How do you unplug in this "digital age"? What refreshes your soul? What allows you to feel connected and grounded within your true self? 🙏☮️ Thank you for being here with my my friend. Namaste.
I was thinking recently about just how much easier life felt as a kid. Obviously, as one gets older and more aware of the world, as one takes on more responsibility, everything has to get heavier. But I've found myself so badly wanting to go back to that ease--and I think unplugging is part of that.
I won't lie. I believe the internet changed my life by connecting me to the world(as well as language learning). I grew up in a very conservative and religious family so being exposed to other view points helped me build a healthy belief system. But I totally agree that it can so easily get toxic. If it wasn't for my small business and also the concern of content marketing for my future publication, I'd have deleted most of these apps coz as of now they take much more than they give. I'm so confused most of the time, specially with the extreme opinions being shared everyday on ppl's stories. Sometimes I can't even hear what I think. Idk how I will manage to make this a balanced thing. Limiting my time on these apps? Hasn't worked. Every time I feel angsty, I can't help spending more time on them until I feel better. Basically, confused for life.
I muted everyone on Twitter (including friends). My timeline consists of cats pictures and videos, and other things I'm interested in. Most of the time (I wish it was all the time), I come back from Twitter smiling cuz I saw a cat being cute. You don't have to know what everyone's thinking or feeling or doing. You really don't. And if you want to, you can always call or text them.
Thank you for sharing dear soul. I believe that as you seek, you will find the balance you are looking for🙏☮️ I wish you so much joy in your unfolding journey my friend
I love that you were homeschooled. I’m homeschooling my children and they have so much time to follow their interests. I let them delve into whatever they’re interested in, and they constantly amaze me. Thank you for this video.
Thank You so much! This is exactly what I have been trying to teach people, divided attention and distractions. Many blessings to all. Please take best care of yourselves.
A piece of advice that I've found helpful is "do it with your brain turned on." Whatever that might be. Whether its watching a movie, reading a book, scrolling on your phone, use your brain, be wise and understand what you believe and why you believe it so you can better make a firm stand when there is the temptation to be influenced one way or the other. Always be mindful, thoughtful and weigh in the morals... When I can, I love to leave my phone, escape to the woods and go for a long bike ride. Last year I spent a lot of time down by a creek where I live...soooo peaceful. A little scary being all alone in the woods. Where I live, B.C. Canada, we have a lot of wild black bear and coyotes, but I always tell someone where I'm going. I'm deeply drawn to the forest and mountains. I love walking barefoot and swimming in cold streams that I find. Nature has been one of my greatest teachers in life and I've learned a lot about God by learning to love the created. 💕💕
As much as I love what Pinterest, RUclips and TikTok combined offer, creativity-wise, I still struggle with being mindful of how much I can either get carried away.
very good point about mental clarity, well said Kate. I always loved technology and surfing the net bc I grew up in a small city with closed minded people and I learned so much thanks to the internet. but it really grew out of hand to the point where it’s hard to limit how much control it has over our lives now.
All I can say is " Thank you" Ive felt exactly this way but I couldnt put my finger on it. But Thanks to you you brought my "Inner Peace" I call it.❤Love your videos❤❤Your beautiful my friend❤🌸🌹🌻🌺
I have unplug day, usually Sunday. I sit on the couch and read most of the day. It seems like another distraction, and it may be for some, but for me, I hear all the sounds around me and they're peaceful. I occasionally look up and see my sweet sleeping pets, and just enjoy the moment. I notice many things that I normally wouldn't. And when things bother me like they would on any other day, I've found it's so much easier to let go of it, and not encounter any anxiety. Unplug day is my favorite day of the week, and I'd like to unplug more often.
This is fantastic! So much, and I would even dare to so the vast majority, 98-99% of social media material is to manipulate us to buy using different tactics. It’s important to know ourselves, be critical thinkers, but unfortunately so much on here is even digitally altered, even movies. It makes it feel like a losing battle but the mental health of our country is suffering while people doing this make money, you wonder if they are suffering too anyhow. But yes, staying focused on what matters and realizing the manipulation is paramount to being empowered. It literally is a matrix and I won’t be sucked into it to get distracted from the beauty that I and others deserve!
I can feel the peace emanating from you, Kate. You're a great influence on the world. You have a point. I think it's the lack of "identity" in an identity-hungry world that attracts youngins to the internet. It's a melting pot with differences galore, and the chances of finding people with the same interests and opinions as you and eventually uncover more about your own self is 99%. The problem today is that young people don't want (or rather can't or don't know how) to point their attention inwards and discover who they truly are; they want to become what society wants them to be: beautiful and wealthy, because that's what's advertised as "happy". Compared to technology in the 80's, the raise of technology now is literally playing at the concept of merging reality and virtuality, and people are finding cyberspace a much more suited place to stream themselves. Their "real selves", because not everyone can break societal chains and roam free as they truly are. Society siphons freedom; cyberspace is an endless void that you can build on and on and on until you're satisfied. I don't think your mental health would suffer if you already had a sense of self and an assured set of beliefs and morals (and realize you have to take breaks). You won't mentally suffer if you've already found yourself, and you won't pat an eye at outside influences. Everyone looks the same now, especially woman. Diversity and differences are lost. People hide who they are and go for the image everyone wants to see. If I'm being honest, I still have bad days where I dislike how I look, but now that I'm older I understand that my features are unique, and so am I. It's what makes me "me", and everyone should embrace such mindset and allow themselves to bloom from the inside rather than the outside. And as we've all seen, life is cruel and unfair, and unfortunately, not everyone has the opportunity to be one with nature or be surrounded by a loving family or friends. They may feel stuck, and their only window out into the world is the internet - where they have total control. It's an attractive concept to have everything in the palm of your hands, and sometimes very powerful. But as you said, we have to stop and realize that we might not be in total control here. Hence, why hackers opt to the dark net. Today's internet, I find, doesn't help you find yourself; rather, it teaches you to be someone else that is far from You. It's building a robotic society that looks and talks the same, extremely voiceless, lacks intellectuality, or even produce something unique like all the past generations. Beauty is internal, and so is happiness. You won't find happiness in the constant amassing of money or beauty products. You gotta find it within yourselves. Do stuff you love, not stuff you think will you get you attention on the internet. Be you. Thanks @K.A. Emmons for a wonderful topic!
This is so beautifully written! ❤️ I agree, people are identity-hungry, seeking to find themselves online, but becoming just like everyone else in an effort to find a sense of belonging and validation. But a lot of that is empty and unsatisfying, so it becomes an addiction. It’s used as an escape from themselves and their reality, fantasizing about being someone else other than themselves. While the internet has taught me a lot about my interests, this is what drew me so deeply into it at times, I’ve even seen within myself how it can exacerbate insecurity, distraction and conformity if my awareness drops. I think developing boundaries with it is key, and balancing it with focused attention on knowing the self. It takes going within and developing a strong sense of self to live in your authenticity and the power of your differences, and it’s the foundation for mental health as well. This is what “school” should actually be- teaching people how to be connected to and being more of themselves.
i’ve been having a lot of the same thoughts. i’ve spent the last year or so focusing on myself, trying to figure out who i am and what i want, and it’s so strange to go on social media and see thousands of people all dressing, speaking, and thinking the exact same way, all while saying that this is authentically who they are. the idea that the internet is somewhere you can be your ‘real self’ is so tragic to me, because when you’re spending time on the internet what is your real self, your physical body, doing? it’s literally just passively sitting there. what does it do to your psyche for your ‘real self’ to be in a simulated version of reality that can literally never be translated into the here and now? what does it do to your sense of your own thoughts and identity when ten minutes on social media means exposing yourself to the random thoughts of dozens or hundreds of people whose input you don’t necessarily value? how can you have any sense of your own values and direction and authentic desires if your brain is constantly oversaturated with everyone elses’ that they also haven’t had the time to properly consider because their brains are also oversaturated? the internet is of course a wonderful tool, but you wouldn’t want a screwdriver to be your entire life ;)
@@kinseydesignsbrands Thank you so much, Kinsey! Indeed, boundaries are always great for keeping everything balanced. Unplugging recharges our minds, so to speak. Oh yes, schools are way behind on that prospect. I think, besides teaching kids scientific or creative materials only (both are great!), they should start teaching them about mental health and dive deep down into all the sub-genres that come along with it, such as establishing boundaries. I can only hope that the educational system progresses with the raise of the next generations.
@@kimmyayoga Hey, Kimmy! I'm glad you chose to take the time to focus on yourself. it's always a great feeling to finally figure out who you are and feel sort of detached from everything and everyone in social media. You make a really interesting point about authenticity. I've noticed, too, how influences these days keep spouting the term without really comprehending it? Because if this were "authenticity", then why do you look and sound the same as everyone else? I bet their personal thoughts are way more interesting, to be honest. As for the physical body, I totally get what you mean. The thing is, humans have always viewed their bodies as "meat". It's a negative connotation that expresses how useless the body is should something bad befalls it in the real world. As humans we get sick, tired, sometimes we can't travel to certain locations because of constrictions and literally having to physically go there. That's why cyberspace is alluring. It's a freeing, bodiless, constriction-less world. There are no rules, and you're literally traveling and talking to people from the comfort of your own home. True, that cyberspace can't translate between the here and now, but it yields *some* meaning derived from the real world--or some imitation, should I say. Like texting someone from another country and meeting up some months or years later. However, you have a good point about how it can affect identity and sense of self. From experience, I was exposed to a specific group on social media a while back, and I unconsciously adapted some of their beliefs as mind, and it corrupted my sense of self. For a period of time, I thought I was something I wasn't and it took a huge toll on my mental health. Although, a negative experience, it taught me about myself. Thank you so much for such great critical questions!

In EVERY case, the answer is YES. We are spiritual beings having a physical experience. Ever try to get a screen away from a child? You are now the worst person in the world, and they will RAGE at you. Their endorphin addiction is real, as is our addiction to scroll. Time is the most valuable thing we have, why do we give it away so cheaply? The trick is to use our internet access like a tool. Get on, get the information, and get off. If you are not present, looking at the world as it happens, then hopefully you are busy creating. Creating artistically, emotionally (friendships), and physically (exercise).
Hi Kate :) This was a really great video, I couldn't agree with you more on what you said. Personally, I've found that on one hand the opportunity to discover like-minded people which the internet gave me, is incredible. Especially these days, when I find myself not fitting in in my personal life, being able to turn to content creators that I am in agreement with, and that I feel connected to on sometimes an almost spiritual level (it's fascinating how that can happen through a screen), is a huge help (thank you for being one of them). Then again, there is so much bad that comes with the internet. Especially in terms of habits I feel, people's ability to communicate and interact with each other for example has been damaged so much. Attention spans as well, everything out there in the virtual world is designed to just crumble your attention span completely. And many more. Just like you said, it is a resource, and if you use it wisely and don't let it control you, instead you stay in control and mindful, it can be wonderful, but let it take control of your mind and life? Big trouble. Thank you so much for all the hard work and love you put into all of your content, and I truly hope things will keep working out for you :) Have a really nice day!

The cost of the internet is that your digital footprint becomes translated to a monetized digital profile. We are the product. Even worse countries that track political tendencies. There are tools to combat this so you can concentrate on great content like yours and be as mindful as possible. I wish it didn't have to be that way. The internet is awesome but sole-stealing at the same time.

Thank you so much for sharing your lovely thoughts on this journey with me! 🙏☮️
Thank you
Ngl I was looking for this’ thank u!
💙💙💙 this came at the right time for me, thank you 🌿
Hi Kate :) This was a really great video, I couldn't agree with you more on what you said.
Thank you so much for being here, and for taking the time to share your journey with me, dear soul🙏☮️
@@KAEmmons You're most welcome! Thank YOU so much for being here, and sharing your thoughts and work with all of us. It's a huge help and support to me every time I visit your channel, and I'm really grateful for all the work you do :)
I love this, Thank you 💚 I think as more people are becoming aware of our situation, the '4th industrial revolution' will shift to people actually moving more towards nature and using durable technology as a tool, instead of them becoming stuck in an online Metaverse.
Thank you for being here, and for sharing your journey with me 🙏☮️
Is it okay though to watch these video’s from you? Because I love them 🙌🏻
I know that you and Abbie are very spiritual people. What else do you guys do other than writing? Do you paint?
I spend a lot of time in nature hiking, surfing, and I paint and play handpan for relaxation and meditation. Thank you so much for being here, dear soul - I am grateful for you!!🙏
The cost of the internet is that your digital footprint becomes translated to a monetized digital profile. We are the product. Even worse countries that track political tendencies. There are tools to combat this so you can concentrate on great content like yours and be as mindful as possible. I wish it didn't have to be that way. The internet is awesome but sole-stealing at the same time.
I'd like to learn more about your home schooling. Especially with parents who were artists. I hope you would consider If ever in need of a video topic. Perhaps you have already made this video and you could direct me?
My sister and I talked a bit about our homeschooling upbringing in this podcast episode: ruclips.net/video/NEr-n7P3BxI/видео.html but I also love the idea of speaking on this topic more in an upcoming video! Thank you for being here, dear soul🙏☮️
@@KAEmmons Wow, Homeschooling first word in the title. I want you to know I browsed through your library looking for such a video. Thanks for being patient with me.
What are some of your go to spiritual books?
I'm currently reading Peace is Every Breath by Thich Nhat Hanh, and it is BEAUTIFUL.
Use the Internet Dont let the Internet Use you .
The funny thing is, there is no they. There is only the universal I and
