    I love the fact that Henry talks about them choosing handling, lightness and fun over pure performance. My type of car for sure.

    • @Dolby109
      @Dolby109 6 лет назад +24

      And yet they chose an automatic which is purely performance over fun and engagment. It's the most (and maybe only) glaring failure of the car.

    • @christill
      @christill 6 лет назад +11

      Adam S They can’t please everyone unfortunately. It’s probably a good idea to embrace DCT gearboxes, or full EVs. Because otherwise the next few years could be especially painful for manual devotees.
      I never understood manuals growing up and was fascinated by paddle shift cars as soon as I saw them. I think they’re really fun. I don’t know if that’s common in 30 year olds or whether I’m weird. I guess the Mazda MX-5 will continue to offer a manual until they’re forced not to.

    • @cdb5001
      @cdb5001 6 лет назад +10

      Chris Till how about embracing the fact that manuals are loved for a reason? No one's saying you can't enjoy paddle shifters but that shouldn't mean you can diminish the special place manuals have in many people's hearts. And age has nothing to do with it. I'm only a few years older than you and all I've ever owned are manual cars. Would not give them up for anything.

    • @cdb5001
      @cdb5001 6 лет назад +5

      Adam S agreed. Alfa made the same mistake with the 4C in my opinion.

    • @christill

    An absolutely amazing production!! Definitely in my all time favorites, up with the Vantage in Scotland video you did a few years back or One Last Pass more recently. I’m about the same height and am absolutely in love with the original A110 though it’s unlikely I’ll ever even see one here in the states, let alone afford one.. I’m really hoping for great success overseas with this and perhaps they’d bring some to the US in a few years and cleverly engineer in a manual option by then.. In the mean time, please keep this fantastic quality content coming so I can live vicariously through you every now and again. (not too much because that could be a bit creepy) Cheers!

    This is my absolute favourite review of the A110. It takes less than 9 minutes to list everything you need to know about it in a geeky, yet perfectly understable way for us mortals, without wasting time with pointless moaning about no cupholders/old infotainment (things you shouldn't really care about when you approach a car like this). Henry's face while driving it speaks volumes.
    Everytime I come back to watch this and see my little Alpine in the garage it reminds me that I have made the right choice.
    Thanks Henry!

    RE: No Manual. Also worth noting that getting a transverse FWD architecture gearbox to work nicely (low shift weight, stiff linkages, clean gate action, low transferred engine vibration etc) in a rear transverse mid engine location would almost certainly have required at the very least a new shift tower / mech on the gearbox, and more probably an entire new g/box casing and shift rod system. That cost, at these low volumes would have sunk the project before it had started!

    • @alpinisti310
      @alpinisti310 6 лет назад +9

      Max Torque Excellent and refreshing comment! 👏🏻 People writing those ’Why doesn’t it have a manual option’ comments obviously haven’t the foggiest what it costs to develop a new car, or a new engine or transmission in particular.
      We should really admire the person/team who sold the idea of reanimating the Alpine brand to Mr. Ghosn aka Le Cost Cutter! That can’t have been an easy feat, so let’s be happy that we now have the new A110, even if it’s only available with a DCT.

    • @Franzino
      @Franzino 6 лет назад +5

      I love this little Alpine and I would love that it would have a manual (I love the manual gearbox in my M2, Z4M, etc)...but I now better understand the "cost" reason behind their decision. The company is not Porsche or BMW making yet another sporty car...it's a company that is (re)launching with their first new car. Let's be honest...even if people have the choice; most people will order it with the dual clutch gearbox anyway (same story as with the M2 / Cayman)

    • @AndorRadnai
      @AndorRadnai 5 лет назад

      That’s true. I was quite happy when I found out about the reason behind the choice. Albeit because I’m hoping that they will have the money to develop a proper manual version at some point in the future..!

      @gazman9468 6 лет назад +2

      Miata/MX5 certainly although you wouldn't expect Cayman performance at that pricepoint. GT86...once everyone got over the fun handling and accepted the iffy interior, many felt it needed more power.

      They're NA and tuned 100hp/litre as stock so I don't think there's any significant easy gains to be made. Most potential buyers don't want to mod and certainly won't be looking to drop £10k on a super/turbo kit for their brand new £30k+ car. At that point you may as well buy a Cayman!

      Gazman As an 86 owner, the interior is livable for me with good placement of sift touch materials. It does feel it needs more power but I enjoy driving the car hard everyday without breaking speed limits.
      Lastly, it's the best combination of fun and practicality. Can fit ppl in the back if I need to and the boot has large opening size and volume.

    Yes, it is nice to hear a review from someone who understands the technology it takes to build a specialty car. No BS about cup holders!
    He talks the language of a real car guy.

    Possibly the truest "sports car" to be produced in a very long time.

    I just saw and sat in and fell for the Alpine 110 at Goodwood FOS today. Looks so much better in person than in screen. I'm putting a deposit down on one if my test drive in two weeks confirms what I think this car will be like. Loved the interior, the (small) size and the apparent drive-ability of the car. If it meets expectations the 12 month waiting period will be the longest year of my life
