- Clogged ducts are miserable. There are many different remedies out there, but one that is going crazy among new moms (and on TikTok!) is using a haakaa silicone suction pump.
All you need is a haakaa, some epsom salts, and warm water.

I had a very stubborn clogged duct. The whole top of my right breast was clogged and that caused for me to also got engorged on that portion of my breast. The whole top part was rock hard as the day progressed and it was until the following night that I finally unclogged it. I did 5 haakkaa treatments for 30 min and when I used my electric pump that’s where I had my letdown.
I had also done warm compressions, took sun flower lecithin powder, and massaged firmly the area. Do not give up on the haakkaa. Keep trying to reattach it until you feel a painful suction. It should suck hard enough that you can pull your shirt over it and you can walk around the house and do other tasks while the 30 min are up!
Thanks for the great video!
How do I know the clogged milk is out? How many times a day you did this?
I just did it and feel great relief, but I still feel the bump.
Thank you so much!
Can I use rock salt?
Can I use regular salt ?
But do I press down on it like pump it???😊
It takes longer than 10-15 minutes. The 15 minute mark is when the milk actually starts to come out. But it’s really slow.not fast like everyone says. And when the water cools down seems like it’s even slower. I emptied the haakaa 3 times in total and also took a nap while doing this in may rocking chair. Does relieve a lot of the pain while your doing it.
Thank you! I thought i did it wrong since i didnt get relief right away like others said they did. I will try again for much longer this time.
Lol ty!
Everyone is different
Its 3 am and yes it did 😭 thank youuu
How is the water hitting the nipple am I co fused ??
Can you do the same for the elvie curve?
Can i use this in pregnancy.. ?!
Thank you! This worked immediately when no amount of pumping or other techniques over the course of FOUR days would! Sweet relief. 😄
Glad it helped!
Hoping it works for me!
My son bit me SO bad several days ago rhst nursing makes me cry out in pain so ive developed several severe clogs. I cant put as much epsom salts as you recommended becasue its hurting the bite area SO much! Do you possibly have any other recommendations?
Mine is a SLOW SLOW drip it takes almost 2 hours for me to get an ounce :/
Any alternative for epson salt?
Thank you! You can actually see when the duct opens up and the milk rushed into the haakaa!
Amazing!
Does not work
Hi do u have to pump the Hakka???
I have the lavender epson salt is that okay to use
No
Would i do this if I'm engorged also? R clogged ducts the same as being engorged? I guess i just don't no the difference between those two.
It’s not
How do you clean out haaka sufficiently after of epsom salt..just to ensure none gets in milk later?
You can probably use a bottle scrubber.
Scrub clean, machine wash or sterilizer should do it
Hello! Should this be done after a pumping session or before?
After, you want the breast as empty as possible
Same question
is there an alternative to epsom salt?
You could try sea salt, though I'm not sure it will work quite as well
Does it matter what kind of epson salt? I only have one with lavender and one with tea tree oil right now
I would typically recommended just plain epsom salts.
Can this be done without epsom salt? I can't get my hands on it at the moment
I have read that regular salt helps with the inflammation and healing of the nipple, but I do not have experience using it to unclog a duct. I read that the only other thing is sunflower lecithin but also do not know enough about it.
What do you do if the nipple can’t touch the water?
fill up the Haakaa more
Okay so I just want to make sure I’m understanding this correctly, I just suction the haaka to my breast and let sit there without compressing it, correct? And then the milk will go into the water so I’m then wasting milk 😫Or I let sit for 10 min, empty the haaka and then let the milk flow? -my milk supply is so low already I’d hate to waste it but I guess it’s better to get relief than an ounce or 2 of milk
Yes, no compression. I would just do it until the clog is removed. I wouldn't do this while you are nursing, as that should limit the amount of milk that comes out.
Pump normal first, then do this method. For future reference
@@caroc4327 pump with the Hakka u mean?
@@Mariekr49 I meant, pump first with your regular pump to get the breast as empty as possible, then do this method with the hakka. BTW, I'm so sorry if you're the one going through this. I tried everything and this is the only thing that has worked for me. I let the Hakka stay on for almost 30 minutes before it worked, but it did and it was sweet relief. Prayers that you will get through it, I will try and respond if I see you comment again. Best of luck!
@@caroc4327 do you rerill warm water while waiting ? Cuz after 30 mins it maybe not warm anymore
Does the water need to be hot
It should be warm but tolerable
NOO!! THIS DIDNT WORK!! Hnnggg
Sorry to hear that!
