I related so much with what you said about the news. I grew up in a household where my dad was watching the news 24 hrs/day. I never noticed how much that negativity and sensationalism had impacted my mental health until I moved out and left the country. I moved to Ireland, the place where I don't pay for tv channels and I choose not to subscribe to new channel feeds on social media. Within a few months I felt like a weight was lifted off my chest. Now every time to go home, I choose to ignore the news, even though it's difficult with him watching it all the time. I still feel it impacts me, but on an incredibly smaller scale that I only need a day to reset. Our minds are so incredible ❤

The idea of driving in your car and maintaining calm and grace because you owe it to yourself and the people you are driving to spend time with seems like such an easy concept! It's an amazing reminder of a small way to make a big impact on our own happiness.

@@lydiamillen hi, just a quick note, I thought Jaclyn was excellent. I have done that whole reset journey (learning from the top 3 in the world) and feel incredible. It is absolutely THEE BEST thing you can ever do for yourself. I stopped all social media and TV too . I would highly highly highly recommend Dr Joe Dispenza (on RUclips with Lewis Howes) who is explains very clearly how everything in your life is a reflection of how you think and feel. And that your brain can only bring you thoughts equal to your feelings. ps really enjoyed the mints! I resonate with you on this hahaha. XOX

Lydia you are fabulous. My January saw me leave a job that did not serve me. I had only been there 4months and after a 30yr stint in my industry I very quickly realised this was my lesson to not chase money in a job. So with that I left to the shock of people I worked with. So if something is not serving you then change it to something that does. 🙏✨

Jesus, I'm sorry but I had to respond to your comment. There's nothing like finding out that a complete stranger is living/experiencing life exactly the same as you - quit my job in January, four months after starting a job that boosted my already high salary. I haven't been in the industry as long but 11 years was enough. The sad realisation that money isn't worth it all, even as we all navigate the cost of living crisis is scary! It takes guts to leave with no clear direction ahead (I also have a young family weekly!) So, I wanted to wish you the very best. May the odds be in our favour!

I love how Jacqueline pointed out it’s not okay for other people to choose what’s too little or too much news for YOU to consume. It’s such a good point!! I too am very careful about what news I am consuming. While I believe it is important to be aware of what’s going on in the world around me I think it is equally important, for my mental well-being, to not become distressed over situations that are out of my control. I can consume the news under my own terms and not let this chaotic world consume ME.
I have family members who tune into the news like it’s an addiction and are constantly on edge, angry and pessimistic about the state of our country (I live in the US) and they look at me like I have ten eyes when I say I am not actively following the doom cycle that is the news. And I think it’s important to mention there is so much hyperbolism, sensationalism and misinformation out there!
Anyway! Ignore those who are trying to tell you how to live your life! You know what’s best for you. Be selfish as J would say ❤

Everything in life is relative. When my late husband was fighting leukemia, I would go to work and a co-worker would come in the office and say something like "Ug, it's raining, my whole day is ruined." It would just floor me how some live their lives skimming the surface. I suppose if one is lucky enough not to have tragedy in life, a little bit of rain is a huge deal.....

Thank you Lydia for sharing your session with your Life Coach. I have to say I cried in part of it, because it validated to me that when I was young I knew who I was, but somehow lost part of that between my mid 20s to now in my 50s. Watching what Jackie was saying told me that I was right all along to believe in myself and the values I hold of treating everyone with love and respect. To me, life isn't about what others think of you, it's about how you can be happy in living your life. That is just part of why I like your channels because you are sharing your life, the good, the crap, the funny, your family, and you being You! So thanks and remember, we can't Edit life but we can live it the best we can, and that's all anyone can ask of you! ❤

I must say .. I keep my little dog treats in a tin ☺️🐾 I gave all my family an empty jar, a pen & notepad each at New Year. A ‘good things’ jar & for them to write down at the end of each week, date it, a good thing that had happened, however big or small. Then at the end of the year take out all the pieces of paper & read them .. & remember the good things & be grateful ☺️ My good thing this week was that there was a crisp blue sky, the birds were singing & my first daffodil bloomed & it made me smile 😊

I overcommitted in my small business and October and November nearly did me in. I made a goal to slow down and enjoy my life more. I’m not setting a financial goal other than, not be in the red because I am fortunate that my family wellbeing does not depend on this. It’s a creative thing I am supposed to love. So January was pretty fabulous. I feel successful and it has nothing to do with money.

My first time commenting here, but I've been subscribed for a while - I have to admit that I was utterly confused by my feelings towards you at the beginning of my journey along your vlogs - you were indeed Marmite for me on a vlog by vlog basis for a while - but I want to say it here in front of witnesses (!) that I really appreciate your content and your life philosophy ... I think kindness, reflection and the willingness to reset your mindset on a regular basis, and being always open to change are the most important facets of life as you trundle along your journey. They open you up to love and laughter. I'm in my 60s and have always tried to be kind, but never really nailed the kindness to myself, and by dint of that, was probably more instantly judgmental of others. I'm working on that. You have been the conduit 💕

I live on a large piece of property and also have a kitchen garden. We have very similar weather here in the Seattle area, so gray and gloomy conditions are the norm for most of our winters. I have struggled with this for years. I’m wondering why you don’t take a trip to a sunny spot during the winter? I find it a great way to shorten the gloomy season. Also, I’m trying to embrace the fact that I don’t have both the inside and outside to keep up with cleaning, etc. I love to cook new recipes for my husband during the winter, it’s been a fun way to try new things! I struggle with winter, but some things have really helped me. 1--Dress appropriately. I froze my butt off for years because I wanted to look cute, but now I wear tight fleece long underwear under my clothes and thick polar socks and this has made my winter life so much more enjoyable. 2--I still garden in the rain and cold. It's mostly clean up, raking leaves and debris, pruning perennials, little jobs, but it's so nice to be outside. 3--I view shoveling snow as a day at the gym and the exercise feels good and I like to see my progress on my apple watch. 4--Be around friends and family more. We tend to hibernate more in winter. We do the holidays and then retreat into a hermity existence.Go have fun! 5--Get creative! Paint, make next year's Christmas decorations, learn to knit, make a scrapbook, Give yourself something to be proud of :)

One of your best Vlogs Lydia. Jacqueline is so insightful and knowledgeable, I really enjoyed your discussion. I am a trained Exec coach and always advocate the power of self reflection and “choice” of reaction to situations, Jacqueline’s advice is so aligned to my approach. Lydia, I have followed you for years and the transformation in your approach to life and how you are developing your knowledge and understanding how to curate a life that serves you and brings you joy has been wonderful to see. You have always led the way with interesting content and continue to set the bar high for others, newer to the industry. Love the journey of exploration you are following, it’s very inspiring!

Accountability. Interesting word. Have you taken accountablity for when you hurt someone or were wrong. Aplogized. Not just to yourself but others or do you feel accountability is just within yourself and not towards others. I hope that made sense.

Jaqcueline’s words resonated with me so much that I started listening to her book. I love that it isn’t like the American self help books. I just love her style of communicating and the fact that it is very CBT based. I do CBT journaling but the book is like a personal cheerleader reminding me not to believe my thoughts and to change my negative base assumptions. And instead of reacting - de-escalating, I use this metaphor of detaching train carriages. If the train of emotion runs away, detach the carriages that are action. Contemplate, feel your feels and find out what got you triggered and why. And then, keeping in mind your values and the outcome, use diplomacy to handle the situation. But all of this is hard and reminders and cheering is great! Such high value content, thank you Lydia ❤

Just a little thing about calling rainy weather, “miserable”. It’s so British and Irish. My ex is from Ireland, I asked him, just after he mentioned it was miserable out, what was so miserable about the weather? We live in California, and had been in a drought. There was a light rain, his lawn was partially green, and the birds were chirping. He said nothing. It’s just what you say. I pointed out how tortured he looked as he said it, so it wasn’t just a word. It seems like a hurdle, but thinking about our words, and changing them is needed sometimes. I’m enjoying your content! 😃

Hiya,,This is called metacognition. Knowing what you are doing and why you are doing it. Awareness leads to improvement and neural plasticity ! 85% of people are walking around not using this skill. Hope to meet you one day, this mindfulness is now being taught in schools here in America. Self preservation is especially important for women as we cannot do it all, but one little piece at a time is okay💕
Cannot wait for Evergreen- Are you signing any books in NY?

Beautiful vlog. Hearing about your plans for the year is so inspiring! I choose a word to guide each year, and “evolution” is the word for 2024. My approach to health needs to evolve, and it is inspired by the poor health of the elders in my life. I am taking a year to change everything, and I am already feeling better. A gentle approach seems key. ❤

I hear u Lydia, I mute out as well. Volgs like urs brings me a nice little escape from these chaotic times.. it’s so easy to get caught up with all that’s happening.
I def could’ve used that advice the other day. I could’ve lost it really bad on this reckless driver but I thought this random girl isn’t worth it n I have much to lose. The Old me with no kids god knows what would’ve happened! It’s also a good thing I just left my hyperbaric appointment I felt calm, sharp, n almost like I could handle stress a lot better.
