- This is a short version of an upcoming documentary uncovering 10 day timber framing and log building course led by American Timber framer and Carpenter Collin Beggs in Latvia, Old manor Ratnieki at July 2018.
Almost all of the students are non experienced woodworkers from all over the world coming from different backgrounds and having different professions, but all came for a passion for wood and to learn traditional carpentry using hand tools and to believe what can be achieved with their hands if you have a good teacher to follow and a will to succeed.
Our way of teaching is hands on learning. Theory is just few hours in first day.
Hands not machines.
Music by Jack Joseph Band
Full documentary coming soon!
The Northmen videos always bring a calm to my soul. The frame looks beautiful guys. Nice work!
I saw nothing for these students to be embarrassed about , everyone has to start somewhere and it looked like your tuition paid dividends. Well done to everyone involved. Looks like a worthwhile, fun project. Thoroughly enjoyed this video. Thank you and best wishes from Britain 👍
Apprenticeship is time honored and is a very valuable way to go. Thank you for all your efforts to advance the craftsmanship! Dedication means EVERYTHING!!!
I can recommend this course to anyone. These people really take pride and patience in teaching you, and showing you the beautiful Latvian countryside and culture. Even if you're not necessarily passionate about woodworking, these two weeks will give you much more than only skills and knowledge in woodworking.
Inspirational! I am sure these men will go forward in bringing quality craftsman to the world!! That will be a blessing to humanity, THANK YOU!!
Like all things coming from Northmen, are a piece of art.
Greetings from Chile.
When men come together in peace anything is possible. I love this. And of course my comment doesn’t mean to exclude women, they are equally powerful, but seeing true craftsmen is inspiring. My home will be made this way one day. Thank you
Encouraging to see that people are still willing to learn this. Great.
Can’t wait for the full video! Hopefully one day I can do the course!
I am a beginner to woodwork, the main test I have with this bundle ruclips.net/user/postUgkxTNB_zFBSnTo_O1PqfVUwgi7ityw0JlKt is that I think that its hard to settle on a choice of the plan and outline to use as there are a large portion of them there. Nonetheless, I like the simple stride to step directions laid out there.
What a beautiful thing to witness men working together in harmony...not like the typical construction sites that most men deal with for years on end...not to mention the spectacular project you guys built!
That looks like a very enjoyable course. Beautiful frame.
incredible work...especially when it's yours...I was fortunate to do like kine for 20+ yrs...nothing like driving home the last peg...
Truly a work of art. Thanks for sharing and can wait to see the full documentary on this project.
I'm an experienced timber framer and I want to take this class. I learned a lot just watching the video.
When you are engaged fully in the task at hand and use proper technique, your feet are never in danger. Lovely work!
You guys do such a great job inspiring to be true to the “human” side of crafting... I know, because I want to make something every time I watch one of your videos.
The simple pleasure of having pride in a job well done. Thank you, gentlemen.
Everything you do is exceptional, thank you for your hard work. It is inspiring.
don't need to go to the gym, just learn to be a carpenter. In the end, you have both muscle and furniture, maybe a house.
Does not work that way , I’ve been building for thirty years plus and my conditioning comes from diet and the gym , I know I work with a large amount of unfit people.
So, did you have a house so far(1 year later to your comment)?
"Hands-On", is by far the best way to learn something.
Well done men.
Congrats Northmen!
Hands and brain, not machines!
Amazing facilities and crew also!
Fernando from Nova Petrópolis-Brazil.
Always happy to see a new video from you! Hands not machines indeed!
This is incredible to me, I am in love with Timber Framing and finding this channel and all that's here...WOW!!!
Full props to the students who no doubt got so much fulfilment from this course. It was a great video (short though) to watch and produce such a beautiful structure. I love the design which is unique to the many timber frames I have seen. I love the way the rafters tie into the ridge beam. Brilliant! Well done and I hope that these students will continue to use this skill that they learned for future builds. Cheers!
These trades are the foundation stones of western culture. It’s how we build the world.
Talk about skills. And what a beautiful barn/shop !
Gently masterful; inspiringly profound.
This is great! I love to see everyone able to learn and grow in their crafts. I look forward to attending a workshop like this too.
That was actually incredible!
Norsemen, this is a wonderful video. People are learning as they should. My only complaint is the barefoot instructor...oh well, they are his feet.
I do everything barefoot too; logging, woodworking, multi-day 60+ mile hikes in the mountains, often off-trail, playing in the snow with the kids, going to the hardware store, restaurants, wherever, whenever. I only use shoes to go to my kids student of the month ceremonies or being in the snow for more than an hour or so. It's about the primal essence of it, and nothing else feels quite as good.
Northmen are all masters, and it's beautiful seeing whar us laymen can do along side with Northmen guidance
Thank you for this! Love everything you guys do. Amazing skills!

Bravo les mecs ! Super travail à l'ancienne !!
I love this!
This is so wonderful
Nice atmosfer !!!
Пацаны вообще ребята молодцы !!!
Dude needs a boot sponsor
scott hesse - not only places himself at risk but also others by not wearing sensible clothing/equipment.
@@mrdobalina3451 Ebarrassing. As someone in the trades for years, I can say wearing a good pair of boots, glasses, gloves and jeans added years to my career. I suppose a lawsuit would change all that for them
Fantastic video! I love the artistic level of that structure! Inspiring!
That would be so much fun!!!
I love this i hope to learn from you guys one day.
Was just putting some coffee on, thinking I would watch the cabin build, and much to my surprise there was a new one 😁
Wow looks fantastic
Потрясающе) удачи вам !
Its good to see Collin finding his place.
Wow!! Amazing!!😍

Awesome wood working.
this is what the younger generations should be focussing on. not social media.
I am 22 and i only want this, but here in Germany there is not much left.. Almost every company is using machines...
I need one of those large pull saws! I'll have to try to make one from an old Cross cut saw. Thanks for sharing this video.
Beautiful build 😍🙏 Happy New All 🥳

you only live for so long m8 Good Luck!
I had the privilege of taking a similar cruck building class in 2013 at RockyMountainWorkshops.com with Peter Haney, Jack Sobon, and Neil Godden. This one looks every bit as good as that one. When can we expect to see the full documentary? Can't wait. Thanks a million.
J'adore.
Très belle création.
Love seeing a little piece of Tacoma in this video (Rainiers hat). Great work, great edit!
Awesome and amazing
We know Jesus was a carpenter also but more than a carpenter. A craftsman Genesis 1:1 the same word for creator! What a creation you guys have built. Brilliant
Cool to see finnish pattern axes in use, they're really good all-round tools!
Wonderful axes
Very nice!!
Muito Show, Parabéns, continue assim.
Happy New Year!
Very interested in learning how they make those beams nice and square with hand tools!
Yes, very nice!!!
На одном дыхании просмотрел. Очень крутые плотники👍
Как жаль что у нас в Сибири вообще подобных проектов нет. Рад за вас отличная работа.
Wish my carpentry class was more like this
i woud love to be in a work shop like that
I’m first building a couple of those sturdy saw 🐎es!
Maybe they’re not the best woodworkers in the world, but I’m pretty sure that they learned a lot and they’ve applied those techniques. It’s refreshing to see that people really wants to learn an ancient job like the woodworkers job!
Amazing class. They made up for any lack of experience with spirit and determination.
Magnifique !
good job!
Thank you .
Really cool man
Wonderful...
Very nice.
