Great video and I love the bike. It looks and sounds great. Just something about the Indian that is appealing to folks who don't want to be in the Harley crowd.
I'm gonna Tie Wrap my Tie Wraps with a Tie Wrap. Then I'm gonna take out all the bolts and replace them with Tie Wraps because Tie Wraps are totally TIE WRAPTASTIC!!!
I am considering Scout or Scout 60. I will change out the exhaust so hopefully won't need power commander. I plan to use the bike as versatile as posible, light touring and long distance so the Scout might be a better choice?
If you put louder exhaust on ( what was it Sully for Mel) but anyways make sure she wears hearing protection besides just the helmet .Women have a different decibel receiver than a man does ,What is not that loud to us blows a woman's ears out .
Agreed fine sir! I wear a half-helmet and earplugs on my Sportster. Not only the exhaust, but the constant sound of wind can cause hearing loss over time. After playing drums for many years without earplugs, I have begun to take protecting my hearing seriously and would encourage anyone else to do so.
Amazing video. I have a new Scout bobber and was looking at the same 2 into 1 setup now I know exactly what to expect. Thank you for such a detailed and excellent walk through. Love my bobber and can’t wait to get this installed!
It is very similar to the Scout, but with a more modern and aggressive style. If you test ride both you'll notice that the Octane feels much faster. To me it felt like the Scout needed 6k+ rev to wake up, while the Octane wakes up much earlier. The number one reason I chose the Octane over the Scout is the wheels. The Octane can be fitted with radial tires, while the Scout can't take anything other than high walled radials. I wish it was available in gloss black when I bought mine, the matte paint can't be polished and waxed like normal paint. A big plus is that the Octane is extremely rare where I live, the Scout is not. But that may be a problem in the future when I need to get parts for it.
They help a lot as I can squeeze the tank with my knees to take the pressure off my hands. Helps with numbness in my hands on a long trip. Thanks for watching. Mike
`Congrats on the new bike, you said it, surgery is so much smoother on a clean machine I'm looking at installing some Mac or Cycle X 4 in ones on my Honda cb1000c that I am restoring now, can't decide which ones I like best. They mostly all come with removable baffles wish I could try'em before I buy'em . Enjoy that beautiful machine this summer Michael.thanks for the vid! Cheers
Always a pleasure too see you work, Mike! That exhaust looks the part, well done. LOVE the sound! Mike, in your case, the Power Commander works on open loop, not closed loop. For it to run on closed loop it would have to get some kind of feedback from the system to "close the loop", like the bike's OEM EFI does with the O2 sensor. That's why you need the O2 blank plugs. If the O2 sensors where left in the exhaust, the bikes EFI would counter all of the Power Commander's work. If, say, the PC leans the air/fuel ratio the O2 sensors detect that and the bikes EFI would compensate it. The O2 "optimizer" plugs that come with the PC are just resistors to fool the ECU so it doesn't try to adjust the fueling. Check this (short) video out ruclips.net/video/fujeAFAjb4A/видео.html Your Indian has a fairly sophisticated EFI system. The two O2 sensors means it has separate fuel maps for each cylinder. If you like to tinker, how about getting the Power commander's auto tune kit? Anyway Mike, your smile in the end of the video is really all it matters. Ride safe and, above all, have fun. I test rode your bike and I just loved it. What a fantastic bike. You, Sir, are a man of implacable taste. 97 days to go!!!!! Alex and Lola.
How do you feel about the upgrades that you did now that you've had about two months to ride with it all? still enjoying it as much as you had hoped? The bassani 2-1 sounds fantastic. I know its louder than stock but how much louder does it seem to you? does it leave your ears ringing after riding for a while or do you think its the perfect loud. loud enough to annoy the neighbors? thanks, great vid, ride safe
And I thought changing the pipes in the Honda VTX1800 was a pain in the ass. You have way more patience than me. Give me back my 1970 motorcycles please!. SIMPLE!
Added same pipes, intake and tuned with same Commander V. ( via watching your install) An investment, but, well worth it. My 18 Scout 60 now turns heads more than before. And for a little less than a 1000 cc cruiser, it thrills me. And that is what matters. I call my little scoot, " a pissed gorilla".
I assume you mean the Bassani system? The muffler / silencer is a slip on after the 2 into 1 collector, so technically you can put any pipe that would fit on there. Also Bassani makes a shorter version in black and chrome. If you want a really short exhaust 2 into 1, then Trask or Dirty Bird has one. Thanks for watching. Mike
I miss the good old days of having a fuel petcock on the back of the tank. It made tank removal so much easier and always let you know exactly when you were hitting the reserve.
Did you lose any ground clearance when cornering with this exhaust? How's the numbers after tuning? Great video series.. your wife is a great videographer!
I think it's about the same as stock. If your riding is really aggressive I would get the Trask 2 into 1 high mount tracker system! Thanks for watching, Cheers! Mike & Melly
They are Biltwell. Its' a bit of a pain. I had to order 2 sets as the left is a 7/8" (the bar tapers down from 1" in the middle) and the right / throttle is 1". I cut off the factory rubber grip from the throttle sleeve. Then there are some "nibs" you have to file down. Then you can side the grips over. I punched a hole in the ends so I could fit my bar end weights on. Technically the Indian Scout handlebar is 1" where it clamps in the middle. But the ends where the controls are tapers to 7/8". The thickness of the throttle sleeve is why you need a 1" grip on that side. But in the grand scheme of things the Biltwell grips are cheap enough and squishy. Helps with my hands not going numb. Thanks for watching! www.biltwellinc.com/products/renegade-tpv-grips-black Mike
To get a cleaner look on the tank, you could always use clear 3M vinyl? If you cut it right, it will be completely invisible, and will completely protect the paint from any scuffs or chips
BTW, per my comment below, in case you haven't seen it, here is an article that shows dyno ratings of 60 vs. 69 for a baseline (in case you didn't dyno yours before the mods.) www.motorcycle.com/shoot-outs/indian-scout-vs-indian-scout-sixty-on-the-dyno
those bassani pipes sound awesome! ..clean job and a beautiful bike with a good choice of mods..i see a triumph? ..i have a 2011 speed triple ..to bad you live far away , I'd say lets go for a ride ..!
I have two Triumph's actually. A 2003 Speed Four that I have several videos about. The bike in the background is a 2007 Speedmaster that I am working on for my Wife as her new "big girls" bike as an upgrade from the 1987 Honda Rebel she's currently riding. Thanks for watching! Mike
Excelent vid, now we have an idea how long it realy takes to do the job. It is not just a couple hours. Mostley in youtube I dont now how much efford it takes. Thanks dude :)
Great vid, really well commentated and clear instructions. I don't own a Scout but found it also very interesting. My mate has the bigger Scout. That exhaust looks totally awesome and sounds the goods. Well done mate.
What a fantastic song Burt sings now Michael. I bet his voice is even sweeter live. I had to watch this in a couple of hits but I really wanted to see and hear the end result. Awesome mate !!
I bought all the parts from my local Indian Dealer Spartan Cycle here in Michigan. They offer 10% off to new customers for the first year and price matching of on-line orders. I believe Revzilla.com has them for a similar price to what I paid. Mike
Awesome work! I saw that same setup when I went to the drag strip, a local Indian Dealer was there with a number of bikes (including one with Nitrous) and that exhaust sounded great. I am assuming they had the power commander I mean why wouldn't they. Anyway if you want to see a few seconds of the Indian (I think it was a Sixty) see my video Great Lakes Dragway Tuesday the Indian races at the 10:37 mark into the video.
Thanks a lot for this video. This is the exact set-up I'm considering. Do you find the bassanis much louder? I'm interested in a deeper sound, but I don't want my neighbors to hate me.
Well, a mouse fart is louder than the stock exhaust from Indian... LOL!!! IMHO, the Bassani exhaust isn't too loud at idle or low RPM. If you get on it it will bark out for sure. It has a removable baffle in it. You can re-packe the baffle with more fiberglass and stainless wire to muffle it more. But everyone's opinion of what is too loud will be different. Certainly at idle and low RPM its not too loud for me. Some people don't like the louder drone at highway speeds. But again for me it hasn't been an issue. Many of the slip on exhaust pipes for the Scouts are a straight through design just like the muffler on the Bassani. So when you really get on the throttle many can be very loud. If I'm honest about it, my wife's Triumph Speedmaster and the EPCO Drag Pipes are far louder than my Bassani 2:1! LOL Thanks for watching! Mike
Try one out at a dealer. Indian makes several different handlebar, seat, and foot control brackets to fit all kinds of different riders. They should be able to get a decent fit of you. I am 6"ft even and my Sixty is very comfortable with the stock configuration. I would also try out the Indian Tractor Seat. It will get you a little more leg room. Cheers! Mike
Great video, clear filming of the process and undoubtedly essential viewing for anyone undertaking the process. Beyond that, the Bassani sounds fantastic. I've always loved the Street Bob with the bassanis, they just have a great sound and that scout is a beautiful bike. Well done Mike. A long day but I bet you're delighted with the results. Be sure to keep us in the loop for the dyna stage as well if you can.
For sure, gotta record a video about the tuning results after the visit to my Indian Dealer and tweaking on the dyno. Now I must do the ever so painful job of riding Burt for the remainder of the break-in miles to hit the magic 500 mile point. ;-) Then the Sixty will get sorted and make its full potential power in this configuration. Thanks for watching. Mike
I have a question all these mods you did does it void the warranty on the bike if you do what you did. And I wish you could’ve dynoed the motorcycle in stock form and then dynoed it after the improvements were made and see what the difference was in horsepower
Hey Mike.... Where did you get those tank protectors for the sides of the tank? Make them yourself or???? Would love to put those on my Scout. Mine is matte black and love the way it looks but it's a BITCH to take care of and scratches easily! (Don't ask me how I know that!)
I made the knee pads myself from a TechSpec universal kit. I used the larger one so I had spares. I just used 2" blue painters tape to mark off an area on the sides of the gas tank (only need to do this to one side, the tape was laid down with 1/4" overlapping rows). Then I drew the shape I liked with a pencil matching the front of the Scout's tank.. Carefully peel up all the blue painters tape in one sheet and stuck it down to some paper card stock. This was my new template. I then laid the template on the TechSpec rubber sheet (back side) and marked it with a Sharpie. Just flip the template over to get the knee pad for the other side. Then cut it out with an X-Acto knife. Used a belt sander to ease the edge of the rubber before I installed it. Then I used the blue painters tape again to hold the top edge of my self-made knee pads on the Scout's tank so it was positioned just right. Lastly peel off the backing and stick it down. The pads use a 3M adhesive and it's very strong so get it right the first time! Hope that helps. Mike
So, do you still have the template that you made for the knee pad tank protectors or??? Would you be willing to share? Also, did you only use ONE sheet of the TechSpec material?
I used the large single sheet of TechSpec in their universal kit. I have a template but I don't know if I scan it into my computer, if the size will be maintained when you print it out.
I'm 18 and for my first bike I was considering an Iron 883, HD 48, and now looking at this? In all honesty I understand that they are sportsters but I do want to go fast. Any recommendations or comments?
I'm 18 too, and have a Scout Sixty. It's going to be the greatest decision you'll ever make. Everybody has a Harley. The Indian differentiates you from the rest -- which I really like. People do triple takes when you drive past! It's also absolutely gorgeous.
Thanks! Was well worth the wait. It will be interesting to see how much power the Sixty gains after it's tuned at the Indian Dealer on the dyno. Cheers! Mike
They are from an Amazon seller called Mr Lucky's. Technically I think they are Bike Master mirrors for a Harley Post mount. I used a 1" handlebar clamp with Harley Post mount adapter. You can see that in the video. Mr Lucky's sells this as a complete kit for 1" handlebars and it comes in different finishes. Then I just plugged the 10 x 1.25mm factory mirror mount holes on the controls since the new mirrors were mounted directly to the bar with the adapter clamp. Thanks for watching! Mike
Way over my skill level! I know how to put gas and check oil on my 2014 Harley Fat Bob. I am first time viewer and enjoyed your channel so much I will check out your page. I love the Indian Scout. Great job on vlog.
little late now but idea, i like the tank pads idea, but the area is perfect at looks to make the Indian war bonnet siloghete instead of just those that you did.
I don't know. I certainly feels like there's a LOT more torque. The Power Commander still needs tuned properly as there isn't a pre-defined map from DynoJet for my combination of Trask Intake, Bassani 2 into 1 with the PC5. It is on a generic map that I got from their tech support. My Scout will go in for service soon and I will have it tuned on the dyno. Then I will have exact numbers. Cheers! Thanks for watching. Mike
Man your vids couldn't of come at a better time..Once I get the money,I'm either going to get a Scout or a 48. After watching your vids,it'll most likely be an Indian lmao and most of the mods I want to do with it,you're doing with yours aha subbed!!
really good video and editing, I wish I could do it that well. great bike I'm thinking of trading my 2005 America on one of these. Hopefully the handling is a whole lot better, I must get a test ride sometime.
This was a great video, you gave a lot of information and we will be doing this exct thing with Nurse Kitty's new sixty from Bikers Against Bullies USA. Well done, Youngblood.
Hi I'm just toying with the idea of getting a Scout. What did the power commander do for you after being tuned on a dyno? BTW love the details you supply and of course the bike.
Do you have your figures of what you got on the dyno? I'd be really interested in seeing the difference. I've seen dyno charts comparing the whp and torque of the 60 to the 69, I'm really interested in seeing the possibilities of what you can get with mods like yours. Great job, by the way! Video is well made and the bike is really cool!!!
Great video and I love the bike. It looks and sounds great. Just something about the Indian that is appealing to folks who don't want to be in the Harley crowd.
that freaking thing looks evil as shit. stunning man. good job
I love watching people who know what their doing wrenching on bikes somehow it is very relaxing and enjoyable.
its 90% common sense and 10% knowing what you are doing.
I plan to use the bike as versatile as posible, light touring and long distance so the Scout might be a better choice?
will you be doing an 80 mph ride by exhaust sound video ?
I Love your vids! Will you ever tell us what the results you got from the Dyno?
I love video
Nice job, put Bassani 2 into 1 on my v rod and sounded similiar, awesome.
Wow are you a doctor or something?
Yes, women are delicate lil flowers, so are their ear drums.
are you sure? I do believe their empty space just resonates much .. you know, the cave effect ...
What tank knee pads are those? You cut em yourself?
They are TechSpec universal that I cut myself.
Mike
That looks much better in black Mike and sounds much fruitier 👍🏻 Nice mods it's slowly turning cooler!😎😃
Thanks, much appreciated! Cheers!
Mike
Amazing video. I have a new Scout bobber and was looking at the same 2 into 1 setup now I know exactly what to expect. Thank you for such a detailed and excellent walk through. Love my bobber and can’t wait to get this installed!
Thanks for the video. Those are the exact same mods I want to do on my Victory Octane.
how do you like your octane sir, I have been looking to get one as I want a more aggressive version of the indian scout
Thats the job.Cant have a V-twin without some sweet music
Thanks! Much appreciated. Still has the baffle in the pipe too! If I really need to piss off the neighbors I can take that out! LOL
Cheers!
Mike
Good call on those tank pads. They do look pretty good.
They help a lot as I can squeeze the tank with my knees to take the pressure off my hands. Helps with numbness in my hands on a long trip. Thanks for watching.
Mike
May I ask where you got them?
...I just bought a scout lol.
nice bike and nice work!
I don't own an Indian but I found this quite enjoyable to watch. They sure are nice looking machines!
Very nicely done video. I can't get over how much more complicated this is compared to a Harley. This is daunting.
Imho, the thing that tickles my fancy is that(stock for stock)a Scout Sixty can outrun a 1200 Sportster!! I would think that is daunting to Harley! 🍻
I certainly do like the Indian Scout, in fact, all the Indian models. My next bike just might be an Indian.
+x67y76x67 I wholeheartedly agree😃
Check this (short) video out

Your Indian has a fairly sophisticated EFI system.
LOL, Figured out how to add a text bubble to correct the vid. All sorted now. Thanks again!
Mike
How do you feel about the upgrades that you did now that you've had about two months to ride with it all? still enjoying it as much as you had hoped?
The bassani 2-1 sounds fantastic. I know its louder than stock but how much louder does it seem to you? does it leave your ears ringing after riding for a while or do you think its the perfect loud. loud enough to annoy the neighbors?
thanks, great vid, ride safe
Mike, that exhaust is the mutts nuts - sounds great
And I thought changing the pipes in the Honda VTX1800 was a pain in the ass. You have way more patience than me. Give me back my 1970 motorcycles please!. SIMPLE!
But it sounds frigging great! Good luck.
That bike looks mean as hell. Also, just how many bikes do you own?
Wow, lot of work. Note to self; Pay someone to do it, lol. Looks good though.
Really enjoyed this video sir, thank you!
Sport Sound , I dont like for this visual bike.
But, This bike is very cool.
Is IT possible to make the whole exhoust (pipe) shorter?
I assume you mean the Bassani system? The muffler / silencer is a slip on after the 2 into 1 collector, so technically you can put any pipe that would fit on there. Also Bassani makes a shorter version in black and chrome. If you want a really short exhaust 2 into 1, then Trask or Dirty Bird has one. Thanks for watching.

At 44:30 the look on your face said it all. Well done and, beautiful bike !

I like your mirrors, where'd you get them from?
,
Thanks Mike great info I've almost got a deal for a bobber.
Thank you for your videos they are super
informative.
Nice Bie! Sounds mean, was thinking about buying one but noe i definitely am haha thx 4 vid
nice job, looks/sounds great!
what handlegrips do you have on there?

damm they have pads for the tank.....Ive been using Finding Nemo bath tub traction stickers!
I was watching this in my living room and my wifes ear perked up when you said long and black 🤦♂️
I've watched this video at least 5 times. Great video I'm looking to do something very similar to my sixty.
Excelent vid, now we have an idea how long it realy takes to do the job. It is not just a couple hours. Mostley in youtube I dont now how much efford it takes.

Thanks Marty! It's a great bike. Just love riding it.
Hi Michael can you give me the link for we're you bought power commander 5 for scout sixty 2016
I bought all the parts from my local Indian Dealer Spartan Cycle here in Michigan. They offer 10% off to new customers for the first year and price matching of on-line orders. I believe Revzilla.com has them for a similar price to what I paid.

If I'm honest about it, my wife's Triumph Speedmaster and the EPCO Drag Pipes are far louder than my Bassani 2:1! LOL Thanks for watching!

stock sounds weak...but your mod. Wow!!
If you're ever in Jackson, hit me up! ill come riding with ya!
im 6'3" 289 i want a 60 will i be ok on this bike! i cant afford the bigger Indians but i like this scout!
Cheers!

Thanks Mike! I appreciate the info. I will have to give this a try! : )
Might be worth a try?
Your bike looks and sounds awesome . Really nice work .
Wow its sounds soo good! nice job Michael Rench :-)
I like the pipes and air filter, but do you actually need the power commander computer?
Is that you playing the guitar lick in the intro?
Love it ! Are you also working on a new guitar project ?
I don't know, what is it ?
I'd love to see a video of your bike on the road, cruising and pitching into turns on a twisty. You have a beautiful bike.
Will do a proper ride report once I get back from vacation. Thanks for watching, cheers!
Mike
Looks great & sounds mean. Nice job!
Thanks!
And what better way to spend a long day.
Its a beautiful beast !
Thanks Springy! Much appreciated. I love the new Scout's (as if you can't tell! LOL). ;-)
Mike
I'm 18 and for my first bike I was considering an Iron 883, HD 48, and now looking at this? In all honesty I understand that they are sportsters but I do want to go fast. Any recommendations or comments?
i was looking at the same bikes. Check out reviews online that compare the HD 883 and the Scout 60. (Indian wins in almost all categories)
indian scout all the way man. look up the video indian scout vs iron 883
I'm 18 too, and have a Scout Sixty. It's going to be the greatest decision you'll ever make. Everybody has a Harley. The Indian differentiates you from the rest -- which I really like. People do triple takes when you drive past! It's also absolutely gorgeous.
Roman Syed Yeah I just bought my neighbors 83 sportster that bored out to a 1200
My recommendation for your first bike is dont go fast. Just live longer.
A good idea is actually to make a cold box for the intake. Cold air is better for power.
new exhaust looks business !!! me like it :)
Thanks! Was well worth the wait. It will be interesting to see how much power the Sixty gains after it's tuned at the Indian Dealer on the dyno. Cheers!
Mike
Nice vid Mike! Well done bro 👊🏻
Outstanding!
What mirrors are those?
They are from an Amazon seller called Mr Lucky's. Technically I think they are Bike Master mirrors for a Harley Post mount. I used a 1" handlebar clamp with Harley Post mount adapter. You can see that in the video. Mr Lucky's sells this as a complete kit for 1" handlebars and it comes in different finishes. Then I just plugged the 10 x 1.25mm factory mirror mount holes on the controls since the new mirrors were mounted directly to the bar with the adapter clamp. Thanks for watching!
Mike
I bought mine at Spartan. When we goin riding?
You only get 4 riding days a year in Michigan, make 'em count!
any exhaust leaks?
None so far. I did use new gaskets at the cylinder heads. Ordered them from my local Indian Dealer. Thanks for watching.
Mike
Way over my skill level! I know how to put gas and check oil on my 2014 Harley Fat Bob. I am first time viewer and enjoyed your channel so much I will check out your page. I love the Indian Scout. Great job on vlog.
thanks for the very detailed video!!
little late now but idea, i like the tank pads idea, but the area is perfect at looks to make the Indian war bonnet siloghete instead of just those that you did.
hek+llo Michael:
good work and looks great your indian scout , how much power you get with all the staff installed?
I don't know. I certainly feels like there's a LOT more torque. The Power Commander still needs tuned properly as there isn't a pre-defined map from DynoJet for my combination of Trask Intake, Bassani 2 into 1 with the PC5. It is on a generic map that I got from their tech support. My Scout will go in for service soon and I will have it tuned on the dyno. Then I will have exact numbers. Cheers! Thanks for watching.
Mike
Man your vids couldn't of come at a better time..Once I get the money,I'm either going to get a Scout or a 48. After watching your vids,it'll most likely be an Indian lmao and most of the mods I want to do with it,you're doing with yours aha subbed!!
nice job, sounds great
Nice job sir. Looks sharp.
nice work. why did you remove the "bobber" seat?
Hy sir, what is the power commander about ?
why is the engine noise overpowering the exhaust? is the idle set higher?
really good video and editing, I wish I could do it that well. great bike I'm thinking of trading my 2005 America on one of these. Hopefully the handling is a whole lot better, I must get a test ride sometime.
This was a great video, you gave a lot of information and we will be doing this exct thing with Nurse Kitty's new sixty from Bikers Against Bullies USA. Well done, Youngblood.
Nice bike nice video
Hi I'm just toying with the idea of getting a Scout. What did the power commander do for you after being tuned on a dyno? BTW love the details you supply and of course the bike.
2:38 have a neurologist check your wrists for CTS (carpal tunnel syndrome), bro....
ride safe
did you have good vision with that setup of mirrors?
Awesome dude!
What is the part number on the power commander
This is one of the best video series ever.
That has made it look and sound much better, sweet :)
Yep! Wait till you see the other stuff I have done... LOL
Cheers!
Mike
Great job, buddy. Looks great
