- Happy Friday, everyone! Today, we travel to the windswept wastes of Desolace to examine a peculiar landmark... or rather the absence of one! What happened to the missing archway of this zone? And has anybody else noticed this after 20 years??

its driven me crazy that places such as alterac valley and warsong gulch aren't like... anywhere on any map. I understand why they aren't, but it bugs me a little bit to not be able to see geographically where they are in the zones they're supposed to be in. A portal to the zone to aint enough for my loremonkeybrain.
Same with certain dungeons or raids like Terrace of the Endless Springs from MoP. It is in the heart of the Vale yet it is nowhere to be found in the actual Vale of Eternal Blossoms zone.
Damn I thought I was the only one that was bugged by this. Where the frick are the BGS ?
I kinda feel the same, but since the world we got must actually be a very compressed version of azeroth, I convinced myself that I should stop thinking about it 🫠 Those places are just somewhere between / within those zones
it's like... these bgs are the size of like a quarter of this whole zone and yet you expect me to believe that it just exists in a separate space and time? they coulda done something like winterspring where you can't travel over it unless you're participating in it or maybe like how the ruins of aq or zf have like an uninstanced version you can fly over and get inside of that's just empty.... but then that might be annoying to have huge swaths of land with nothing in it everywhere so again... i get WHY they aren't there from a technical/game disign pov but still it just itches my brain

@@tombuch9000 Hidden by ancient Titan magic... duh!
I swear I noticed this a week ago when getting a rune… “wait, what’s that thing on the map?” Then I forgot about I 5 seconds later…
Haha, it's easily forgettable since there's nothing there!!
I think it's just an indicator for a "safe" path to the goblin hut from the road. It's been on the map since 0.10.0, when they revamp'd the zone and added the map icons. Really cool none-the-less!
That's a potential option! Thanks for checking that out :)
@@Jediwarlock It's really fun to investigate things like this! If you find any more inconsistencies/mysteries please be sure to make videos about them. I love the open ended nature of your geologic content and speculating about developer's intent~
I suspect it shows where the escort for the caravan ends?
Knowling Blizz. It might've been a scrapped thing. Just like how the former entrance to Blackfathom Deeps was still shown in the game map (when they used to come out with physical game discs). The entrance was shown, and actually in game, to be up north in Darkshore. (where it used to be at one point)
Good point! :)
Questing in the desolace was a nightmare in vanilla
not really, it was actually a pretty good zone for questing, people just didn't like it because it was.. desolate
I do remember that we all were less skilled and you saw very often people accidently pulling mobs and dying. Happened to that zone way more than in others from that level range atleast from my view.
It might not look pretty, but there were a couple good questlines for Alliance at least. :) Plus now in SoD there are a TON of Warlock Runes there! :D
Wow, I've played on and off since 2004 and I've actually never thought about it being nothing there.
How intresting!
Making some sort of spectral portal/ruin there would be a nice fix.
It would be so funny if it comes true, haha XD
Knowing Blizz, that chance is really minuscule. But it would indeed be cool! 😄@@Jediwarlock
In Legion, there was(is?) a pair of goggles you could get from an engineer gnome that let you see things that wasn't visible without them. Don't remember their exact name but they worked kinda like the lens of truth in Occarina of time, but they were supposed to show you things from the past. They was used in a quest-chain and one one the NPCs that you returned one of the quests to is standing on that mound but with the goggles on you could see that there used to be a stone arch there (the NPC is standing on the arch when you put the goggles on), and there was a broken road going underneath it. It was kinda cool.
That is super cool! Thank you for sharing :)
I never knew about this portal! I have to admit that Desolace was no place I visited while first playing the game.... I started with TBC and wanted to join my mum in Outland so much that I hurried through levelling as fast as I could! 😊
Thank you for showing me this place! ❤
P.S. I still am no big fan of Desolace, it looks a bit.... depressing 😅
You are very welcome! It is a bit dreary but I like how unique it is! :D
Your love for this game is inspiring.
:)
There is another missing zone as well!
there is a dwarven farmstead in the mountains of Wetlands just beyond the dwarven runway. there is a mountain gate within the little farm community which drops to absolutely nothing
On Turtle WoW this settlement is known as Dun Agrath and you can get there by taking a flight path from Menethil Harbor
Is it the village you find doing the Dun Morough to Wetlands skip? I ran around that place for an hour last month never knew about it much.
Those were fillers for you to see while you fly thats their only purpose and many of them exist in wow that you cant reach normally.
Yes, the Dun Agrath settlement is awesome!! I think if Ironforge had been made with 2 levels/stories we would have seen some of those connecting paths added (like to the Ironforge AIrport as well) :)
i beleive that was one of the portals for the scrapped emerald dream in classic
oooh!
Thats a good guess
Definitely could be! :o
Well you’re giving them free game design with this video that’s for sure 😅
Haha, I try to! XD
Dude's gonna lose it when he sees the sea monsters on the map.
🤯🤯🤯
I never noticed that. Good find!
Thanks! :)
Jediwarlock, i try to suggest you approaching the Desolace arch in ghost form.
I just checked and there is nothing there, great idea tho! :D
Clearly, the arch is a "paper town", a made-up thing placed on a map so you can tell if someone copied your map instead of making their own.
Ooh, that's a cool idea! I hadn't thought of that :)
you should try and find more of those map errors, there must be one or two more place out there that has a map icon but nothing there
Right? :) I definitely will keep an eye out for some!
Is there anything on the alpha client? Maybe on an older map?
Edit: there seems to be some huts above and below it on the alpha minimap, but nothing particular on the rock itself
After checking all of the alpha and beta builds - nope. It's always been empty. All major work on the area happened in 0.10.0 and before that it was just wide open space and the map showed nothing. The spikier version of the area in 0.9.0 was pretty cool tho. The huts in that area were for the Centaurs.
@Eyevou thanks for investigating that!
The typical blizzard response is to do nothing. If they were going to do something, it would already be too late because desolace will be an irrelevant zone once P3 hits. To add something here would require blizzard to be more in touch with the game than the community is, and notice these tiny details that only someone would notice when trying to find subject matter for content creation.
thats kinda negative! tweeting, posting on reddit, and the community forums are pretty good!
I mean, it's not unheard of for them to add things to zones despite it being too low level of a zone... hoping SoD will address this :)
most things was scrapped back then, vanilla was about to be 70lvl cap, karazhan was about to be in vanilla but they run of time and release these things in TBC, same was about quests.. for example horde got less quests than alliance.. they just ran of out time.. many maaany things were about to be released in vanilla.. but they skipped it to TBC and Wrath.. (oh well deathknight was discovered also first in vanilla)
True! :) I like your thoughts
I have looked all over YT for this video since you posted The Vault of Kalimdor video. Do you suppose this was going to be the entrance, and they covered it up?
I'm so glad you found it! It's definitely a possibility :)
Hi Jedi!
The game always need more content, not less!
True that! :)
you could check the cataclysm map to see if it's still here
Looks like the archway (and that entire section of road) got remapped in Cataclysm :0
Isn't that where the clans were in classic?
Yes, home of the centaur clans and the ones you could increase your rep with :D
2:18 hmmm, so youre saying runescape can help?
Haha, sure thing!
I am like number 425
bro rly is digging the bottom of the barrel for content
Actually, you can look at any of my more recent videos to see that's not the case. I make videos I'm interested in, whether the topic is really well known or really obscure.
Hi mom im on youtube
Hi! :)
the ai voice is too much
Thats his real voice wdym 🤣
@@DevelonLP Sounds like they generated an AI voice based on their real one. Something sounds off. If it's not, my bad
Haha naw it's my real voice XD

I enjoy your movies, but still you have not presented any new stuff (for me). As an adventurer the maps was created long before my journey begun. Why are you shit-talking about blizzard? Just to follow the stream? This was your worst video, sorry.
? That was not my intent with this vid... just pointing out an interesting detail. :) I just wanted to present multiple approaches on how the inconsistency Could be fixed. It's very likely nothing will ever happen and even with Blizzard at their "prime" it may not ever come to their attention. Sorry if I came across in that negative way.
shouldnt watch these while at work, just want to go home and wonder around some zones
Haha, exploration is such a fun part of WoW! :)
