South African retailers need to game up and not cry wolf, the clothes have no variations to design and style, its like the same old boring thing again and again and on top of that its ridiculously expensive
So sad and so true they are making living in South Africa impossible even our tax's are sky high for a country that does not have a lot of individuals employed.
It's not about the price, it's about the variety of products. Seen the same with Amazon, they tried creating something that already exists, instead of opening up internationaly so consumers have access to stock from abroad
The South African textile and fashion industry needs to do better! I'm not paying more for cheap, ugly clothes. Don't get me wrong; I will pay provided that the product is well made, doesn't have poor stitching, and doesn't fade easily, but even the expensive shops are selling knock-offs now.
This country grants its people nothing unlike rest of world. Why cant we buy goods at cheaper prices. Everywhere you get milked where the government is involved. People cant afford expensive goods here. Stop beingnbeing selfish government snandd help your people try and afford some goods at a fair price
Isn't it time dat South African retailers stop acting like someone stole their favourite toy and look at why we buy from Temu and Shein. I am a plus size woman. I also want to look pretty. My options are Edgars, Foshini's, Truworths, Woolworths, Pick and P clothing and Pep. I can buy a whole outfit from underwear to footware, a dress/pants, a t-shirt/sweater/jersey from Temu, excellent quality for the price of one of these items at one of those shops. The choises are endless, while when I have to go shopping at South African clothing retailers it will take a whole day or multiple days, and seldom will I find 1 item that costs the same as all of those together. Quality is poor, choices in my size are minimal, client service is terrible - they do you a favour to sell clothes to you. So rather than searching a whole day long and finding nothing, I can sit in my armchair and pick out anything I can dream about in my size and colour and like I said excellent quality.
I agree with you 100%.. And there is a huge variety of funky, trendy, sexy clothing items available at shein and temu for plus size curvy girls... Not the oversize frumpy outdated clothing available here in SA..
This month I bought a black "bubble"ankle length coat at Mr Price for under R400. Thank you Sh£in. 🙏🙏🙏Been seeing them on AZEEUN markets for the last ten years. If it wasnt for the cpmpetition, they will keep making nothing longer, below the hips, because it needs more fabric, less profit. The fashion is 10 years behind the times.
Wrong one man loses 3.5 billion which he usually stashes over seas meaning SA loses that money anyway...So yeah makes no difference atleast the chinese charge less...so let em have it 🤷
Yes takealot is slow, last month I ordered and my order took two weeks to get to me cause apparently 1 of my products was at the supplier, why put sometimes on ur website that you don't physically have, note I would of bought from Amazon but Amazon is not fully stocked yet but they sure know how to run a business, when I order with them the prices are great and best of all I don't have to wait I get next day delivery.
Their clothes are poor quality rubbish. I do alterations and I fix brand new rubbish, but I can't make clothing any more because I can't compete with the price. One of a kind, well fitting clothing compared to ill fitting badly made. They are dumping their rubbish on us.

@aslam7952 she might be working for retail 😂😂that's why she probably feels this strong about this,if they dint wake up and stop over charging consumers this industry will be lost
Mzansi retailers need to understand that their clothes are expensive and with poor quality.
Dude so are the ones from our retail sellers and more expensive to add insult to injury 🤦🤷
100% agree!
South Africa you mean

They must also improve their style that's the main reason people shop online they sell us dull outfit we can't dzeal.
It's R3.5bn that would have ended up under someone's mattress anyway, can they let us be!

Agree; it's either skrr skrr clothing or old grandma frumpy outfits.
We tired of seeing ppl wearing the same thing as us😭

Less money to steal by tenderpreneurs and anc cronies.
I wont stop buying from Temu as i get exactly what i want with so much variety 😊
Did you purchase recently coz I need to know how the rule actually work.
Is it still worth it
To be honest our government does not think about those who don't have money it was a cheap way for poor people to wear nice clothing
100%! They only care about getting their grubby little paws on more tax money. Food is so expensive Pick 'n Pay is bankrupt.
So sad and so true they are making living in South Africa impossible even our tax's are sky high for a country that does not have a lot of individuals employed.
The retailers must up their offering.
If you want to compete start developing thats all. All I hear is Amazon beneficiary complaining about cheap prices.
Who cares for the plight of local retailers who over charge us anyway for low quality products
It's not about the price, it's about the variety of products. Seen the same with Amazon, they tried creating something that already exists, instead of opening up internationaly so consumers have access to stock from abroad
True, visited their app, it's so dissapointing, nothing new.
Wow they lost 3.5billion, they are sad it didn't go into there own pockets
Ofcourse that's jobs taken away what do you think?
What about all Chinese malls cash only. If we pay with cards+5% for services fees
Yes

Foshini has such low quality clothing now
Why is the tax 45% Enklek?

100❤ and the "longer" in fashion styles below the knees are to be found online. We actually have brains too, not pumpkins between our ears.🎉❤

Because we cannot afford the stuff here.
There’s no local retailers, where must you get merchandise. What a ridiculous cabal approach, giving locals exploitive options
Not stopping anytime soon buying on TEMU and SHEIN its easy for me #CURVE WOMEN while other shops # Small cut like😳😳
.....,,,,,
Especially since they closed Donna Clair
What has local retailers learned
The need to lower prices provide variety of designs for the consumer, stop giving consumer lame clothes
But SA's tax is also out of control.
that the consumer actually has a brain😊
Takealot Takealot! Takealot seems to be a bit shaky with the entry of Temu and Shein! Not to mention Amazon is already gaining some traction in SA!

It's fair, we require a fair landscape of competition. Such concessions gives volume and favor to growing traders.
So where is this tax money gonna be allocated to? Probably not going to see it.
We must fight this not just complain

Tax them SARS. Even if you push to Temu and shein being blocked in ZA.
Why should they be blocked? Most of the products you buy at the malls is made in China anyways. Should we ban all those products as well?
And then buy from spaza shop ???
