to eating them. Soak your almonds in salt water overnight, then dry them out by placing in a warm oven, a dehydrator or a warm sunny spot until completely dry. The salt water removes the phytic acid and enhances the flavor and texture of the nut. To produce almond milk, a milk-like drink that many use to replace cow’s milk, you must soak the almonds so that the milk contains little phytic acid.

Justin's Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups are my go-to "final 400 calories of the day" snack. Trying to achieve the 100% optimal T-friendly diet at the expense of sustainable happiness is probably letting perfect be the enemy of good. $.02

the human body doesn't do well with extra sugar. not meant to break sugars, rather fats are the most important. I would suggest eating the 400 calories without eating the cane sugar.

Peanuts Are Chock Full of Heart-Healthy Monounsaturated Fats
Peanuts sometimes get a bad rap because of their high fat content. However, the types of fats in peanuts are actually the heart-healthy variety. For example, peanuts contain 80% unsaturated fat to 20% saturated fat, a similar profile to olive oil (Harvard Health Letter, 2009). The type of unsaturated fat is predominantly monounsaturated fats, which have been associated with lower cardiovascular risk. Getting plenty of monounsaturated fats in your diet promotes the artery-clearing process that keeps your blood flowing well and lowers your risk of heart attack or stroke (Harvard Health Letter, 2009).

Brazil Nuts and Macadamia nuts are more expensive and hard to find in grocery stores. went to several stores and they do not carry it. Brazils are usually quite expensive, but you do not have to buy that much.

Walnuts are the only nut allowed in EU to state they provide Omega 3 fats, which overall drives down inflammation which allows liver and testicles to proceed with Hormone creation steps. Just need to eat also go amounts of cholesterol foods; eggs. I eat walnuts often, but haven't had a free T profile analyzed..

Read the article and doing my own research find almonds have only 11g polyunsaturated fat per cup that's less than half of most of the other nuts listed. Macadamia 2g per cup, Brazil nuts 27g per cup.

Exactly! He talks about pistachios reducing testosterone while not saying anything about the article title showing that Pistachios were apparently good for improving erectile dysfunction..
Here's what they say about Pistachios..

I have watched so many videos telling me so many different contrasting things about the same items and ingredients that I shall carry on doing exactly what I have been doing for the last 66 years. Eat normal, don't stuff your face, incorporate veggies, fruits and loads of water in your daily routine AND exercise daily. Another important factor is sleep. Even if you can't sleep 8 straight hours, try to have a nap in the afternoon, if possible. One secret to good health is to keep your stomach as light as you possibly can after 17.00 until breakfast time. Make nutritious broths without animal fat (you can use any animal or bird you wish in reasonable quantity, only trim the fat off and no potato) and loaded with green vegetables and have them in the evenings.

I certainly wouldn't stop eating something I loved eating just because this guy here said so. What does this guy know about your body, and what it needs and how it's set up to break down and utilize food? Your own body should tell you if it's right or wrong, by how you feel after you consume that food. If peanuts didn't give me indigestion I would continue eating them as they've been one of my favorite foods since I was a young child eating spoonfuls of it regularly.

ilkkavu I have to agree. I am herbivorous. I eat a half dozen walnuts a day, one Brazil nut a day, about a quarter cup of peanuts a day, and about a quart of almond milk a day. My cholesterol is very low and my testosterone is very high. I take no supplements at all, eat lots of veggies and lots of other legumes. I am 6 foot, 225lbs, and ripped as shit. Eat your veggies guys. Fixes everything. Oh and I'm 44 years old and run circles around most guys half my age who are eating tons of grass fed meat and taking supplements. I spend about half what they do on food and am twice as healthy.
