    Great video. I feel the petroleum jelly is too much. Using the hair dryer(I use a heat gun, low setting) it allows the gasket to take form and connect to the fridge allowing the magnets to fully connect to the fridge and create a seal. After this process, do not open the door for 2 hours allowing the gasket to cool and keep form. Haven't had recalls on that type of job. Be careful not to apply too much heat to one area. The goal is to SLOWLY heat up the entire gasket side where there is no seal where the magnets close down to create a proper seal. Use a flashlight to see where there is no seal and slowly heat all around that gasket. Patience is key. You will then see the gasket start to seal as the magnets inside the gasket start touching the metal liner to create that seal that is needed. Cheers!

      We do recommend using a hair dryer/heat gun if you can. Then again, we don't want the gasket to melt.

    the gaskets on your website cost a fortune. The total of the freezer and fridge gaskets is a 1/3 of the price of the new refrigerator. Are you sleeping good at night? No nightmares?

    After putting gasket in hot water and drying it off, I think some water was retained in the gasket that freezes and hardens the gasket. I’ve tried pulling it off and letting it thaw and drain, but some water is still in it. Any suggestions?

    Petroleum jelly should not be used on rubber, it will react with rubber and destroy it after couple of years, if grease needs to be applied on rubber the only grease that is accepted is the silicone-based one, in this particular case since it would be in such close proximity to food the best silicone based grease would be the one used in plumbing because it is harmless if ingested by mistake.

    • @michaelpowers1042
      @michaelpowers1042 3 года назад +3

      Oil-based lubricants can be harmful to certain types of rubber, but definitely not all types of rubber. Regardless, as per the instructions, the petroleum jelly is to be wiped off after a week. It's been used without incident by refrigerator repair services for years. There's sufficient evidence to determine that it's not in the least bit harmful to the type of rubber used in these gaskets.
      And regarding the close proximity to food, petroleum jelly (like vaseline) is regularly used as a lip balm. It is not in any way harmful to be in such close proximity to food (by contrast, I would never put a plumber's silicone on my lips).

    So if i dont put the gasket in a tub of hot water,can i just use that blow dryer,allso do the petroleum jelly keeps the gasket flexible and lubricated.

    • @appliancepartspros
      @appliancepartspros  8 лет назад +3

      +mark simms The hot water will take out the bigger creases. The blow dryer is used for taking out smaller imperfections and may damage the gasket if overheated. The petroleum jelly helps the gasket seal during the setting period, that is why he says to clean the gasket in 5-7 days. Petroleum jelly also has been used to treat and condition gaskets for many years!

    What if my refrigerator is in use? do I have to unplug it and let it dry out completely ? am I able to just unplug refrigerator and install new gasket right away.? please help thank you @appliancepartspros

    • @appliancepartspros
      @appliancepartspros  7 лет назад +1

      Usually the door gasket can be changed pretty quickly, so you could just unplug it and change it. If you have anything sensitive on the freezer door you could put it in an ice chest or in the freezer and hang a shipping blanket or something over the opening to keep the cold in. It would take a long time to dry it out completely and you would be adding all the time that it takes to get back down to temp!

    what are the symptoms for air getting inside the freezer? my freezer's door is leaking a drop of water per hour on the outside, from within the door. could air getting into the freezer be the problem?

    • @appliancepartspros
      @appliancepartspros  6 лет назад +2

      If the gasket needs replacing, it will let warm air into the freezer. First, you can try checking around your freezer door with your hand. If you feel cold air, it can be a sign that your gasket is leaking air. OAnother simple test to determine this is the dollar bill test. Close your refrigerator door on a dollar bill, with half of it sticking out. Tug on the dollar bill, and you should feel some resistance. It shouldn't be easy to remove or slide up and down. Repeat this test all the way around the gasket.

    my freezer door pushes open just a touch when the fridge door is closed. would the gasket be the problem?

    • @appliancepartspros
      @appliancepartspros  6 лет назад

      First, make sure that your freezer isn't overstuffed. Even if it looks like everything is in there good, if something is sticking out just a little too far, it can cause that. Otherwise, that does sound like a gasket that needs replacing.

    Hello, why the rubber was heated, what is the heating temperature?

    • @appliancepartspros
      @appliancepartspros  6 лет назад

      The gasket is heated so that the rubber will be more pliable and better form to the door. Sometimes, the gaskets get bent during production and/or shipping, and this helps get those kinks out. I would put the hair dryer on its warmest setting, but be careful not to melt the rubber.
