- Pearl Jam's Eddie Vedder performs "My City of Ruins" for 2009 Honoree Bruce Springsteen, who wrote the song in 2000. In 2010, pearljam.com announced that Eddie Vedder's cover of "My City of Ruins" would be available on iTunes to raise funds for Haiti earthquake disaster relief efforts. The song entered the Hot 100 the following month, peaking at #92.

I swear Vedder can cover ANY song
Eddie's voice is one of a kind. You recognize him within 1 second when they play a Pearl Jam song on the radio.
As someone who grew up on Pearl Jam I was very surprised how similar White Buffalo's voice is.
His voice is timeless, he actually isn’t recognised enough for how great he is.
My favorite voice of all time
Eddie did the Boss proud. Wonderful tribute in subdued and elegant fashion.
Something Eddie is not for.
Gives me chills to the bone watching two legends like these starring at each other with such tender hearts and respect.
They did a whole 30 min interview together for Eddie’s new album and it’s pretty damn good!
Iám still in goosebumps ...
Glad Eddie is still with us. His voice is a blessing to me. With Kurt, Layne, Scott and Chris gone, Eddie's voice gives me some hope. Chris' death, personally, was devastating.
I would add Scott Weiland to this list... Eddie is truly the last of the big 5
@@ThePotatusMan Agreed!!!
@@mf5202 after all of them we have to keep this man safe
Dare I say, this one seemed to mean a lot to Bruce. Just a man, a guitar, and his song.
I don’t know who this Eddie guy is who seems to pop up in all of these performances at the Kennedy Center, but if he plays his cards right he may have a career as a vocalist/performer one day.
LMAO!!!
Haha…good one
Ya think!?
Eddie can sing his songs better than anyone else can and he can sing your songs better than you can.
I guess he hasn't heard of Pearl Jam
Bruce Springsteen. One of the most Prolific Poet/ Artist of our life time.
Eddie feels Bruce. It's the same as Heart doing Zepplin. Absolute geniuses paying tribute to their idols.
Insanely good artist , everlasting spirit of humanity. One is Eddie Vedder 🌍
That was absolutely Beautiful !!! A Guitar , Eddie's haunting voice , The Boss's poignant lyrics , and a Beautiful Choir . This is a Masterpiece stripped down to Absolute PERFECTION !!! This song would be relevant to many a time in history , but damn if it ain't one of those times right now !!! Come On Rise Up!!!! Come On Rise Up !!!! I Pray For The Strength Lord !!!!!
Amazing!
Just wish it was full,
@@bradleypettett4948 xmascleanlove has the full song but the video is just pictures . This is from the Kennedy Center Honors Bruce Springsteen in 2009 and they only did cuts of songs for T.V . I love this version though , because you can see the depth Eddie sings with , and the emotion that Bruce receives the honor of him performing this Masterpiece he wrote when his hometown of Asbury Park New Jersey was literally in ruins . The pain of the lyrics showing on Bruce's face are Priceless . It was like he could see the actual city he wrote about all over again ☮️
I cried because the song is beautiful, Vedder was a big part of my teen years and he sounded amazing, and we had a real president.
I never was a Pearl Jam fan back in the day, but this is fantastic. I should go back and relisten.
I wish I had Eddie's voice, looks and songwriting ability. That would be enough!
I'm impressed with Eddie !!! He sings any song beautifully. He's the best ever ❤❤
Eddie sounds so powerful , and why not singing boss's sing ain't easy. And I'm so happy for Eddie that he has come to this level . Thumbs up for both ,to boss and to the Eddie.
I can't believe that song can improve...instead eddie did it! Absolutely great!
Great version from a great voice. Bruce looked impressed!
Eddie's voice makes me cry
Eddie’s voice! Incredible - love this song and performance - could literally watch it every day. Particularly now in COVID 19. Such a call for hope and grit.
Probably my personal selection for Song of the Year in 2020. Lyrics and meaning translate to many cities in ruin now. I pray Lord. Pray for the love, Lord. Come on, rise up.
Beautiful performance.
legends, beautiful souls and human beings. I am blessed to have grown up with both artists, who changed my life - nothing but love
This song sounds like a prayer- so solemn
Need to have the entire unedited version on here.
Absolutely beautiful!!! Thank you Eddie!!! A legend to a legend!!! ❤️❤️❤️
My favorites! Eddie and Bruce! This is divine! It's magic!

Perfection
Das hätte auch kein anderer spielen dürfen. Eddie Vedder macht es genauso glaubwürdig wie Bruce es tut. Kompliment. Da stehen mir die Haare zu Berge
Yes!
And now rise up for your freedom in Germany and the rest of Europe and the world!

@@Lonewolf_rider How dare you relating the boss to some weird conspiracy bullshit that your profile tells us about? You have no clue of what Springsteen has told us or what kind of people he was giving a voice.
Magnifique ❤️❤️❤️

Eddie
Every song is better with ed's voice
So, two things. First, I absolutely love this. Second, it's not the complete version Eddie sang on stage that night. There's an audio recording of this that Eddie released for charity, and the song is about 30 to 45 seconds longer. Whatever TV station broadcast this cut out parts of his performance to save time for ... what? Another commercial? Oh, wait, sorry. It's all about money. I forgot.
Yeah, it felt like something was missing. Still... You could see that The Boss was moved. Even Michelle Obama didn't know what to do with herself. Brilliant rendition.
Do you mean the performed song was cut short in the actual original television broadcast of this event, or this particular youtube clip here is shortened from what was first broadcast?
because if it's the second scenario, I highly doubt that's somehow much of a financial decision. Although there also are a number of different possible reasons for the editing down of an individual performance for a finished broadcast piece aside from simply wanting to cram in more ad space. It could very well be that, the money, they also could've had some manner of camera equipment glitch during the song leaving them unable to maintain clean visuals the whole way. You still get Eddie releasing clean full audio, but video's fucked. Plus a producer has a whole slew of talented acts all wanting to fit into the same broadcast, even if you're keeping the same original commercial time, you just do little nips and splices wherever you can to make it as fair to everyone as possible. Granted, I have no idea if any other performer's times from the night got cut for broadcast in addition to Eddie. But I wouldn't be surprised if there were.
@@kevinw712 The verse about "tears on the pillow where we slept" is missing
absolute travesty they cut out so much of the performance! i feel like it was one of Eddie's best live performances he's ever done.
Awesome❤️❤️❤️
Amazing !
His voice at 0.42 amazing sounds incredible ghost eary like rendition
This song continues to resonate. In these days our heart are with those in Ukraine and their cities of ruins.
Oh Eddie!
Thanks you, thank you, thank you
The only thing that is wrong with this version is that its too short.
Come sempre fantastico Eddie!!! 😅😍😍😍😘😘💘♥️💔💞💯
as the song says...music is the doctor
COISA MAIS LINDA,DE ARREPIAR 👋👋👋
Lui grandissimo, ma il BOSS è
Un esempio di libertà!!
Wow 🔥🔥
Maravilloso edd
Maravilloso Bruce ❤️❤️
Bruce hay herencia con Eddie, que lindo por favor
Lovely
Que grande Vedder
The Boss
Bruce is singing along in his head :)
It looks as if he can literally see his City of Asbury Park that he wrote about in this Masterpiece ☮️☮️
Bruce was singing about New York after the attacks on the towers and the fire fighters having to go into those buildings trying to help anyone they could - he was crossing the bridge as it was happening- His city was in ruins 😔
People don’t realize how big Vedder when Pearl Jam was on top.
@** They are happy where they are. They still fill stadiums. And they live their lives as they choose.
Eddie "The Dude" Vedder

- Ugo Betti
That's kind of how I'm feeling about the PNW. I love his voice on this song
❤
💔💔💔
❤❤❤❤❤
Ich liebe Euch.
This song hit me when Bruce sung it, then again when Eddie sung it, and again when Minneapolis burned down.
Where’s the full version??
Love disch number ❤❤❤❤
That underbite, boss.
His music makes me hate being inside...... Need to note: some people think thats a bad thing
❤❤❤👍👍👍🍀🍀🍀🍀
👏🏽🌹👏🏽🌹👏🏽🌹
Watch Patti's eyes.
🙏🤲❤️🙏
That was one of the most abbreviated versions of any song I've ever heard. It's about 2 1/2 minutes too short.
Is there any song Vedder can’t sing
it was too damn hard... You just miss the screaming: "with these hands"...
This song hits a little harder watching the horrific direction in which our country is heading!
Another ballad?

I dont agree politically with Bruce, but I have to admit, this man has heart like a Grand Canyon
