      Same for me. Whilst my battery health on the 2018 pro is still around 90%, it's not quite efficient anymore. Compared to that one, this M4 iPad is quite an upgrade with the screen, chip, aesthetics and storage. A bit bummed out about not being able to use the older magic keyboard and pencil...

    I have the M1 iPad 12.9 inch and I ordered the M4 for three reasons. First the landscape camera so I can have my zoom meetings on the iPad. I’ve been using my iPhone on the road or the MacBook at home. It’d be nice to use the iPad for it. Second reason is the Magic Keyboard. I love the added function keys and the material used to make it feel more like a MacBook. Third reason is for the OLED screen. The M1 is already amazing and I watch a lot of movies and shows on it. The OLED screen will just make it that much better. So excited. 😆

    I upgraded from the 2018 11-inch pro. I was holding out for the OLED screen. I pre-ordered the 11-inch 1-TB model. The 2024 upgrades were enough to get me to bite. The M4 chip is an unexpected bonus. I use the iPad as a travel PC since I have to lug my work computer as well. Fingers crossed that the iPad IOS gets some updates to fully utilize the upgraded hardware.

      Yeap. My iPad Pro is my default travel device beyond my phone - but I will say that the 12.9" size can be a bit large for economy class flying. Even so, I can keep it on during the entire flight including taking off and landing. Now that the Air has a 13" model, that is probably the best "plus" iPad for many.

    Thank you for this video. As a iPad Pro 12.9 M1 user too, it a bit of a hard sell for me to replace it and all of my major accessories for the M4 Pros at this time. My current iPad is still snappy and has actually improved in usability with every iPadOS update. I would hope that the majority of iPadOS 18 additions will also work on the M1/M2 Pros. Every two years or longer is perfectly adequate. Seriously, how many milliseconds faster does a video creator need to upload a file? 🤷‍♂️

    If you absolutely need a new iPad, the iPad Air is perfectly fine for most users. But if you have a newer MacBook already, I don’t see this as a necessity to get. I saw elsewhere that someone had traded in their MacBook Pro that was an M2 (I believe) for the new M4 iPad Pro. I personally don’t understand that decision as it will be very limiting in capability.
    We really need to send a message to Apple with our wallets and purchasing power that they either need to vastly improve the iPadOS experience to justify the purchase and heavy price tag or give MacBooks a touchscreen.

      Depends on your use cases for the iPad Pro. It's maybe worth it if you really want to see things bigger, have a bigger keyboard (if you get the keyboard), and have a few more window position options. Artists for example might really make use to the bigger canvas. There doesn't appear to be a technical hardware difference this generation like there was in the last gen (11" got LCD while the 13" got mini-LED). As a 2018 12.9" iPad Pro owner, after a while it is kind of big and kind of heavy with the Magic Keyboard, to the point I would consider downsizing. Personal preference

    Quite an interesting video.I did not have high expectations for the Apple Let Loose event other than the hardware updates which were correctly leaked days before the event.While the hardware specifications of the iPad Pro new and previous generations are quite impressive and segment leading.The caveat has always been iPad OS and the lack of professional applications.The upcoming WWDC and the impending launch of iOS 18 will greatly effect the upgrade/purchase rate of the new iPad Pros.A key point of note is that the new iPad Pros have only changed the z height of the device,the 13" which is just rounding up from the 12.9" iPad Pro still has the same X and Y dimensions.Bluetooth keyboards such as Brydge Max+ keyboard will still work with the new iPad Pros.

    After pricing a NEW 11” Pro and realizing the cost, I am a bit perturbed that the camera does not seem better than my original 2018 11” Pro that I will be upgrading from. How will this affect producing Spatial photos/ videos, as a complement to the VP. I was hoping to have Spatial photo/ video capability on this new 11 Pro or something like a new Mini Pro version…
    As of NOW only the iPhone 15 Pro series produces such content outside of VP…
    🤔

    I would have upgraded if it had more ports but it’s nothing but a spec bump the redesign was underwhelming too. Lees durable smaller battery no wide angle camera and now have to wait for all new cases for the m4 iPad Magic Keyboard. Since it doesn’t protect your iPad.

    I think I will wait for wwdc to happen so I know if the 1 TB version with more ram is required if they make iPad Pro m4 compatible with Mac OS. That will be the only reason I would abandon my 2018 iPad Pro 12.9 to upgrade to m4. Improved camera and OLED screen and better pencil are all nice to have but don’t offer me workflow improvements over the 2019. Reminds me of when home stereo hi-fi equipment ‘improved “ year over year with changes in led readouts, product colour styling and the specs AND statistics and graph after graph. More watts, improved sound to noise ratios and noise reduction moving percentage points. You still could only play as Loud as comfortable for your neighbours. The apple marketing speed improvement charts left me scratching my head as to how my productivity would improve over my using 2018 pro. I need a calculator app and I need a preview app to edit screen shots I saved to iCloud or photo roll and I need a file manger and conversion apps to ingest multiple files both pics and audio and video. Otherwise the iPad is just a big phone that lets me quickly answer one off email or check a spreadsheet or a 7 page text document. A just in case machine and not my everyday production machine. 🐬

    Just give us a desktop page on ipados that is free of any grid layout. Maybe the last page to the left can be the desktop page where you can paste any kind of files you want, create desktop folders for files you want quick access to. I feel that would help bridge the gap a tiny bit.

    The people are critical, do you really not care that it has the tandem OLED? OLED screens are just soooooo much better and double layer for extra brightness, how is anyone saying this isn’t a huge improvement? (You just clearly have no care for screen display quality )
    M4 is overkill but that makes it super future proof.

    • @commentarytalk1446
      @commentarytalk1446 12 дней назад

      I thought future proof was a good investment but then I considered: What happens if Apple releases an M5 iPad in 12 months or 24 months that also runs MacOS or some version of that within iPadOS but Apple then LOCKS that in the latest models not today's models which run the same OS as eg iPad 9th Generation for example.
      I think it's better to go cheap/budget - save money and upgrade when eventually Apple upgrades the OS - but only for the new models (as they always do)!

    • @ThatTimeTheThingHappened
      @ThatTimeTheThingHappened 12 дней назад

      @@commentarytalk1446 but again… the OLED (especially tandem OLED) is such a big improvement. OLED screens are just soo much better.

    I ordered the new pro. It'll be my first forey into the pro line. If I had a pro already there wouldn't be any need to upgrade. That Oled with 120hz is what really sold me over the air. A portable high quality monitor for creativity like photo editing and video grading is something I'm looking forward to. And the m4 will no doubt last for years considering the comments about the m1 still being more than good enough. 🐬

    Excellent review. In agreement with you regarding iPadOS and how iPadOS 18 will be a defining moment for the iPad system at least for the foreseeable future. But I could not keep waiting. I sold my M1 iPad Pro and got an M3 Macbook Air, all because of the software. Well, maybe we'll have to wait for the post- Tim Cook era.

  • @2nd-place

    There are only two reasons to get a new iPad in 2024 since the OS sucks:
    1. Your iPad broke and is prohibitively expensive to fix
    2. You need more storage and can’t offload enough to iCloud
    Even if your battery sucks, you can get that replaced. And as much as the iPad Pro costs, you’re much better off doing that.

    I Agree with Fernando …it’s probably smart to wait til wwdc - I also have the M1 iPad Pro and have been waiting for a reason that hasn’t really come to upgrade a device that is still 100% capable despite getting on in years. But that said I bought the new one anyway, and the real reason…. They gave me a decent trade in value. $550 off is a darn good coupon. I don’t know how much longer it’ll stay at this level, and if I wait for a miracle upgrade - I may end up having to buy it without much of a trade in at all which will hurt even more. Plus with Apple Card - interest free payments. I was just ready for some newness. Not saying it’s the financially smart move - but sometimes you just need a new thing to reinvigorate things.

    Looking forward to the next MacBook review - it does what the old one did, you have to ask if that’s worth a $1500 update or not. Weird how general MacBook being faster is an important element of choice to upgrade but on iPad it’s downplayed? Most devices you shouldn’t update for several years anyway so at that point it’s good to have a noticeable bump in performance regardless if ipad/macbook/other

    If Apple actually offered trade-in credit for perfectly fine accessories like the Magic Keyboard and Apple Pencil (Gen 2) then I'd totally upgrade from my M1 iPad Pro. But they don't, even though they've now made both accessories useless. And selling them myself on eBay or Kijiji isn't exactly ideal and likely won't even sell.

I am tempted to get a M2 Air and new pencil pro and keep my 2018 as my digital sketchbook/ studio computer.
