I will say that high power lenses, because the target looks closer to your eye, you get a finer aiming point and therefore might see a bit more wobble if you're just getting into it and aren't sure about your form. Personally, I started with a 4 power lens and I am perfectly alright so far with shooting, it gives me a bit of comfort that the target looks bigger and I can relax a bit, and if I use a big dot I don't see any wobble. That changes however if you go to a 6, or an 8 power. 1st, you might need a clarifier, and if you're in rainy and foggy conditions good luck trying to not have that thing fog up. Clarifiers come in many powers, but if you choose to use one, you need to change a peep sight to a threaded peep sight with adjustable apertures like ones that Specialty and Hamskea offer, which will cost some more cash. Some people can go without a clarifier for a 6 power, but it's better to be safe than sorry. Hope this helps some of you!
When I shot 3D archery years ago I used a 8 power lens and it helped me out. Great video. Great reason for why you use a high powered scope. Thanks for sharing it with us.
I read a question about size clarifier. You’ll need a red #3. With that you’ll have to adjust the peep size depending on the distance to eye-to-lens. I’ve been using an 8X for 5 years coming from a 6X. It takes quite awhile to get use the the movement. Don’t quit after a few days. It took me about 3-4 months to really feel good about it. I’ve broken 3 USAA Nationals records with the 8X. If you can handle the mental movement after a couple of months, go further with the 8X. It’ll pay off.
Not everyone needs a three it is based off of their eyes. Tate can clear up an 8 with a 1 or a 1.5. That’s like saying everyone would need the same prescription glasses. It’s something everyone has to test. And peep size drastically changes the target clarity as well. The smaller peep you go the clearer it gets. Tate can get this clear with a 3/32 where I have to shoot a 3/64 to get the same clarity. So again it’s all based on eyesight :)

Hi Paige. I like what you are saying about the higher lens but until I get an steadier aim I would be sea sick all the time. I will try your wrist technique for an steadier aim. Thanks again. 🏹🤠👍
I've seen people that use the high power lenses sometimes hit the target to the left or right of theirs and getting a miss even though it's a 10 in somebody else's target.
I float a little bit but it always centers when I breathe. I think that is why i do archery, that process. I'm not just centering my pin, I'm centering myself. I want to get on a hinge but I think ill just practice BT more with my index for now.
Hello Mrs Pearce. Again thank you for your info. As you said, indeed a high power lens is not suited for all :) I have however two other questions. You talked about target and 3D on regards of lens power but also sight picture and scope size. What about Field where you need the clear view for measuring the target-distance - and thus rather a 6 power or matbe 8-power lens... while still being able to fit the whole target in the scope? Also a large size scope might help ... but how do you manage to still being able to lign out the peep with the scope (of you barely can see the sides or outer ring of the scope as it is big) Thanks in advance for your advice AND time!
Here again, I fully agree and think that I am in your team of big magnifiers. I like to have a big picture and a big yellow taking all the space on my sight. One question though, do you use clarifiers in order to still see the fiber correctly? In the positive, would you please share the clarifier # that you use? many thanks Paige, Cheers.
yup, I prefer a giant target too, and so far I have a 6x lens - the target does look blurry but, not that bad that prevents me from executing my shot. I'll try a 8x soon! .. I hope it won't be way too blurry.

Paige, Great video. As I get older it's harder for me to focus on both the pin and the target. Will a magnifying lense help me with this problem? or is there something else you could suggest? Thx.
Paige, what clarifier do you use on a 9 or 10x lens? I have a #3 red Specialty Archery clarifier, but it does not clean up the target face. I also have a Hamskea Peep setup I will try the D lens. I shot a few lanes away from you in Lancaster this past week or so ago on the Practice range upstairs and in the back on the astroturf range and was amazed with how great you were with each and every one that approached you. Pin Glare is a result of the Sunlight on your scope, so use a sun shade on your scope, front and back. Pin Starburst is from the pin fiber getting too much Sun and being too bright. Adjust the rheostat cover on pin fiber housing or install a light kit that allows you to adjust the brightness of your pins.
Hi, always like you videos and to follow you on the international scene. Im new to archery. What do you recommand for 50M outdoor shooting. Magification strengh and size of scope? What kind of dot color or size also please??? What is the best scope to buy?
I would recommend looking into a shrewd scope. Maybe the 29mm. And lens magnification is a personal preference but most people start with a 4 or a 6x. I shoot an 8 but I wouldn’t recommend that for most people. And you can just use a black dot, or you can use a fiber bit you can’t use a light so probably a green fiber. And that is also personal preference on how much of the target you want the aiming reticle to cover. And the more lens magnification the less size the pin will cover obviously so that’s all completely personal preference :)
Is it easier to aim with a small dot or big one. Witch one is more precise.? (Kind of) i hearing all kink of info on this subject. Some people cover all the 9 ring with there dot???
Thanks Paige. I’ve always shot 4 x for 3d and indoor and 6x outdoor. I will try more power for spots and see how, well I get on. I find a 80cm face way small with 4x outside, so maybe 8 will be better than 6x?

@@PaigePearceinsight a 3/64 how much is that in mm ? And I don't understand what you trying to explain with number 2 and 3. I guess that you in the States got much more lenses and clarifiers . So usually even if your eyes focus on the target you will still see your pin movement. So it just depends on the person. It’s easier to aim with an 8 power at distance and see exactly where you are.. when I aim with my hunting bow my pin covers a lot of the paper plate at the farther distances and you can only be as precise as you can aim. So that’s the one downfall in my opinion with my hunting set up but that’s just how it goes 🤷🏼♀️
I got target panic thinking about 9 power lols.
I thought lenses are illegal for World Archery competitions!
Nope… electronics are illegal. Lenses are definitely legal lol
