Hey Chaps! Looking at current pricing:
    👉 Surface Pro X 256GB LTE w/ Keyboard + Pen - $1517
    👉 iPad Pro 12.9" 256GB LTE w/ Keyboard + Pen: $1627
So Surface is actually cheaper than equivalent iPad - sorry for any confusion in my video! Much love x

@@Coatsey007 a good breakdown. For me any Surface Pro running a Desktop OS means I don't need to own an iPad plus Laptop. Whereas few only own an iPad. As good as they are there's a fundamental reason why a touchpad and windowed apps remain a killer combination for many.
Wright aside I'd disagree an iPad is a lot more portable than a Surface Pro. They seem about equal.
For me a Surface Pro, or Pixel Slate, will always trump an iPad or Android tablet as they have a full desktop Web browser. There isn't an app that's more important than this.
And it'll only get more crucial as Web Apps get more powerful.

Hi. Great video. I got the Pro X 16 GB a week ago and I love it. Yes, it might not be a device for everyone, but for work stuff its great. One of the main reasons I decided to get the Pro x was the LTE antenna/combability. My daily work routine, well new daily routine-working from home because of the COVID 19, is mostly using Office programs such as word, power point and outlook for emails. I think its a great device for that kind of productivity and if your job required for you to be on the move. Good surface for a project manager and even a cybersecurity auditor. Cool, take care.

Bought it when it first came out. Works perfect for my use. I’m able to do my class work on the go and I don’t have to bring my beast of Gaming laptop (MSI GT 75 with I9 Rtx 2080). The main benefit is the capability to use the internet on the go but main con is that the ARM software. Personally though if your not afraid of being a testing subject for the new Windows ARM system I say go ahead and buy it so we can make ARM more widely used, I truly believe this will be the future but if you want something with more support with full windows 10 experience go buy the surface 7.

Purchased an SPX (SQ1, 8 ram, 128 ssd) for only $623US and absolutely love it!
    1. Battery life is 50% longer than my SP7 (i7, 16 ram, 256 ssd). I get over 10 hours
of continuous RUclips viewing (40% brightness, Battery saver off / BlueTooth off, Wifi on).
This is on par with my 15-inch 360x HP Spectre and its battery is twice as large.
    2. The screen is bigger and brighter. I can read/watch video in a dark room with 0% brightness.
Larger screen is also great for reading/annotating PDFs.
    3. It is thinner/easier to hold, so it's much better for notetaking or watching videos on your lap
    than the SP7.
    4. Runs all my must-have work apps including Office 2019, statistical software, Zoom, Nebo,
Snapdrop, ReadAloud, and PDF apps. The only "nice to have" apps I can't run so far are
BatteryBar and Throttlestop (which has a 32-bit version)
    5. SQ2 chipset is same as Intel 8th gen i5 processes
    6. Charges much faster than my SP7
    7. Has a Sim Card slot
8 Keyboard is very cheap on Amazon
    9. SP7 pen works on SPX
    Negatives are:
    1. No USB-A (dongle life)
    2. No microSD slot
    3. MS's 64-bit emulator greatly reduces battery life (which is why I haven't downloaded yet)
Finally, I don't edit videos, edit photos, or play games. The SPX was not designed for these hobbies, it was designed for white-collar professionals and traveling business folks.

Fantastic video, subscribed! I am using one of these over my iPad Pro for the following reasons. I am a musician first and foremost and need a device which has at least a 12.9 - 13 inch screen that works in tablet form for reading/editing scores/practise/concerts. This means that the regular Surface Pro is a bit too small. I also like to have a device that can run a full browser and work properly with a mouse, multi-task in a desktop like manner for the rest of my admin and creative work when on the go. Run full office etc. An iPad can do this to a reasonable degree now but I still get too frustrated with certain aspects. I would tend to still carry a laptop around with me when needing to do specific tasks, now I don't have to. On a small note I also prefer the pen to Apple's pencil. Finally it is also of course a beautiful device for consuming media, like your videos! I enjoy watching RUclips far more on it due to no restrictions on resolution like Apple has. Netflix etc, all looks amazing. The built in stand is brilliant where'as I have of course to have some kind of case attached to the iPad to be able to prop it up. Overall, this is expensive but the combination of factors finally mean I can carry just one device around. So it suits someone doing my work perfectly. I very much appreciate though that the majority of people will find its' limitations restricting. iPad making its' way to eBay :-)

    • @andyH_England
      @andyH_England 4 года назад +1

Yes, agree, this will find a place in a niche market where you are OK with limited access to apps. I thought more of a secondary device, but it seems suited to your user needs. For me, it still disappoints, the battery life is the main selling point of this and my Qualcomm Yoga from 2018 has twice the battery life of the Surface Pro X running WOA. That cost only £500 and I did not have to buy a keyboard, and the pen was free!!! That saved me £800 which I could buy an iPad Pro with. You see my point? You are paying a lot for the MS logo and "cool" design.

    • @tomcollingwood5300
      @tomcollingwood5300 4 года назад

@@andyH_England Yes I see your point. My problem with that device would be the resolution (I understand it is 1920x1080), for reading scores with very small details and markings I need something fairly high. Also I don't like holding something with a keyboard folded behind my fingers in tablet mode, much better to have something that detaches. I am fairly niche though. Having one device to cover all is really worth it for me carrying round a heavy instrument alongside etc. One does pay plenty for the logo......design worth it though, but hard to justify perhaps in most cases.....

That's the point with Microsoft's Windows, you are not bound to the store like on Apple product. You have a choice to choose where you're gonna purchase the apps. In other words, you have competition while Apple has a monopoly and can put whatever price and fees it wants. Also, you can upgrade and repair your device, Apple on the other hand only offers motherboard replacement with all the components, which is in most cases twice the price of an actual device.

One thing though; ARM processors aren't inherently slower than x86 or other CISC processors, in fact with the modern ARM chips they are A LOT faster than x86 processors. The problem in Windows for ARM is emulation, emulation is super taxing on resources and thus your experience is that of a slower chips on emulated programs; but if people develop ARM versions of their x86 counterparts it wouldn't surprise me if they performed better.

Surface pro x sq1 is very suitable for web search , working with office , reading , online social activities and medium volume applications. Because windows is better pilot for apps to iOS, so surface for regular and medium works is better

I expect mine to arrive tomorrow (or the day after) and honestly? I don't consider the other options to be valid alternatives for me. I don't want anything from Apple because my main environment is Windows based (my desktop runs Win10 Pro and my servers run FreeBSD & OpenBSD with full Windows compatibility (powered by Samba & Mono)). I prefer the X because it's very lightweight, has a good battery life and the "embedded" pencil is plain out brilliant for office work, especially while on the road. What's also important is not to underestimate all the things which you can already do using only Windows 10 on its own.
So for tasks like data analysis, document / report writing, presentations, maintaining schedules & todos, video conferencing while also staying connected (= online) I don't think other devices will perform much better. Not to mention that not being able to dump tons of non-work related software onto this can also be considered a huge pro ;)
All in all I think this gizmo will be ideal for me.

Why do all reviewers seem to judge devices by photo or video editing workloads?
It's like they live in this weird creator bubble and have no concept that maybe for the people the product is aimed at, all they want to do is be able to use the internet, watch videos, access their emails, photos etc, ms office, take notes, doodle 99.8% of the time.
Basically like a computer but in tablet form, so the one time a year they might want to edit a photo, the extra 5 mins doesn't really matter.
The massive caveat is there seems to be an awfully high premium for what it is. That said it's only about the same as the larger iPad pro, but that has the usual Apple-tax on it.

So my understanding is that you register this essentially as another phone on your plan in order to utilize the LTE. I am not interested in doing that, but I love the feel of this laptop and the wider screen. My question is: can I buy it and simply never register it and only use it on wifi like a normal laptop? I don't understand why the largest screen for the other surfaces are only 12.5 inches...

Just got a surface pro x … this video is great. I haven’t had any hiccups with it yet but I haven’t tried the big boy programs on it. I am mostly using it for music recording kinda on the go… a mobile recording setup if you will. Logic is the program I will be using with the FocusRite DAW… if anyone has any tips or experience with this please let me know. For inquisitive readers , I was gifted this machine … I wasn’t shopping for a new laptop etc and got this on purpose. Thanks a lot!!!

Was waiting on this review. I've been intrigued by this and the Samsung Galaxy book S. Their portability, LTE and battery life really make them worth considering. But I agree that right now app compatibility is a big problem and these are not cheap devices, and not sure they would suffice as my only computer (outside of my phone). Of the three Id go with the SP7 for productivity and to run my small business, but the iPad if it was just for personal use.

Can you hook up the iPad to a docking station and enjoy a full desktop experience on an external monitor and use things like RDP with USB passthrough? No? Then it's not the same use case. This is trying to bridge the gap in professional use, not casual, though it likely can play fruit ninja all the same.

Very nice review! For the sake of fairness, did you fact check that iPad Pro “for a lot less money” thing? Wasn’t the case in continental Europe last time I checked. Maybe it’s a UK thing. Unless you are comparing to the 64GB-only 11 inch iPad without LTE, which you really should not.

  • @torpedospurs

That's the wrong iPad Pro (should've been the 12.9) to compare with, and so it is the wrong price comparison.

Honestly, I just bought an M1 iPad Pro LTE and remotely access my home PC if I’m on the go. I think that’s the solution if you were looking for a high-tech Window’s device while traveling. I’ve had no hiccups and it works perfectly. My full-time job requires me to use DaVinci Resolve, and though iPad OS doesn’t support that, I remotely access my work PC from the iPad and edit wherever I want. Pretty convenient, and way cheaper.

I'm looking for a reliable tablet predominantly used in portrait mode for reading. It seems like this tablet it mainly designed to be laptop/tablet compatible in landscape-mode. Does this tablet have equally compatible portrait-mode accessibility, or does it only work best in landscape-mode?

    • @fallinginthed33p
      @fallinginthed33p 4 года назад

It's like other Surface tablets, it will work fine in portrait mode. The smaller Surface Go is easier to hold in portrait with one hand whereas the much larger Pro 7 and Pro X can be a handful. You can enable tablet mode in Windows to get larger touch UI in some apps or just increase display scaling to 150%.

Why do people complain on the price of a computer when people pay that much on a smartphone ? And How can you compare a PC with an iPad Pro ? and iPad Pro is not a real computer it’s just a oversize ” phone “ with your apps from the store versus a real computer. $1,500 for a Apple tablet with the keyboard and pen !!! Hell no ! The X is way less with the pen and keyboard included if you get the bundle $1,100 (entry level )

You basically try to move from the best and well polished ARM chip to the lower one with poor optimization. If you want Windows buy the Pro 7.
