- On this video I fly an NDB Approach at Humberside. This non-precision approach is not often used in the UK, but it's still a crucial part of the IR(R) course and it's always good to learn this sort of procedure.
Congrats Noel! I’ve always wanted to become a private pilot! Watching your videos gives me lots of motivation! Thank you
Great video as always. NDB’s are now very outdated technology, but a lot of smaller airfields still use and maintain them! ✈️
Most airfields still have an active NDB
Someone from humberside will probably report seeing a PA28 flying at 600 knots, inverted 300 feet AGL.
Another great video Noel. Feels like you are about 2 years ahead of me so a great taste of things to come !
Amazing as always
These videos are so much better then the other vlogs these acc help people to learn to fly
Great video Noel! Excellent editing! Keep up the great work!
Thanks Bradley!
Great video Noel
That ice sound is lovely
Great video noel
Nice job Noel, just go around to watching this...it feels like 1940's RAF training flying!
Nice video! Currently training for my PPL!
Good job Humberside isn't that busy at the moment (although, it only normally handles 5 flights a day)... Although, it is rather sad that's the case thanks to Covid :-(. Flew out of there a lot for work trips.
A small clarification, I believe the higher minimia for imc rating are just recommendations and the legal minimum height is the published figure.
Sweet, Humberside! My local airport.
Awesome vid how much did this plane cost and what plane is it 😁
Great video. I’d forgotten the huge workload involved when flying NDB DME approaches.
Thanks! Yes it's the biggest learning curve, all instrument approaches seem to be like that - very stressful, there's a lot to do.
I love the NDB animation on the chart overlay. What software have you used for that. After lockdown would love to make some content with you at Gamston.
Thanks Sean, the bit with the chart overlay is just made in After Effects, and the route playback is a system I've built.
I guess they are still useful when all else fails, not so good single pilot on a dark night with a cross wind in double figures :-(
Thank you for posting
Hey noel do you still have you're VW Passat???
awesome videos love picking out where i know around gamston and thorsby. am just strarting out learning well trying to start any tips would be great if you ever fancy a brew before a f;ight
The maps in the UK are quite different from the ones in the US. It's neat to see. :)
What is the purpose of that hat/ cap
I really like your sun hat Noel where can I get one?
Hi, I have had a licence for 12 years but haven’t flown for 12 months however my Type rating is still in date. How did you find getting back into after a long lay off?
Nice work Noel! I have always wondered something since using an airband scanner as a kid, what is meant by the "BARNSLEY" QNH? Is is just a general QNH setting?
It's the regional pressure setting for the QNH, used when you're not around any other specific airspace .
How are you managing to fly during COVID? I fly from Gamston and haven’t been able to since the start of Jan! Or is it because you’re doing commercial training?
This was in December. Our flying club haven't been open since then.
@@FlyWithNoelPhilips we fly from the same club, I think!
in b4 a karen complains to the CAA
Must admit I clicked on this because I saw Nob Hold first 🤣🤣
First. Nice vid Noel
Night flying?
Was hoping to do my night rating over the winter but the flying school has been closed since the end of December due to COVID :(
Do you want to become an airline pilot?
When was this? If it was recent, then it violates government lockdown guidelines.
This was in December. Our flying club haven't been open since then.
