Embarking on a nostalgic journey, I recently undertook the restoration of a vintage tape dispenser, reviving not just a functional office tool but also a piece of the past. The weathered relic, adorned with the marks of time, presented a delightful challenge. Armed with delicate care and a keen eye for detail, I meticulously disassembled the mechanism, uncovering the intricate craftsmanship of a bygone era.
Each step in the restoration process unfolded like a careful dance between preservation and enhancement. The rusted components were gently polished, revealing the lustrous metal beneath. The aged paintwork was meticulously retouched to recapture its original charm, and any worn-out parts were meticulously replaced with precision and dedication.
As the vintage tape dispenser gradually transformed under my hands, a sense of satisfaction and connection with the past enveloped me. With every click and smooth tape release, I could almost hear the echoes of yesteryears, a testament to the enduring quality of craftsmanship. The finished piece not only serves as a functional tool but also stands as a beautifully restored relic, bridging the gap between the past and the present in my workspace.

HI folks thanks for watching. I only had time for a short one this time. It's been so hot here Australia and even hotter in my work shop.
Nice job. Looks great !
And in the background the noise of a "downunder-bird" 😅
@@foxwhiskeythanks for watching Herby. Yes the Australian Magpie, can be very dangerous though, they usually go for the eyes
@@Austeration Unless you feed them, then they just hang around and warble at you for more food
I love listening to our Aussie magpies singing. 😊🥰🥰🇦🇺🇦🇺
Thank you Cathy, when I am editing my videos I always try and keep them in. Its better than that background hum from the solar inverter. I'm working on that. Thanks for watching
When the "electrolysis soup" is disgusting you know you've done a good job.
Well done, I really liked the clever use of laser cutting.
Thanks my friend, yes the laser was very handy on this job. How would you have made the replacement piece?
Probably with a coping saw and a lot of patience :)@@Austeration
@@LTMS that would have worked also. Thought you would probably come up with a completely different method using leather or something 😁👍
Once again a different item to all the other channels ! Found it adfictive wstching that laser cut bit , which suprised me . Fantastic outcome !! Anyone new here please go back and watch his older stuff all top quality restores
Thanks buddy. It's addictive watching it cut, I like to watch it all the time, it just amazes me every time. Thanks for the kind words 👍
Wow... U totally transformed that pile of rust into a work of art. Fantastic job on making the missing part, specially with the laser 😉👍👑
Thanks my friend, yes the laser was very handy for this job. How would you have made the replacement piece.
@Austeration Don't know.. I would probably use a Tuna can 🤣
@@LittleRestorers probably about the right size. Better than a pizza tray for sure 😅
That looks like new again. Great job brother. I like the variety of items you restore on your channel. Great content.
Thanks for watching Ivan
I think it came out BEAUTIFUL!!!! And I think the tape spool looks FANTASTIC!!1 The only other way I can think of doing it that makes it one piece and not too heavy would be to 3D Print it, but wood is vintage and 3D Printing is VERY modern, and tus doesn't match its age AT ALL. lol
So the only thing I would have done different (aside form custom hand painting it) would have been to nickel plate the 2 screws, cutting edge, and spool rod. BUT it all came out WONDERFULLY!!! :)
Thanks for watching. I think the 3D print would have been good, I need to get one. I was going to plate the other pieces but I ran out of time. It's been so hot here and I haven't had time. Thanks for sharing your thoughts I always like to hear how others would have tackled the problem. Did you happen to see any of my laser projects at all or is that something you don't find interesting ?
It looks very nice ....and built way better than the stuff you can by today for sure !! 👍👍
Thanks Rob. Any thoughts on how you might have manufactured the missing piece ?
@@Austeration If I would have made the missing part ? 🤔 well it would have never look that good mine would have most likely
been uneven 😂😂😂
@@robertmanley7556 lol come on I'm sure you would have done a fantastic job.👍👍👍👍😅
Great work my friend I remember them as a kid at school..Happy New Year...❤
Happy new year to you also. Yes exactly 👍they are all made of plastic these days
Nice video! And great work!
Thanks very much. Please check out some of my other videos when you get a chance, I have a wide variety of projects 👍
That’s showing some of the other channels that you don’t need to incorporate fake rust and dirt to make a good video. Great outcome mate. Simple but effective and entertaining. Watching your laser is interesting for a computer dumb arse like me.
I would have turned the missing piece on my lathe. Wouldn’t have been as nice as yours and nowhere near as interesting.
I agree with you about the heat lately. I have only been venturing into my shed after dark when I’m able to.
Thanks my friend. I still haven't had a chance to work on that project we spoke about. The laser is actually pretty easy to use. I did think about using the lathe also but even then I'm not sure if I could have done as good a job as you. I started to insulate my shed now. I'd love to get out there at night but I can't make any noise. Stay cool and thanks for the brilliant comment 👍
Great Job. it turned out great. I was curious how you were going to get the center piece to hold the tape. Nicely done and color.
Thank you very much 👍 the pin was a furm fit, I just added the superglue to stop it from moving.
That's what I love about your channel. No matter what you are doing you do it with an attention to detail and film style that is awe inspiring! Was that Aqua Man's tape dispenser? Great job as always.
Thanks buddy, it's nice to hear those kind words 👍
Very nice, but I was hoping for a wild colour.
Sorry to disappoint you Bob. I did think about it but changed my mind at the last minute. Thanks for watching
No disappointment, it came out great.
@@19Bmiller glad you enjoyed it. Such A simple restoration yet it still took me 2 weeks.
Класс 👍👍👍
Thank you 😁
How would I have replaced the missing piece? Since I don't have a laser cutter, I would have printed the part on my FDM 3D printer. What amazing tools we have these days!
That's brilliant, that would have been my go to if I had a printer. Its interesting hearing how different people have different tools to solve the problem. Thanks for watching 👍
Hi my friend, I need some advice. I found an old military munitions case in a thrift shop. I thought at first it was a small footlocker, but as I examined it closer, I found a stencil that says Pearl Harbor.
It's made out of inch thick red oak. It's assembled with wood screws, and angle iron brackets. It's original color was dark military green, but it was hastily painted tan. It's banged up, cracks in the boards, and gaps between the boards in the bottom.
The paint us flaking in spots. I want to go more towards preservation, especially the stencil. Yhis one is kind of like that wooden tool box you restored.
Any advice would be gratefully accepted.
Hi Oswald I replied to your comment about this the other day when you asked. Go back and take a look.
Does this dispenser accommodate only those really large rolls of tape or could you make additional holders and put smaller tape (like packing tape) on it?
Very good question Nola, it's not wide enough to hold packing tape but I could have made a smaller spindle to hold the smaller roles. I don't generally use the smaller ones so I didn't even think to either make one or incorporate the one I made to adapt to the smaller size. Very good point I should have thought about it more 👍
WOW. CRUSTY😅
Still need to try this rust removal method
Nice sandpaper dispenser 😮
Brilliant
I love this restoration, fantastic result 👏 😀
@@doinsngoins thanks Steve, just a quick one today. That's about all I have had time for. That dispenser is very handy. I have had it for a while now and I recommend it for those little odd jobs
👌👌👌👍👍👍👍

👍👍👍😆
Dude what drugs were you on when writing that video description? Nice work on the dispenser.
Thanks for watching. Yes it was late last night when I changed it for some reason lol do you think it's too much 🤣
@@Austeration Nope it's perfect. Leave it. 🖖🏾
@@Restorology Dam I thought your taking the piss so I changed it
@@Austeration Haha! No, it was great! I just wanted some of them drugs. 😀
@@Restorology it's called too much coffee and not enough sleep 😅
