@@DavidTipton101 In all honesty David I cant ever see myself being brave enough to break a radio down as far as you did to perform that level of work. If I did I doubt it would go back together as well as this did. Thanks again for another great video and a great end result.
38:38 O.K. I admit it, you got me! That actually happened to me once when I was working on a 1940's RCA 5-Band radio. Turns out that, without realizing it, I had tuned in to "The Old Disc Jockey" program on CKUA 580 AM in our city. Gave me a bit of a shock when I turned the radio on and Glenn Miller came out of the speaker! That RCA was a pretty powerful radio. I remember picking up the Queen's Christmas broadcast on Shortwave-on the Australian International Service! In the basement with no external antenna. Great job on "Mademoiselle". I look forward to the next one (but enjoy your break first).
Haha... that would be funny picking up Glenn Miller from the grave. I've had a few people saying they can pick up Aussie shortwave from the US. Thanks, I need to catch up on some things around the house and maybe we can take a short trip somewhere although we are not allowed out of Queensland at the moment 😀
@@DavidTipton101 It's even better than that. I live in Canada, so I was picking up the Australian Shortwave Service on the 53rd parallel! That's a very long way from Australia. The thing that blew my mind was the fact that I was only using the loop antenna inside the radio. I never even set up an outdoor antenna. The radio is huge for a table radio (56 cm X 32 cm X 28 cm) but it's powerful. Enjoy your time off. I'm looking forward to the next upload after your break.
Nonsense, she looks bloody marvelous, and I am not at all surprised! Huge congratulations on your meticulous attention to detail. I stand in awe of your quality of work, and to some extent, am stunned in to not trying any improvements around my place. Nothing will equal your style. And another 15 out of 10,for dry humour at France's expense :-) You have earned the right to take a week off!
Hi Dave, sorry you have been stunned into not attempting any home improvements, I'll have to remember that one 😂 We have been to France a number of times and hope to return one day, I hope they haven't put out an APB on me. Thanks Dave 👍😄
Ah, David, you've made my day. I'm always happy to see one of your videos in my feed. Good work on the metal lathe! The cabinet looks marvelous! The radio sounds great and your sense of humor is awesome! Kudos once again! Best regards until next time...
That is one gorgeous radio, i am highly impressed, oh wow, you are quite the craftsman, that’s for sure, I can really appreciate your quality of work, that radio looks and sounds like it just came back in time from the 1950’s but better.👍 I really like watching your restoration videos, there are not too many people around that do work like you do. I’m from the United States, and I have some old tube radios around here, I have a 1939 spartan and a 1939 Hewlett-Packard, and a 1960 Dynaco FM1 receiver, and a 1964 Dynaco FM3 receiver. Well that’s all for now, I’m looking forward to your next project, and thank you for sharing.
I loved it David. All the comments below say it all, you must be one of the best on RUclips I only wish they did a nominations for the best creators, Im sure you'd win it every time you'd certainly get my vote. Thanks David.
Oh man, I love your sense of humour! It certainly creases me up. Ha ha ha! I think I know what you were saying when you said it did not look any different. The work you have done to it is brilliant - no one can take that from you. I know that ‘beauty’ is in the eye of the beholder but I wouldn’t regard the cabinet design of that radio as being ‘elegant’. Though it works fine as a radio, the only way I’d be attracted to that radio would be for its quirkiness in general. Yes, I know, ‘beauty’ is subjective. For sure, this has been an excellent Vintage Radio reconditioning series. Best regards, Phil.
Thanks Phil. I try and imagine it in a French home of the 50s but can't. The radio itself is very good I can't understand why they went for such a complicated and expensive cabinet. Anyway it has a second lease on life now. With that out of the way I can catch up on part two etc of your Ekco AD75. Cheers Phil 👍😀
As charming as a French Old Bessy 😆 You did it again, David. Wonderfull job. And the finale was such a nice touch. Thanks for the entertainment and the smile "on me face" Cheers, Nard
That was fantastic work on that radio! I especially enjoyed the cabinet restoration. This is some very high-quality content that's usually hard to find. This channel has a way fewer subscribers than it deserves.
Thank you for giving me such a good laugh at the end. Well, as you suggested, I was right when I said it would look like nothing else. Thank goodness for that. It looks like they just threw it together from all the left over bits they had in the factory. Fabulous work though, and totally French. Cheers.
That was a great conclusion to a great build. I think it definitely looks better than the original colour scheme and that wood finish looks brilliant. That French/Normal switch at the end was fantastic, made me want to come back to Australia hearing those songs again.
David, you make restringing that dial look easy. I know from experience it is not. Your workmanship is second to none. Your a credit to the Continent and Country of Australia. Wishing you continued good health from Canada.
I haven't been watching 😕 your shows in awhile, but I'm back to doing it. I have to watch ⌚️ videos one and two. You've got another great radio on the bench. Your friend, Jeff.
A marvellous restoration David full marks Mate I showed your video to my Brother who is Woodworker he was impressed with Skills as am I and your Workshop and Machine Skill also,Many years ago I had a Mid 1930s consol Radio to restore I gave the Cabinet’s to my late father to restore by the way he a trained as Radio Mechanic in the early 30s I restored the chassis with input from my Dad the whole Restoration turned excellently I wish he still alive to admire your brilliance’s and skills all the very best David.

This radio was very unusual and love it or hate it when I saw it I had to have it, it holds a special place for me now. Your English is excellent and much better than my French. Thank you Again Sylvain 🙂
David! Another one of your incredible restorations! Great job. While there are one or two things I would like to have seen done differently (being human, we all have ideas of what we think "best") you did an absolutely fabulous job of it. Great work. You creativity is astounding. And that "French / Normal" button....PRICELESS!!! Eager to see your next project.
Hi Wayne, thank you. I would have changed a few things too but I tried to restore it to how it looked originally using clues from the radio. I may redo some bits to look a bit better at some point 😀
The original design of gabinet is not magnific, but with your full restoration with many and many hours of work the results are wonderfull. I am glad to follow your channel, each chapter is an adventure and I learn a lot others tecnics. Congratulations - Sao Paulo - Brazil
I've only recently discovered your channel and I'm loving it! The amount of time and effort oyu put into these restorations is inspiring. Way beyond what the radios will ever be worth! I doubt that in 70 years time there'll be a channel of someone like you restoring iPads and iPhones!

@@DavidTipton101 In all honesty David I cant ever see myself being brave enough to break a radio down as far as you did to perform that level of work. If I did I doubt it would go back together as well as this did. Thanks again for another great video and a great end result.
I'm NOT a hardware guy, so I'm always impressed with your handy work, and the length you go with your repairs!
The *IF* is *468KHz*
Thank you pi-duino. You know the IF is 468? How? Do you have drawings?
@@DavidTipton101 - Sorry no. I must have been viewing another rebuild, so I may be wrong.
Great work David looks fantastic now its finished :)
Thanks James 😀
@@michaelcherry8952 Yep, that is impressive. Thanks Michael.
Dave, it's beautiful and you have preserved a piece of history...C’est si bon!
Merci James 😀
What a lot of work, but what a great result. You really put your heart into it. Fantastic.
Thanks De Mus, yes a lot of work in that project 🙂
You’re a true wizard, pure magic! You never fail to impress me 😍👍🏻
Hi Peter, thank you 👍😀
Ah, David, you've made my day. I'm always happy to see one of your videos in my feed. Good work on the metal lathe! The cabinet looks marvelous! The radio sounds great and your sense of humor is awesome! Kudos once again! Best regards until next time...
Thank you David, very happy you enjoyed it 😀
That is one gorgeous radio, i am highly impressed, oh wow, you are quite the craftsman, that’s for sure, I can really appreciate your quality of work, that radio looks and sounds like it just came back in time from the 1950’s but better.👍 I really like watching your restoration videos, there are not too many people around that do work like you do.
Hi Tommy, thanks you for your comment. The Spartan is a beautiful radio but I didn't know HP made radios, thanks Tommy 😀
I loved it David. All the comments below say it all, you must be one of the best on RUclips I only wish they did a nominations for the best creators, Im sure you'd win it every time you'd certainly get my vote. Thanks David.
Thanks Graham, I wonder if there is a best RUclips award? Red carpet, Camera lights flashing 😉🙂
Wonderful result and I learned a bit about applying veneer. I learn something new from every one of your restos.
Thanks Ian 😀
Looks excellent loads of hard work and patience has gone into this restoration love your videos.
Thank you Rajvinder 👍🙂
As charming as a French Old Bessy 😆
You did it again, David. Wonderfull job. And the finale was such a nice touch.
Thanks for the entertainment and the smile "on me face"
Cheers, Nard
Thanks Nard and you are welcome 😄
Greetings from Ireland. Another great triumph with masterful craftsmanship along with great production values, - well done.
Thank you Warren 😀
That was fantastic work on that radio! I especially enjoyed the cabinet restoration. This is some very high-quality content that's usually hard to find. This channel has a way fewer subscribers than it deserves.
Thanks Vincent, glad you enjoyed it 👍😃
Thank you for giving me such a good laugh at the end. Well, as you suggested, I was right when I said it would look like nothing else. Thank goodness for that. It looks like they just threw it together from all the left over bits they had in the factory. Fabulous work though, and totally French. Cheers.
Thanks Pauline, glad you enjoyed it. You were right, it looks like nothing else 😄
Well done, and the ending was brilliant.
Thanks Bob 😄
Hi David, all the respect from Holland. You really surpassed yourself on this one. What a beautiful restoration job, especially the cabinet.
Hi K W in beautiful Holland, thank you 😀
Nice work David, I liked the big revile at the end, lol,, well that came up a treat, nice job, thats a thumbs up from me 👍
Thanks Melissa 👍👍👍😄
That was a great conclusion to a great build. I think it definitely looks better than the original colour scheme and that wood finish looks brilliant. That French/Normal switch at the end was fantastic, made me want to come back to Australia hearing those songs again.
Thanks Trogdor, come back anytime. As you would know that was typical of the programming on Aussie radio 👍😄
David, you make restringing that dial look easy. I know from experience it is not. Your workmanship is second to none. Your a credit to the Continent and Country of Australia. Wishing you continued good health from Canada.
Hi Mary, it was a very easy one but they can be a nightmare, lots of masking tape helps 😄 Thank you and be safe in now sunny Canada 👍🙂
well done, nice to see all the skills applied. beatiful result
Thank you rondo122 😀
I haven't been watching 😕 your shows in awhile, but I'm back to doing it. I have to watch ⌚️ videos one and two. You've got another great radio on the bench. Your friend, Jeff.
Thanks Jeff 👍🙂
Amazing as ever I love it
Thanks Andy 😀
there's a charm about assembling a consumer electronic device with hammer and nails
Haha... good point osgeld 😄
A marvellous restoration David full marks Mate I showed your video to my Brother who is Woodworker he was impressed with Skills as am I and your Workshop and Machine Skill also,Many years ago I had a Mid 1930s consol Radio to restore I gave the Cabinet’s to my late father to restore by the way he a trained as Radio Mechanic in the early 30s I restored the chassis with input from my Dad the whole Restoration turned excellently
I wish he still alive to admire your brilliance’s and skills all the very best David.
Thanks eddyaudio. It would be nice if you still have the radio you restored with your Dad 👍🙂
David unfortunately the owner moved away and read recently he has passed away I should taken some photos but I didn’t so I guess the radio is now lost,I am hopeful some person will buy as I restorations was Wonderful for that time any way it over 30 plus years ago hears hoping David.
These few words to thank you from the bottom of my heart for the pleasure you give us and to congratulate you on your patience and perseverance, your love of a job well done and your attention to details !
Everything is qualitative in your videos, from your technical knowledge to woodworking ... even humor exudes intelligence :)
I'm French and so this series has a little something special for me....Thanks again and please excuse my poor english.
Sylvain.
Hi Sylvain, thank you, you are very kind to say so. It is my pleasure to restore old radios and present them in videos, the fact that people enjoy them is a bonus and frankly quite unexpected. This radio was very unusual and love it or hate it when I saw it I had to have it, it holds a special place for me now. Your English is excellent and much better than my French. Thank you Again Sylvain 🙂
Great work, great video , a weeks rest is well deserved .
Thanks Neraxis 😀
Hi Fernando in Sao Paulo. It's encouraging that you learn from what I do, thank you 😀
I've only recently discovered your channel and I'm loving it! The amount of time and effort oyu put into these restorations is inspiring. Way beyond what the radios will ever be worth! I doubt that in 70 years time there'll be a channel of someone like you restoring iPads and iPhones!
Thank you SpiderElectron and welcome. You are absolutely correct, I put too much effort into these radios for what they are worth but I enjoy doing it and that's what counts. Mmm... 'Dave's cell phone adventures' 😄
What a huge improvement. You did it again. Congratulations and thank you for these three videos. Greetings from The Netherlands.
It's a love or hate it radio, I like it because it's quirky but that's about it. Thanks Jan in the Netherlands 🙂
That really is amazing and one of your best to date, excellent wok as ever, all the best.
Thank you Red Shutter Photography 🙂
