- This short movie shows our guilds log builder/forester Andrew and his son Andy cutting down by hand an old pine tree for our log buildings. Trees are cut down in the winter time by the new moon, following an old carpenters calendar when is the best time to cut down the trees for buildings so that the timber once it will dry during the years become strong, hard and durable.
They are very good with the sharp instruments. Slivovica Bacon Bread Tobacco…… Good work.
These are never long enough, we need an hour, NRK slow TV style. Love this channel. Thank you for these beautiful videos.
Aham, the ultimate slow TV would be if NRK made a show from standing tree to mounted log, ie felling, bucking, transport, drying, detailing, etc. 1 yr or so ...
Oooops sorry, from seed to log cabin .... 120-40 yrs?
Beautiful video, made me miss my grandfather, he and my father had a small furniture carpentry when I was a kid and before I started school I gpt to tag along with them when they where felling trees to later cut up drying and then for use in the shop, the day I turned five my father gave me his old small axe he had in his backpack for many years, and after that untill I started school and on weekends when I got to the woods with them to ger more lumber I got to join them cutting the branches of the trees they felled. That is one of my fondest memories of my grandfsther and of my childhood and it is something I would one day get to share with my kids.
Wish these were so much longer, I could watch this stuff for ever. So comfortable to watch
i would watch this for hours !!!!!
I look forward to a time when how long it takes to complete a task is not the main goal.
Thanks for showing how peaceful work can actually be.
Split wooden wedges! Impeccable limbing technique! Using bucksaw as a measure to buck to! Lovely technical detail.
Superbe vidéo . La vie en forêt reste un endroit de liberté . Merci
Just out in the snow dressed like a teacher in his classroom. So dope.
Pine trees are amazing
And to finish with some Peterson mixture? Wow! Best video.
I've had the privilege to work with similar hand tools in my childhood, and I have derived great pleasure appreciating just how quality and well maintained your tools are!
Beautiful video, Craftsmanship forever!!!!
I gasped like a child when I saw Northmen uploaded a new video. Thank you!!!
I didn't have much time, so I do appreciate these 4 minutes videos. Keep up the good work.
I love the sound in every one of Northmen videos. These guys know what is the most important thing and they let you enjoy it.
Those videos are really entertaining! I love to see old craftsmanship 👍🏼
Now this is life 🙏
Work hard. Stay humble. Chapeau!
People dom't understand that the reason the upload rate is so slow is because they really do this stuff in real life throughout the year. They are always doing something and keeping busy.
It's been awhile, but it's nice to see another video.
Please, make more about these type of "movie"! Grandfather is the origo, but people need to show them the LIFE!
Simply fantastic! This is how wood should be processed even nowadays. No noisy stinky oily machines in nature/forrests!
The pipe at the end 👍
Watched this with a bowl of plum pudding in a corn cob on the porch. * I am the proud keeper of many Peterson pipes. Excellent video 🙏
When the music starts is like "I wanna be there, living that moment"
Unfortunately, the one thing video cannot convey is the smell of the fresh cut pine and the wonderful aroma of the pipe tobacco. Well done, gentlemen.
Great video. I could watch this content for hours!👍🏼
No rules...nothing...just you and the nature...amazing❤💪
There’s a whole philosophy here that is undeniable and apparently sustaining even to my untrained eye. So beautiful!
*cuts down tree*
Makes an amazing movie.
It’s always a good day when Northmen posts a new video!👍
Awesome oldschool.
Amazing to see the care and dedication of the craftsman skills. Hard work and humble attitude, things we should all strive for. Respect!
Ain’t snow just the stuff, we only get it high in the mountains here in New Zealand, not at low levels where our small town is. Hokitika on the West Coast. Good shit guys
*Nice project. I hope they planted a seedling* in the spring, in this same spot.
Also, one huge advise : do keep more distance from the falling tree, because it can jump back, if it tangles up in other trees, or when it jumps up on impact. More distance !
I am a non smoker, but man I love smell of a pipe. Maybe because my Dad used to smoke them. Smell was pleasant not over powering. Brings back fond memories.
This is life! No need for gym's and jogging, you get all the exercise you need while doing something of value!
You're back ! Good.
Excellent filming
Wonderful to see. The man in the jumper looks very Irish, even his jumper has Aran/Irish features and then the Peterson Tobacco. shows how close are peoples are
I already heard about so called "moon wood" from an old Austrian, but I never seen people practise this old knowlage. Thank you for showing it to us.
Pierre Dole would u explain what moon wood is? Not really getting it
Yes please explain what moon wood is
Wonderful videos, I'm always happy to see new ones.
Awesome vid. I'm currently training to become a tree surgeon and vids like this make me want it even more i'v been studying bushcraft for about 5 years now the natural world is just awesome.
Man I remember doing this kinda stuff but as a kid and with modern power saws and tools
Keegan Townsend we did the same as kids.
This guys videos cause my soul to ache. We are a doomed species lest we revert to these time tested means of living.
Always great videos. Thank you
Nice, simple ways are best.
Love it. Thanks for this awesome vid again!

Душевное видео. Уже зиму захотелось у нас.
Awesome video and thanks for sharing
These videos are spectacular. 🤘🏻
Is amazing how straight they cut the wood!!! Just with their own hands...
Liked it even before it started. Knew it was going to be good.
Also, caught the Latvian language there :)

Since I love woodworking and I smoke a pipe... I know this feeling!
streight to the heart

Greetings from Poland ^^
Brilliant filming!
Good to see a new video, and wonderful to see the pipe smoker . It made me want to pull out my old Falcon and lite up again.
Nice!
Perfect👍
Nice fall on that tree - it could so easily have got hung up in that dense growth - kudos!
as the old pine fell we sang just to bless the morning
Craftsmanship forever!!!!

Hi, wow..cool man
I have the northmen code of ethics posted on my fridge in the workshop
rorythemixmaster awesome idea. I’ll do that...have you added any cool scenery/old style fonts or just done a word document?
@@TheNickHorton Mine is very basic for now (word). Helps keep it in your mind. One of these days I would like to put it on wood and hang it.
Nice
So epic
Wish you guys would post more often
Vrhunski... :)

I just realised this channel was John Neeman channel and I'm subscribed since you posted the video "the birth of a tool part 2". I remember that someday I was looking for the part 1 and noticed it was deleted, so you uploaded again with another song but I wanted to know what song was in the first video haha
The other version had the song Holocene by Bon Iver, it's still on RUclips on some Russian dude's channel
My 1st visit to the channel
My 3rd second in the vid
I gave a like for the title ❤
I really like those saws I wish we had some like that in the United States
I Wish i had American saws in Europe, no joke: i like plain tooth saws but i love American Champion or lance saws, pretty rare in Europe
Strange world, isnt It?
You two should exchange saws or something. :D
I have a saw like this for two people I could sell to you if you are interested. In excellent condition, very sharp and cuts the wood like butter. Made in USSR of a high quality steel. Hit me up if you are interested.
@@ViktorSuhov I would be interested in your saw if you still have it. How long is it
Work hard. Stay humble.
