Wow! You have no idea how much you've set my "nerves" at ease! This will be our first year home schooling in the fall. I've literally been going through so many curriculums and unit studies and I still had no idea where to start. This will at the very least get me to a starting point! It's always important to have a plan but I had no clue we where to even begin. Thank you so much! God bless you!
Just found this! This will be our 8th year homeschooler, and I didn't realize that I've just been surviving, especially with the planning part. Ugh. It's been my yearly struggle. This helps me SO SO much, especially with now homeschooling five kiddos. I really appreciate the time you've spent to explain this, and for providing it for free. I wish I could hug you! Lol
Megan, I have been homeschooling my 3 daughters for a total of 16 years so far and have used many different schedules over the years. I am very impressed and thankful for your talent to organize everything! Your plans are simplistic, yet very detailed, and I can't wait to get started with my planning for daughter #3 this year! Thank you so much for sharing!
Oh my goodness, what an amazing compliment from a veteran homeschooling mama! Thank you so much! :) I'm glad you found something that was helpful for you!
I literally get soooo happy when I see that you’ve posted a video! I follow dozens and dozens of youtubers with varying interests and topics but your channel is literally the ONLY one I set the notification bell “on” for! Thank you so much! Would love to see even more videos of your homeschooling organization and days!
Homeschooling Newbie Awww... you're too sweet! I'm so glad you are enjoying the videos. I'm trying to be more consistent, so hopefully you'll be seeing more of me! 😊
Thank you SO much for giving us such a great planning guide!!! 2019-2020 will be our first year of homeschooling and I've got everything figured out minus trying to figure out our planning! This is so much better than trying to scribble everything in a notebook!
This is sooooo helpful!! We are planning to homeschool starting this fall.. public school has been a nightmare. I was planning to use a boxed curriculum that had lessons already planned, but feel like God is leading me in a different direction, which means I’ll need to plan lessons myself. Truth be told, I’ve been kind of stressing about planning them, but this makes is seem so simple. Thank you so much for sharing this information!!
I come back to your videos time and time again bc you are so helpful and organized. I still use your children's planner pages with my kids! They are the very best!
This is a goldmine for new homeschool moms. Thank you so much for sharing your wealth of information. My littles love to learn and are easy to teach, so my biggest concern has been my own ability to keep it structured and organize everything on my end. You're a blessing!
My mission for today was to get a handle on planning for our 4 kids going back in September. First thing, around 5.30am I saw a video which lasted 40 mins, there was literally hundreds of pages worth of booklets and forms and charts. My head was scrambled! I'm so glad I found this video 😊 I have my mojo now, thank you x
Thank you for being so generous with your talent. I am not very organized and I am overwhelmed on a lockdown unprepared for 2021. What lingers is "fail to plan is plan to fail." I did not know where to start. But thank you really. Your resources helped me a lot lot. Virtual hugs
Thanks for sharing. With so many irons in the fire, I have not been able to get the grasp I'd like to have on homeschool organization. This is a godsend. From another Iowan homeschooling mother.
Hello fellow Iowa homeschooler! We are IPI too! Love the freedom and flexibility. Thanks for posting planning videos! I’ve been homeschooling for about 6 years now, but I feel like I needed a refresher this year. We do 6 weeks on, one week off through the whole calendar year. Year round is so nice! The kids benefit so much from it. Sometimes we take more than a week off and make adjustments on the other end. Anyway, nice to meet you!
Hey! Just wanted to drop a note of encouragement....your videos have been super helpful for me. I'm a mom from Virginia, homeschooling 2 kids - daughter 4 yrs old, and son 6 yrs old. It's definitely a journey, and I'm in it for the long haul, but I don't want to reinvent the wheel every year. So nice to have insight on planning and curriculum! Thanks!
Thanks for the encouragement Mallory! I really enjoy sharing with other homeschool moms... no one should reinvent the wheel if they don't have to! Thanks for watching!
Thank you so much. I have just started with 3 kids - y7, y4, y3 and one to go soon (reception now). I hope it will be very handy on the begining. I need something for a start and then build it up in a way that suits me and my family best.
Thank you SO MUCH for this! This next year is our first year homeschooling and I have been so overwhelmed! This video just helped to take a ton of weight off my shoulders and gave me an amazing place to start! I’m excited to start schooling our kids this June!
Preparing for my first year of homeschooling and I AM AFRAID FOR MY LIFE (LOL). Thanks for this video, you literally calmed my anxiety down regarding the planning part. I am still searching for the right curriculum/ program for my rising 6th grader but you really made it a lot easier for me, thanks a bunch!
This is awesome!!!! I just used your printables to plan our upcoming school year (we school year round) - so simple and still flexible. I went ahead and typed up the weekly plans for all 36 weeks and then had them bound at Office Depot - hopefully I can stay on track 😂
Wow! This is great! I used the year at a glance from your old video and worked so well for me 2017-2018 school year it helped me soo much to stay on track! I love planning my school year and you have made it easy for me!! Thanks for all of your videos!!
Thank you so much for sharing all of your documents. They take a lot of work putting them together. I’m so grateful! I also use a crate system and find that your documents help me stay organized.... and they’re so pretty!!! So thank you, thank you! I nearly finished my first semester of homeschool with my kindergartener. I felt scatter brained all the time. Trying to find everything for the lessons, what lessons we were on.....with your docs and the crate system, my days have been going so much smoother! Everything is in one spot. I love it! Question.... do you print a copy of your child’s schedules for your teacher binder so you can see what their checklists look like? I have all my daughters checklists made for next semester, but was thinking of copying them 2 to a page and putting them in my binder to reference easily for my sake.
I just want to say THANK YOU for this video!!! I was feeling a little overwhelmed with where to start planning and you just made it soo easy for me to get started. I'm almost done :)
Thanks for the video! I started to do your year at a glance last year and I really think I need to do it this year to see if I can do the curriculum I want to do!
THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!! Love your videos! We are also implementing TG&TB in our homeschool. I’ve tried the Language Arts and History, but my son did not like the style so we went back to what we were using before (BJU, AAS, AAR, & BeautifulFeet) but we are loving the science units!
Doubleblueapples You are welcome! I'm so glad it is helpful for you! We are loving the science too. I'm so excited to add history for next year... hopefully it's something we can stick with! 😊
I'm SO glad it was helpful for you! I will be updating the blog with new calendars... it's on my to do list for next week, so hopefully I can stick to that!
Hi! Check on this page... homeschool101.wordpress.com/printables/ The Weekly Checklist is in color now, but if you download the Excel document, there are several tabs with different options.
I love how your mind works and it gives this first time homeschooling mama so much direction! Thank you so much! I’ve seen your other individual videos for each of these documents, but do you have something showing how you do the year at a glance using the Good and the Beautiful? My daughter will be doing language Arts, level 1.
Thanks so much for all of the spreadsheets. I have modified them to use for our family! We are first year homeschoolers with kids in 3 different levels, (11th, 8th, and 2nd) How do you track grades? Thanks!
Feather Webb Yeah! I hope they work great for you! I don't track grades for 2 reasons... 1) My state doesn't require any reporting with the option I school under 😊 and 2) We work on something until it's mastered, and my kiddos are still early elementary age. For older kids, I might want a way to track their progress and provide them feedback, but I honestly have no idea how that would look. Sorry, that's not very helpful! 😒
Haha okay... just found you today. Love the forms so I’ve been watching all of your videos. I’m also a former PS teacher. Then I turned on this video and ... I’m also a former FCS teacher 😂. Ok. That gave me my daily kick. Lol thanks..
That's so cool! People usually look at me like I have 2 heads when I say FCS.🤣 Welcome to the homeschool club... there's a lot of former teachers here!
Thank you 🙏🏻 I love your organization and planning. You helped me so much already. This is exactly what I had in mind but i was having trouble planning, I’ve spend a lot of time taking notes and trying to plan, then I gave up and found you. God bless you 🙏🏻 May I ask you if you know a website where I can find the good and the beautiful used curriculum for kindergarten?? I can’t find it and it’s a little expensive. Thank you 🙏🏻
Hi! I'm so glad it was helpful for you! :) Have to tried the Facebook group for TGTB? If you search TGTB Curriculum Marketplace, you should be able to find it. Stuff moves fast, but kinder comes up a lot!
Do you have any videos of your daily schedule? I saw on one video you had daily folders that the assignments go in. I was curious what your daily routine looks like.
Hi Megan, thank you so much for sharing all this great information with us!! I will be homeschooling for the first time in the end of August. I am not a planner, so this helps me a lot! I was wondering which site you used to create this document. I know you have one on your blog, but it says 2017-2018. Thanks again!💓
Oh! The calendar? The base calendar is from Calendarpedia. I use Template 6 and then just adjust it for my personal liking. (I really need to get that video done...) Here's the calendarpedia link in the mean time... www.calendarpedia.com/split-year-2018-2019-calendar-excel-templates.html Gool luck next year! It's the best hardest job ever! :)
I know you said that you wanted to give credit where it is deserved, but I don't know if I can wait to find out where you got that calendar :-) I found a few, but none that I can get to work right :-( Thanks for sharing!! I feel so much more confident that I can do this now!
I don't want to leave you hanging! :) It's from calendarpedia.com. I use Template 6 and then modify as shown above. The link is www.calendarpedia.com/split-year-2018-2019-calendar-excel-templates.html. Hopefully this will get you started if you can't wait for the tutorial! :) I know I hate to wait... hopefully next week while we are on Spring Break I'll get some of these tutorials out! Hopefully...
Hey Megan quick question! Are you still planning to do the crate system? I tried one year and it made me feel super behind when we would get behind and then the weeks didn't add up :/ How do you work that when it happens?
I am planning on keeping the crate system next year, with some modifications. I'll be using it in the traditional sense for my son's Language Arts (Writing with Ease & First Language Lessons) and we'll use it for math and Bible and geography. I'm not going to include science and history since I know I'm more lax with those subjects. I will print their science activities for each unit and file them in the appropriate activity folder. (See here for science set up: ruclips.net/video/3rGLFpsIbRg/видео.html) For history, I will probably print a unit at a time and keep that in it's own folder. We've been lucky to not get behind on anything that was filed in our crate so I can't speak to that, but it is my biggest fear! :) Well... probably not biggest... :)
Hi Megan, You might have answered this question already but I was wondering, if you take 3 weeks off for your breaks, is it hard for your kids to start up with school again?
Alla Odushkin Hi Alla! I don't think it's too bad. 😊 Probably not any worse than a whole summer. 😜 I feel like it's just enough time to give them a little break without forgetting everything we've done. I'm always surprised at how refreshed everyone seems.
Totally off topic, BUT, I originally purchased AAS about a year ago. Since then found the good and the beautiful and I’m trying to decide if I want to just rely on that for my 1st grader or if I want to start All About Spelling along with The Good and the Beautiful?
Stefanie Weber We are going to try and just do TGTB. I'm not 100% convinced that it can stand alone for spelling, but we are going to try. If we are having trouble midway through the year next year, I might add AAS. I love the simplicity of TGTB and I really want it to stand alone. 😊
Hey Jen! Let me see if I can get it up on the blog quick! I usually just email it to people, but I've had lots asking. It's kinda quick and dirty, but it will keep you from starting at square one!
Hi how are you ,,, I’m tryin to dd it’ for the first time and I don’t know what to do ,,,,i need to figure a plan for second grade for my lil one can u please send me in the right direction
Amy Fitchett Hi Amy! I'm not 100% sure which video you are referring to, but this video pretty much sums up all my planning. I don't make a specific weekly planner for myself anymore. Let me know if you have more questions!
Megan Phillips it’s called weekly lesson plan on your blog. Also. I love your planning. I’ve spent hours watching trough videos and looking through websites and your is so simple and obvious. THANK YOU!
Amy Fitchett Oh! Of course! I know what you are talking about now.😊 I used that Weekly Lesson Plan for about a month or 6 weeks at the beginning of the school year last year when I had 2 school age kiddos for the first time. I wanted to make sure I didn't miss anything. 😜 Now, with the curriculum we are using, I don't really feel the need for it. As long as they check off their checklist, we are good.
@@monamashee hmmm... do you have Excel on your computer? Both of them seem to be working for me. If you can send me a message through the Contact Us page on my blog, I'll be happy to get you what you need directly! homeschool101.wordpress.com/contact/
That's a pretty loaded question! :) It depends on what kind of curriculum you want... religious or secular? Online or not? Digital or print? It's more important to figure out WHY you want to homeschool and WHAT you want your school day to look like.
Megan Phillips nevermind I got it going. You are a life saver!!!!! First year homeschooled and I have been sitting in front of my screen for days on end trying to figure out how to lesson plan and get a homeschool binder going for my sanity. Ty so much!!!
This is a goldmine for new homeschool moms. Thank you so much for sharing your wealth of information. My littles love to learn and are easy to teach, so my biggest concern has been my own ability to keep it structured and organize everything on my end. You're a blessing!

This is awesome!!!! I just used your printables to plan our upcoming school year (we school year round) - so simple and still flexible. I went ahead and typed up the weekly plans for all 36 weeks and then had them bound at Office Depot - hopefully I can stay on track 😂
Homeschool IRL how much did Home Depot charge for the 36 page book?
Michaela Goen I cant remember exactly, but I don’t think I have ever paid more than $10 for a bound book at Office Depot.
Best resource I've found yet! Thank you for your spread sheets and videos! 👏
You're so welcome!
the most helpful video about homeschool

We lived in Ottumwa last year. Miss it already! Now just got qualified to homeschool in Washington, but not sure where to start having 5 young ones 😱
Ottumwa is great... probably a lot different than Washington! Have you checked out Gather Round Homeschool? It's awesome with lots of littles!
You're awesome!!! I live in Iowa! Thanks so much 💕

These are some great tips! Thanks!
Just a heads up on your free printable 2019-2020 School Year Calendar, January 31 and February 1 both start on Friday.

Hopefully this will get you started if you can't wait for the tutorial! :) I know I hate to wait... hopefully next week while we are on Spring Break I'll get some of these tutorials out! Hopefully...
thank you so much! I know it's going to be pretty hectic to get things going, but you make it look so easy!! Thank you!
Where do you get your template for the calendar page you showed? I would love to have one for June - May, which is how our school year runs.
Goldmine. Simple ans functional
Hi Megan,
You might have answered this question already but I was wondering, if you take 3 weeks off for your breaks, is it hard for your kids to start up with school again?
Alla Odushkin Hi Alla! I don't think it's too bad. 😊 Probably not any worse than a whole summer. 😜 I feel like it's just enough time to give them a little break without forgetting everything we've done. I'm always surprised at how refreshed everyone seems.
For the weekly checklist, how do you use the daily boxes on the top?
It's just a weekly calendar, so I might add in a field trip, co-op, or choir. Just anything I want him to be aware of for the week.
Thank you for sharing🌺
Do you have the year at a glance for more than one child somewhere? You mentioned it in this video, but I don't seem to find it. Thanks!!!
Hey Jen! Let me see if I can get it up on the blog quick! I usually just email it to people, but I've had lots asking. It's kinda quick and dirty, but it will keep you from starting at square one!
Got it up! Check it out here...

Check out my Homeschool 101 Series, here on my channel. It will help walk you through a lot of the questions that beginning homeschoolers have.
Thank you!
You're welcome!
Thank you so much.
I noticed that in your last planning video you had a weekly list for yourself. Are you using that this year?
Megan Phillips good to know. That’s what I was thinking as well. Keep it simple.
Can you share where you got the calendar? Or do you have a 2019-2020 one?
Hey Kristin! I just uploaded the new 19-20 calendars on my blog!

Do you have the document for the year at a glance for more than one child you could share?
Courtney Livermon I just emailed you back! 😊
Can you provide links to the printables?
Everything can be found here:

How or where do I get wat to teach I’m soooo lost
That's a pretty loaded question! :) It depends on what kind of curriculum you want... religious or secular? Online or not? Digital or print? It's more important to figure out WHY you want to homeschool and WHAT you want your school day to look like.
Are you related to Jenny, TGTB founder?
Nope! Ironically my sister in law's name is Jenny Phillips (just not THAT Jenny Phillips) so it totally messes up my kids! :)
@@MeganPhillips ok that’s super funny and coincidental!!
when i try and use it it just keeps saying its in read mode only...
Hmmm... which document are you trying to access?
Megan Phillips nevermind I got it going. You are a life saver!!!!! First year homeschooled and I have been sitting in front of my screen for days on end trying to figure out how to lesson plan and get a homeschool binder going for my sanity. Ty so much!!!
This is a goldmine for new homeschool moms. Thank you so much for sharing your wealth of information. My littles love to learn and are easy to teach, so my biggest concern has been my own ability to keep it structured and organize everything on my end. You're a blessing!
Very helpful! Thank you for sharing your talent for planning with others☺
This is so helpful! Thank you!
You're so welcome!
