Please remember to clean the stainless micro screen filter between the supply tank and pressure pump once a month. It is very easy to misdiagnose a cavitation issue with a suddenly rough running pressure washer pump engine and start to address an issue with the engine. Some of my customers have well water, pond water, pool water and a nearby running stream or creek for water supply and I sometimes use my soft wash pump to supply water to my buffer tank. Yes there is a filter on my 5.5 soft wash pump. I tried the Bleach Pump from EverFlo and after a few months water got behind the pump head and engaged the safety circuit. I just bypassed the safety leak circuit and saved the pump and it works perfectly. Keep up the great work Cody. I have been in the field for 14 yrs as an owner operator.
I have a home owner unit right now and I’m trying to just use it for a starter unit. More or less until I can get a 5gpm Honda. It’s 3400 psi 2.5 gpm Honda gx200. I guess my question to u is could I build a tiny skid with this and add a 100 gal buffer tank? And if I could do u think it would work efficiently ? Also could I upgrade the hose to 3/8 instead of the smaller size?
I’m actually building a rig now with a 25gal tank. It’ll be a 4.8gpm pump. It’s on the back of my Ford ranger so that’s about as big as I can handle at the moment until I start working on my trailer. Even then I’m going with a 125 gallon tank. Also I have a different full time job this is just a side hustle that might turn into more.
Thanks for the video, and I have a few questions about the tank: Is a buffer tank airtight or is it open to air through some place at the top? My second question is because I am running a 4GPM machine, but many of the homes around me don't quite get 4GPM for some reason: Do you need an additional pump between the tank the pressure washer to pump the needed GPM, or will gravity do that for you from the weight of the water? Great video, thanks!
You can run one 8-9 gpm machine off a 55 gallon... the main issue is basically how fast you can fill it up. If youre running 8gpm but your clients house only pumps 5 youre going to be short (no matter if youbhave a 100,200,1000 tank). Like power washing king said "easier to fill a 55 gallon tank, than a 100,200 or higher tank)
I think you will be fine. I'm running a 5 gpm pump using a 55 gallon drum. Most homes in my area put out max 3 gpm. My 55 gallon drum is always full. There are enough times when one lets off the trigger to help it catch up. I thought for sure I would be running out of water, but I'm no where near running out. I know I could switch to a 35 gallon tank and I would be fine.
Coty... Thank you. I'm about to pull the trigger on a 5x8 trailer with 2 rectangular vertical 50g tanks and a smaller surfactant tank. 5.5gpm PW and 5gpm 12v softwash system with proportioner. As a 1-man operation, do you think 50g would be fine. as I figure, at full capacity, i could run wide open for 30+min or more without draining the tank at most lower water pressure spigot locations. Do you see a problem with that, sir?
@@southeastsoftwash4020 Coty... Do you think it's necessary to put any type of protectant like a clear coat of some sort on the wood decking of a wash trailer?.. something bleach resistant? Thank you, sir.
@@outofthetoolboxtinker we use only pressure treated lumber on our trailers but we also apply a heavy coat of raptor bed liner. It’s 100% chemical proof at that point
Math: 200 gallons at 8 gallons per minute. You got 25 minutes of continuous use. But consider having to leave the tank with 20 gallons. So 22.5 minutes. And for 5.5; you got 36 min
I have the same set up on 1 of my trailers. 2-4 gpm Direct drive 1 1/4 supply to pressure washer. 275 Ibc tote and it works great. Back up trailer for me.
i just went outside my house and filled a 5gal pail in 28 seconds off my spigot. that tells me (and please correct me if I'm wrong) i should be able to run an 8gpm machine directly off the spigot. understanding that not all spigots will be the same... maybe a 55g buffer tank should be more than ill ever need for an 8 gpm?
We have long driveways where I live, I have a 4 gpm machine but I need more hose. What size buffer tank could I get to wash those 400 ft driveways and still be hooked up to the customers water using a 300 ish ft hose? I know the more hose the less pressure so thats why I want to get a buffer tank...
Great video Cody I learned a lot from it. I am new at pressure washing. I have a 4.0 GPM direct drive Honda pressure washer I just purchase a 5 x 10 trailer and I want to start installing the tanks can I use my buffer tank to feed water to my direct drive pressure washer
What happens if your working in back yard and machine takes water faster than customers incoming? If water runs out do you get chance to turn machine off before damage?
What if you put an inline one way check valve in the bypass so that when the unloader is allowing water to the gun the other end isn't open with that recommended amount of dribble.
If I'm using one of those 250 gallon totes, do I really need to drill any holes in it? Couldn't I just use the openings that are made into it already? The feed on the bottom and then use the cap on top to fill it up and run the bypass back into?
Do yall have a pump to go from tank to direct drive so it doesn’t starve the washer due too low pressure of a 3gal min washer also my honda has and idle down system in place
I know this is older vid but seems most relevant, I live in a rural area where most people are on wells. Can you run washers off wells without drying them out? Would a buffer tank be enough or do you need to bring all water like a 400-500 gal tank and not hook up to well at all?
All wells around me. Im forced to used a 2.5 gpm machine. The buffer tank is connected to the customers water. So if you are shooting a 5gpm machine wile the tank is refilling at 3gpm your tank is going to lose 2 gallons per minute of spraying. But with all the stops, breaks, Tip changes, and stuff like that you probably are only losing less than 1 Gallon Per minute from the tank
Hey i have a 4gpm starter setup .Say i got 100gal + 50gal +30 gal.tanks.should i just setup a 100gal buffer tank anyway? Also got a 12v 5.5gpm pump setup on the rig.
Hey Coty, I lost my cap on my water tank on my AlumiMAX can I call tomorrow and buy a lid from you guys? I already tried buying a aftermarket one but doesn’t seem to fit!
I have a Simpson 4 GPM system. I assume it doesn’t create its own suction to prime itself. If I install the bulkhead at the bottom of the tank, will the weight of the water in the tank be enough to prime the pump on my system?
i have 4 gpm too and a 250 gallon tank and its hard to prime it with gravity. i suggest using as short a hose you can that feeds to the pw. i was trying to use a 50ft hose and its just too long. the gravity pressure isnt enough to push the water 50ft.
Coty, is it possible to run two 4 gpm machines off of the customers house if they have multiple spigots? Or would that essentially be the same as using an 8 gpm machine, thus needing a buffer tank?
Slow down while you're talking. You have me at lasts a long time and makes me money. Only thing keeping me from doing pressure washing full time is my regular job. Just pays consistently.

Is there a need for a pump between the exit of the buffer tank to the pressure washer??
Can I pull water from one outlet from 2 machines pulling in different directions or should I use 2 separate bulkheads or only open one up at a time

You will need a pump between the tank and the pressure washer from what I’ve read/heard about direct drive because they don’t have suction.
