They need friends/family/anyone who can provide some honest but badly needed feedback. Recording yourself is also a very easy but hugely important thing to do. Easy to deceive yourself into thinking you're Van Halen when you're too feet from your amp and the drummer is blowing out your ear on the other side.
Agreed, plus the awful quality of the recording can make it sound much worse than what the people in the venue heard. Entire frequencies are missing on the playback. I feel bad for the last band especially...to have to be undeservedly immortalized here in this corner of you tube.

We all started somewhere. What I don't or fail to understand is why bands, before taking on a show, don't practice more often. Or am I one of the few when I was younger to realize that I didn't want to go on stage unprepared and look like a fool. @devilskware *KRIS* was actually an essential part of Nirvana. Just because, yeah, the bass guitar is at a lower frequency than Kurt's guitar, doesn't mean he didn't do anything. He was the driving force of Nirvana songs a lot of the time.

So used to seeing phenomenal musicians on the internet that are at top level, we make videos like these and rip on the average. Props to everyone in this video for picking up an instrument and letting your passions drive you, rather than your perfections. I’ve played guitar for 6 months now, I’d easily qualify for being in a video like this, but I could care less because I have fun doing what I do as a hobby.
Loved this video!! some of the best avant garde jazz covers I’ve heard in a long. The drummer in the green day set, such flare, such shuffle on the snare!!
@@SmallvillenerdTwo Not sure if you got the reference, but that was to their Jaded in Chicago show in 1994 I believe. Billie was high on meth at that time. Well, so was everyone else.
@@theevildrummingsithlord1492 and the fact that they added that in at the start of their cover just makes it even more painfully embarrassing to watch.
what this proves is that it's a lot harder to become an actual musician than it is to use a laptop to place pre-made loops (by somebody else) in a grid (Ableton), sing through a pitch corrector, and call it original music
I've played guitar for 44 years, made electronic music for 35 years and I use Ableton a lot these days, and all I can say is, what a waste of a fantastic resource when someone just uses other people's beats and samples. The very least an aspiring producer can do is learn how to program a drum machine...
This just reminds me of the good old days. I remember starting out jamming with my friends. Talk about the best fun you could ever have back in those days. The bond that I had with those guys was like a brotherhood. We grew up together, being barely able to play simple barre chords to playing sold out shows. We all have to start somewhere. Not all of us stick with it, but the ones that do are the ones that become great!!
To be FAIR, the kids doing Smells Like Teen Spirit are 1) not even teens yet themselves and 2) very much so not setup for success. The way they have it setup, it's impossible for the girl to hear herself, or the band behind her while she's singing. They probably did way better in rehearsal and learned on this day (as many of us have) that the situation you're in can dramatically change the way you're hearing yourself and the group. After a few of these you learn how to adjust to where you can at least hear yourselves. Good effort!
I actually liked the first one. Wobbly vocals but so what? They're kids, they're still learning. If we'd heard it after being told it was a long-lost Velvet Underground demo, no-one would question it
@@SharingSoundz Exactly. At least they've got the balls to get up there. The Jesus & Mary Chain did their 1st gig the day they bought their 1st guitars - bet that wasn't so pretty either!
The tiki torch at 5:05 is a nice touch. Hey, at least all of these guys are trying. Better than just sitting inside staring at a cell phone screen 24 hrs a day
These bands were mostly young kids, clearly still learning their instruments and being very new to both bands and gigs. My favourite was the girl screaming over a clean guitar in Smell Like Teen Spirit. Badass.
@Greg Gentile keep covers to a minimum, like 95% original songs, my band has no cover songs, you're not going to get anywhere playing someone else's songs, by the way what instrument do you play, or are you vocals
Best advice ever... we ditched covers years back and started writing our own songs... you cant get them wrong if you do, its unlikely anyone will care!
Facts the moment I wanna jam with someone and they mention the C word I bounce my views on covers are well it’s not my art so I’d rather not play it I wanna create my own sound
The last band will be just fine. They have to start somewhere and they do have talent. I've been a musician/ drum instructor for 27 years. I remember very well starting in high school sounding just like this. They will be awesome musicians.
@Paul Murphy Dude I'm totally with you on this... I got so fed up of trying to do covers that my band only does originals now... its not easy copying someone else's style of guitar playing and those kids where killing it. Zac is missing a K and he is also missing any compassion because he is a twat!
@Paul Murphy Ha ha, you know my pain brother and that Zac guy definitely doesn't play otherwise he wouldn't be such a dick! I cant be a hypocrite on this point, everyone starts out without the experience, knowledge and ability and its pure luck if you work it all out and become a great musician, the rest of us just bob along somewhere in the middle! Peace and love to you, and keep on playing!
It's not even that bad. So much Raw Talent. Just keep going you can tell that they're in the early stages of their musician or career haha I'm just saying never give up you have what it takes a dream and that is it
Well I thought the death metal band at about 9:07 was not bad, they kept a good beat and rhythm, sounded somewhat in key. They sounded like a death metal band should, not like the rhythmically challenged, tone deaf other bands.
I've been in bands for 35 years and yeah, some of my first ones when I was just learning were pretty bad. You have to have a sense of humor and be able to listen to the old stuff and laugh at yourself.
That last band shouldn't be on this list. They were pretty good especially for kids. Good energy, solid playing. Everything else on the video? Some people should never pick up an instrument or try to sing! Ok, maybe that's too harsh. The first band was also pretty good, just needed better vocals. But really, practice, get your song together before even attempting to perform it in front of people.
Rehearsing is what is needed in all these examples. Play the song 1000 times before you showcase it. Recording your rehearsals is also a great idea, so you can see and hear you mistakes.
No way, these kids have more guts than people who’ve never been on stage that are judging them. Now for the people in charge of doing the FOH sound… yeah they might be the worst 😂
No way can you say the SOAD band was no good!! They gave it the beans and it’s a credit to them how close they got - it’s a very very tough one to cover👌🏼
The last ones playing toxicity did too well for this list. They had good energy, powered thru some difficult vocals convincingly enough and had the crowd absolutely digging it. That’s a win
I mean thats what you do in middle/high school when you play instruments. I dont see nothing wrong here. sure they suck but you gotta start from somewhere
Some of these are very understandable at being bad. The ones out live jumped the gun but I see nothing wrong with recording a shitty jam/practice and posting it on here to show the progress you made as a musician over time.
These are mostly kids, and they need to go through this to get better. I went through it myself, and I’m no rock star, but these sound like my first shows. Now, I have my music played during highlight clips of NFL, MLB, NBA, and NHL games.
All of these bands sound like various bands we had growing up. Some were better than others, but everyone was trying to learn. I give them all props for getting out there and trying.
Anyone who can get on stage and not piss themselves from the terror of facing an audience has my respect. Music does not come easy unless it's from Pandora and baggin on the young isn't very nice. Next time throw shade at grown up shitty rockers, they love the attention 😊 right Motley Crue???
The first band wasn't that bad, they just had a bad singer. When you first start forming bands it can be hard to find singers, so you usually take whatever's available. My first band was worse.
I've been a bassist for over fifty years. I now consider myself an accomplished musician, though it required work, particularly learning theory and studying string bass. After I switched to electric bass in high school I have no doubt a number of my bands would qualify for this video. Though the very act of performing for people drove me to become a better musician. And after all these years I admit I have a long way to go. I listen to Tal Winkelfeld, a 15 year old bassist who has played with Jeff Beck and I am humbled. I suppose if I were a guitarist and heard the sadly late Danny Gatton I would feel the same way. His live album with Robert Gorden was not titled "The Humbler" without reason.
It is very easy to come here and give grief to kids that haven't been playing for long, that go up in front of all their peers and try something that is hard to do and can be easily made fun of, but how many people have the stones to do the same? Even the best bands and the most talented musicians have recordings like this, it is part of learning how to make music. In order to find out what works you have to find out what doesn't, and I give these KIDS tons of credit for giving it a shot.
Man I give props to anyone who even tries to get up there and do this and some of these was actually damn good the first band was really cool and the last band was awesome as hell
1:00 Who gave that kid a mic..the band isn't really that bad..some small tweaks..but that mic.. Take it away. All these singers...like did you try just listening to their voice with just an acoustic, or by itself?
I actually liked the "Under Pressure" kids (not particularly the song). The singer needs some lessons and they need to tighten it up overall, but I heard some good stuff a couple of times too!

@@calvinmark2112 You're absolutely correct. And the drummer actually did a good job. Kurt probably wouldn't have liked that quite as much as the rest of it
I think what most people don't realize is that these kids are just starting out in life. They probably haven't been taught meter, pitch, keys and playing their instruments properly. Give them a chance and don't take away their dreams, no matter how horrible sounding they are.
What hurt me more than the vocals for the band that did Smells Like Teen Spirit was there was no bassist. As a bass guitarist, that made me sad.
Don't be sad. Chris is not really doing much. Just imagine the guitar at a lower decibel you'll be OK
@devilskware *KRIS* was actually an essential part of Nirvana. Just because, yeah, the bass guitar is at a lower frequency than Kurt's guitar, doesn't mean he didn't do anything. He was the driving force of Nirvana songs a lot of the time.
@@devilskware A typical idiotic statement of someone knowing sh1t..
I'm 64 now but I can remember back to the time I was about 18, playing in a band that almost had it together and our singer couldn't really sing, but he helped the band keep place in the songs, so he stayed part of the band for a while. Hats off to you Scott.
The third one's bassist and guitarist sucks so much, the drummer is trying to stay as far away as possible.
They're not a garage band, they're a shed band!
@@johnford3553
Haha haha yes
😆😆😆 Should've assembled his kit inside his van and played from there!
@@rodneybellber4483
Good idea.
Yeah who tf decided the guitarist had gotten good enough where he should have a stack
Pro musician for half a century, that's the right attitude buddy, keep on going.
Loved this video!! some of the best avant garde jazz covers I’ve heard in a long. The drummer in the green day set, such flare, such shuffle on the snare!!
I love how the Green Day cover band tried doing the "You Worry" thing at the start of "She".
Yeah that was just a bit painful
@@SmallvillenerdTwo Not sure if you got the reference, but that was to their Jaded in Chicago show in 1994 I believe. Billie was high on meth at that time. Well, so was everyone else.
@@theevildrummingsithlord1492 and the fact that they added that in at the start of their cover just makes it even more painfully embarrassing to watch.
@@SmallvillenerdTwo True.
Sing untill my ears bleed lol
what this proves is that it's a lot harder to become an actual musician than it is to use a laptop to place pre-made loops (by somebody else) in a grid (Ableton), sing through a pitch corrector, and call it original music
Absolutely love how the Green Day kid made a Marshall stack sound like that. Remarkable.
It looks like one of those mg heads. No wonder it sounds like shit
Tbh some of them aren't even THAT bad, especially the first one, its mostly just the singing
I actually liked the first one. Wobbly vocals but so what? They're kids, they're still learning. If we'd heard it after being told it was a long-lost Velvet Underground demo, no-one would question it
@@Sr19769p I know right? They'd all be like "just listen to how raw and into the music they are, so much artistry"...
@@SharingSoundz Exactly. At least they've got the balls to get up there. The Jesus & Mary Chain did their 1st gig the day they bought their 1st guitars - bet that wasn't so pretty either!
Stan Danly the first one was so bad it made Freddie come back to life
And yeah the symbols were bad also but I know what your saying
The tiki torch at 5:05 is a nice touch. Hey, at least all of these guys are trying. Better than just sitting inside staring at a cell phone screen 24 hrs a day
These bands were mostly young kids, clearly still learning their instruments and being very new to both bands and gigs. My favourite was the girl screaming over a clean guitar in Smell Like Teen Spirit. Badass.
If ur gonna be a band, don’t play songs everybody knows, and make sure ur interesting
@Greg Gentile keep covers to a minimum, like 95% original songs, my band has no cover songs, you're not going to get anywhere playing someone else's songs, by the way what instrument do you play, or are you vocals
@@EVMjimmy I have my own band - we've done covers a lot but we add our own twists to them. Additionally, we're slowly transitioning to new music.
Brings back painful but fun memories lol! Keep rocking guys, you’ll get there... well some quicker than others lol!
Cool the 1st singer turned enter sandman into a showtune...that was great. Lmao
What???
You mean the second
At this point Lars and Hetfield should start doing theatre, they are such drama queens! Lmao
The kids playing Toxicity totally killed it! Why is it on this video?
I am Chandler I hope that is sarcasm
Yes, I hope you are being sarcastic as well...
Compare them to this band and you will hear why Hammerhedd ruclips.net/video/P8s70VAHktk/видео.html
Amazing they had footage of Queen rehearsing Under Pressure there. Bowie was having a cuppa in the studio kitchen at that moment, clearly
Sounds like Freddie might have been having on off day.
It's not even that bad. So much Raw Talent. Just keep going you can tell that they're in the early stages of their musician or career haha I'm just saying never give up you have what it takes a dream and that is it
The last band was pretty good. Toxicity one of my favorite songs
Exactly, and the video quality seems old would be sick seeing them play In 1080p
Well I thought the death metal band at about 9:07 was not bad, they kept a good beat and rhythm, sounded somewhat in key. They sounded like a death metal band should, not like the rhythmically challenged, tone deaf other bands.
0:40 Is this the worst band in the world or the best Post Punk band in the world? 🤔😂
I've been in bands for 35 years and yeah, some of my first ones when I was just learning were pretty bad. You have to have a sense of humor and be able to listen to the old stuff and laugh at yourself.
There is no keyboard in Enter Sandman, that's what they get lol, a tragic disaster
7:27 this is pure art
It really isnt but you tried it
That last band shouldn't be on this list.
That last band could jam!!!
And that singer is good enough to sing in most of the bands I've heard around my area.
I agree! I didn't hear anything wrong with them. They sounded pretty groovy🤘
Musicians have all been there.
Bowie and freddie born agsin at the same tome😂😂😂😂😂
I actually liked the first group, they look like a version of the School of Rock...and they played 'Under Pressure' pretty good.
THANKS FOR KEEPING THE SCENE ALIVE!!!
I will cut the first band a break...it was awful but it could have been way worse! They did good for Queen. You guys have my respect!
A lot of these are just kids. 99% of all musicians had that first band that wasn’t great but you gotta start somewhere.
Rehearsing is what is needed in all these examples. Play the song 1000 times before you showcase it. Recording your rehearsals is also a great idea, so you can see and hear you mistakes.
Where did you find the footage of Eugene Levy's high school band in the first video?
The last band wasn't that bad. The audience seemed to like them. Playing loud and at the same tempo covers a multitude of sins.
幸いにも知ってる曲が多かったけど、
その曲だとわかるまでに恐ろしく時間がかかりました。

The first one, y’all need some milk.
The instrumentals were fine. It's the vocals that were bad.
that first group wasn't a fail, the spirit was there.
The 3rd band weren't half bad, Reminded me of an early The Clash....then their mums called them in for their dinner
Agreed. My fav of the lot
The last ones playing toxicity did too well for this list. They had good energy, powered thru some difficult vocals convincingly enough and had the crowd absolutely digging it. That’s a win
Gotta love their version of "Sandman" the singer and the band made it sound in the style of "Devo".
Haha,thought so too 😆😅🤣
I'd like to hear DEVO cover that song honestly.
I mean thats what you do in middle/high school when you play instruments. I dont see nothing wrong here. sure they suck but you gotta start from somewhere
The Nirwana cover is pure Rock. Rockn roll comes allways from the heart. The Girl has the true spirt of punk und rock. great performance!!
Minute 8:30 If Curt Cobain were still alive, he would die at this moment😂
small hint learn a instrument before starting a band it works some times
@3:47
Is that sheet music I see up on the piano...??
Some of these are very understandable at being bad. The ones out live jumped the gun but I see nothing wrong with recording a shitty jam/practice and posting it on here to show the progress you made as a musician over time.
These are mostly kids, and they need to go through this to get better. I went through it myself, and I’m no rock star, but these sound like my first shows. Now, I have my music played during highlight clips of NFL, MLB, NBA, and NHL games.
How do you mess up enter sandman?! I could play that after like two months of playing guitar😂
Pressure can make you mess up even the most basic of riffs.
The singer is just out there man...
You put a keyboard in it is how.

All of these bands sound like various bands we had growing up. Some were better than others, but everyone was trying to learn. I give them all props for getting out there and trying.
Love the "Drummer in the Shed".
I just saw that. Pretty cleaver
These kids are doing something creative, it takes balls to get up on stage! More they do it the better they become! Treat every gig as a rehearsal!
Give ‘em a break....I’ve seen Iggy Pop do worse! Lol lol
HA ha ha Isn't that the damn truth!!
MANY TIMES and I won't mention JOHNNY THUNDERS ...I think some of them are ok
Anyone who can get on stage and not piss themselves from the terror of facing an audience has my respect. Music does not come easy unless it's from Pandora and baggin on the young isn't very nice. Next time throw shade at grown up shitty rockers, they love the attention 😊 right Motley Crue???
mom kept yelling turn it down (joes garage remember that one )
I have children sleeping in here ...don't you boys know any nice songs?
The first band wasn't that bad, they just had a bad singer. When you first start forming bands it can be hard to find singers, so you usually take whatever's available.
My first band was worse.
If only we could play this video to the crowd before we go on stage, we would storm it
As someone who just learned Toxicity on the drums, it’s freaking hard to play that song right. The last band was perfectly fine
7:26 ah yes, Nervana, with Kert Kobayne, Dove Ghrol, and Crist Novaselech.
I can never listen to Metallica again after that ear bashing I just copped hahahaha
I can't and won't listen to them.

1:00 Who gave that kid a mic..the band isn't really that bad..some small tweaks..but that mic.. Take it away. All these singers...like did you try just listening to their voice with just an acoustic, or by itself?
The Queen band wasn't bad,.. being brand new musicians, just playing with each other a couple times.. not bad
I actually liked the "Under Pressure" kids (not particularly the song). The singer needs some lessons and they need to tighten it up overall, but I heard some good stuff a couple of times too!
The System of a down kids killed it...sorry! Hands down

I'm in a band... With myself, So I can actually sound decent.
those compilations sometimes just feel like people making fun of bands/projects who don't have 10k budget for equipment and therefore don't sound so good but can play, the under pressure and especially toxicity groups were very nice
