I think Alexa is a great device and have 4 of them around the house. But dimming the lights and locking the front door is absurd. And expensive because you have to buy all of the smart devices to do something that merely entails walking across the room!
I guess if the cost is a problem then no. But dimming the lights 10 minutes into the movie after getting all snuggled up, PRICELESS

If you have an electronic lock, Alexa or not, you can do some amazing things. For instance, If I am away and a plumber, electrician, etc needs to get in I can unlock and relock my door. I have been out of state and had an issue. I let my neighbor in to check it out.
These skills are great but are very seldom used, as you just pointed out. I skills I can use all the time.
I Love having Alexa turn out the light in the bedroom, as I cannot reach it when in bed. Then, in the middle of the night, when I have to get up ( every night), I can have the light turned on to Red, so it will not blind me and completely wake me up. LOVE THIS!

None of my smart plugs devices work. I have 10 devices from 3 different manufacturers and none will connect. I have done everything as instructed and I have spent hours trying to connect them to no avail. I have tried Amazon, Wemo and several others. About two weeks ago I bought two from Amazon and ended up sending them back. I hav 5 echo dots and one echo show and they all work great. Just not the smart devices.
