Thanks for this demonstration. My daughter and I started at and finished in 37 minutes after watching this video. It's easier with two people for sure I would be like most guys and be a little upset as you need another person if you have never done this before. I also fixed my broken icemaker after watching your video. Thanks as this saved me a lot of money for a repairman! Now I'm off to fix my rental property gasket.
Excellent video that covers everything you need to be aware of. I followed it exactly and got the new gasket on and working perfectly. However, for my unit I did have significant difficulty getting all four corners in place. There were plastic trim sections on the top and bottom of the door that got in the way and only one could be removed. Also I needed to stretch the gasket to get it around the corner edges which also needed to be pried up with a small screwdriver to get the gasket edge underneath. But I got it done! Thanks for the most excellent instruction to us DYIers.
I don't care if you don't really need to take the door off... I just watched a 10 minute refrigerator repair video without skipping... and I dont even need to replace my gasket. This man is pure how-to video magic. The hair, the cadence, the the confidence oozing out his big brass nuts must be respected. Game recognize game, sir.
Thanks so much for this video! I changed out the gasket on my freezer and everything was exactly as shown, and now it works perfectly. Instead of having to spend a grand + on a new fridge, it was less than a hundred dollars to get the new gasket to keep her going for another couple of years. The seal is perfect- even better than on the not-damaged fridge side! The whole operation took me and my kid half an hour.
THANK YOU! The tips about starting in the corners is a life safer. I've done a few of these now and never thought to do it that way. This is much easier!
There were some good tips in this video. Using a nut driver handle to push in the gasket worked well. This could be done with the door attached. My KitchenAid has a wide groove for the gasket to fit into, making it even easier.
Glad I found this video before removing my old gasket. New Gasket W10407212 for my Whirlpool french style refrigerator door is very similar to this one. If I would have just tried to pry off my old gasket as I saw in another video, it would have destroyed my inside door panel. All is well after watching this video and taking about 40 minutes to install.
I just did this with the gasket that does not have the metal lip, but one that came from a used unit. The ridge that embeds into the channel in the door requires that you have a plastic pry tool to lever the gasket under the door lip. I had one for other purposes, bought from Amazon, which is about half an inch wide with shallow steps along the pry side, and blue in color. It came in a multi-pack of pry shapes. This tool lets you more easily slip the ridge into the door channel. I did it with the door attached and it took about 45 minutes. It will require a lot of finger and forearm effort. The key with this type of gasket is to get a part of it near (but not on the corner) embedded first, because it’s impossible to force the corner in otherwise. The metal lip gasket is most likely designed for replacement purpose, as you won’t be fighting to squeeze the gasket in, but rather simply pushing straight without prying as the video shows.
Easy to follow tutorial. Probably took about half hour. Yes; I took the door off. When you’re older; it just makes more sense. Now I need to adjust my door height.
Thank you very much! Before I saw this video, I was with the impresion that it was needed to remove the entire inside panel to reemplace this kind of gasket.
Incredibly helpful. The only difference I experienced that I felt may be helpful for someone else is that I lined up the corners precisely, but had to insert the black flap and inch or two down the line and come back towards the corner with the small round push rod to get them to go in. I feel like Tom Hanks in Castaway... "I have made fire!" Thanks APP
Taking the door off - easy. Taking off the old liner - easy. Fitting the new gasket around the corners - an hour and a half of fits and starts, with lots of cussing along the way. By the time I finally got them fitted, two of the corner seams had split. These Whirlpool/Kenmore gaskets no longer ship with a rigid fitting to go under the lip - it's all soft gasket material and tears very easily. My suggestion - you can do all the work of taking things apart, but hire a pro to fit the new gasket. If it tears, it's on his dime.
ok an hour later, after much howling into an empty kitchen... bike tire levers sort of worked out ok. they're designed for getting the bead of a bike tire seated in the rim, and they're rounded so that they don't gouge the tire, so they were perfect for this. also it helped to loosen the screws holding the inner door panel, just a turn or two, so the edge of the channel was easier to lift, and then tightening them again once done with a section.
I was wondering what I was going to have to end up doing with the gasket I got shipped to me. It is all creased and whatnot, and I was thinking I might have to send it back! Thanks for the tip on heating it up a little bit.
The one box was so tore up, the shipping invoice fell out of the box! A huge hole on the side! I ordered one for the fridge, and one for the freezer. Unfortunately the fridge is the wrong size, so I have to send it back to Sears... It's not as bad as the freezer though, so I'm not too worried about it.

Removing a refrigerator door does make it easier, but it is certainly possible to remove and replace with the door on. When I replace the gaskets, I seldom if ever remove the door--it doubles my labor. Especially on higher end brands like Sub Zero, Lebherr, Monogram, etc.
Not all these type seals have the hard plastic lip and they are a real difficult thing to get back into the door liner. I did mine without removing the door and man that bottom section made me crazy!!. I’d certainly recommend taking the door off for sure with this type of seal. Used a hairdryer to soften the seal once it was on for a perfect seal.
@@appliancepartspros Thank you very much for the guide, it was the only video guide I could find that dealt with this type of seal - all the other push in type seals look a heck of a lot easier than this type. Many thanks for the tips, helped me out here.

Great video. It sure makes it easy when people who have done this before take time to video your work and show it to the rest of us backyard mechanics. Todd White I usually always wear the gloves, they are pretty thin. Occasionally I cannot get the feedback through them and I take them off, in this case I could not tell if the gasket was going in between the door and the door liner.
Besides I can't believe how expensive is the gasket, when I bought my refrigerator it cost 500 dollars and one gasket replacement cost 71 dollars, is almost the fifth part of the cost...
Just replaced my fan because the original one was noisy. I may have pushed the fan on the motor too far because the shaft protrudes through the fan blades. Everything seems to work, but is this a problem?
If the part attached to the fridge where the gasket touches is rusted, is there a hack to replace this or temporarily do something until I can afford another fridge? Is rusted only at the very bottom, causing a tiny air to enter
