    Thanks for really showing how this shifts. Your YJ looks pretty rad, and I like that you're building it up for sensible, thoughtful wheeling instead of "mat the throttle and break stuff" wheeling.

    This is so helpful to me, I have a long arm xj with an Ax-15 on 44s was looking for a way to get a super low range since my 4 lo wasn’t enough for the tire size I run best and most simple video on this subject by far!

    I'm looking at one for my '04 Ram. I originally planned on a 2-speed. But the added versatility of the 4-speed makes it worth the little extra money. Have to wait til I can upgrade the trans though. The stock NV3500 isn't up to serious use. Already had to replace it once, and I haven't been in the dirt yet.

    Great video, thanks! So I have a TJ with a manual transmission and as you know, going up a shelf and working the gas, brake and clutch at the same time, can lead to stalls. My question is, when you set the Atlas to low, does it drive more like an automatic trans and eliminate much of the clutch and brake operation when climbing?

      Bobby Walton thanks for watching! With a 4 speed, yes, you don’t have to use the clutch at all, you just control what you are doing with the throttle. If you watch the return to lazy springs video you can see the Jeep go through a man made obstacle and I never use the clutch. It will give you an idea of what you can do. It makes manual 4x4’s a lot more fun to drive off-road 🍻

    Good demonstration. Not sure of your tire size. I am planning to run 35s and based on the chart I saw online was thinking 4.88 gears in my Dana 44s. A friend recommended the Atlas and after doing a bit of research now I am thinking maybe 4.56 would be better for highway driving to and from with the extra low ratios available in the Atlas for wheeling. Thoughts?

      I think what gear ratio you run depends more on what your terrain is. In Florida 4.10’s we’re plenty but I could always tell that if I lived in a mountainous area I would want something lower. So that would be my advice. If you have a 4 speed atlas going lower on the trail won’t be an issue no matter what axle ratio you run. Try to pick a ratio best suited for driving around town and on the highway and let the multiple low ranges do the work on the trail 🍻

      If you are building an ultra 4 I would contact advance adapters and get their recommendations on what you should use for your application. They know far more than I do.

    When upgrading your axles and gears will you have to change your ratios in the transfer case?

      adam fowles thanks for watching! No the transfer case will stay the same except I will have to change the front and rear output yokes to whatever size I go to. So if I change to 1350 u-joints then I would have to go from 1310 to 1350 yokes.

      I’m sure you can use it with an auto trans, there may be some programming that may need to be done depending on abs or traction control depending on what you are putting it in. Thanks for watching and commenting!

      @@hassanaljazaeri8 I have the Atlas 4 speed (1, 2.72, 3.8 and 10.34:1) in my 4 dr JK with a 6.2L LS and Chevy 6 speed 6L80 automatic automatic and it works great. When you really want control it is wonderful. I find that I use it in 10.34:1 mainly on long steep descents (I am in Colorado) and I can easily control the speed with the tap shift on the transmission. One thing is that the 6L80 has a 1st gear ratio of 4.03:1 and with it in low/low/1st gear and with my 4.88 gears I have a crawl ratio of 203:1; I can not stop it, at an idle, with the brakes. When i want to stop I have to shift into neutral. And I have to big brake package on the Dynatrac axles! But it is a GREAT combination. When you are on fast fire roads and 3.8 is too low the 2.72 works fine. For most uses off road I use the 3.8 ratio. But for slow controlled climbs and descents the low/low 10.34 ratio is great.

    Can you please provide all cost and what you model and part numbers associated with the install I'm only running a 2.5 with 4.10 so a atlas was a route I was thinking of taking I haven't found any yjs with the atlas setup so I would love to hear any challenges along the way thanks.

      Honestly it was so long ago the only thing I can say about price is that it was expensive. The case alone was over 3 grand. If you go with a 2 speed transfer case it’s a pretty simple swap but with a 4 speed atlas the case is really long and I had to stretch the wheel base because of rear drive shaft length issues.

      The 4 speed has 3 low ranges. The 2 speed only has one low range

    how much did the atlas 4 speed cost? I like how it's a single case VS making a "mcdoubler" np231:231. Not sure which route I wanna go yet

      I think it was almost 3000.00. Hard to remember. It was worth every penny. The quality and how rugged it is are awesome. It is so beefy it makes the np231 look like a wish.com version of a transfer case.

    What in the world would you need a atlas 4 speed for on the coast? Just watching the opening made me cringe seeing the lines of Jeep’s waiting to drive over some stacked cement blocks and telephone poles to make bumps. Maybe it’s a show thing , and who has the best of the mall crawlers or something .

      I think this a great first effort, but if I may be so bold I'd like to ask you to re-do the vid for more precise info. Like Kirwan above said... the rough ratios you give are a bit of a challenge to follow. If you could start from the very highest ratio, then, one ratio at a time shift down and call out the ratios (hint, maybe write up a cheat sheet and tape it to the dash just out of the frame. To be honest I got lost somewhere right after the first couple of shifts and never caught back up. I'm not saying I'm the sharpest tool in the shed, but I think if you tighten up your presentation a bit and make it more precise this could be THE GO TO VID for everyone who wants to see how an atlas IV actually operates once it's installed. Pretty rad jeep by the way! Keep up the good work!!!!
