Yeah, Vinz Dery is definitely DOPE with the lines he comes up with! Always making a big and direct impact on the messages contained in their songs.

Yes, I've always noticed the Caribbean sound to this song; the message and vocal deliveries from Nico and Vinz respectively makes for a unique and beautiful song.

And, despite the penetrating nature of your mind, Anwar, I saw you HEAVILY vibing out to this song! That's the best part. of the program for me!
I'm a heart guy. I don't pay too much attention to the mind.

Your mind is very penetrating in its analysis, Anwar. I understand and agree with your analysis that Nico and Vinz are solidly in a pop genre. But that is only one influence, and that comes from the Norwegian side culturally. Their marriage of African influence with Scandinavian pop influences, to me, is what makes them stand out in the world's music space.
You also cite Afrobeats at the beginning of the song. . .again, that's only part of the formula. Not only wedded with Norwegian pop elements and arrangements, but you have two former neighborhood rappers and substitute school teachers from Oslo, Norway having to learn American English (Nico speaks with a slight accent; Vinz speaks flawless American English) 2.) learn to sing to the level of the vocals you hear on this, and 3.) learn to sing these songs in English.
You have to remember these guys are both Norwegian by birth, language, and culture. They were once asked in an interview where they learned their English, and Vinz shot back "the Fresh Prince of Bel Air and Eddie Murphy movies."
I love the deep and interwoven cultures around these two brilliant artists. I can show you documentation in Norway-they are Norwegian musical royalty, and have performed (on video) for an event attended by the Crown Prince of Norway.
These former neighborhood rappers and substitute school teachers have left their mark on the music world, American music industry be damned!!!

Yep, I'd agree with your assessment that there's elements of pop in their music and in this song. But that's the whole Scandinavian melodies thing thrown into the mix along with African-inspired rhythms. Makes for a beautiful performance and song here. For me, this is their last great song which was released in '22.

    In those few words.

"Pretty dope!"-you're a man of few words, Anwar, but like I've said before, you say a lot.

I think I've already bought your thesis that these musical acts are "gated" out of the American market. World music is NOT what the American music industry is interested in. Who knows, maybe they're scared of the power of honest expression and the ability of that to move people's hearts, making their target audience more difficult to manipulate.
So, sadly Anwar, I think you've answered your own question regarding Nico and Vinz and countless other musical acts from around the world which do not break into the American market. Nico and Vinz did one tour in America in 2017, and that was it. By the way, they had huge crowds that got bigger at each succeeding concert. It's all documented in Nico and Vinz's documentary "US in the U.S." series. They had a streak across the sky, but, despite having a home in LA, the two of them really have not broken into the American market.
