  • This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. The way you breathe shows how much tension, calm, and focus you have in your life. Neema Moraveji, Ph.D., founder of Stanford University's Calming Technology Lab, discusses how the millennia-year old science of respiratory psychophysiology can be leveraged today with wearable sensors to help us improve focus, reduce stress, and live with balance in daily life.
Neema Moraveji, Ph.D. is the Director of Stanford University’s Calming Technology Lab and Co-founder of Spire. He studies technological means of assessing and influencing state of mind for productivity and wellbeing purposes. His popular course at Stanford’s Design School on “Designing Calm” has collaborated with the likes of Google’s Gmail team to prototype and understand the effect that technology has on the lives of its users and how it can be harnessed to create balance in daily life.
About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

"The micropause at the end of your outbreath is the calmest part of your experience in life." Beatifully true

Extremely useful and very well communicated. What he says about the exhalation and paying attention to it and emphasising it as the beginning of the breath is on point! So glad I came across this :)

The analogy of camp fire observation to breathe is great explanation. I listened to this talk thrice. This man has great weight in his words and is truly experienced in what he is talking about.

    Was fantastic, very informative.
Only those who really are after learning the importance of learning the state of one’s mind and the breathing we do every day can appreciate what he is talking about?!
Loved it the way he explained this
Relationship between breathing and state of our mind!

they 'say' something totally different yes, but in practice breathing exercises and breathing mindfully all achieve positive effects on mental and physical health.

Hamish Cameron feedback appreciate & it’s subjective statement btw (let’s not influence others to be pessimistic or ungrateful of the info as statements like those can trigger people away from the info instead of listening to the actual message & practice it..which is the overall intention of the message) thank you
