This has to be a 0/10. McDonald's didn't do anything new, didn't make it easier to acquire, didn't make it more affordable. They did nothing but call it a promotion. Absolutely a 0/10.
More expensive even.
Same thing for the celebrity meals. For the Travis Scott meal they actually made a new item (lettuce on 1QP w/ Cheese) and the bbq sauce with the fries. The next meals were just already existing menu items in one meal. (Balvin meal was a Big Mac meal with a McFlurry).
Not sure why he gave this a 3/10? It's a 0/10 all day...
It's the same exact thing with the " Travis scott meal" nothing new at all. Everything they've done is market the same items such a disaster

People forget about how criminally underrated McDonald’s ‘Grilled Onion Burger’ was a few years ago & it was on the value menu. They stopped selling it but it was such a good burger! I’m definitely disappointed with their recent lack of creativity.

I was in a taste test study group for 6 new Mc D burgers. The one with crispy onion strings was my fave. It was on the menu for a little while before it disappeared. I think the specialty burgers were too much "work" for the employees
Recently for me, they're quarter pounder or double quarter pounder with cheese is where it's at. Feel like I get my money's worth with it.
Some of the appeal of these “menu hacks” was being “in the know” about what to order and it not being on the menu. You had exclusive knowledge to pull one over on McDonald’s and get a sandwich cheaper by doing some clever customizing, like a McDouble with no ketchup; add lettuce and Mac sauce. That’s essentially a big Mac for half the price. No middle bun but who needs those extra carbs anyways.
yup same..instead of buying chicken nugget meal and big mac meal...i would just buy 2 mcdoubles for 2 bucks on the value menu...then buy the fries sep...then buy the 6 pc value nuggest...and a large sprite
for the longest time that was roughly a lil over 10 dollars getting all that...2 mcdoubles (basically 2 big macs), 2 large fries, 6 nuggets, lrg drink....all bought sep no meals...
if you bought it as meals.. 25 bucks for 2 big mac meals, nugget meal and drinks...
trust...mcdonalds caught onto that...they changed their entire value menu to be about the same in price if you order sep...

The last time I ordered the two for whatever price double cheeseburgers (plain + lettuce + mac sauce) I was charged I think 85 cents extra. I really dislike McDonalds to begin with and this didn't help. Condiments IMO should be free.

The new order device wich was previously used to underpay staff is certainly great for cutting down on the menu and disincentivize customers orderning secret menu items that aren't as profitable as the burgers on the list (at least there's the drive-in)

I ordered the Crunchy Double and when I got to the window, they were like, you got the 6 piece nugget right? I was like what? and it took them 5 minutes and they had me pull to the parking spot until they figured out what I ordered and to my shock, it was just a double cheese burger, a 6 piece nugget, and a bbq packet and I have to assemble it myself, insanity lol.

I think this is right up there with their limited edition "gourmet" burgers. Maybe in other countries those are worth it, but where I'm from, all I tried so far have been quite bland and very expensive (sometimes the cost was similar to that of a decent quality, restaurant burger).
I agree with it being a disaster. I might have been willing to buy the mcmuffin with the hashbrown if it were discounted. I would have removed the hashbrown, and ate it separately

You know what would have been just as effective? Printing a few pamphlets with "try these McD hacks!" and a list of combinations and just having them in the stores. Bonus points for not making themselves look like greedy morons.

This is what they actually did, this promotion is just a pamphlet that most stores posted on their window to advertise the promotion. This is boosting traffic to the McDonald's app and getting people to buy multiple items to try a menu hack. It is really short sighted by mcdonalds because they have made the menu hacks more expensive to sell that they are a gimmick.

They’re getting customers acclimated to assembling their own sandwiches. That way they can automate the cooking but don’t have to buy robots with opposable appendages.

I work at McDonald’s I think the issue mainly comes down to packaging they had have to make a whole new box just to pack that thing, and it could be a logistical nightmare

I don’t get it either. I just experienced this myself. Saw the nicely built sausage McMuffin with a hash brown in it in the picture and ordered it. Got the sausage McMuffin and hash brown separately and asked the counter wtf. After they told me I had to put it together I just laughed and asked for my money back. What a joke. I actually attempted at first to lift the McMuffin bread to see if somehow they got the hash brown hiding in it magically, and just by lifting the bread it was ripping because of the melted cheese. This is just laughable. What In the actual fuck is the point of this dumb idea

One thing Reviewbrah failed to mention is you get a free fries and drink if you order the secret menu item by name. So there's at least a little bit of a reason to do it.
Corporate marketing 100% planned to have these "hacks" assembled for you by the restaurants and the franchisees said "We don't even have enough staff to properly make our normal food," and this is the dumpster fire that resulted from that combination.

I remember these being "secret menu items" a while back. They literally just made you sign up for the app to get a already known product that you have to put together yourself, which you could've done before anyway 😐
Alot of it I think is to control the situation so they can bump the price and precisely what you buy by selling it as a bundle. They have a reputation for having a reliable flavour profile around the world people making diy recipes might mess with that Im guessing they choose a couple they deem acceptable yo their brand to discourage people mixing and matching willy nilly
This is just beyond ridiculous. I'm in awe. Like, not only could you have bought these items and put them together yourself, but also you waste 4 burger buns. The whole thing makes zero sense. Someone was super high when they thought of this, and someone else was even more high to make this an actual thing.
I remember being able to buy just the extra chicken or meat patties. You could get a chicken sandwich with a beef patty that they put on it and they didn’t make you pay for the whole sandwich so it was sort of cheaper. But still a lot of money just for the meat imho.

A long, long, long time ago there was a comic strip called Blondie and Dagwood. Dagwood was known for his love of tall sandwiches. What your construction looks like is what we used to call a Dagwood Sandwich. The only thing missing is the olive on top.
Jack Black should be credited as the inventor of the McSurf 'n Turf Deluxe, as he called it. He was talking about that combo like 15 years ago. His called for fries inside the burger though because "cow got a little potato in its hooves". Truly ahead of his time.

In California a big mac by itself is 5.99. You got 3 sandwiches for $8 Wow! Time to move next to this guy!

McD’s literally could’ve just *posted this as an image on Twitter* and say “hey maybe try these hacks out” and this would’ve been fine. You could literally just DO this before, without any need for the app or a new menu. This is beyond stupid.

At first, when he said you get the individual components and put them together, I thought he meant you could purchase just a burger patty, etc. I've done the McChicken + McDouble before and it's great, but it felt wasteful throwing the extra bread away. Great review and agreed. My favorite hack with McDonald’s however is 2 McDoubles. You take the bread with no cheese or condiments on it and set them aside. Smash the rest of the salvaged sandwiches together. I eat the bread i put aside, but having my “McQuad” is my guilty pleasure snack.

When I worked at Wendy's, we always made a hack we called a Chicken Stack. It was a double stack with a crispy chicken patty between the hamburger patties. The employees would buy it, as would some of the customers. And we made them that way too. Nobody had to self assemble them. No wasted buns❤ Technically they had to pay for them separately but we still made it the way they wanted. We'd add mayo and lettuce too, whatever toppings on the chicken added to the stack

I was a critic of this from day one, if I wanted to assemble McDonald's sandwiches, I'd get a job at McDonald's. I want to order my food and eat it, and I surely don't want to be throwing away a bunch of stuff that I paid for.

Some McDs hacks are pretty good, but I always thought that the Land, Sea, Air thing was ridiculous. I'm surprised that McDonald's included it in this promotion, and not the more well known and well liked "Ten Thirty--Five" where you combine a breakfast sandwich (usually an Egg McMuffin) with a burger (usually a McDouble) when they switch from Breakfast to Lunch.

@@elgatochurro Against my better judgment, I decided to try it. It went about as well as you'd expect. The flavor of the fish overpowered the chicken and hamburger. For most of the sandwich I couldn't even properly taste the constituent parts. It was just a horrible mash of food that I kept shoveling into my mouth. Afterwards I felt vaguely nauseous and needed to visit the restroom. I like Big Macs and McChickens. With this, I couldn't taste either of them - neither the sauce nor the meat.

I've been putting hash browns on my sausage egg McMuffins since I was a kiddo in the 90's, and also using a double cheese burger paired with a McChicken and calling it a Mc Gang Bang in the early thousands. We've been using this concept for decades.
Much cheaper to buy the items separately at my McD's - Land Air and Sea $10.09, Separately (2 for $6) Big Mac and Filet O Fish $6 + McChicken $1.49= $7.49 What a mess! Just another way to have people buy more product they probably don't need. (Update) It looks like the 2 for 6 ended on 1/31 :(

The last good things McDonald’s ever released that were actually new and good. Chicken snack wraps, Big Mac wraps, the extra large chicken snack wraps that came in three varieties, south west chicken sandwiches, buttermilk chicken sandwiches. Over the course of the last 5-7 years McDonald’s has progressively gotten worse and they take the same menu items put them together and call it a new meal. When it’s literally the same ingredients. Trash. I stopped supporting them a while ago. The reason they got rid of the wraps is because they wanted to have shorter window times. They’re more worried about how quick they can get people in and out versus having a satisfied customer.
Don't forget the McSkillet burrito. That thing was phenomenal.

I had a store make a big mac, but replace the beef with McChicken patties. They left the onions off and added pickle chips. That was a bit better. But did not taste as well as I thought it would.
