    After a long travel day with two layovers and being up for over 24 hours, we finally arrive in Athens around noon. We took the metro to Syntagma Square, found our Airbnb, and took a breather before going out to explore the city.
    We were hungry from our big travel day so we stopped at two spots - Stani and The Greco's Project. Even just walking around for a few hours to get food, we saw a lot of old sites. It made us even more excited for what's to come!

    Wonderful everything. Athens is so incredible. I truly love it.
    Regarding the little idea about the plumbing. In fact, when cities in Europe and beyond started to grow fast in terms of population, everywhere plumbing ofcourse had to be created. And the thing with Greece is that Greece is immensely mountainous and many stone types everywhere. To cut through stone and marble and so on is so much more work than like here in the Netherlands where we have clay soil. So this is the reason why plumbing pipes in the Netherlands is simply bigger and those of some cities in Greece smaller due to the complexity of getting the plumbing in place. But also this will be a thing of the past as ofcourse plumbing is being replaced by bigger pipes over time.

      Thank you for explaining that!! We heard a few other European cities are the same way. Love those Greek mountains!

    The church you've been on 05:40 it's not ruins as you call it. Ruins are ruins. This one isn't and it's still work. For our standards, a thousands years old church isn't old because there are buildings or ruins in Greece that are 2000-5000 years old. We mostly call something ancient that is over 2000 years old(B.C.).
    Also an original Greek yogurt is made by ship milk. What you have In America isn't a Greek yogurt but a variety of a Greek Yogurt from cow milk which is called in Greece Straggisto(Drained Yogurt)

    • @MattandRachelTravel
      @MattandRachelTravel  2 года назад +3

      Thanks for the insight! Greece was definitely a change of perspective! For us in the United States, anything that is over a few hundred years old is considered old. But in Greece, finding man-made structures that date back to thousands of years ago is very common. Ruin, was definitely the wrong word choice since it’s still very much in operation! It was the first older structure we came across, and we had nothing to compare it to. For lack of a better word we called it ruins.
      As for the yogurt you’ll see cow was on the menu, but I mention we ordered sheep. Thanks again for sharing!

    For the part when you say "nothing in America is that old" I think that in America there are sites that old like some national parks in Colorado, Ohio, Illinois etc that feature ancient ruins of the Native Americans and the large pyramids of the Maya or Inca civilizations that are located in Latin America

    • @MattandRachelTravel
      @MattandRachelTravel  2 года назад +1

      Our apologies! When we said “nothing is that old” we meant in comparison to where we live in the United States. Man-made structures that are over a few hundred years old are hard to come by. Although, there is a cool serpent mound in Ohio we want to check out that dates back to 800 B.C.
