    The biggest problem I have with the crown store is how predatory it is to new players. People already commented how easy it is to get a vampire or werewolf bite for free in game if you just know where or think to ask. And there are plenty of things overpriced for how easy they are to get for free. I tell most people that are interested to avoid buying crowns and if they enjoy the game to just sub for all the DLC content and the craft bag since they give you $15 worth of crowns with each monthly sub. Then you can blow your crowns on whatever or save it up for something actually useful like a banker or merchant or DLC areas you want to have always available.
    I've played subscription based games before and I enjoy ESO enough to treat it like one cuz I find it nearly unplayable otherwise. I'm with you on removing key features to make premium being some bullshit.

    • @KartalinESO
      @KartalinESO Год назад +23

      Underrated comment. Honestly there's so much you can find in the game for no additional real money/crowns. Buying the first pack upgrade (let alone any, though the price does scale up) is just painful to watch because it's like 800 gold from the npc pack merchant. 800 gold is a pittance in this game, even if you're relatively new. The big January login reward (like 20 days of logging in daily) was 100,000 gold. Players are generally helpful in zone chat if they don't think you're trolling, minus the occasional number of people that will troll you. But 99.99% of players will tell you how to avoid the crown store if there is a way around it, because we all know it's terrible.
      For context I've played and subscribed since the 2014 launch.

    • @immatoll4375
      @immatoll4375 Год назад +9

      I do not really understand why anyone ever should buy crowns before looking into the game (or store). It takes 10 minutes to realize that the store is mostly optional and more like a "reward system" for the ESO+ subscription model. ESO is a subscription based game with a big extended "trial". But you can theoretically play the trial even endlessly because of the more horizontal focussed progression + champion/paragon system. And if you want to play the game only for the base game, dungeons, veteran base dungeons / raids and all the story from the 3 alliances... damn this all will take 300-1000 hours alone if you are a real TES player and enjoy the dialogues etc.

Most of the houses that are always in the crown store can be bought with gold. And for the housing, you can place your mounts and pets like furnishings, and even set them on paths to walk around your house. And you can make a dock with furnishings yourself down in the ocean. The vampirism and lycanthropy both can be given for free by other players. There no P2W parts to the crown store, it's either pay for convenience or cosmetic.
    Though you spending crowns on many of these things show how the crown store is predatory towards people who don't know better.

      For real, it doesn't even feel like elder scrolls, it feels like mobile game levels of shading, lore dumps, mob AI. I have a friend and we used to play the Neverwinter MMO, we played through ESO together for about 2 months and it was just sooo bland, we had more fun on the community made quests in Neverwinter than we did in ESO, didn't have to spend money on Neverwinter to have fun🤷‍♂️

      @@LadyAsteria58 agreed I find eso the best elder scrolls game since morrowind. It has the best lore and writing since tes 3. I think people who don’t like aren’t true elder scrolls fans becuase it’s so rich with lore it’s amazing. People act like zos has a gun to their head making them pay for in game items lol it’s all optional you don’t need to buy any of those things its extra
      If you don’t want it don’t buy it you can play without it.

      @@jigglypuff3311 sounds like you aren’t a real elder scrolls fan if you are upset over “lore dumps”
      Considering it had the deepest and richest lore since morrowind. Skyrim was a drip in the bucket compared
      To eso in the lore dept.

    Honestly in my own opinion the best thing you can buy is the helper followers, yeah they do everything that's already free in game but I like being able to stop mid-whatever and sell, decon, fence, and then put the rest in my bank. There's a few other things less gratifying that I bought too but I believe the followers really helped enhance my experience, I also got them all over a span of like 2 years so I don't feel like I dumped to much to fast and have got their worth out of it.

    I just really wish I could buy out the crafting bag. I've already gotten one of each of the assistants and the occasional 2-3 crates. I've never once got a mount, I think the Order of the Hour motif was the best thing I got..
    At least I got my roostertail fins from the Storm crates, it's like the only decent argonian "hair" locked behind a lootbox that never shows.
    I love the game quests and combat, I've played it a long time, and I've probably spent way too much for a casual/dedicated player. After having plus so long, it's really hard to keep myself off of it and now I have to steadily change my way of playing and whittle down my bank space. It's crazy how after so many years we haven't had any further space expansion for how many new gear and shite that have been added.
    I just hate most everything like mount and character level are seperate like at least keep me from doing 180 upgrades per characters.

    ESO I only spend money on what I want outside of monthly. If you spend it just to see if its worth it, its a bad time all around. I enjoy the game, but any helpful items in the cash shop are traps (You get em for free all the time), and the motifs, and houses, most of them you can get in game.
    PS: You can earn crown crate stuff by doing daily endeavors. And furniture, 99% of it is in game. Another trap for newbies. Inventory capacity? It costs almost nothing in gold to do so. Just a waste of crowns and another trap.

    GW2 has pretty non-predatory monetization, no sub, no pay to win, easy to reach max gear that doesn't depreciate every time a patch comes out and raises the ceiling.
    Also the camel has a spit command and is therefore the best mount in ESO and a worthwhile buy.
