#Skateboarding #Podcast #Interview Clb
Stacy did something right because all his dudes he brought up are still all powerhouses; Hawk ,Cab, TG, Lance, Rodney... they all are legends still skating
i love lance. he is a true skater to the core, you can see its in his soul. such an amazing down to earth honest and genuine guy.
This man is the heart, spine and soul of skateboarding.
True words.
Lance is such a humble guy. I like how honest and real he is about not being able to take on huge roles.
I've said this before.. dude, Roger, how sick is it to sit next to Lance Mountain?!
Lance is the full package , could really skate (even though he doesn't think he could) and he had personality which helped sell him self to the public, Lance was great ,very underated
I remember at the time when world was coming through and Powell was on the downhill spiral...Lance always remained cool. When the Firm started it was dope. Gotta love Lance.
I think one of the overlooked causes of skating dying then, was a generation of middle school kids going to high school and quitting skating for no reason other than growing older and doing older kid stuff.
@Gralin James Pritchard so true
1991 was when skate turned into a more trashy mode for some years, but I really liked the World Industries Vallely-boards, great pop. Powell Peralta was pure happy skating, intellectuality, high end creativity and true grace 👌🏻
Lance Mountain is pretty much every skater's cool Dad...
nah he skates better xP
Hearing lance talk about his faith is fucking rad
Meh.
The Firm toured my hometown Austin around '97. Lance was street skating a parking lot. I said "what's up Lance" and he said hey. I'm pretty sure he is the ONLY professional skater I actually "talked" to.
I love Lance. I met him at Capitola when Tommy turned pro. He drew the square skull on my blank deck that was so awesome.
man need to get George Powell on the show.....
Yeah, that’d be super interesting. Maybe we can get my dentist on the show too.
@@GimmeSumRoy George powell might not be as interesting but stacy peralta would be amazing.
@@GimmeSumRoy george Powell did more for skating than 75% of the people on this show including the interviewers.
And Vanilla ice
Great stories!!! Lance Rules!!! One of my favorite Sk8ers!!!
Lance he is a very nice and humble human being and a awesomme living legend
Lance rules.
Lance Mountain, wow, totally real dude.
Danny Way going from a bit part in Public Domain to a sick pro video part for H-street.
Surprised Powell Peralta let that one get away.
Where does this pick up in the full episode? Lance is OG cool AF
I own bones brigade reissues and my most valued boards that I owned as originals in the 80's and 90's were Mike Mcgill and Lance Mountains. Those were the best shape by a mile and they were both characters to go along with it. More than Hawk and Cab by a mile.
Cab has always been a phenomenal skater though. Seems like a sound dude too.
Lance got it right, graphics mean nothing, it's all about how you present your product!
The early firm.... With the Gruber brothers... So good.....
People don't realize how good Keith and Joe Gruber really were......they were both dope.
I just spent 200 on eBay for a Future Primitive deck because of this interview.
Got the original vhs movie in mint condition. Wanna buy that?
If lance ended up as the editor of big brother it would still be around today
One of my favorite ever SR lance mountain
I love the Jonah dream analogy.
I became adicted you this chanel. Skateboarding is in my blood. This is the first time that you get to really know your legends. Amazing job all the interviewrs and production of this chanel. congrats. You should asK STACY PERALTA to visit the show.... I bet he doesnt come.
Lance mountain is the greatest skateboarder to ever walk this earth
That was a good one.
Lance número uno
I've always wished Lance gave himself more credit. He's LANCE MOUNTAIN. I was talking about him when I was 4 for fucks sake. He's a living skateboard.
Omg I forgot about Veraflex... This 2 year old vid happened to remind me lol
There was also the bonite boards and the first seven ply after was really crap.I honestly believe the main issue was the boards lack of concave and shapes.
Some sad but true in there. I started skating in 85 and while Lance's name was huge in the industry those days, street skating was dominating, and unless you lived somewhere that had halfpipes, you weren't into vert skaters. Vids of competitions we had access to barely featured Lance. Cab, Hawk, Hosoi and a few others were the talked about vert guys. It's sad, his name carried weight but he was more a name than a skater to those not close to that scene.
It's also kind of hard to reconcile that most of the people I grew up watching are heavily religious. As I got older and wiser, the less religious I was until I saw it for the hoax it is. People like Lance, Cab, Hosoi, Barbee and more have really grabbed onto religion. I just can't relate to them on that level anymore. Still awesome guys, who influenced so much of my life. I'll always identify as a skater even though I can barely ride these days.
No hate, just some reflection.
Yeah I grew up in rural Virginia and there were zero ramps in 1986, not around there.
I grew up in Kailua-Kona HAWAII
in the 80s the SPOT was literally 6 concrete highway guardrail posts stacked and a tiny launch ramp. 😭😩
I think a lot of people who have the fame then suddenly lose it go one of 2 ways - drugs and oblivion, or into the religious/enlightenment path. However, my days of lending credibility to what a skater says because they can do a 540 are long gone. Future Primitive was on repeat at my house every weekend in 1986/7 so I am not hating, either.
Except Lance and Ray have always been Christians as far as i know
After seeing the likes of Steve Olson, Duane Peters, Jay Adams, etc. I see why some of these guys ran too religion.
Lance just cruising the sidewalks was as influential to some as all the other stuff in the first Powell video.
Hey Lance re: 6:08 ---- Don't knock the busking. Although compared to what Rodney did later...
They made George, millions. No one should've been struggling.
he is cool to virtually interact with
Didn’t know he was so religious!
Loads of the old times have gone religious...
Ray Barbee too
Shane Dpain and caballero
Praise the lord and pass the ammunition
Becoming aware of one's mortality as you get older kind of does that to some people.
Slayer, Metallica and Megadeth and a stack of other old 80s so called "satanic" Heavy Metal bands are also Christians now...or maybe were then but pushed it aside at the time? Alotta people probably are believers but keep their beliefs to themselves because they'll get judged and labelled by everyone just cause they're out having fun and not "living" the so called humble meek stereotypical Christian lifestyle.
I used to love Lance Mountain graphics!
Lance Mountain. Number one
Tom Penny three hour episode please!
Well, that would cover about one sentence with the way that he speaks.
Lucero and/or Kid Adams would be great on the show.
He was my less favorite of the bones brigade...after McGill...but now is one of my favorites.
lance is pretty cool
Streetg sk8ing was recognized, and promoted,as a way to make more money, and everybody can street sk8,big wigs like stacey, george, other's,just were able to tap a new and fresh mkt.and as soon as he made the blueprint,Rocco with world tweaked the process of giving sk8ters a small co.connected to world ind.and so on
Bring back Firm Skateboards!
Goat 🐐
Can someone please buy a mountain and name it Lance Mountain?
There are two in the US: one north of Woodruff Scout Camp in north Georgia and another in Avery Creek, North Carolina.
Mountains are usually not for sale nore do they get new names by buyers, also there already is a Lance Mountain in Georgia, USA.
I just bought the Sun and call it my Sun
Get Stacey on!
ok so how did the firm start?
Best pool skater of all time
Agreed! Future Primitive pool part with Cab and McGill, Lance Mountain went off in that part.
Stacy's system was the best and the right way to do things. It's a shame how things came to pass.
🙏
I didn’t know Lance was religious. Very interesting.
In all the Powell videos that I saw when I was young, Lance was always the "clown'" of the brigade and never really showcased his talents. It was only much later that I saw him in contests where he showed what a great skater he was (is).
27:00 he couldnt get into business with Tony as a distributor because he “didn’t think the same as him” ??? I don’t understand this at all and I wish they would have followed up on this answer, like what was the issue with Tony? He maybe wasn’t the Bible thumper that lance was, but he was pretty squeaky clean, and he had no issues being tight with Tony when they were on Powell together, but he couldn’t let him distribute his new fledgling company?? This doesn’t make any sense to me at all.
Lance sells himself short all the time. It's a shame he does that.
He's almost too humble...
He’s a beautiful Christian man
what?
When talking about not being thrilled with the street skating scene, Lance says “I just wanted to be in the Dog Bowl with Alva!” As a vert skater myself, starting in 1976, that was exactly how I was feeling back then. Still Thrilled with vert skating, not at all interested in street.
Yo dawg get horizontal
Each to his own, that's the beauty of it
Lance Mountain is Skateboarding.
Idk what hes talking about for like the first 5 minutes
Love Lance but speed it up mate
Rad
I was always a Lance and Cab. fan over Tony Hawk and the other BB members.
It took him half an hour to explain something that really takes five minutes
Oh boy, I never knew he was religious.
Making $20,000/month but wasn't earning enough to save...? Not shitting on Lance, but c'mon! Either way, I love the story, Lance is great
maybe he thought Jesus was going to pay the bills?..
Lance. Way too represent…. Why do you make being a Christian cool?? Time for a change in my life …. Pray for me …. 🙏🏼🤙🏽
411
I never trusted Stacey, He wasn’t Punk ? Lol
I love lance so much but the Christianity stuff is just too crazy for me.
I'm so glad Lance Mountain never got a job
Mike v is a lame
The proselytizing is heavy with this one.
Bless you
lance always cries. He's such a nutcase. He shouldve gone to world. He wouldve been set for life.
Did you actually pay attention to what he said at all? He sort of said that he didnt want to join World Industries because of certain practices that clashed with his faith (drugs, lying, sending prostitutes to minors, hedonism, in other interviews he mentioned WI board graphics that mocked Jesus his image and name, etc)
@@versnellingspookie In Tony Hawk's auto-biography, he mentions how seedy some parts of skate culture seemed to get in the 90's (skate videos showing kids running from cops was one thing he singled out), which he wasn't thrilled about.
@@versnellingspookie Its 2022 and how arent we looking at jesus freaks like Lance as complete psychos? Talking about some imaginary person and everything good is because of him and everything bad is like some sort of test to see if you have faith. OH! Or its the DEVIL! Pretty much anything that can point to "hey maybe there is no god since this bad crap happened to you" instead its just "a test!"
I think Rocco was evil, but Lance talking about "the Lord" makes me feel cringey too.
mental illness is real my man
@@1977pogo God is real, you just havent met him yet
@@versnellingspookie haven’t met Santa either...
Relax. Who are you to judge anyone else?
Kind of a Judas Sellout move.
