In House of the Dragon season 2, episode 5, and in House of the Dragon season 2, episode 6, as well as in the later episodes of season 2, many of the riderless dragons of Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen at Dragonstone will get their new riders, one of them being the wild dragon Sheepstealer, who will be claimed by Rhaena Targaryen.
Throughout season 2 of the Game of Thrones prequel series, House of the Dragon, Rhaena will finally claim a dragon, Sheepstealer.
Sheepstealer is a wild dragon, over 70 years old, never claimed before, with a taste for sheep, hence his name. Sheepstealer's coloring is described as "mud brown."
Rhaena will claim the wild dragon Sheepstealer during her stay in the Vale, replacing Nettles on the show, and seemingly George R.R. Martin is not happy about it.
In the later episodes of House of the Dragon season 2, Rhaena will claim the wild dragon Sheepstealer, so throughout season 2, Rhaenyra Targaryen will gain four new dragons and dragonriders: Hugh and the dragon Vermithor, Ulf and the dragon Silverwing, Addam and the dragon Seasmoke, and finally, Rhaena and the dragon Sheepstealer.

Aside from Rhaena and Sheepstealer, Rhaenyra giving dragonseeds some of the biggest dragons (Vermithor and Silverwing) is madness. Holy shit, giving random silver hairs an opportunity to ride Vermithor+ Silverwing after seeing what Vhagar did last episode is wild. You're basically just praying the people that end up on them are chill. Cuz Daemon is the only one who even has a chance in hell against one of those dragons if they turn cloak.

Sheepstealer has the coolest taming story of all dragons in history. I hope Rhaena like Nettles will claim him by brining him sheep every morning until he gets so used to her that he accepts her as his rider
Yeah that was the best part of Nettles, but honestly what would be the point of doing It like that? Rhaena already has valyrian blood.
They cut her off because of GRRM asking them, I am pretty sure. Nettles taming a dragon with no valyrian blood tells too much about the upcoming books.
In his latest post GRRM basically admitted that having valyrian blood Is not totally necessary to bond with a dragon, but that that and other things would be better explained in upcoming books.

I guess as a black girl I just hate that they cut out the only black character from the dance. nettles was so important to the story - even ignoring her role in the dance, she did go on to make the burned men…idk how rhaena is supposed to do that. not to mention george is angry about the cut. nettles was a favourite of his - considering he said if he could write a story about a character from the dance it would be nettles.

I LOVE the way they're showing us the bond between dragon and rider, it really showcased last episode with Rhaenys and Meleys. It seems to be on a spiritual level almost. I hope we see more of it.
Screw GRRM. I've been reading since 97 and if he wants to have my respect for his opinion, finish the book! I am fine with the changes so far. As far I'm concerned, if he had finished the books, we wouldn't have gotten a crap ending to GOT.

This decision is so stupid. Nettles was the only one that challenged the notion of so called targaryen supremacy and her relationship with daemon is one of the catalysts to rhaenyra losing her bearings. The writers for this show refuse to let rhaenyra do anything unlikable at all
I don't agree, Nettles challenge in the end didn't mean anything to anyone.Her claiming dragon didn't change people's perspective to the point that nobody remembers her in the war even after Daemon and Rhaenyra.Looking Daemon's time in Harrenhall makes absolutely sense to me that Nettles never had absolutely no power what Daemon's decisions will be, which is so Daemon thing.I never believed that someone could influence his decision facing Aemond himself.In his core it's always his relationship with Viserys and Rhaenyra that makes him to take an action not some peasant girl he knows for couple of months and decides that he will protect her from the bad queen who decides to punish people who betray her.True or not true having relationship with consort of monarch is treason and the punishment is death penalty.Period.

Go back to what was said about the book fire and blood.... written by meisters and accounts from a court Fool. Nothing in Fire and blood is purely accurate. the narratives are form 3 sources who were never there when it happened. So nettles not being in the show is understandable.
They're erasing everything that makes rhaenyra and daemon look bad and adding made up new illogical stuff just to make the greens look bad. It's just a fanfiction of rhaenyra's simps.

I get George's dismay, and as much as I love Fire & Blood, I think merging Nettles and Rhaena for the show was the smart choice.
But I hoped Nettles would save Daemon in the show, since she survived. In the Vale, she was seen again on the dragon and in the books, Daemon's body is never found. In GOT, there are the Brandlings in the Vale who tell of an old tradition of being burned. Supposedly, when this tradition began, there was a black witch in the mountains. Fan speculation believed that this could have been the surviving Nettles and Sheepstealer. This book story gave me hope for artistic freedom in the show to save Daemond.

Now she will also get Rhaena’s Sheepstealer, Addam’s Seasmoke, Hugh’s Vermithor and Ulf’s Silverwing. What are they waiting for to attack? Green’s really have only 1 dragon, Vhagar. Sunfyre is almost dead, Helaena’s Dremfyre is useless due to her rider. Whats the deal here?

No one outside of the current riders except Daemon has battle experience, while Joffery and Aegon's dragons are too small to take to battle, Aemond and Vhagar will cut most of them down without the Dragonseeds.

The fact that GRRM is pissed that Nettles was cut and hasn’t said anything about the shitty GOT seasons speaks a lot about her possible importance and relevance to GOT lore.
She’s a common girl who managed to tame a dragon despite possibly not even being related to Targaryens. I get the feeling this plot point might be relevant to what will happen with some of Dany’s dragons later down the line.
With all Rhaenyra’s new dragons and dragonriders I went from "let's go this will squash the greens" to "oh... I actually should have seen this coming" roller coaster real quick and I can't wait to see how and why on the show Hugh and Ulf betray Rhaenyra
Because Daemon will ask Rhaenyra to give lordship of huge states like Reach and Westerlands to Ulf and Hugh because of their epic victories against the green but Corlys (Hand of Queen will tell her not to do it) and she will listen to Corlys velaryon. This will be tge rurnibg point for betrayal against the Black Queen

Nettles was the catalyst of daemon essentially divorcing himself out of rhaneyra cause and the desire for the throne and moreover, Morning, rhaena's real dragon was one of the 4 surviving dragons in the ASOIAF including silverwing, cannibal, sheepstealer. According to the estimates, morning STILL lived during the era of GOT meaning she was supposedly the oldest dragon. Man i am really getting the D&D vibes but hopefully the show wont change TOO much from the books.

Hate to break it to you but a book and a tv show are two very different things. One can run on endless imagination while the other has to have a budget. Characters, arcs, events etc will get cut

I know things aren't possible to incorporate sometimes, & I never complain when a scene gets slightly altered. But completely removing a character, that's not a one off, feels SOOOO purposeless. Nettles actual has an arc with Daemon & slightly motivates him & future actions. So why remove someone like her ?
Sad thing is many of the changes were pointless ! They keep making changes to rhaenerya and Alicent to make them seem innocent of all wrong doing and this is done for no reason other then pushing an agenda ! I love the show , but these changes are getting annoying to me ! I’ve wanted the live action adaption of the dance so badly , and overall I love the show . But I cannot overlook the the things being pushed for agendas ! Even though we have grown use to this from Hollywood ! It doesn’t make it right or improve on the show !
I feel so bad for dragons man, Sunfyre's screams were gutwrenching and Meleys' death while looking one last time to Rhaenys was heartbreaking
They have aegons screams and laughter mixed in at human frequency in Sumfyres, thats why the dragons roars are piercing. Viserions roar after becoming a Wight has Viserys scream from the golden crown scene in it
Rhaena will get closer to her father to complete her arc.
And Daemon will take care of her and send her away from Harrenhal later on when he faces Vhagar and Aemond, saving her life, to complete his arc

Nah, I get it. Nettles is an extra character in the books who's only significance in the plot is that she got Sheepstealer and was later on Daemon's lover - and is then forced to flee once Rhaenyra orders her arrested for it. I think she's the weakest part of the Dragonseeds storyline and she really loses any significance after Daemon at the God's Eye. I don't mind the change as they'd have to set aside time for her character and it's already gotten to a point that the show has just enough for the other characters. Rhaena's right there and doing nothing - giving her a portion of Nettles' Dragonseed story is a good change and gives her more plot significance in the show.

@@user-ty3lt5sf4w There's no point delving into what happens after the Dance. Rhaena hatching morning has no major plot impact. Once the Dance storyline finishes, the show either time skips directly to the Blackfire Rebellion or pauses for a bit so the Dunk and Egg series takes the spotlight.
Tbh Rhaena isnt fit to replace Nettles. Rhaena is a graceful noble lady , her characteristics doesnt lead her claiming a dragon as wild as Sheepsteeler. Nettles on the other hand is a commoner and that though with unknown parentage and ancestry. She was a wild & bold girl and was brave enough to regularly feed a wild dragon . She participated in actual battles, got injured, recovered , helped in retaking Kingslanding and also was ready to face Vhagar with Daemon. Sad to see her cut from the series.
Besides Rhaena in the end of the war does have her own dragon Morning.
Plus Rhaena has a lot to do after the dance with Morning

So lemme get this straight,now Rhaena's egg never hatches and she'll also have to leave the Vale to go join Daemon.
Not only that,but now they somehow have to create a scenario in which she just decides to up and leave with Sheepstealer when her and Daemon plan to ambush Aemond and Vhagar,but she'll have no reason to do so in the show,as unlike Nettles,I'm pretty sure Rhaenyra won't try and have her killed because she thinks she's sleeping with Daemon.
So we either get Rhaena and Daemon jumping Vhagar and Aemond,which is flat out fanfiction that did not happen,or Rhaena just abandons her dad to ride off into the sunset for no reason like Laenor.
Terrible decision on the showrunners part.
Its so simple Rhaenyra will blame Rhaena when Aegon & Viserys is attack at the Gullet Rhaena is supposed Guarding them so when the other Dragonseeds betray Rhaenyra she will order the Arrest of Rhaena in revenge of the loss of visery .
I dont think this is the case? i can think of several other more likely alternatives
And also for the consequences after the battle of the gullet where we see Jace die

The sad thing is they did not remove Nettles because of any character introduction / screen time problem, but because Daemon Rhaenyra relationship fix. I can predict the future based on his current visions and guilt. But honestly, at this point, It just makes Rhaenyra look bad if she just takes him back like nothing happened. He literally started a war and is responsible for mass murder of his own countryman.

What if sheepstealer is described as brown because of the mud? Then later, when Rhaena claimed the dragon, she named it morning and get the dragon cleaned up, which will reveal a beautiful pink color. I don't really know how will they correlate it, or they would just cut morning in the show.
It would make sense if sheepsteeler died during the war and morning still hatched
Meaning she would bond with 2 dragons during the entirety of the show
Unless riders can only bond with one dragon all their life

I really hope Rhaena doesn't take up Nettles entire storyline and start up an affair with Daemon, I know she's supposed to be his bastard daughter in the books and Targaryens do the whole incest thing but I dont think I can stomach an actual father and daughter affair. Kind of disappointing because Daemon's affair with Nettles was a large plot point that really pissed off Rhaenyra and drove her mad along with the other dragon seed betrayals.

Idk mann. I hope this is just a false theory and doesn't actually happen. The bond that Nettles and Sheepstealer is one of my favorite, because of it's odd yet pure nature. And her claiming the beast despite not being "allegedly" a Targaryen or a Valyrian descendent was one of my fav mysteries from the books. Was is just because of her genuine love and care for tye dragon? Or was it because she hails from a distant valyrian family that somehow manage to survive the doom.
I hope Rhaena will just ATTEMPT to claim Sheepstealer but fails to do so, and Nettles' character comes in. That will make perfect sense more over this fuckery.

The 'behind the scenes' rubbish of Ryan being the only one enjoying hearing himself talk, even now on youtube is a part of him trying to fool the audience into believing they are getting hour Long episodes.. 20mins of intro/outro credits, now a damn Mobile Game Ad in it 😑 only 8 episodes and 35min air time, HBO could CXL at any time and I will feel sorry for the actors who are giving 100%. Respectfully that one GRRM complaint makes 0 sense. I reckon the reasons they dont roam far from dragonstone (that makes sense at least) is that it has the caves they prefer to roost in, and the sea as their feeding area. Sheepstealer has a massive mountain region (possibly with caves) and his preferred food.
IK dragons in GOT are magical, but they've always been explicitly bestial, You cant emphasize their bestiality and then complain when they behave like animals, it feels

You cannot make dragons as voracious as they are, grow to the sizes they do, having them all concentrated in a very narrow geographical area (one in which massive war veteran granma Vhagar is too) and say something as stupid as noooo they don't roam far for food.
Unless your lore includes a magical infinite re-spawn rate for sheep and other cattle in the Crownlands and Dragonstone.
I could understand tamed dragons would not FREQUENTLY roam too far from their riders, but wild dragons? And if there is a shortage of cattle which war, blockade and the presence of a decent number of big predators in a reduced area is almost certain to ensure, then all bets are off. Big predators need a lot of prey.
Im totally for Rhaena claiming sheepstealer and Nettles storyline. They set it up well and it feels good to give her purpose instead of a character who holds no significance. Im just sad we wont get a pink dragon. I want to see Daeron and his blue dragon, they teased him and still havent given him any screentime. Its odd

Spoiler alert-
Rhaena gets Nettles storyline, and the division between Daemon and Rhaenyra is brought on by something else. Rhaena confronts Aemond, and Sheepstealer is killed with Rhaena presumed dead, which is what drives Daemon to confront Aemond at the God's Eye. Rhaena however, has survived and returns to the Vale, where she finds Morning's egg. She brings it to King's Landing at the end of the war, where she hatches the egg, to Aegon III's horror.
I'm curious if this means Rhaena still bonds with the Dragon, Morning and what happens to Sheepstealer? Replacing/Combining Nettles with Rhaena changes a lot in the story but this will also make Rhaena a lot more important too.

They erase every single thing that makes him look good and add new made up non canon nonsense to make him and the greens look bad. In the end it has the opposite effect, and you just root for the guy because he can't win with the biased show runners. At least those are my reasons.
After reading the book I was team black, but I can't stand how the show tries to portray the blacks as saints and the greens as monsters so I switched sides.

So if Rhaena is replacing Nettles, does this imply that she will stay to help her father against Aemond and Vhagar? Since Nettles was going to help Daemon, but was scared away by Rhaenera leaving him alone against Aemond.

It's is known that Nettles is one of GRRM favorite characters. He often speaks about having the time to write a novella about her story. But as someone who knows how this story goes in the books, I am glad for the change. I look forward to not knowing.

I really love the idea of Rhaena taking Nettles storyline for the Dance… however now the scary part is what will happen at the end of the dance? Morning is one of the most important dragons for the dance will they give it to Viserys instead?

I never liked nettles in the book, so I'm fine with Rhaena's character being more badass in the show & taking over that story. I also don't care about GRRM supposedly don't like the changes made for the show. He signed agreements with HBO to have the story rights in exchange for hefty amounts of money. So I see it only wanting to gain more attention for himself. He also admitted approving all the show changes BEFORE season 1 even premiered. So crying for attention is more annoying than anything. IF George truly don't like the changes, then why hasn't he legally sued HBO?? Simple answer: bcoz he did approve all show story changes, signed legal agreements giving GoT & HotD production teams the official greenlight to proceed, and then received monetary payment for signing story rights over to HBO. George most likely continues to receive residuals for money HBO continues to make from GoT and HotD season 1. So he can post his complaints in his blog until he turns blue, he's simply practicing his freedom of speech. BUT doesn't mean his "complaints" actually hold water ~ IF they did, then George is also free to sue HBO, but he hasn't.
