Excellent Work Mike! Mike knows. He was the lead staff engineer for Electric Lady Studios in the first half of the 90's. He was there with all the real devices esp this one. it could be rented for a session - David Reitzas rented this for Whitney's " i will always love you " at electric lady when the Focusrite was there, and David did the mix me assisting on a sat/sun. Michel White taught me the GML George Massenburg Limited - automation computer stuff/ command line OS on the motorized touch sensitive VCA faders on the Focusrite that could launch pencils across the room.

Hi Mike, I find the Overloud Fairchild to be exceptional ,they modelled 3 deferent ones also, extreme low dsp and equal to Uad if not better, its subjective I know but totally deserves your attention, I know you like a Fairchild,kind regards.

I swear the native sounds better than the DSP version, almost more natural where the DSP version has a more muddy low end, I spoke to a uad rep tho and he swore up and down that the algorithm was exactly the same for both, im still not sold however.
Such a great informative video, thank you! Any ideas for good applications of Time Constant 1-4 settings? I and most people I know usually only use 5, sometimes 6.

What are the benefit of placing plugins on the master track as oppose to placing plugins on an Aux that is feed from a master
Bus processing effects all sounds directly like a blanket over the entire mix, where as sends and bus processing is like wrapping each bus in its own individual blanket, more editing will be necessary to get the busses to sound cohesive than applying the same processing on the entire mix, pros you can find some great sounds, cons takes away time from the creative process that can leave you distracted or doing too much
Mike have you looked at Arturia Comp TUBE-STA - a worthy alternative for a fraction of a price!

Its fantastic but its a STA Level not a Fairchild
@@Rhuggins this is from the manual - Triple Mode combines faster attack and release, although the release is still quite slow. This combination of faster attack and yet still slow release times gives the unit a behavior closer to another famous tube compressor, the legendary Fairchild.
@@usedusermoser thats describing the compression characteristics of a specific setting….but its still an emulation of a Gates Sta level, an altogether different unit. Though, they are both VariMu tube compressors over 50 years old, the fairchild has way way more tubes and transformers than the sta level
Way too subtle for my taste.
