I remember exploring the Crypts while drunk back in 2005. I knew it was an unfinished zone, but every room I entered, I half expected there to be a Level 200 elite ghost that would one-shot me.
I played WoW from March of 2005 through June of 2022. Our guild was a Horde guild named Obsidian Spur, originally on Sargeras up through Mists of Pandaria, and then we moved the guild to Thrall where it still resides. My name was Wretchedmist, undead priest and GM of our guild. Looking back now, I feel extremely fortunate to be part of that player base who played the original Vanilla WoW. I know all of the locations in this video, and it really made me feel good to go back in time here and relive these places through your video. I remember when we first went to Alcaz island and went into the prison area. We found King Varian Wrynn in there, and if I recall he was a yellow NPC back then. I think we went there with one of our rogues, which makes sense with the Defias Brotherhood quest chain. I still have the screenshots somewhere from 2005-2006 or whenever that was. This was a time when fantasy was a key part of WoW. Going slow, stopping and looking, theory crafting, exploring the world, imagining, being present. The game was way, way more about living the fantasy in conjunction with the dungeons, raids, pvp, farming, etc. This element of WoW no longer exists, nor has it for many years. It's much less about guilds and community, and that's not just due to the game's age, but intentional game design changes made by the company over years. Death by a thousand cuts. It brings sadness to my heart about the game I once loved so much. I don't know if I'll ever come back. If I do, it will be as a casual. Raiding - especially mythic raiding - had become so tedious, requiring immense energy, effort, and time as guild master and raid leader. Extreme boss tuning, hundreds of wipes, scripted CD usage, 10-15-minute fights, countless one-shot mechanics and raid-wiping mechanics, mandatory high parsing requirements, high player turnover, the influence of e-sports, the list goes on and on. I tip my hat to all players who are having a blast in Classic WoW and Season of Discovery. You're playing the best iterations of WoW (outside of original Vanilla) that create the opportunities for this community, guild, and fantasy again.
There really is no feeling like discovering one of these places back when Vanilla was live, instead of RUclips videos, it was the word of mouth that got you access to these places, I'll never forget watching over my brother's shoulder as he and some guildies spent hours getting access to the crypts, Old IF, etc. The feeling of being in a massive world, but being in a special place for explorers eyes only, it felt like Magic.
Honestly I was watching RUclips videos on hidden zones back during vanilla. It’s how I found the cheat to get to menethil harbor from loch modam. I would say all these secrets people are talking about now were well known in 2005-2006. RUclips just wasn’t as popular so not everyone knew about it.
I remember discovering Newman's Landing shortly after I started playing. I was playing a human paladin and got the paladin quest to speak to the guy in IF. I had no idea about the tram between the two cities so instead I decided to go to Westfall and try swiming along the coast and maybe i"d be able to climb the mountains into Dun Morogh. And while swimming in the ocean trying to get from SW to IF as a new player I discoverd Newman's Landing and it's always been a memory *edit* It's cool that In SoD, Paladin's need to go to Newman's Landing for a rune! Kind of cool I got to go there on both my Paladin's one intentional one unintentional
From what I understood back in Vanilla was the Crypts were a homage to the movie Big Trouble in Little China, the scene of the hell of the upside down sinners. The dancing troll village is still in the game and easily accessible. Most of the classic hidden locations are still in retail and finished.
Newmans landing wiki is correct. You could camp out there and watch new characters spawn in for a split second while the intro movie played before teleporting to the correct zone
This video takes me back to my teens.. i used to explore all those locations back in original Vanilla WoW... just wandering about into the wilderness with a few friends, exploring the unaccessible. such a great time back then i love that the SoD-Team reuses those places and is giving them an actual purpose
I remember exploring with friends and finding our way into the caverns of time back in vanilla. Its those sorts of epic adventures that simply don't exist in WoW anymore. It uses to be so much fun playing with other people, now I only play alone. I'm not into pvp or raiding anymore
There is this one "store" in stormwind which you can walk through and get into a little closed off alley. Saw it the first time playing turtle wow and thought it was custom content. Was mindblown when Ive seen it in Season of Discovery
Oddly enough, most of these places are possible teleport locations for the Aragriar's Whimsical World Warper trinket from Electrocutioner. I've really had fun finding weird places to be sent to.
Just wanted to say you’re my favorite streamer Xar. I played from release until the release of Cata. Came back for MoP and then again for Legion. Classic until TBC. I don’t play anymore nor believe I will ever have the time to but it’s nice to see what’s going on in the game. Namely non retail.
I used to host a running thread on windjammer forums back in the day paying people gold if they recognized exactly where I was. I used to showcase a lot of places like these. My favorite was the nether area under Kara.
if you swim around to the back of Alas Island, and swim down, there is a giant underwater cave that leads you to a titan hall, with a watcher in it. enjoy !
I went into the Crypts after seeing this. Someone thought I was doing the Rune Quest and offered to pay 5G for me to summon. I was just like “you don’t want to be where I am”
JUST IMAGINE if blizzard reworks Karazhan undergrounds to make a new raid 10p for lvl 50 or 60 SoD content !! until deadwind pass mobs are around 45+ i would love if they make it for 50, as in p3 we got one 20ppl raid and one 10ppl
Question for Xaryu and chat ... i haven't been playing wow for almost 15 to 16 years, I am currently got bored and tired from lost ark so i am taking a break from this game or fully quit if i found a new addicting game. I have been watch xaryu SOD videos and looks fun so question is should i download wow and play sod? or play original one with dragons? is it fun? i would love to hear all people opinions. Thank you
isn't the crypts one of those ones that nobody really know what it was supposed to be all I can think is a dungeon to go along with karazhan or something that would've opened before tbc

Old if was so fucking cool!
I remember getting underneath Orgrimar with my friend Paul back in TBC. Good times 😊

The beauty of SoD, absolutely loved having to visit this spot for an ambush. It was really cool.
In Dun Morogh there is a small cave far up in the mountain. If you go in there, Tanaris or Silithus will be shown as your location ;)
The gnomeregan trinket sends you to all these places and I know its gunna be very important for phase 5

Newmans landing wiki is correct. You could camp out there and watch new characters spawn in for a split second while the intro movie played before teleporting to the correct zone
The gnomeregan trinket can also send you into Old Ironforge, I got sent there today. Awesome place
9:20 never thought id hear music from Pirates of the Caribbean online again
god i was trying to think of where this is from, remember the voodoo dolls?
@@Jults There is still a fan made legacy game. I still play it from time to time for nostalgia sake
This video takes me back to my teens..

such a great time back then

which?

Finding that dock behind SW back in BC I felt so cool
The red Dragon in a cave on the coast behind the Ruins of Ahn'Qiraj is a cool find.
My level 10 twink friend killed that Goblin till Exalted back in the day. TO this day he has over 60 reps exalted on that lvl 10. Still plays.
Just wanted to say you’re my favorite streamer Xar. I played from release until the release of Cata. Came back for MoP and then again for Legion. Classic until TBC.

The statue spot in Azshara is 1 of the best places to farm Rich Thorium. 3 nodes around the mountain/water and a 4th randomly south in the water.
@21:40 We had an RP wedding there back in like 2016.
The troll village is hands down the best xp grinding spot for alliance mages 55-60. You get tons of pots and cloth too.
I used to host a running thread on windjammer forums back in the day paying people gold if they recognized exactly where I was. I used to showcase a lot of places like these. My favorite was the nether area under Kara.
Newman's landing is used in SoD for a paladin rune.
if you swim around to the back of Alas Island, and swim down, there is a giant underwater cave that leads you to a titan hall, with a watcher in it. enjoy !
When doing the night elf low level skip to stormwind, you swim past the Newman's port.
The painting at the end is a bowl of fruit. Surprised you couldn’t figure that one out, Xaryu.
I went into the Crypts after seeing this. Someone thought I was doing the Rune Quest and offered to pay 5G for me to summon. I was just like “you don’t want to be where I am”
What about the spot above Stormwind where you can fish for Peace Bloom? Just a fun fishing spot.
Room of the upside down sinners I'd a reference to Big Trouble in Little China with Kurt Russell
I've been to the 1st 3. And the IF airfield. As well as the tent and banner at the tippy top. Then the last 2 I've been to. Cool.
Cool.
Damn man, you ever just sit back and marvel that we all just want to experience something with you? Electric.
creep
I find it hard to believe you've never been in the Karazhan crips i used to bug into there and host duel tournaments
This video missed so many spots. Plus the notorious GM Island you used to be able to /who the gm’s at
I feel like they really missed an opportunity to use Old Ironforge in Cata tbh
Can't wait for part 2 😂 he missed some good places like pre tbc caverns of time or the hidden camp in stw.

Thank you
Play sod
Super cool channel with just a few videos so far, highly recommend it.
Turtle WoW is releasing Kara Crypts as a 40 man raid soon (as a part of classic)
I got teleported to the high seat and old iron forge with the gnomes trinket
isn't the crypts one of those ones that nobody really know what it was supposed to be
all I can think is a dungeon to go along with karazhan or something that would've opened before tbc
How was all this stuff made?! Feels like aliens made this game or something
Can you get into old IF in classic sod ?
Been to all those places, except for the Crips back in the day before flying, never thought they were special, just part of WOW .
At the end, why is Xaryu trying to figure out who that painting is? It's clearly a bowl a fruit
Ok now I'm hyped for the coming raids!
Enjoyed this!!
Ravencrest monument in ashara is A world quest area
Ahh I loved the last place. So cool 😎 ❤ this is why I love old wow.
It was a raid before lich king came out
Are mages still able to blink under stormwind?
Love this guy's content
Verigan is delightful
I've got some hidden fishing spots.
19:27 time to go back at 40!
😂to this day i have no idea who or what the 2 giant naga skeletons are in desolace theres no lore on it or anything its just 2 huge skeletons
that was the fake varian at alcaz island. think about it
Is the smiley face under Kara still a thing? It’s been so long since I’ve been there

Isn't it funny these reactors rarely like & subscribe to the videos they watch?
when i die i wish theyd put me in the game, maybe as a little clickable lonely wandering dog.
