If you are curious, this KQED segment from back in the day (2007?) gives a bit more context about some of my instruments. ruclips.net/video/WjPUfGm1XjU/видео.htmlsi=8Ds2j7137yJd9i6w
From the thumbnail I thought this was some gimicky harp turn table. Each string having it's own finger board makes this a bonafide instrument. Very unique, very cool.
Soooooooooo So Cool man.....!!!!!! Unbelievable Craftsmanship and Innovation........And Seriously Sensitively Refined & Tasteful and Seriously Impressive Musical Talents and Musical Touch man as well....!!!!! :) Thanks So much Kitundu......Seriously Impressive and an Absolute Joy to see and listen to as well man too......!!!!! :) :) :) :) :) :) :)
This music sounds really beautiful and special. And, of course, the whole process is fascinating and beautiful as well. I'd love to be able to hear more of the music..!!
Not sure how crazy this is, or if its just a turn table and a harp in the same table. Is there a deeper relationship? Also would be cool to know the rest of the setup
@@arkdmind vibrations from the strings can be amplified via the turntable cartridge. As a dj playing with musicians I was looking for a way to extend what’s already possible when playing a turntable percussively by adding strings and exploring possibilities. In this case, the turntable is playing a serato record and controlling mp3 files on my laptop. Everything can be run thru fx and I have some loopers in the mix too so I can build compositions spontaneously. Thanks for watching.
@@bentucker2301 the vibration of the strings can be amplified by the turntable. Like using the turntable as a big microphone. I’m using the record as a source of sound and as a conduit for percussive and tonal sounds played on the instrument.
@KitunduStudio ah okay fascinating. I was thinking you somehow were playing parts of the record using the strings. Like a midi harp sampler or something. That also would be cool.
I'm pretty sure the stylus is picking up the vibrations from the tone arm every time it's struck. Those record needles are pretty sensitive, you'll even hear your footsteps if your turntable isn't properly isolated.
Hip hop DJs have been using stylus vibration like that for percussive sounds since the 90s and 00s. I'm more interested in the harp part of the instrument! We want/need a breakdown, but I would never blame him for not sharing it, because this is an INSANE patent if it can ever come to market. I hope the inventor invites turntablists with musical aptitude to come try a demonstration, at least for "exposure" reasons.
Time, dedication, skill and creativity are much larger factors. There's been people with tons of money & tools for the longest time, only this guy came up with this
I don't understand. Are the strings somehow playing / gating the record somehow? Or are the strings just being sent out to the amp with the phono signal? Is this just two separate instruments in one package or are they interlinked?
Rare i come across something that someone has made from a musical POV, that gets me genuinely interested in playing electronic music, but you've done that Outstanding.
@@BossHatts for this particular song I was running the output through a bunch of effects. The strings sound pretty harp or guitar or dulcimer-like acoustically.
So... it's just a string instrument housing a turntable. I'm assuming it's more of an art piece instead of combining the two to work together as an instrument? Because I don't see the point of that thing.
@@elephantgrass631 the strings can be amplified by the turntable. It’s an art piece and an instrument and its primary purpose is music. Happily, you seeing the point doesn’t affect its usefulness. Thanks for watching.

Well said....
Bless the algorithm for bringing this to me and long live the creatives!

@Wreniffer a bit more info linked in the description. Thanks for checking it out.

Fantastic use of free will 🔥

That's why we all need the internet - to see someone do something which makes sense after watching it perform 👍
An amazing design. Looks like a lot of fun to play as well. Great demo of this unique instrument.
Such a sick build and use of a Technics 1200 !😍
This must be the craziest instrument I've ever seen... and I've seen a few

beautiful instrument
You turned the concept of turntable isolation on its head. Fucking brilliant.
wow what a beautiful instrument. go you
