Kinetic Garden Wind Spinner Restoration

In this restoration I'm restoring this old rusty wind spinner that was a scrap yard find.
My wife spotted it and paid the scrap man $2.00 and asked that I restore it for her for Christmas.
This was a simple but very challenging restoration, removing the old powder coating in the sand blaster took me a good day to remove.
There was so much service area on this project I thought it would never end.
After disassembling I found some old bearings that I had hidden away in my mancave for many years that would fit perfectly.
This was also my first project that I got to use my new powder coating unit. I wanted something simple to practice on so this was the perfect restoration for that.
I tried to be clever so after the first coat of black powder I coated it in a beautiful red and attempted to use the air gun to blow the powder off around all the edges. I searched RUclips for any advice but found nothing. I even tried to use a special feathering paint brush to remove the coating but that was a fail.
In the end I learnt a few things even if it didn't work out exactly as I had hoped.
I'm still happy with the end result and the spinner will look good out in the garden.

Excellent resoration, if that was me I'd have slung it straight in the bin, you have a lot of patience.

Sandblasting powder coat is like jack hammering concrete. Bloody hard work. Still an excellent result mate. I would be sitting in my yard mesmerised by the spinners. They look fantastic.
You got that right, took me hours to get that stuff off. I didn't quite get the effect I had hoped to get but I wasn't going to strip it all back again. Still I was happy with the end result. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment 👍

Mesmerizing, I love the feathering effect method.👍 I have a video coming up soon with similar attempt, but instead of air I used a cork coaster.😊
Thanks my friend. This was my first ever attempt at powder coating. I tried a special feathering brush that I pinched from the wife but it wouldn't move the powder. Can wait to see your results useing the coaster. 👍😁
@@Austeration The premiere will be on Wednesday , hey I believe I had the same powder coating gun as you have but I had to sold that and bought another one. The one I'm using now works with air only no high voltage. The problem I had before, the gun struggled to put anything on top of for example jb weld. The one I have I'm really happy with I can powder over anything evenly.😊
