I prefer the official version, I think that, at least conceptually, Voyager was a very well designed and interesting-looking ship, but of all of the old concepts floating around for her this one is my favorite. Followed by the one that could do saucer separation that was in the old Star Trek Magazine. I think it is interesting, though, that Voyager's movable pylons were supposed to be an answer to the problem of spacial disruption caused by high warp factors, which is the same justification for the long, slim nacelles on First Contact era ships. And the naccels here look a lot like the Sovereign nacelles.
I remember making a model out of this twenty something years ago after seeing the design in Star Trek the magazine, but I added a forward swept rollbar attached to the warp nacelle pylons, with mission specific pods.
Interesting fact: Voyager first concept in this video was actually a kit bash with a Runabout. The back half of it is a heavily modified Runabout. I think Trek Yards interviewed Rick and he told of this.
I love both well, most all of voyagers designs but wouldn't this finished cocept (that I just got a model of) be perfect for Voyager A or B? It would fit so well beside the Titan A❤
I am amazed with the amount of detailing they fit into this model, in such a small size. It's a shame other models don't have this. But, I really love this design, and I'm glad it made it into the collection.
This looks like what it was meant to be, a pre-production prototype. Perhaps a predecessor/testbed hull used to try out the new technologies meant to go into the production Intrepid class. Plus it actually looks like it could be a shuttlecraft carrier.
I wish they would get there scaling sorted so that the ships are sized correctly in regard to each other. Say, all 1/3000 scale. That would make Voyager about 3 inch long, E-E about 6 inches long, Defiant just under 2 inch long etc. Or 1/2500 if the former is too small.
First and foremost, Irish Trekkie thank you for this and the many other reviews you have done. You provide both a preview of the model and often humorous, but always, enlightening commentary. Second, and this is directed at Eaglemoss, when the heck are they going to do the Dominion Battleship?!? They ship to which the entire DS9:Valiant episode was devoted. Eaglemoss has done a tug scene for only a second in one episode and they are doing never shown on camera concept models, but the Dominion Battleship has yet to be addressed? Yes, I know they have done the Dominion Warship, but that is not the Battleship featured in the episode I mentioned above. Sorry, had to vent.
I think this would be a really nice design if the secondary hull was reduced by one deck and the nacelles were spread out just a little more. It looks a little bloated and narrow as it is. Kind of unstable
In some respect this could easily be a base for the USS Dauntless NX-01-A which looks like a modernised version of this concept ship... and that on it's own could pay a very nice tribute of the ship that never made it to the small screen, don't you think? ;)
The side view makes me think of a Stork or something :) Have to say, the abruptness of the transition doesn't work for me, but the less round angles also has something nice. I also like the deep inset there, makes the 'fat' saucer have some more window. Are the saucer's sides also more angling more straight down, rather than being rounded, or do I see that wrongly? (I think the front view looks a bit too droopy).
This was nice but I can see the treason for the change. The more compact size and shape of the saucer and the way the ship is integrated into one " piece" made a lot of sense.
My vote is for the on screen Voyager. The concept looks like a bad kit bash to be honest. As awesome as it is that they produced a concept design. I do love the version we all enjoyed on the series. Did you ever get a Probert concept Enterprise C? I couldn't find a review for it on your channel. Thanks for yet another awesome reivew!
I've know this concept since the show started. I've always prefered this design. It seems the bolder choice. Which is the this about Voyager, it's a show that often played it too safe.
I prefer Voyager because this seems too militaristic for a light explorer/heavy science class ship. But it would be great as a destroyer and it's a fantastic design.
I first saw this way back when, in the book “The Art of Star Trek.” Voyager was still on the air. My first thought was “too bad!” All my fellow treky fans thought the exact same thing. (We all watched it at my house on Geek Night) I always felt the final Voyager looked like only half a ship. Those tiny nacelles just made it look really unbalanced. Even worse then the Enterprise D. I love Rick’s concept And I always felt it fit more into the style that Star Trek had originally started with. Of course this design was used for the inspiration of the Prometheus. Take a look at the Prometheus and tell me I’m wrong?
Irish Trekkie brilliant to have the Voyager concept ship thank you as always would have had the pylons a little more extended "farther out" nacelles a bit shorter and the front view long range sensor array body less "bulgy" in proportion to the width of the saucer section... all in all a grand concept design glad this is complete again thank you for your fantastic programs am learning SO much !!!
Definitely prefer the Voyager that went to air. The stylingone just doesn't seem to fit the TNG era. The drive section and nacelles remind me of a giant runabout and even a bit like battlestar galactica
I'd like to spread the nacelles out further. I find these are too tight to her hull. Also flip them around, they look upside down. I would almost like to buy 3 of these to kit bash. 1 to keep pristine and 2 others to kit bash. Other than that I would have accepted this hull as Voyager.
I always loved nacelles on this ship and i happy with voyager we got though bit disappointed they never went back and put this ship as a CG ship in later episodes of DS9 was a real missed opportunity. Thing not fan of with design this ship as impulse engines be big disadvantage in combat be much more movability at impulse speeds having them closer to the torpedo launchers that just me still a ship can not help but love. model is awsome having magazine has so much cool design information in it.
its a shame Voyager ended we could of got to see the new Voyager but Janeway would not command it she would got promoted to Admiral so the ship would of been Commander Chakotay and he would of become Captain Chief Engineer B Elanna Paris would be his first officer or LT Commander Tuvok Tom Paris LT Commander pilot The Doctor would have a new sick bay and an 2nd EMH Hopefully Harry Kim a LT as well Seven of Nine as an Junior grade officer cant say any thing on Neelix cos he left the series before the Final Episode Aired and Captain Kathryn Jane way would be an Admiral Jane way i doubt she would ever get the chance to fly this wonderful ship this was intended for Season 8 of Voyager but never Happened

It does look like half of a Prometheus class starship!!
Prometheus.
I prefer the canon Voyager - her curves flowing one into another, compact and beautiful.

AJ Universe It would definitely fit in universe either as a operating ship or as a development mule for Voyager and the sovereign classes LOL.
I remember making a model out of this twenty something years ago after seeing the design in Star Trek the magazine, but I added a forward swept rollbar attached to the warp nacelle pylons, with mission specific pods.
The engineering hull with the warp nacelles reminds me of a larger version of a runabout.
Runabout.
@@xkm-thebasetecchannel3823 fixed it.
I always preferred the Voyager Concept to the final. It just always seemed like a much more exciting ship.
Interesting fact: Voyager first concept in this video was actually a kit bash with a Runabout. The back half of it is a heavily modified Runabout. I think Trek Yards interviewed Rick and he told of this.
The classic voyager , has a sleak look plus it looks like it designed for atmospheric flying and landing. And that was the new feature of the voyager
I prefer this one over the Voyager that actually was in the show
Yeah, better then the spoon shaped hand vacuum but the current model do serve its with service landing and the nacelles able to fold for warp speed.
Same. I've always preferred long nacelles.
Agreed, the final Voyager lacks class of any kind, and the nacelles are too small. It just don't look right at all.
I love both well, most all of voyagers designs but wouldn't this finished cocept (that I just got a model of) be perfect for Voyager A or B? It would fit so well beside the Titan A❤

I like the hull design, it looks prepared for quantum slipstrem drive
I like this design, I think this could've worked as a vessel from the Ambassador classes era
Mordalfus Grea nothing from the ambassador classes era had anything like that saucer. The secondary hull and nacelles possibly🧐
If the nacels went up instead of down then this ship would be perfect.
I think this would be a really nice design if the secondary hull was reduced by one deck and the nacelles were spread out just a little more. It looks a little bloated and narrow as it is. Kind of unstable

Are there plans to have a 'Year of Hell' version of the ship?

imagine if the ship was brought into cannon as a Future design being the Voyager class long range explorer
Reminds me if Voyager and Prothemus had a ship baby.
This ship looks good this would be a great refit if there were going to do Voyager again
This would be perfect if the nacelles were up right like the Construction
This one looked like it could actually land on a planet.
Oh and who else thought that the bottom right design from 3:55 looks like an early Dauntless concept?
When are they doing a year of hell Voyager?
Just use a hammer on an ordinary Voyager and stick it back together with staples and tape. Wala!! A diy year of hell Voyager!! LOL!!
Literally one of my favorite ships Eaglemoss has made.
I've know this concept since the show started. I've always prefered this design. It seems the bolder choice. Which is the this about Voyager, it's a show that often played it too safe.
I love this ship so much
The concept Voyager looks more like a military vessel. Like an escort or patrol vessel.
The show Voyager looks more like an exploration vessel.
I actually prefer this design than what we got. Shame it never made an appearance.
i love the models there so cool i will be buying them all
Sleek and aggressive desgin! 😀
I think it should actually BE a ship in a Star Trek series that isn't an STD
I prefer Voyager because this seems too militaristic for a light explorer/heavy science class ship. But it would be great as a destroyer and it's a fantastic design.
I love the official Voyager, but I only wish the nacelles were done differently
Agreed. The official ship had a big head that wasn't balanced with anything in the back especially with those mini nacelles.
0:12 Looks like a tuning fork.
Final Voyager is definitely preferred by me, better lines and flow.
Its not a bad ship. Like a ship yard was sent the interpid class Blueorints right before tge Dominion was but had no time to build tooling

Krill. Basking sharks eat krill (a type of plankton).

I think they rejected it because if they did put this one in they wouldn’t have the Prometheus in the story that would have to be changed.
god i want to subscribe to the eagle moss thing but i'm so put off that it's basically columbia house
I like this model
I know is like heretic to comment that, but I think was rejected cause resembles so much to one...A fighter from Star Wars, maybe?
kind of similar to the Prometheus class
This version looks far less like a toilet seat than the one they chose.
😊
It's a Y wing

This early voger
Thank god they changed the design. It looks like a cross between a runabout and a basking shark. Really awful!
