Yeh, choice of sounds is key, understanding where everything sits in the range from 20Hz to 20kHz helps. This comes with experience - which can of course be accelerated by learning at schools like this one.
Question & I'd be forever thankful towards an answer. Most tutorials & master classes tell u the same thing "It's all about getting your samples and sounds 2 Gel", this track seems 2 be a classic example of that. What I mean is u can spend hours on end trying 2 fit the jigsaw only to wake up the next morning, return to the studio and it's rubbish! This video shows the key stems are in, what chords, what arrangement but no EQ? apart from the cutoff's Is this because the samples gel from the start
DEVolution - My Friends, please! Also, don't stop making these videos... They're great (and would be even better if you focused more in the sound design but, anyway, still pretty good :) )
5:49 is doing my head in! Posted a year ago on the full song link, as that synth stab is a sample from a disco/dance track but for the life of me, I cannot place it! Sounding like a track from the Prelude label early 80's. Any ideas? Anyone?
choosing samples that work together well from the start is probably the biggest priority. you shouldn't be trying to heavily EQ all your parts to try to get them to fit if they're not working kind of well from the start. no producer does that.
