Today I've listened to Turnstiles album from the beginning to the end for the first time and I was blown away! This is definitely one of the best albums of the 70-ies.
nobody can bring on the great and memorable melodies on mainstream radio these days.so i end up here.goes to show what a colossal and durable talent mr.joel is.

Another thing incredible about this song is the prescient lyrics--- this song was written in '76, just a little more than halfway through the decade Billy says he was in fact commenting on. The indulgent Disco craze had yet to define the "ME" generation, so Billy is really seeing ahead here...coke was prevalent but certainly hadn't EXPLODED yet... Billy has proven himself prophetic more than once..."Miami 2017 (Seen the lights go out on Broadway)" being the most shocking example.
After all the years, all the concerts around the world, the MSG residence and his continuing support of young musicians this is my definitive Billy Joel song "I love these days".... I really do. David, London, England, August 2022!!!

Although Billys voice has held up quite well...., it has to be a bit sad to the Artist , to listen back to the Powerful clear voice of their youth. Joel's voice held up far Better in old age than Elton John's.

This version always reminds me of university days I spent in Nagoya, Japan back in 1980's. I was the drummer of a Billy's cover band.
