Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is a game about a struggle between fate and freedom, but also the delicate balance between authorship and agency. Through gameplay systems that encourage exploration, Rebirth empowers players to discover the world around them and chart their path through it. And through its story, it presents a compelling narrative about the destructive impact of exploiting natural resources, as well as the human causes and consequences of radical environmentalism. But it's a story that, ultimately, is defined and destined to end in very specific ways, for better or for worse. The equilibrium between contrasting ideologies is rarely perfect, and that's evident in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, a game that is rewarding for the dozens of hours it gives agency, but is frustrating in the few hours that author the series' future.
Thankfully, what Final Fantasy Rebirth succeeds at eclipses what it fumbles. It's a superbly designed gameplay experience that instills a sense of freedom while also making exploration rewarding in a meaningful way. Refined gameplay that makes character synergy a focal point breathes new life into the slick and satisfying combat, and all the while it reinforces the underlying themes of the story. As a game that has the unenviable task of living up to one of the strongest legacies in the medium, it is a worthy second chapter. Whether Square Enix can bring it all together in the third and final part will be the subject of much discussion from here on out. Just like at Destiny's Crossroads at the end of Remake, an unknown future beckons once again, and anything is still possible.

Idk why gamespot and some other reviewers do this. People watch reviews before they buy the game. NOT AFTER! that videogamedunkey guy spoiled the first one for me as well. People need to realize that even though these are remakes. Some people are experiencing it for the first time.

If you have seen the reboot movies of Neon Genesis Evangelion, you know exactly where this story is going and where it's going to end up. I knew from the ending of the first game, but now it's becoming more clear exactly what their intentions with the new narrative are. This is essentially a meta universe, where the same things have happened over and over, and Sephiroth has figured out how to manipulate it so he finally wins in the end. So to stop him in all of them, we have to stop him in this one. However, along the journey you discover more and more about the how and why everything that happened, happened. The ending becomes this neat bow on the whole thing that ties every narrative together to bring about a triumphant end for all of our heroes, this time for good. I just wish they weren't flat out lifting this idea from NGE. This would be if DC decided to do their version of Avengers: Endgame, same plot, just with their characters.
This game is so amazing. Nothing else will live up to it, especially when Pt3 arrives and we finally get our hands on the Highwind.

There's a 14 year gap between XIII and Rebirth. Probably different staff. Still wild, don't get me wrong but it's somewhat explainable

I’m seeing that people said he spoiled the ending and Gamespot is good for doing that but I don’t really see how they did here.
I'm not against him saying how he feels, but this section needed a major spoiler warning, even if it wasn't getting into the deepest specifics.
Just finished the game after 109 hours, level 50 and doing most of the side quests. A magnificent game and so much to do. I’m a veteran gamer and this was way better than expected. Well done Square.Enix.

I don't have a problem with the score, but I'm sure that's not why this video is getting severely downvoted. This dude literally went into spoiler territory about the biggest possible spoiler in the game. While he doesn't spell out play-by-play on what happens, he basically gave you an idea of how it will go down. That to me is enough to ruin the enjoyment of most players.
Yeah I'm pretty sure the review is part of the down votes as well. I get it, everyone has different opinions. But FF7 Rebirth is objectively a great game, and a masterpiece to many people. There is no way a game of this quality is an 8.

As long as there are no big technical issues I'm fine.
Performance mode is blurry and graphics mode lacks motion blur. Outside of that its solid 30/ 60fps the entire time
Default notes for youtube video game review comments section: 8 out of 10 is a really good score (Not everything needs to be 9 or 10). This is one persons opinion of it, you can still enjoy the game and consider it a 10 if you feel like it.
For a game that is supposed to be a remake of one of the best games of all time, 8 is mediocre.
It's an 8 because of the horribly flawed story issues...something ff7 didn't really have and was actually revered for.

Just because a game is a remake of a highly praised game doesn't mean it has to be a 10. Additionally, this is more of a reinterpretation than a remake. Anyone who's played the original and FF7 Remake knows that.
As for the reveiw score, if the story was "horribly flawed" as you put it, I think it would merit a much weaker score than an 8 out of 10.
The story of the original FF7 although brilliant, was most definitely flawed! It's one my favourite games of all time and even I can see that the story was pretty sketchy and not very well developed in certain areas. I actually think FF7 Remake did a really good job fleshing out the story in a way that was not clear or at all present in the original, making the overall plot much more cohesive in a number of areas. Whether that's still the case in Rebirth remains to be seen. I'll give it a go myself and decide on my own terms if the story is good or not, as that's very much a matter of opinion. One thing reviews are making clear is that it will play out very differently to the original, so I'm intruigued.
Sorry to break you but 8 is now the standard of "mid" cuz most mediocre games have 8/10, the worst game like suicide squad has 6/10 reviews

2 years, that how much time Square should only take to bring us the 3 part finale. Not 4 years again, just 2. There is no excuse for it if it becomes 4 years again. The hard part is done now, the open world is done. Now comes the finale. Please dont take 4 years to complete this story.

@@jorssu13 yes, remake might not be a 10/10, but it says a lot about the reviewer, he should be giving rebirth a 10/10 without hesitation if the plot doesn't disappoint, the ending of this game should be heart breaking or satisfying, a classic like empire strikes backs ending, I just hope they don't mess it up, anyway I will experience it myself in a week

So, from what In hear from the reviews, everyone agrees the world and gameplay are great, but acceptance of whatever they did with the story varies. Sigh, guess, I'll have to play it to see where I stand, but from what I've seen/heard so far, I'm not going in with high hopes for the plot.
Story is still the same the only complaint is how convoluted it is... the pacing is somewhat off... but still playing the game tho...
@@erickreyes7902 The story is not the same, did you not listen to the review? I'm still baffled that some people didnt get the memo from Remake that the whole point of those ghost things was so they could do major changes to the plot, which this and other reviews made pretty clear they did.

Exactly. A professional reviewer should by all means refrain from giving his personal perspective (at least as little as possible) on a story direction. Technicalities, performance, sound, etc should be the only highlight in the review, rather than veering a biased opinion on the review judgement.

Square themselves have stated that Rebirth ends at Forgotten City which is more than the reviewer says here...and we all know what happens at Forgotten City. He didn't spoil anything.

The majority say that it deserves a minimum of 9/10, while the minority say it deserves below that. Enjoy being wrong and in the minority 😂

I disagree with minigames ruining the story pacing argument. Unless there's day and night cycle and you are seeing how many days you're wasting, there's no way you can feel that way. I don't believe it.
The entire FF7 remake part 1 story from bombing of mako reactor 1 to midgar expressway happened in just over a week (it's 25 hour game). You can spend dozens of hours playing just minigames and VR missions yet it doesn't ruin the pacing at all. Events of Rebirth takes place for the duration of 1-2 months (it's 60 hour game)... I'm expecting some elaboration on that whenever you discuss it in detail.
Each to their own but I hate forced mini-games in rpgs. I feel they should always be optional and let the player find them on their own

@@thaneros FF7's minigames aren't just games, they're important character moments. If they make it optional, you won't understand certain character motivations. The narrative is just as much about the journey as it is about the destination.

I love how TAMOOR gives the first one a perfect 10 despite the Messy/Convoluted narrative ending, Bad air combat, etc. This 8 score is more fitting for Remake.🙄

🇯🇵超楽しみだけど、パラレルやループ設定は悪手だよな。原作からして戦後日本の光と闇、米国の核政策や帝国主義批判など暗喩まみれの文学だったから、更に複雑にすべきじゃないのに。前作終盤のフィーラーやセフィロス絡みの場面は子供騙しで酷かったが、またあの路線ならその点だけは残念。

Man, it looks like they’ve gone the convoluted route like Kingdom Hearts. 🤦🏻♂️ This was my biggest worry with Rebirth.
Lets not judge yet. Remember that this guy is a reviewer meaning that he had to rush through the game a bit to get this review out on time. The average at home gamer will be able to take their time and pay attention to details. The story likely isn't as complex as he's making it out to be.

@@Karlach_ I’ve seen and read multiple reviews and every single one of them states how convoluted the plot and ending is. The ending to FFVII Remake was already convoluted. It seems that was just the tip of the iceberg.

Did this review just subtly confirm that aerith dies but it lacks the impact of the original ? cause I can't think of a more massively impactful scene in FF7 than her dying. Not to mention they just said aerith is robbed of her moment as well. Bruh, I really wanted her to not die.
She was never that special, this reboot shows us that.

I love how so many people just take comments at face value, assuming they are all correct. The ending wasn’t spoiled, not in the slightest.
You're right though. It's not an explicit spoiler, but for fans the implications are really big if you want to experience it how devs clearly want it to be. I'm so frustrated that this writer and their bosses thought it was fine for the most anticipated game of the year and also one that fans have such investment in.

Mmmm…. Unfortunately it seems like this reviewer is too biased to have actually been able to give a fair review, loooots of comparisons to the original FFVII, to the point where knowledge of the OG suddenly corrupts his experience of Rebirth, and hearing the complaints about additional content being a slog shows that he’s just trying to get through the game (that same slog was a huge joy for me, and I was bewildered by the amount of quality content throughout the entire game, with only one or two moments that dropped a bit for me). Plus yes, don’t spoil endings for games please!

Dude. I started to watch this review because of the great job you did on the FF7 remake review. I turned it off after the first 30 seconds after the comments about fate and the story line.
Having just completed the game and rewatched the review, I can say this is pretty poor form to put in what you did so close to the release of the game. I’ll genuinely never watch another video or read a review from this channel again, because this really could have ruined what was an amazing experience for me, and a lot of people. It’s fine if that’s what the channel is going for, but it feels like you didn’t like the ending, so bitterly wanted to spoil it for others.
in regards to the combat. Its feels kinda weird that it took several mainly FF's (13,15) to finally work out the blend of action + turn base hybrid that is so perfected in FF7 remake/rebirth. Think about that: Mainline games were the experiments; the REMAKE is the result
That dosen't explain the blunder of FF16 which came out after FF7 Remake. FF7 Remake trilogy Is the only modern FF doing It right , and I actually would be fine with this same FF7R combat being applied to FF17 , at least they know everyone would like It.

The pros were combat gameplay and story and the cons were pretty much all technical and ACG Is one of the few reviewers I trust to give his real opinion not a paid one

Bro played and loved a game for 55+ hours and hated the last 5-10 minutes… so an 8/10.

To be fair the ending is adapting one of the most iconic moments in gaming history. Its is going to have the most value to some people out of any other part in the game.
