its a cool ship, the minor tweaks make a big difference from the nx-2000 - i always thought the secondary hull is the most "nautical" design in the fleet, its the boaty mcboatface of starfleet - and while i personally could put up with some of eaglemoss's typical flaws on its standard models, but for the money for the XL series, they should be flawless -
Impulse engines are Newtonian engines. In order to move the ship, they eject hot plasma out at very high velocity...all over the front of the warp nacelles.
Thanks for the video. Collected quite a few of the Eaglemoss models, especially Federation ships. I wish more were to scale with one another. Sure, some of the later ones would be impossibly large, but even like TOS models scaled to one another, or the films 1-6. Interesting that the XL Enterprise B is roughly to scale of the regular series Enterprise refit. Keep up the great work!
Look, the magazines already covered the ship on the small release. It would be stupid to do that again for the XL version. Instead, they give us great behind the scenes movie info. For those who want the magazine about the ship itself, they are readily available on Ebay, usually around $13.00 free shipping. I have bought separate magazines several times.
As a model builder I study trek ships in detail before I build them and I can tell you this XL Enterprise-B has a lot of things wrong with it, in fact I haven't seen any XL ship so far that are worth the cost. I am holding out hope that the XL Akira class model will be good though!
Cody Knox , yes, I would prefer an Excelsior as well. I always thought it was a bit uninspired to slap a couple of extra engines and a ridge on it and call it Enterprise B. It felt like a cheat. Well, that is because it was a cheat.
Jamie Braswell personally I prefer the Ent-B variant of the Excelsior class. It adds details to areas that I always felt were too simple on the regular Excelsior.
If they make an XL Excelsior, I hope it has better QC. The part that pisses me off about Generations is that with all the threats the Enterprise D faced, in the end it gets taken out by those two Klingon sisters. What a crock.
Yo IrishTrekkie a really good review off the Ship I love the USS Enterprise NCC-1701-B the Excelsior Refit it does look a awesome ship I cannot lie , The best out of the XL's so far is this and the USS Reliant NCC-1864 but Awesome review as always my friend
not as bad as Forgeworld production issues, but I think the price point demands higher quality. I would be fine with those imperfections on a standard size mini, but on this size, they need to spend a bit more attention to quality.
Eaglemoss needs to do better If they want people to part with their hard earned cash, then they need much better quality control. I own a few and each one has some paint issues, but that XL Enterprise B shouldn't have been shipped in that state, it doesn't reflect well on them.
there is no excuse for the quality issues on these models for this price point- they've shown that they can do windows, etc really well on some of the normal size ships (stop doing the molded windows...they clearly can't get this working consistently...)...and, colored plastic should be the norm on all nacelles, impulse drives, etc for ships of this size...
Such a shame. Like I’ve said before, why spend the money on. This ship when you can buy the Diamond Select one for less money, and get a bigger ship that “talks and lights up”. Such a shame.
Very true, I am still pretty content with my Enterprise from Playmates in the 90s and the other ships they made. Playmates and DST make some good ships and the lights really make them a smarter buy overall, if you have the space for them.
From what I've seen based on yours and other reviews, the XL Enterprise-B is one of the best looking of the XL models. However, it still suffers from the same issues that the rest of them do, they're not big enough and not detailed enough for the price. The window alignment is really bad on this one, and like you said in the video, with how close they are to the color of the hull I would've prefer they just not painted the window molds at all. I also think using plastic inserts instead of paint for the impulse engines would look way better too. The details on the saucer are nice, I was pretty unimpressed with the XL Reliant because the phaser turrets on top where flat and was I'm glad they didn't do that again here. Overall the model is decent looking, especially when seeing it next to the smaller one, but I'm still not impressed enough to buy it. Personally, I prefer the Excelsior over the Enterprise-B and if they make an XL of that one hopefully they'll fix some of the issues this one has.
i am normally very happy with these XL models and magazines but this one was a real let down got model set up next to kirks and pacards enterprise XL versions its small and horrible small even con-paired to voyager real shame i just hope enterprise C is done right.
The saucer section on this ship is to small. It should have at least been the same size saucer on the NCC 1701-A. Don't buy this ship the saucer should have been larger for the xl version.
It's missing the turquoise rings on the saucer rim
I never cared for the modifications on the 1701-B.
I wish they had kept it in the standard Excelsior configuration.
XL models just aren't worth the price tag for me. Great review, thank you for the comparison Irishtrekkie.

Eaglemoss you HAVE to do BETTER on the XL models they cost a pretty penny. Maybe we should get together and sign a petition for quality control
I don’t think that’s gonna work anymore:/
Had to laugh at recording this on Tuesday!!!.

So, how did Star Fleet feel about the crash of the Enterprise D?.
How did they grill Picard?.

Valid point
I must admit I do like the Excelsior class!
I like the Excelsior ship a lot, and I may scoop this one up instead of that XL version to add more Enterprises to my collection.
Great review I definitely think the impulse engines should have clear plastic pieces and not be painted especially for the price and that's a shame.

I kinda want to get this, but, if they release an XL version of the USS Excelsior, I’d much rather get that.
How would you compare these to the Diamond Select ships? Seems to be better bang for your buck vs the Eaglemoss smaller ships.
Yes the eagle moss company, Belly Up Deader than a doornail!! So start checking out those Garage Sales!
I'm torn on this one. Part of me wants it, but I think I'd be fine with skipping it and waiting for the XL Excelsior.

Epic ship, such a real shame that despite the considerable increase in price EM still have such quality control issues. Sadly I'll give it a miss.😲😝😲

Forget a defaint or galaxy . Give me that in orbit , and an admiral position. Love that and the original type

Those are too big in my opinion. They take up too much space, and I don't care about lights and sound. I prefer the Eaglemoss offerings.
Why do they always have to mess up on the windows. Sheesh. That would be enough for me to do a return. Nice ship. But, sheesh!
What does Aztec-ing mean?
It’s the paneling effect/pattern applied to models to evoke scale
Wow was about to get a few XL.... Those seam lines are horrible!!! No light or window bright paint!?....

Looks to me like a $40 piece at a $75 price point.
I bought a kit for less that half the price

Mass produced; usual probs, but overall ok. A man on a galloping horse and all that.

She's a beau I'll take fifty of them.
