If it's set to be released on Playstation as Luke said, wouldn't that mean that Sony's already approved of this? Unless the developers got ahead of themselves by announcing this prior to getting approval from Sony.
You can't copyright "similar robots". As long as the story is different and the bots aren't identical. I'm not seeing the problem. Anyone can make an open world robot game.
@@quademasters249 I feel the same way. I just find Luke's stance on the whole lawsuit thing bizarre, not to mention warning about possible predatory microtransactions when that exists in the game that he advertised for in the beginning of the video.
I don’t know man, this game looks pretty sweet. But i’m also of the opinion that companies shouldn’t get to just own aesthetics in this case robot animals in a green post apocalypse. I for one will be keeping an eye on this game.
this Could be pretty fun yeah I'll try it for sure. and yes companies shouldn't own ideas and sony even approved this game being on playstation so they're not bothered by it which is a huge difference from what Nintendo does. but you can't deny this goes beyond similarity it's a female mc in a green post apocalyptic world with robot dinosaurs and tribalistic themes like they pretty much copied the whole aesthetic and some robots look straight up copied from Horizon. again i don't think it should be sued or anything but there's no denying their heavily inspired and sometimes copied aesthetic and themes of horizon. hope it'll turn out good tho I'll play it for sure
didn't we go through the exact same thing with genshin impact? at first everyone accused it of being a botw ripoff because of the visuals, but the gameplay turned out to be very different and it became a huge success same with palworld really
That did happen. Another game possibly in the same vein is Craftopia, made by the ppl that did Palworld. If they would actually sit down and finish it, it would be a fun, enjoy game that is a hodge podge of 5+ others
As far as I'm aware, their government incentivises making "foreign" things Chinese. They grant contracts to companies just to steal other countries' inventions.
I see my comment critical of China immediately got deleted by YT. Tldr, It pays its companies to copy others' products because they are not a free market.
And that is based. Besides, if they were actually infringing copyright, then Sony (owner of the Horizon franchise) would've sued them, instead of allowing the game to release on the PS5.
I had an internship at a Chinese mobile game company where they literally just took the code from one game and were just slapping another coat of paint on it. That really feels like what this is here. Edit: Just for some clarity, the study was called Hammer Studios, which was a small like 20-person start up in Chengdu under TapTap. I was only there for 2 months as part of a "marketing" internship over summer, which was basically just me playing shitty mobile games to see what events they had. How they specifically got the game code is beyond me, but a few commentators seem to think it's impossible to reverse engineer/data mine a game to get access to its data. Also why lie about a scam internship at a shitty mobile game company that's hopefully closed down? Weird flex for internet clout, but okay...
And suddenly everyone and their mothers either had an "internship" or were "engineers" or "programmers" for Chinese companies. Sudden inflow of "insiders". Lmao, what a joke. 😂
FFS why don't you do some simple research before going "sony needs to sue"? the official playstation account on bilibili and weibo promoted LoM so sony is not gonna sue, they more than likely have some deal with tencent or else why would the OFFICIAL playstation account be promoting the game
Western games usually focus on 1 thing and try to make it as good as possible. Chinese games try to incorporate as much as they can cuz someone could find it useful or fun. Chess vs Checkers kind of thing: With chess you have a direct plan, while with checkers, you're not sure where this will go, but it might be useful in the future (might be fun for many people).
6:15 so we just aren't going to talk about this attack that looks eerily similar to the phase transition attack by the falling star beast boss in Elden ring?
That enemy overall just seems like a straight-up reskin of the Fallingstar Beast. The head slam attacks, especially the one where it plunges its pincers into the ground and shovels it forward, look identical.
Oh wow, I didn't notice that until you pointed it out. I'm guessing most of the game really is just a copy and paste of more popular games (and Horizon for some reason)
They also showed a gorilla machine that has Godrick's attacks from his second phase. And I know some of the moves in Elden Ring are bought from Epic but isn't it funny that they chose to copy some of the most succesful games from the past few years. Since Hogwart's sold 30 million copies I think a Chinese studio will come out with a Harry Potter ripoff as well. These stuff are textbook examples of the Chinese copy stereotype...
To be fair this is nothing new for a Chinese game, this particular game is just getting a lot more attention than most because it's being released outside of China. After watching some of the gameplay it made me think of Palworld/survival game base with maybe a bit of Monster Hunter DNA covered in a horizon zero dawn skin. After Palworlds success I wouldn't be surprised if we see a few more like this, though maybe with a less obvious visual style ripoff. Gotta give them props for the trailer though, it got people talking about a game I probably never would have heard of otherwise.
there ain't gonna be a lawsuit. Nintendo couldn't sue Palworld for the blatant rip-off pokemon and pokeballs. you can't sue for something like enemy types, visuals, etc. if you can, then car racing and bike racing games can sue each other for using the same cars and tracks.
First of all, thats not how intellectual property works, you cant just copyright real life objects. Second of all, Nintendo is in fact still sueing Palworld for their use of Palspheres and if their track record (100 % of cases won in Japan) is anything to go off of their lawyers have a decent chance at succeeding.
I love pokemon but there is no way i would go back after palworld was made. Horizon is great but this game looks much more like what i wanted horizon to be i hope it gets much bigger than horizon and proves everyone wrong.
I wanna play it as well. Horizon Forbiden West was so boring to me. Man Aloy is such a boring character. But this ripoff looks like fun. And after every terrible broken game the western developers released, i'm ok with it
Western Devs: Refuse to show gameplay until 5th or last trailer before game release. Chinese Devs: Gameplay in 1st trailer 4 or 5 years before the game release
its crazy how the rage bait is actually working. that it literally what palworld is and yet it was among the most popular games of the year. little bit of pokemon, little bit of zelda, little bit of every other survival crafting game out there, and yet it sold over 2 million copies for an early access launch. kind of hypocritical to now make fun of this tactic when palword is far from the first successful game to do this.
@@natethegamer45 God yes finally I hear someone saying this. Enough people liked palworld to defend it or just look past all this, but the studio that made it has the exact same strategy for game development. "Pokémon with guns" just scratches the surface. Copied assets, animations, even sound effects are everywhere if you've played enough games to notice them. People need to grow some fucking values and avoid games like this even if they are somewhat entertaining. Like yeah no shit if you copy paste an amazing game you'll probably end up with something at least somewhat enjoyable.
@@lortigaproductions3120 i think you misunderstood what i was saying. not that im about to defend this game cause how could i when no one has played it, but its not fair to judge it solely on doing what other games have done that have become successful. palworld is a fun game. copying mechanics from other games isnt inherently bad, its the implementation of those mechanics and how well they mesh with the other aspects. imo palworld does this well. i havent seen any examples of straight up copied animations and assets in palworld. similarity and inspiration isnt the same as asset flip. enshrouded is basically a copy of valheim with this logic with some original ideas as well as things takes from other games out of that genre. the list goes on in every genre of games. my point was that that alone is not reason enough to say a game will be bad.
@@natethegamer45 Then I suspect you have fallen in exactly the sort of mental trap I describe. Because it's fun and 'works' you avoid claiming moral fallibility or at least avoid looking for it. A game can be fun and still built on corrupt ethics. If you haven't noticed any copied aspects I urge you to take a closer look and search for comparisons. Off the top of my head a few examples are the copied assets of elden ring evergaols, sound effects from breath of the wild when discovering a new area and the ripped skeletal structures of pokemon designs along with the thematic designs of many. Not enough to claim a copyright strike doesn't constitute an original idea, or even a combination of original ideas into something new and 'original'. I also urge you to look at their prior games, as it's exactly the same sort of product that this here horizon/palworld ripoff is. Even if you think palworld is above board, the studio that made it lives off of shallowly copying ideas of popular games and merging them into something new. They released a game called 'Ai impostor' with amongus looking characters, where you discern real art from art made by Ai, and it pretty much sums up their entire philosophy. They live off of just skating below the legal and (not successfully imo) ethical radar but they are insanely aware of it and abuse the perspective you have to their advantage. Fun über alles, as long as it's fun it might as well be made by slave labour and copy every idea and mechanic from another game right? We do seem to agree though that this game and palworld are doing the same thing, just not on its consequences of moral ramifications.
It looks great. Lets not fool our selves here. Who cares if it looks like something we know. If the game is good, the game is good. Simple as that really
I would love to see Sony try to copyright biomech animals as their own, as if mechas and biomechanical animals/humans hadn't existed before horizon... their entire reputation would be at play

When it come to games, I don't care at all if it's a ripoff as long as it's good. I also wish the entire gaming ecosystem was a free for all and not just China. Corporate gaming copyright has gotten way out of hand.
At the end of the day, the only thing that matters is whether the game is good or not. Let’s not pretend that Palworld isn’t massively successful and Nintendo isn’t able to sue them for copyright infringement of Pokémon, they sued them for a game mechanic patent. Let’s not pretend that Valorant isn’t massively derivative of CSGO, Apex, and Overwatch yet it is one of the most popular games in the market, or LoL vs dota1. Sure there’s a lot of knockoff games in China, but they are prevalent outside of China and actually being market leaders too. Btw I have no idea if this game will be good or not, it’s just the way Luke has been covering it seems extremely biased and disingenuous.
Yeah, see, Aloy doesn't look anything like that guy, especially not in the finished game. Far too muppets just saw that one screenshot from the state-of-play demo (which was taken through a fisheye lens) and decided she must be ugly, because their only experience with women is anime.
After watching Asmon's video on it, you can throw in Elden Ring too. And I'm all for it if they can mesh them together nicely. I could care less about "original" most of the time. I just want something fun
i mean i dont care if its a rip off or a copycat as long as its fun it doesnt matter to me, even palworld looked like garbage but palworld is somehow the most fun survival game ive ever played so who knows. i think you're being a little too hard here ngl.
I don't think Palworld is the right comparison. If it's a survival base builder with dinosaurs wouldn't it be closer to ARK, which is where Palworld gets most of its game loop from in the first place.
I’ve never played a single Horizon Zero Dawn, yet what I do know they made characters a bit ugly. Maybe buying Light of Motiram is safer putting my wallet to.
A lot of people are saying that the creatures/structures are based on Horizon: Zero dawn... Having not played the game, the designs look more close to the Tek Creatures from ARK:Survival Evolved to me. Heck, skip Horizon Zero Dawn and Palworld and just say its ARK:Survival Evolved/Ascended. I remember ARK being such a hit in Chinese gaming community when it was still in beta. Global Asia PvE Servers were littered with pillar structures as "Land claims" by chinese players.
Palworld with Horizon coat of pain, Zelda stuff, No Man Sky ish building, with survival? In all seriousness, Luke... I'm kinda struggling to see why this is so laughable. I get it's pulling from a ton of other games but I love those games. If it's marketed as a trick then yeah that sucks, but this stuff seems fine to me. Am I just crazy for thinking all this?
Taking game design aspects is one thing but copying the whole art bible of another studios is something else. No matter its a rip off on the art stuff through and through.
@ Nope, buddy the stuff you see in games is technically design not art, it has intent, extensive rule guides and concise logic it’s not about expression like traditional art. Game art falls under the category of art design but this is entire different to a painting in a museum or fan art. Copying a design is way more intentional, than being inspired by an artist. There is style and then design intent. It’s bad faith or just ignorance to say this is just following the history of art. If this was fan art and etc then fine but different rules apply to concept artists.
@@Relugus This is a great point! Grew up in the 1990's wild west of game design and your comment reminds me how interesting and unique things can truly be.

They think that monstrous machines and beautiful protagonist is what’s great about Horizon….but its actually the story that makes you feel Aloy’s struggle is what drives this masterpiece
So; - Robots from HZD - Buildings either from Halo Forerunners or Ark Survival Evolved/Ascended - Gameplay from Monster Hunter AND Ark/Palworld - Cinematics from Terminator (from the skull crushing to the guy/Sarah Connor getting vaporized by the nuke) I mean, I appreciate the attempt of trying to combine survival/base building with MH style combat and all, but c'mon man they are not even trying.
So how is this any different than Ironmace making Dark and Darker? Or any of the thousands of Phasmophobia, Lethal Company, etc, clone games that are on steam
If cloning happens elsewhere that doesn't make cloning Horizon ZD ok. If companies (from e.g China) steal Rockstar's customers by 100% cloning GTA 6 as soon as its released then it becomes impossible for Rockstar to justify spending 100s of millions on making new games. It crosses the line when playing 1 game means there's no point paying for the other game due to the experience being the same.
@@asumax8What are these "many great games" you are talking about ? If you were right the makers of many great games would get successfully sued for making exact copies of other games.

People also criticized Palworld for being a Pokemon copy and it was pretty good. Better wait for more information than just jump already to criticize the game because you dont like the way the base building works.
at this point we wont have games with everyone saying things are "rip offs" or copying...this looks like it takes INSPIRATIONS from games such as palworld, monster hunter, any survival game made in existence. competition breeds excellence and as long as it isnt a complete copy word for word, or start to finish identical, taking inspirations to create even better products is what keeps the gaming industry growing. Imagine wanting the gaming industry to dry up because everyone is patenting mounts, and hunting, and building bases...
Horizon is an insanely astroturfed IP. Overblown "sales" because they were bundled with consoles, at best mid games that arent that popular. Sony is desperate for console exclusive ips though so they pushed it as much as possible. The steam numbers for the games and the lego horizon disaster shows its actual popularity.
@@anon2752Horizon is bundled with God of War and TLOU, bruh. PlayStation always bundles their highest selling games, which means the games had to have sold well on launch day for Sony to include them
looks way more than just a horizon rip. more like 5 or more games. Insert survival game, monster hunter, horizon, insert mobile game, insert random mmorpg. Doesnt look good at all. when you try to do too much it becomes too bloated.
well if you have the same idea but even in a much better concept, i dont see why is a bad thing? many try to copy WoW and they all fail, just imagine a game better than the first original idea i actualy belive horizon zero could been a way much better game
Just because it's got robot animals don't make it a rip off. If that's the case then horizon is a rip off of zoids or power rangers. I wish people would 🛑 doing this.
Um dude have you played horizon Zero Dawn or forbidden west....this game is literally ripping off horizon literally it has nothing to do with the fact that they're machines it has more to do with the fact that the design literally look just like the design of the machines in horizon with a few of the smallest tweaks
@Sleepless_HeroChan I know. All I'm saying is that just because a thing has similarities, a lot of similarities, don't make it a bad thing. If the makers of horizon had patented that design people would be complaining about that. Remember the nemesis system? Remember pal world? Content creators called it pokemon with guns untill Nintendo sued, if they win we the gamers will be the losers. I can't even play pokemon on PS or Xbox but I can play pal world. For now. Competition really is good for us and only successful games get copied.
@quannernoble4505 pokemon is suing not because of similarities but because of a patent infringement cus pokemon patent the Pokeball mechanic The nemesis system is a patent thing. it's the reason no other game can even try to copy or use the idea of the mechanics And it's never a good thing for games to be copied its alright to pay homage to a game by adding references and maybe makeing design look similar to another game but to blatantly copy a game and say its your own original idea isn't ok and never will be just because you add a few tweaks doesn't mean it's different or original And I've played both horizon Zero Dawn and Forbidden west they are not only copying the designs of the machines but the gameplay is also alike to Monster Hunter which I don't mind that being that there was another game series called god eater and is a monster hunter clone but the difference was it had its own ideas and mechanics that made it different but the way the machines fight other then the gravity thing that the bull machine does it just screams horizon and the design looks just like the designs of horizon the white metal plating the different elements that some machines can use I mean the second machine they show fighting is a crap that can shoot out ice from its backside there are multiple ways you can make a robotic animal I mean just look at Transformers with the predacons, insectacons, and the dinobots and that's just a handful not including multiple other games that make robotic animals in other games that don't look like horizons the design in this game are 100% inspired and ripped off horizon especially when the machines have that WHITE METAL PLATEING
@Sleepless_HeroChan I have played and beat both horizon games and for the record I agree. I just don't think it's that bad. Am I right? No. But there it is. I want to play good to great games. The more Korean makers try to copy, hopefully that will make horizon game makers make an absolute banger for their next game to show them. Like " copy me, how cute" while selling fifty million copies. At the end of the day THAT'S what will make them stop. American lawyer can't do squat to Korea or China. Honestly if this game comes out and I see more of the story and gameplay and I like it I will buy it. Till the next horizon game is out, which is probably years away. Bottom line is clones were going to happen, fate was sealed with horizon's success. Like dark souls and the millions of Mario clones. Anyway thanks for engaging with me. And once again you are right.
The sad part is that they have such an enormous market that is over regulated to the point outside properties like HZD never get there. so their populace doesn't know any better because the games aren't there and Chinese Google is controlled by the government so it's not like they could look it up either
As much as I want to agree with the intro I have to say that everything is a copy of everything else. If it's an improvement then who cares - I'm lookin to play better games.
I know this is bait, but you should play Horizon! It's a good game, with great feeling combat. It even has i-frames on the dodge roll! And the story/lore is fantastic, very unique. Try it!
@Preohhh I played both of them and the DLCs. I think they're good games, but certain elements about the story and gameplay keep it from being "great." It's the Avatar of video games - technically impressive and interesting, but it won't ultimately be that culturally significant. "I-frames on the dodge roll" is the most hilarious pitch I've ever gotten for a game 🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂 I'm quoting that from now on
@@St4rTr3v1Ut10n You could have just commented this instead of the bait lol. I get you though! I said the i-frame thing because I feel like these kind of bait comments come from "the other side" which is Elden Ring fans (which is a ridiculous head-to-head, I dont know why it exists, I personally love both games). And it took me a while to realize that the roll in Horizon has I frames. idk if it was common knowledge or not but took me by surprise for sure. Thanks for a civil discussion despite the initial bait!
I remember when video game characters used to be role models for people to look up to. Nowadays everything became a pseudo-ideologic marketing symbol, because managers take the outcry of the loud minority on Twitter and Reddit too serious. I'm sure characters like Lara Croft, Tifa Lockhart, Bayonetta and Chun Li have inspired a generation of girls more than the Star Wars Broom, Nikocado's Ginger sister, Forspoken girl etc.
@@hyperturbotechnomike idk man, hard to say yet. You are comparing old characters to new ones, so its impossible to tell if the new ones will have an impact. Can you give examples of _how_ the 3 protagonists you mentioned are "pseudo-ideologic marketing symbols"? In what way are they being/doing that? (optional hard mode: don't use the words "woman" or "lgbt") Just out of curiosity, have you played Horizon? If not, you should give it a try. Fantastic combat with good difficulty scaling, an original and unique story and lore, great music and sound design, beautiful graphics and world design. It's just overall a really good game, if you're able to look past the main character's appearance. I'm also curious, have you had a conversation with any women about this topic, or are you just guessing?
Video mentions the ghost from destiny, which is what it seems like they were copying. It looks exactly like it. And since ghosts have different skins in the game, you could even have plugged the robot in this game into destiny and you would not be able to tell the difference.
Not sure why all the negativity. I likely won't play it just like I haven't played any game you compared it to but it doesn't look bad. The combat looks just like the clumsy looking monster hunter combat videos I've seen.
This LOOKS like a straight upgrade from Horizon. Not only does it have loads of extra features, but a much more attractive protagonist. ASSUMING they pull it off (it isn't shovelware) I would totally buy it at full price. After the travesties of Horizon 2 and DA Veilguard, as a consumer desperate for content that's actually marketed to me, I would hope more "ripoffs" happen.
it also has the first descendant filter applied. all the dialogue that was in it was the same gibberish in that game. "five times i've erased you, and yet, you won't silence up." "How much more resurgence do you need?"
ngl looks cooler than horizon to me.. horizon is super unappealing and overrated imo. i will say the unedited gameplay looks kinda like palworld slop also. im not gonna draw any conclusions yet cus i really liked monster hunter and palworld. keeping an eye on it.

If it's set to be released on Playstation as Luke said, wouldn't that mean that Sony's already approved of this? Unless the developers got ahead of themselves by announcing this prior to getting approval from Sony.

this Could be pretty fun yeah I'll try it for sure. and yes companies shouldn't own ideas and sony even approved this game being on playstation so they're not bothered by it which is a huge difference from what Nintendo does. but you can't deny this goes beyond similarity it's a female mc in a green post apocalyptic world with robot dinosaurs and tribalistic themes like they pretty much copied the whole aesthetic and some robots look straight up copied from Horizon. again i don't think it should be sued or anything but there's no denying their heavily inspired and sometimes copied aesthetic and themes of horizon.

China treats copyright infringement like they treat other countries' territorial waters: _"It's free real-estate."_
As far as I'm aware, their government incentivises making "foreign" things Chinese. They grant contracts to companies just to steal other countries' inventions.
Funny, isn't free real estate the western imperialist dogma?
I see my comment critical of China immediately got deleted by YT.
Tldr, It pays its companies to copy others' products because they are not a free market.
worse is if you try to do the same to China, they will sue you. lmao. "What's yours is ours as well, but what's ours is ours only"
And that is based.
As long as it's their code, that's an efficient way to do it.

These stuff are textbook examples of the Chinese copy stereotype...
Who cares if it’s fun though.
No, that's a terrible comparison cus cars and tracks exist in the real world
First of all, thats not how intellectual property works, you cant just copyright real life objects. Second of all, Nintendo is in fact still sueing Palworld for their use of Palspheres and if their track record (100 % of cases won in Japan) is anything to go off of their lawyers have a decent chance at succeeding.

Dude, its what CN does. First time?
It's like the Day Before. It's a scam which is just a Frankenstein of other games' ideas and assets.

I just wish they allowed their art team to cook their own designs. "Hey, let's do our own thing."
Taking game design aspects is one thing but copying the whole art bible of another studios is something else. No matter its a rip off on the art stuff through and through.
@@Bro-dot- So the entire history of art?
@ Nope, buddy the stuff you see in games is technically design not art, it has intent, extensive rule guides and concise logic it’s not about expression like traditional art.
Game art falls under the category of art design but this is entire different to a painting in a museum or fan art. Copying a design is way more intentional, than being inspired by an artist. There is style and then design intent. It’s bad faith or just ignorance to say this is just following the history of art.
If this was fan art and etc then fine but different rules apply to concept artists.

- Buildings either from Halo Forerunners or Ark Survival Evolved/Ascended

Youre actually correct, what make people bat shit crazy is its the horizon dawn title being copied a big title.

And how many different ways can you make a robot animal where it doesn't look alike? It didn't seem to fight the same.
@quannernoble4505 pokemon is suing not because of similarities but because of a patent infringement cus pokemon patent the Pokeball mechanic
The nemesis system is a patent thing. it's the reason no other game can even try to copy or use the idea of the mechanics
And it's never a good thing for games to be copied its alright to pay homage to a game by adding references and maybe makeing design look similar to another game but to blatantly copy a game and say its your own original idea isn't ok and never will be just because you add a few tweaks doesn't mean it's different or original
And I've played both horizon Zero Dawn and Forbidden west they are not only copying the designs of the machines but the gameplay is also alike to Monster Hunter which I don't mind that being that there was another game series called god eater and is a monster hunter clone but the difference was it had its own ideas and mechanics that made it different
but the way the machines fight other then the gravity thing that the bull machine does it just screams horizon and the design looks just like the designs of horizon the white metal plating the different elements that some machines can use I mean the second machine they show fighting is a crap that can shoot out ice from its backside there are multiple ways you can make a robotic animal I mean just look at Transformers with the predacons, insectacons, and the dinobots and that's just a handful not including multiple other games that make robotic animals in other games that don't look like horizons the design in this game are 100% inspired and ripped off horizon especially when the machines have that WHITE METAL PLATEING

Dont be mad that this game will be better than Horizon Zero Dawn
Funny enough, Sony just announced om their official chanels since its coming for PS5
I don't care what anyone else says, this shit look 100x better than Horizon.
Brilliant. Asians will make the games Americans make but without the woke garbage 🤪🤪
I find Horizon boring
it also has the first descendant filter applied. all the dialogue that was in it was the same gibberish in that game. "five times i've erased you, and yet, you won't silence up." "How much more resurgence do you need?"
Sony won't sue Tencent...
I bet the characters and storyline are more intriguing than horizon though!!!
ngl looks cooler than horizon to me.. horizon is super unappealing and overrated imo. i will say the unedited gameplay looks kinda like palworld slop also. im not gonna draw any conclusions yet cus i really liked monster hunter and palworld. keeping an eye on it.
