What this shows is the not only do you have to know how to play music, but SOUND CHOICE is very important. He obviously can play all the parts but sound choices is what makes Disclosure's original track sound so good
I listened to the track because of a FB posting by Danny. J Lewis demonstrating the power of social networking. It's a great track and your deconstruction is amazing. Respect your talent Ski. Cheers! Aka diDprojects
I've tried pulling this track apart in my head while on the road listening to it on the radio. Hugely talented lads, and just as talented strip of the track by yourself. Thank you for your work!
whats that program that enables you to see the chords on the screen,i know of Midiculous software by jamal hartwell..which one are you using, thnks in advance.
ski you rock!i love thesse series. could you also do a deconstruction of one of the first techhouse tracks called klik klak - sax clubbin? think it was released 1992 i love the break in it and the bassine.
Could we get any info on the preset for the strings? or a similar patch that is built into ableton? I've been trying to find that classic strings sound but have failed to find it so far!
Is there a significance in the pitch bending of the minor 9th chords up and down a minor third? It seems that the key signature/mode changes from the F Aeolian, to A flat Dorian. The only connection that comes to mind is the relative major of F is A flat, but Dorian is a minor mode. So maybe the relative major changes to the parallel A flat minor, then raises the 6th to make Dorian? ...I want to understand everything in theory....that's a weakness of mine, because I always get frustrated.
Ski, what about deadmau5? The Veldt would be a goo one, with the drums at the start and the lovely long chords and all... And also just because I love it ;)
***** Would it be possible to put the ableton file in a download link like you did with the latch track? It was really helpful for me to get deeper into the track. cheers
You are great sir,Keep it going,Will check out that section on PB...what rhodes piano are you using there? are you recording straight from a mark1 or you are using a vst libry for the e-piano/rhodes ,
B flat minor rather. Also, I'm pretty sure that what he calls the bass and lead seperately are actually one synth. The highs that you hear at the beginning are the formants of the bassline with the sub highpassed out. Pretty sure, might be wrong.
***** Hi Ski! Thanks so much for the wonderful video! I was wondering if you could possibly share a little more insight into the sound design elements? Even if they were made in Logic, if perhaps you can get us close to the lead and bass sounds, it'd be fantastic!
No, it is easy tho. This is basic producer sh#t right here, to analyze song is something that you do pretty often when you want to get to a new level. I am kind of disappointed here, because I thought he may go into some sounddesign type of stuff here, but he just analyzed the song very sparse. BTW, this is bullshit, dont spend money on shit like that, analyze song by yourself because thats how you ACTUALLY learn something.
Loving the video, but the company - Ableton - would call it "Live 9", not "ableton 9". Just a bit of a pet peeve, really. And damn, I wish I had your ear for sussing harmonies.
I don't think he did. He just programmed the beat again using similar samples. Most of them are pretty classic drum machine sounds etc so you should be able to find them in almost any proper drum sample pack.

Ableton's Blog brought me here, Ski's breakdown convinced me to subscribe!
Really good job Ski - Hottest Track of the moment deconstructed really well..
The keyboard is a Novation Impulse 61.
Can you show how made the lead synth and the bassline synth?
Can someone tell me how he isolated the drums? Would love to be able to do that.
would you do a deconstruction of FaltyDL- Brazil or She Sleeps? i dont get it how to do his drum
This is everything I ever wanted.
Thanks Ski! Exactly what I was looking for!
what is that virtual piano keyboard you used???
whats that program that enables you to see the chords on the screen,i know of Midiculous software by jamal hartwell..which one are you using, thnks in advance.

Thanks for this, nice, clear and fast.
How did he just immediately drop the exact beat into a 909? It automatically sets everything to three sounds, not all the rims and high hats and such.
How to make that kind of pad on FL studio (or in sylent)
anyone can explain me you he did the pads?
What have you done for the pad? Sounds great.
Wow,It really means a lot to me,Many thanks my brother,Blessings.

Can you deconstruct Mount Kimbie "Made To Stray"?

are you using a string synth thats built into live 9? sounds real noice.
great deconstruct Ski!
wonderful job, Ski!
I'm a bit confused, so the track's in the key of Bb minor, with a lead line played a 5th above (F minor)?
whats the name of the track at 0.04 - 0.20 and a bit later too? cheers!
2:31 to 2:35... That was awesome. Can't wait until I can to that!

What exactly do you think the producer used for the lead sound @ 3:21??? It sounds like a xylophone!

What about the mastering?
great job! i was wondering, can we still make sugestions of tracks ? if so, how ?
Huge fan of these videos. Any chance you could deconstruct Hermitude - Hyperparadise (FLUME remix)? Keep doing what youre doing!
Great idea!!
Are disclosure annoyed at this? decent deconstruction! Thanks.
Hi Ski, what exactly did you do to those presets because I'm having trouble making mine sound exactly like yours?
omg can't wait for 9. lovely breakdown too :)
Ski can you deconstruct Todd Terje - Inspector Norse
MInd doing Celsius - Holding On?
A true master!
oh man... that would be awesome!!
Ski maybe you could deconstruct Underworld - Rez ? Love your videos man!
Is he using any particular synths or is he setting the operator to create those particular sounds?
Genius!! Thank You!
How do you do the string sound? Anyone?
get a string synth or a string sampler and play a note...
B flat minor rather. Also, I'm pretty sure that what he calls the bass and lead seperately are actually one synth. The highs that you hear at the beginning are the formants of the bassline with the sub highpassed out. Pretty sure, might be wrong.
Love Point Blank, what keyboard do you use?
Thats what i was hoping as well
What is the track that is playing at the end of the video? the one during the promotional? sounds lovely!
its a great track!!!
Ski could you deconstruct: Miguel - Do You... (Cashmere Cat Remix)?
what keyboard are you using? the keys look nice :L
Guys, I don’t get why there is a A minor chord?? Shouldn’t the 3rd have to be major??

I'd love to see a Siriusmo breakdown!
please its just simple 5ths , basic music theory was put into this track with a touch of class by producers, simple really
Good choice!!
This guy makes making music so easy...

Fahrrad agreed
should have included the als! Why not?!
Can anybody do this in Logic please
blaiavia it the same haha it’s the same midi
nice!

Burial & Four Tet - Nova
Fucking amazing. Thank you!
*haha*fastest remake ever!
This is in B minor, not F minor. If you listen to when the bass actually kicks in, the root is a B.
This is a great track, but I'd hardly call is a 'classic', it's pretty stonkin new.
It is now
haven't even heard the actual track yet lol
What's with calling songs that haven't been out for very long being called classics?
Snatch of bass!
Please, stop changing camera angle to where he looks like he's talking to himself. It's annyoing and akward.
