This was great, thanks, I been tryin to find out about "how do you score a 10 pin in bowling?" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Have you ever come across - Piylivern Remarkable Predominance - (should be on google have a look ) ? It is a good one of a kind product for discovering how to up your bowling game quickly without the hard work. Ive heard some pretty good things about it and my cousin got excellent results with it.
A coach from my first league made me play 20 games in a row (over two sessions) of nothing but 7-pin and 10-pin spare conversions (he rigged the setter so those were the only pins that got set). I hate it, and was bored out of my mind. But the next week, my average went up by something like 15-20 points. Blew my mind, and really made me see just how important it is to get those single pin spares 150% solid!
Thanks! & good job you two! Saw you both on TV in the Playoffs. Yeah Im with you guys too, I have a plastic ball but never use it. Just straight wrist and flatten it out
Wow nice video and a life saving video "7" is the most my grrrrr situation because my hard comfort zone area and i don't know where to position my body when it comes to straight ball direction when it comes to 7th pin
LMAO!!!! Thanks guys, this will come in handy on Tuesday when I take on the Dick Webber pattern with only my reactive ball. I am sure to get plenty of solitary 10 pins and will go far left and throw it as demonstrated. Setting the Jackal loose tonight with your strategy in mind.
First thing is you need to practice at shooting just the single pin 7 & 10 do not try to pick the 7 & 10 out from a full rack. Once you get that down then challenge yourself with trying to just take out the 7 & 10 from a full rack. I’m a lefty and I was terrible at the 7 pin but an old timer told me to look at the pin then shoot at the shadow of the pin on the pin deck. It didn’t take but a few pitches after that and I was locked on to making those corner pins. I can honestly say I’m at 97% accuracy of covering those corner pins. These guys are correct get yourself a plastic ball for spares. I just got a new spare ball “widow spare” it has a weight block but it’s drilled flat with the pin up between the fingers. if I need to hook it slightly at a spare I can still do so.
This is the KISS principle i use to teach my students (Keep Is Straight & Simple) with ETT (Everything Towards Target). I teach my students to use the oil for their benefit and use indeed middle of the lane because that's where the oil is. Makes it so much easier to shoot corner pins. Although for 10 pin sometimes the ball returns can be a hassle. In my home center the ball return is so far up the approach that for a 10 pin i have to shoot it across the thirth arrow instead of 4th, since i have no room to move further left (at least that is for the even lane numbers)
I pick up the 10 pin fairly consistently as a right but struggle a lot with the 7. I've been trying to go straight across the lane but I almost always miss left pretty badly. Think I'm going to try hooking it in. Have to wait though. Messed up my wrist a month ago and took a couple weeks off but wasn't fully healed and ended up making it worse than ever so I've had to bench myself.
For a righty stand as far left as you can. Keep your shoulders as straight as you can and follow all the way through. Start making sure you see your hand level with your eyes. Do thus every shot and your avg will go up.
Maybe you can learn from the best in the world right now a.k.a belmo.. on the approach, the 1st 1-2 steps go straight.. then after you clear the ball return, start walking/drifting left towards the gutter
Seems like a lot these replies missed the point. I appreciate the instruction. I’m in the use the same ball for everything camp but I think working on deadening my hand better will improve my percentages. Thanks.
Little trick that I was taught when I was young stick your ring finger and your pinky finger in your ball and flatten out to get those 10 pins works for me
I now carry my new Black Widow Black and Gold as my go to ball. My Old Burgundy hammer for spares and as a slower rolling back up. My Pyramid path as a 10 pin only ball. Still throw the burgundy at the 7. I'm a righty. Wednesday night I had the berries!!
I find that as far as the 10 pin and 6 pin are concerned, as a righty, I use a plastic ball. I break my wrist back and use a suitcase grip going cross alley since staying behind the ball on those spares results in too much hook.
Like the flat hand/wrist method. Do you guys count boards. 3, 6, 9 for example. I go 9 boards left of strike location for 10 pin. 8 boards right for 7 with old urithain ball for both.
All of your videos are superb! As a lefty I am having problems shooting my 7 pins. Everyone convinced me to go across the lane but I just still struggle with targeting. Can someone tell me how to target the shot. I draw a line between the 13 or 14 board at the arrows down to the pin and am always missing inside. Currently I’ve gone back to throwing it up the 4 or 5 board and only occasionally do I miss into the gutter.
Teaching people to flatten their hand and kill the rotation works much better than using non hooking balls at spares. I don't have room in my bag for a spare ball, as you two don't either, so I just throw it straight at my spares. Only occasionally will I hook at a spare, like the 2-8, 3-9, Bucket, etc. There is much better miss room and carry by hooking into those types of spares. On the other side of things, throwing straight at a 4-10, 6-7, etc will dramatically increase carry, since you take the lane out of play. Learning how to change hand position and rotation is a far better skill than to just throw a spare ball the same as a reactive ball. After all..."we ALL through it straight once upon a time, so it IS possible to do it again!" I believe this quote came from Norm Duke!
Plenty of professional bowlers use spare balls. It's a common thing for many reasons, so stop with the "Just kill your hand and make the ball go straight." Just because Norm Duke can do something doesn't mean everyone can (or wants to). Walter Ray has a spare ball and so does Belmo. Two completely different bowlers, both find room in their bags for a spare ball.
If I'm using an aggressive bowling ball then I'd prefer to use something a little weaker, but I'm bowling with a light-medium oil ball so I throw the ball strait at my spares. Throwing strait also can help you increase your accuracy with hooking.
Started pretty far left on the 7 pin. I pretty much shoot the same wide cross lane as I do for the 10 pin on the 7. Just kill it and up the speed. That shot he takes, you can drift it right a bit and miss the 7, or accidentally step a little left and ditch it. Just go cross lane, and keep the ball to the opposite side of middle arrow from the pin (just left of middle arrow for 10 pin, just right of it for 7 pin) The bigger issue for most bowlers is they drift toward the pin on their approach, and end up missing it. Gotta walk straight for cross alley corner pins.
As far as 10 pin spares go I world argue the point about spring a dead ball. On s normal house pattern with a plastic ball, as long as you release your thumb at 12 o'clock, and your arm is pendulum straight when it releases the ball then it will go straight every time. The way to get accuracy is to slow the ball down. As far as the 7 pin goes however I am happy to try releasing on 20....
I can't seem to adjust my rev rate to throw the ball straighter. the 6, 9, 10 pins are the bane of my existence. Anyway, could you guys try and explain a good practice for flattening out my throw?
Can you maybe do a video talking about the non ball side arm and keeping the thumb down. And possible drills to help work on it??? Thanks for what you do guys.
I like the video but I'm of the Norm Duke mentality in that I don't like to use a different ball for spares. Saves me money and I don't have to carry another ball around. I throw a backup ball and it works just fine.
Other than 4, 7, or 8 (I’m a lefty), I hook all my spares just as I would on a first ball. If I leave a 6-10 my target is the 6 so I just move right about 10 boards and it works for me. But for the others I just throw harder and back it up
They really should make a bowling game out of this. Basically the goal is to only hit the 7 or the 10. It would be great practice also for people that want to get better at spare pickups. Picking up spares is so crucial to your game. I would almost say it's more crucial to fill frames if you can't strike. Strikes are intimidating but if you fill your frames you can still win.

Hopefully we'll see him back on the air soon perhaps even hoisting a trophy in the air.

Backed it up with another no-tap 300 then in the fourth frame of the last game my thumb hung bad and I tugged it way past the headpin leaving the 1-5-8-10 ruining my no-tap 900 and my clean 30. Did leave two 4 pins tonight. One felt like a good shot and the other I knew was high the second it left my hand.
I'm Right handed Bowler...If the 7 pin is the only one standing I always use my Hook Ball and it works every time! It hooks right to the 7 pin. The 10 pin however is where I need to figure out.
I can't throw at an angle across the lane accurately. I move right and hook at left side pins and throw backup ball from the left side for the right side ones.
All I do is take my middle finger out of the ball. Can’t get much revs on it that way. Some big name bowler from back in the day was a proponent of that method.
Brad and Kyle, I sub at a house that is quite old and still has the ball returns above the lane. I have allowed it to get into my head where my spare percentage on single pins has dropped substantially. Outside of kicking the crap out of the ball return what advice can you give?
Obviously not Brad and Kyle, but there's a house in our association with above ground returns and I've bowled in on center where lane one is up against a wall. What I did was adjust my angles to the right as much as possible and when I did need to get next to the return would focus on keeping my balance leg behind. I might cause some issues with my hips not getting turned but generally not that bad especially on a spare shot where I was throwing straight anyway and did have some miss room.
Hello, I have a question and I hope you or someone can help me with, Four years ago I got a bowler thumb and that made me quit bowling completely, truth be told I live in the Netherlands and bowling here is not as common as in the USA. Now, my thumb no longer hurts and I have bowled with my very first bowlingball (9 pounds and with fingertips) and it went really well. So well that I would like to pick up professional bowling again, but the fear of that pain still remains. Do you have any tips for me to prevent that from happening again?
The most important thing will be to find a pro shop that will measure your hand correctly. Having a perfectly fitting ball is important to protect your hand and fingers from injury. You should consider buying a new ball and get your hand measured out again or at least filling the holes of your old bowlingball.
I can’t make a ten pin atm because the only bowling ball I currently have is an idol synergy. I bought 4 bowling balls but unfortunately the guy who drills my equipment got covid and has been recovering for three weeks. Obviously that’s more important so I’m not mad about it but it’s frustrating trying to bowl in league and tournaments with one bowling ball lmao
Cool. My friends made me play ...make the 10 pin. Before we closed the bowling alley. ... we left at midnight. It closed before 10. Yea. It's a big deal. Since that night I barely miss a 10 pin. Now. All because old school training. For you guys. Question. Do you shoot invisible pins ???? Let say you took the 10 pin shot. You made it. You have a 2nd shot. And you shoot at the invisible pin. Just a question. ^_^ my friends are 50 60 67 and more. ........ in aged. And we practice on real wood lanes. California has only 2 left. In the state. What state are you guys in. ?
When I go after the 10 pin I stand on the far left and try to shoot over the middle arrow and usually I get the 10 pin. The 7 pin, I do better when I have my left foot on the center dot and shoot over the center arrow and I usually get the 7 pin.
I'm a bit of the opposite. I am right-handed and the 10 pins are the easiest for me, while the 7s are the most difficult for me. For 10s I stand 8 to 10 boards to the left of the 37th or 38th board and I get the spare every time. 7s however I still want to stand 8 to 10 from the left of the first few boards but the ball return and gutter are so close I just screw it up all the time.
@@bernardbrown5336 i use to miss 8 out of 10 but then i bought a plastic ball because they dont hook now i get 5 or 6 out of 10 so better but still not good enough
I don't put my thumb in the ball and can pick up just about every spare with it. That damn 7 pin gets me so much that it's laughable. You guys are right about needing a spare ball for corner pins. I'm going to get one asap before my season starts. I start being more consistent with that 7 pin and my avg would go up to around 180. It's a house league and the lanes are great but the idiots doing the lanes can't ever get it right for lefties
Plastic ball, hard and straight. Plastic ball is much more crucial for a 2-handed spare game than it is for 1-handers, the nature of a 2-handed release makes it pretty unnatural to flatten out a shot to reduce hook potential.
@@rcracer8872 As far as the USBC and PBA is concerned, it is real bowling, and is most certainly allowed. So get used to it mate, you'll be seeing a whole lot more of them.
Im a lefty and find it almost impossible to throw a straight ball. Have been hitting my 7 pins way more consistently since i started lofting my ball more than usual for the shot. Gives the ball way less time to hook. I also stand pretty close to the right gutter
On the CP3 PBA celebrity tourney the other day they talked about some of the spare percentages for PBA players. If I remember correctly it was 95% for the ten pin and 93.7% for the seven. So we may not be alone.
For corner pins use method. 7 pin go over the third arrow on the right side. 10 pin go over the third arrow on the left side. 4 pin go over the second arrow on the right side. 6 pin go over the second arrow on the left side. This has really helped me
The difference between his two shots. The first one he had hand in the ball.. the second shot at the 10 he didn't. At least have someone showing this that can control his shot
By the way, the reason you hitted the 6 pin instead of the 10 pin on that second shot is because you were on board 24 and not board 20. If you had shot it on board 20 it would have been a 10 pin, probably even a little on the right side
Wow, first off you are throwing the ball superfast! Like 20 mph plus, so that is unrealistic for us average league bowlers. I would like to see what the strategy is for players who have launch speeds of 12-13 mph. I would assume plastic is a requirement for those normal league bowlers. For myself, who is in that 12 mph launch speed, I use my strike ball and normal strike release and I am fine hitting the corners as long as I move to the extreme sides and go straight at those pins. I also, like most average league bowlers, have low revs, so there is no fear of the ball hooking away unless the lane is ultra dry. It is important when doing videos like this to not assume everyone is like you, a higher level, high speed, higher rev bowler. Instructions for the common league bowler are different than for power players. Consider that, both with instruction and reviews of balls.
You guys are throwing very fast by our standards, very fast. Your revs are very high by "our" standards. We consider anyone above 300 rpms to be high rev. Above 400 is very high rev and 500 plus is ultra high rev. Most normal league bowlers are 250 rpms and below. I am 150 rpms myself. So my point is, please think about the little guy when doing vids too, what will work for "our game" at "our level." Don't provide high level bowler advice for low level bowlers. Keep the instruction separate and tell us in the video which target audience your instruction is for. Oh, and your spare shot took exactly 1.76 seconds to hit the pins, that's 23 mph. Thank you.
Your advice was generally good as a rough thumbnail sketch. Factors to consider for lower speed players, or rev dominant players that are not changing their strike release for spares, is that urethane is a very heavy hooking ball for those players and is not necessarily always a good ball to use for spares as it can have a tendency to hook away from the spare. Additionally, even a plastic ball, unless highly polished, can also hook for such players. I would like to see exact arrow alignment and feet alignment suggestions for the best chance to hit the corners for league bowlers. Saying, "stand right or stand left" and "throw through the middle where the oil is heavier" is not enough. Players need to find "exact alignments" so they are doing the same thing day in and day out, getting better at hitting those exact and same target lines. Show us examples of slower speed players working the corners with shiny plastic and then you guys can be the examples of the high speed players using a flat hand and resin to hit the corners. My main point I guess was, what you said was fine, but what you actually demonstrated was not that, it was a pro level technique not for the average league bowler.
@@pxrplexed3501 That's good. That's a more normal league bowler ball speed with an advanced technique. You basically do it like the pros of the past did.

RUclips it
I'm Right handed Bowler...If the 7 pin is the only one standing I always use my Hook Ball and it works every time! It hooks right to the 7 pin. The 10 pin however is where I need to figure out.
What urethane balls are you guys using for spare shooting?
Where are you standing and what arrow are you aiming for? Why not the second arrow when picking the 7 pin?
i bowl straight and always go to the side furthest from the pin
I want to see a video of Brad showing us how to spare the 4 pin
unknown2312 😂
When going after the 10 pin, do you want your right foot back on your initial stance to open your hips to the right side of the lane?
How about telling us where you on standing when you Ave picking up the 10 pin
Whatever happened to cross alley at the 7 pin?
I can't throw at an angle across the lane accurately. I move right and hook at left side pins and throw backup ball from the left side for the right side ones.
Keep workin those drills
All I do is take my middle finger out of the ball. Can’t get much revs on it that way. Some big name bowler from back in the day was a proponent of that method.
phathead797 Gary Dickinson
More common is removing the ring finger, because that's where you get more of your revolutions from. But, if it works, it works!
I’m new to bowling I only have my reactive ball, for my spares I typical just use the house balls 🤷🏽
So on spares you do not hook? Sorry just new to this
Depends on the spare really
Hello, I have a question and I hope you or someone can help me with,
Four years ago I got a bowler thumb and that made me quit bowling completely, truth be told I live in the Netherlands and bowling here is not as common as in the USA.
I have a bowling meet tomorrow. This better work🤨
I want to ask you what the best weight of ball
Ahmed Shujaa 15
16. Provides most power. Work up to it though, if you aren’t there yet.
Im a decent bowler but a bit inconsistent. I have alot of trouble with the 10 pin
Me too. Miss it 8 out of 10 tries
I WENT THERE TODAY
What about for a two hander any help on that?
Just loft it, and bowl it fast
As far as I am concerned 2 handed bowling is not bowling and shouldn't be allowed
@@Joeyd123abc2 still not right and still shouldn't be allowed
I'd always like to know where you are standing instead of your normal stance, thanks.
Im a lefty and find it almost impossible to throw a straight ball. Have been hitting my 7 pins way more consistently since i started lofting my ball more than usual for the shot. Gives the ball way less time to hook. I also stand pretty close to the right gutter
Well, no fucking duhhhh. Also, don't loft at spares.
@@darrenchaffin7885 Have another drink
Took the advise and just bought a plastic ball for spares on the corner.
I'm a righty, and I have way more trouble shooting 7 pins than 10 pins.
Same here.
On the CP3 PBA celebrity tourney the other day they talked about some of the spare percentages for PBA players. If I remember correctly it was 95% for the ten pin and 93.7% for the seven. So we may not be alone.
I just use my strike ball for the 7 pin, seems to work for me and my buddies
@@marcforonda3401 On house shots? Or on sport shots too?
The Insane Shecklador Only house, never actually bowled on a sport short before, I’m sure It’d be much different
So you're still walking straight? For pin 10 third arrow the ball gets laid at board 19.
That did not show me anything??
I use my ring finger and little finger to convert 10 pin
For corner pins use method. 7 pin go over the third arrow on the right side. 10 pin go over the third arrow on the left side. 4 pin go over the second arrow on the right side. 6 pin go over the second arrow on the left side. This has really helped me
Hey guys what if you only have a entry level reactive
They mention about a minute in. You flatten out and kill the revs if you can.
@@myrddintaliesin7943 thanks my man
my favorite way to pick up 10s is going straight down the lane haha
Toight lanes 17 18 used red ball watching viedo second
i dont hook the ball when spare. prefer plastic balls for spare
The difference between his two shots. The first one he had hand in the ball.. the second shot at the 10 he didn't. At least have someone showing this that can control his shot
I have a 210 average I still struggle with the 10pin from time to time. I use a plastic ball to throw at the 10.
When you shoot your 10 pin try leading with your thumb and point your feet at the pin. You should make it every time.
But i dont hook i throw for the most part straight
Same
#reversespin #breakthewrist
I only have money for one ball now?
My coach always tells me to flatten my hand on my 10 pins lol....
I throw my reactive ball underhand to get the 10 pin
Why does the guy on the right look like the bull guy from punch out that is also tyler1s long lost brother
Shirley McEuen oh god
P B A need's a ninja turtle
By the way, the reason you hitted the 6 pin instead of the 10 pin on that second shot is because you were on board 24 and not board 20. If you had shot it on board 20 it would have been a 10 pin, probably even a little on the right side
If I could pick my 10 pin up more I'd be a 200 plus bowler I miss 9 out 10 Times I am going to get a plastic ball and try that
how to lamar my best
Show five pen please
If you're shooting in 800 you're not worried about a ten pin give me break
guy on the right at beginning looks like golem
I spare my corner pins by not hitting them
easy, just aim
"I had no rotation on that ball" ummm yeah you did lol
YOU BOTH NEED BOWLING LESSONS YOURSELVES!
most stresset thing ever 5 9 spares in a row stupid 7 pin haha you must fall at the same time wit the other pins
If i can make the 10 pin i would be a 200 bowler smh
So my point is, please think about the little guy when doing vids too, what will work for "our game" at "our level."
Don't provide high level bowler advice for low level bowlers.
@@nordattack i throw my ball at 15 mph and i flatten my wrist to pick up all my corner pins its not hard to learn this
@@pxrplexed3501 That's good. That's a more normal league bowler ball speed with an advanced technique. You basically do it like the pros of the past did.
And it's also cauled use a plastic ball not reactive 🤔🤦🏼♂️
