- The investigation of the murder of Bella Bond began with the body of a little girl inside a plastic bag found washed ashore on Deer Island in Winthrop, MA.
From the day Bella's body was discovered on June 25, 2015 to mid-September 2015, investigators worked tirelessly to spread awareness of the case throughout the community to garner tips that would help them identify the child who became known as 'Baby Doe'.
Their search efforts led to a tip that turned the investigators' attention to a couple in Dorchester. Thus began the Bella Bond trial. A case comprised of heartbreaking evidence of how a child was harmed by the very people who were meant to protect her.

This is the 3rd murdered girl case I knew that the fathers came tooooo late to save their daughter. Since they already abandoned the daughters in infancy. Those children are so damn adorable and beautiful.

People have gotten much severe prison sentences for a lot less, and this POS gets only 15 years. There's a case here on RUclips where a mother got life in prison for deliberately super gluing her little girls hands together.

it's possible he didn't want custody, but that doesn't mean he didn't care or wouldn't be heartbroken. Sometimes people know they can't take care of kids. Maybe he was trying to work himself up towards it. Either way, I think he truly realized once he'd lost Bella for good that he wished he'd been in her life even a bit. Letting a person have a child after two are taken away by CPS is awful, I agree. If they don't take the child away, they should at least check up on them all the time. A lot of people let this little girl down.

Depending on the state (like in Oklahoma, for example) if a parents rights are terminated and they're deemed an offending parent then DHS will come get any children they have after that as well. Not everywhere is like this though, and the system is massively overwhelmed, understaffed, and under-qualified.
The girl was conceived in an “Occupy Boston” tent, I’m assuming both of them were heroin addicts. The poor girl should’ve been put up for adoption from the get-go.

We don't know the history between the father and mother. i am sure she used that baby as a pawn, the courts tend to believe leave the mother, even when they have a horrific file on them already. Maybe this guy doesn't have $ to get a lawyer and go to court every 2 months. a mother can make any accusation and CPS has to investigate....... And then the father has to prove he didn't abuse the child, another lawyer, court to go over CPS findings, another lawyer etc......Doesn't make it right, but some men just give up, especially if he has never even bonded with her....If you don't have $ in this country are going to lose your court case every time!

Exactly. She claims she was scared. Hell I'd gladly die to protect my kid. And knowing what he had done, I would have killed him for revenge. Instead she helped him cover it up and kept silent all that time. She is by no means a victim here.

I live in Greater Boston and I remember this case very clearly. It was all over the news and it made me feel sick to my stomach. I remember thinking “who would do this to a child? And why hasn’t she been identified.” McCarthy should’ve gotten life without parole. As far as Michelle Bond, she got off too easily. She admitted to witnessing the murder, accessory after the fact is too kind of a charge

You don't know if he abandoned her. Many times the courts aren't very friendly to the biological dad. The mother can be a monstrous person, but she will still be allowed full custody.
I know it doesn't take a funeral to finally see your child.

That poor little mite. It's absolutely inexcusable what happened to her and 15 years is not enough of a sentence for her killer. As for her mother, it sounds to me as if she loved her drugs and her boyfriend more than she did her own child. She may cry now but it's too little too late.
It's not 15 yrs. He got life in prison, with the possibility of parole after serving 15 yrs. Parole isn't guaranteed. He may serve 15. Or he could never get out. It's up to the parole board.

It's insane it took anybody so long to come forward with an identity. People knew her parents, she lived somewhere, had neighbours, crossed thousands of people in her lifetime and nobody could identify her at all. That's crazy to me
When that neighbor woman said "I was going to ask her where her little girl was, but it was none of my business..." I realized this is why nobody came forward sooner. People just don't want to get involved. It is so sad. I would rather apologize after the fact for getting involved then to sit there and be complacent. Silence is being complicit in my book.
The picture of the lost child was spot on...i heard this story before , when they saw the bones of the child , they try to reconstruct a picture through the bones so they will know how she looks like when she was alive..and they made a striking resemblance.

I remember this case. The reason no one thought it might be Bella is because they originally thought the child was about 4 years old and Bella was 2. People were looking for a missing 4 year old.

This is heartbreaking. I work with kids that are the age Bella would be if she was still alive today. She deserved to grow up and become her own unique and wonderful person. I've really gotten a new appreciation and understanding for how different and how special everyone is, and I wish that Bella would have gotten the chance to become who she was meant to be, whatever that was.

Relatives, neighbors and authorities all knew Bella was being neglected, in the very least, yet there literally was no one that did anything. As far as I'm concerned, people like the godmother or the biological father can all F off, too, with their tearful interviews after the fact - they didn't do anything to help Bella, either. This is just a disgusting case all around.
